Bevek Verdade |
"This is a literal map, correct? Not some impressionistic rendition of what if 'feels' like to find the way?"
Bevek pauses and blinks several times as Mariel explodes in frustration. He reaches out a hand to pat her on the shoulder in a comforting gesture. "Easy now. No need to lose our cool. The world is full of darkness. It is up to us to provide the guiding light, whether that's through illumination or investigation. And even though we may not always like what the light reveals, we still have an obligation to ignite it. We'll get to the bottom of this soon enough. Now, let's see if we can figure out where the 'artiste' is sending us." He then examines the map and the surroundings, looking for the path forward.
Mariel Aldalinde |
Mariel meets Fingalad's stare in defiance, despite her heating cheeks.
She cools down at Bevek's touch, anger draining from her frustration to leave sadness. "Yes, you're right, I guess. It's just that we're being squeezed in a situation where all out options seem bad, and then we have to deal with someone who's so... infuriating. In all of the Acts, Iomedae never had to deal with things like this, it seems. Or maybe she did, but they left those parts out..."
She takes a deep breath. "You're probably right. It's better to know, even if it changes nothing in the end. We go forward and rescue the prisoners, accepting whatever 'help' we need. Anything else will only prolong their suffering..."

GM Bold Strider |
"The map is perfect." assures the Painter with a smile. "I believe that you should start in there." he says, pointing to the next room which shows an open trapdoor that leads down into the sewers.
Refuse rushes by in a stream of garbage carried swiftly through the sewer proper. A five-foot-wide dry ledge sits a foot above the refuse and provides a walkway on both the east and west sides of the sewer. On the west wall, a massive iron door blocks passage beyond. An image carved into the door is of a dispassionate figure holding a gibbous moon.
There is no light here beyond what you have with you. The iron door on the west wall is locked.
You descend the ladder on the east side of the sewer and must cross to the west to access the iron door. You may attempt to jump the sewer, but there is no way to get a running start considering the angle.
Conlaoch McCullagh |
"I find myself spending too much time in the sewers."
Conlaoch considers jumping, and then says "Let's see if we can find some planks or a long bench or something to make a bridge."
Fingalad Eldahir |
Fingalad looks for such an item in the room above, or further up in the Swift if necessary.

Mariel Aldalinde |
"Right..." Mariel looks less than pleased to see this obstacle and starts apologizing to her companions. "You know I'm not the most 'athletic' person. I hope you can find something for a bridge. I'll see whether maybe we can tie a rope as well, once the first people have crossed."
Mariel utters a short prayer, and her shield starts to emit a bright beacon of light. She looks along the wall on their end and on the other side, looking for some way to tie off a rope anywhere.
Cast Light. Will keep refreshing when it runs out, while we're in the sewers.
Amon Ione |
Amon opens his mouth as three small orbs of light release from it. The lights quickly begins to splash out in all directions, illuminating the area.
Not so bad now that we have a bit of light to see by.
Walking up to the edge Amon crouches down.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
With animal -like reflexes Amon leaps across the gap.
It's not so bad. Maybe we can find something over here.
Mariel Aldalinde |
"Well done, Amon. Can you see anything to tie off a rope at that end? I can toss you the coil, if you do..."
Amon Ione |
Amon looks around for a place to tie the rope off.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
He scratches his head as he dazes off, fearing they may yet run into something worse than an earth elemental.
Fingalad Eldahir |
Fingalad informs the others of the missing bell, then joins Amon and readies his bow.

Mariel Aldalinde |
Mariel carefully crosses the makeshift bridge, holding tight to the rope that she tossed to Amon. "Well, that wasn't so bad," she says when she reaches the ledge on the other side, still looking anxiously at the water below. "So, from the map of the Painter, it seems like we have to go through this door. Agree? Raevin, Bevek, will either of you do the honors? You never know what to expect..."
Fingalad Eldahir |
Looked through the history. I know I used Magic Weapon and two of my arcane pool points. I didn't see anywhere that I used up my cast of Vanish, though.
Bevek Verdade |
"Down in the sewers again, along with all the rest of the rats."

"Hmm, that's unfortunate. Did the painter's map say anything about this door? Probably not..."

Mariel Aldalinde |
Mariel lets her thoughts roam as the others work on the door. "If we have to break down the door, would the painter consider that messing with the shrine? It he does, it's probably his own fault... He could have told us of this locked door, and how it's supposed to be opened..."
Still here, waiting for the result of the lockpicking.

Mariel Aldalinde |
"Well, I guess we won't have to bash in the door after all." Mariel can't help but sound slightly disappointed with that.
"Let me, Bevek. You never know what's behind it, and you've taken enough risks for today." Mariel draws her sword, and opens the door.

Raevin |
Raevin shrugs... "Your skills shine beyond my own, I think, Bevek. I have much to learn... " then he lofts a brow and jests "Of course Amon and I DID loosen up the tumblers for you." then he grins and winks.

A purple radiance washes over this cold chamber from a variety of lichens and fungi that grow on the walls and ceiling creating an otherworldly sheen. Straw-filled cages line the north and south walls. In the room’s center, a strange pedestal, carved in the likeness of dozens of grasping tentacles, sits fixed into the stone floor.
Mariel sees the door is unlocked and opens the door, but fails to notice the enemy on the other side until it is too late.
