Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv mixes up another bomb as he flies to follow the elephant, but keeping enough distance from the beast to avoid getting gored again.
Ranged Touch, PBS, Precise Shot: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 1 = 22
Fire Damage: 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4, 2) + 4 + 1 = 13
Standard bomb, though the elephant is still on fire from the previous explosive bomb. Precise bomb discover keeps Navrik safe from splash.
Narvik Drak |
I did that thinking the 12 you rolled was the damage, plus I wasn't sure if it had a 10' reach. So, no, I'd rather not die.
Narvik limps to the side and heals himself after being trampled!
CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 5) + 5 = 17 Back up to 26 HP now.
GM Bold Strider |
Sorry about the delay. At Oktoberfest in Munich and the internet at the hostel is terrible.
Maarv throws another bomb at the elephant while Narvik limps away to heal himself. The elephant randomly charges as another bombs hits it.
1d6 ⇒ 6
5d8 ⇒ (3, 2, 7, 1, 7) = 20
The blazing elephant charges over Baldwyn and the lion. The lion tries to leap out of the way of the charging elephant...
1d20 ⇒ 2
but fails miserably and is gored to death by the elephant.
Reflex Save or Attack of Opportunity at a -4 to hit for Baldwyn

(Isn't the elephant at 59 after Maaarv's last bomb?)
Obyrn moves nimbly around the nearby cart and stabs again.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25 (Still not sure it's reach range, so not sure if this is necessary.)
Longspear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Narvik Drak |
Maarv! Come to me so that I might heal you! Narvik's limited movement prevents him from reaching his friend but he will ready himself to cure him if he can move within his reach.
CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 4) + 5 = 15
If he does not come for healing I'll use the spell on myself.
Baldwyn Doucas |
Knowing he is knocked over if he fails, Baldwyn opts to instead trip the pachyderm before it has a chance to trample over him.
CMB + Greater Trip + 2 for AoO
Trip: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38
Except, I just realized, the elephant is huge and not large. Gorrammit... Wasted a roll.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv calls down to Narvik, "Don't worry 'bout me, Narvik!" He follows the elephant, tossing another bomb.
Ranged Touch, Point Blank Shot, Out of Range: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 - 2 = 22
Damage: 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 3) + 4 + 1 = 16
Precise shot, precise bombs, etc...
GM Bold Strider |
It is! Also, sucks to lose a nat 20.
Obyrn stabs the elephant with his longspear while it tramples Baldwyn. Baldwyn tries to trip the beast, but is unable to do so. Narvik heals himself while Maaarv throws another bomb at the pachyderm.
Damage: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (2, 2) + 15 = 19
1d6 ⇒ 2
1d3 ⇒ 3
The flaming elephant charges over Obyrn.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Obyrn goes down, almost dead.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Unable to manipulate the map from my phone. Please put me 20 feet from the elephant.
Maaarv follows behind the elephant, keeping his distance. "Narvik, Obryn's down!"
He decides to throw another bomb at the tusked creature.

Baldwyn stand up and readies an attack if the elephant comes within reach.
This should provide one readied attack and one AoO should it try to trample Baldwyn.

Readjusting my path of movement with the new info on Obryn's health. Since I can move in a straight line, I will run as a full-round action.
GM Bold Strider |
Obyrn gets trampled under the elephant's hooves. The brutal trampling smashes his head against the cobblestone floor, sending blood cascading in a scarlet flood down the cement channels between the pavers.
Damage: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (8, 2) + 15 = 25
I think that killed you Obyrn?
Narvik runs to Obyrn's lifeless body while Maaarv tosses another bomb at the beast. Baldwyn readies an attack in case the charging pachyderm comes his way.
1d6 ⇒ 3
Between the bomb and the immolating fire, the elephant collapses onto the ground. It gives out a death trumpet before falling limply onto an abandoned buffet table.
Current Status:
1st: Baldwyn @ 26/74 HP; Maaarv @ 6/45 HP; Obyrn @ -15/41 HP; Narvik @ 41/41 HP
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Oh $%*&.
Maaarv lowers himself to the ground. With a flick of his wrist, a slender wooden stick pops into his hand. He takes a minute to heal the gashes he received from the various animals.
CLW: 7d8 + 7 ⇒ (4, 3, 7, 2, 4, 7, 8) + 7 = 42 7 charges used. 11 charges remain.
As the dust settles and Maaarv regains his wits about him, he looks over at the rogue lying on the ground. "Is Obyrn unconscious?" he asks out loud to himself.
However, as Maaarv approaches, the poor half-elf's body shows terrible signs of trampling and goring. "Narvik! Obyrn... he's... I think he's dead! You're an oracle, right? Is there anything you can do?"
Narvik Drak |
Narvik shakes his head slowly. Now that he has passed on, no. At least, not anything that would be considered useful.
I can summon him as a zombie, I can speak to him, but I can't bring him back.
Well, actually, maybe there is but it depends on the DM. Maybe I've misread my movement speed wrong all this time? Reading it again, it says under Lame: One of your legs is permanently wounded, reducing your base land speed by 10 feet if your base speed is 30 feet or more. If your base speed is less than 30 feet, your speed is reduced by 5 feet. Your speed is never reduced due to encumbrance. I've been moving at 15' a round as long as I remember because Hero Lab said so. Seems that it should be 20' since I'm not affected by encumbrance. That means I could have made it to him in time to tap him with a wand or cast a spell.
EDIT : No, I'd still have had to run as a FRA, I can't cast before he gets trampled. Damn.
And another EDIT : Its my medium armor that slows me by another 5 feet, so it is 15' after all. I don't think I can ignore that. Bah.
Baldwyn Doucas |
Baldwyn waits while the magic users see to the fallen comarade, but eventually offers his wand to one of them to heal his own wounds, muttering the whole time about "shoulda known I couldn't have tripped it. Overreaching..."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 37
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 45
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 53
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 57

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 65
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 69
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Full
8 charges, 29 remain
Weaver, a Pathfinder |
Wait, what? I thought the 19 damage from earlier was the damage rolled against me for the trample, putting me at -9/41hp. Did I get trampled again while already down for 25 more damage? In that case, yes, I am very very dead.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
I'm willing to chip in for a Raise Dead spell to bring you back. If we have the time, that is.
Maaarv shakes his head slowly, "There are ways to bring him back - we could get him to a temple, have a cleric, or group of clerics could... like pray over him."
Narvik Drak |
So he was still conscious (+10)? I think he thought he was down (-9) and didn't act, rolling what looks like a Con save instead.
Weaver, a Pathfinder |
Ah, okay if that damage was for Baldwyn and isn't going to be used for me, then I am still very much dead. I don't suppose I get any sort of bonus for trying to dive under the cart haha.
Really, I guess I should have stayed at range against a CR 7 with autodamage of 17+. Oh well. :P
For whatever reason, I had an odd feeling that something like this might happen and I stocked just enough cash to get myself raised. Thanks Maaarv for the offer -- and if you still wanted to pitch in to help offset me being behind for a while, I ain't gonna stop you -- but I should be able to handle it all on my own.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
I'm happy to help - Maaarv will chip in 500 gp.
"Hey, uh Baldwyn. You look strong - stronger than me at any rate... Can you help me carry Obyrn to the nearest temple. I'm not sure if he worships anyone in particular - I'm a Cayden Cailean man myself, but that doesn't matter. Let's go."
Baldwyn Doucas |
Will have to check my finances.
Baldwyn props his polearm against a wagon before hefting Obyrn up and over his shoulder like a sack of turnips. He then regrabs his weapon and uses it to support the added weight as they turn to head towards a temple.
"We should check with whoever we're workin' for here to make sure it's okay to leave our posts before headin' out."
Narvik Drak |
If it helps (and I don't know if its needed) Narvik can cast Lesser Restoration if he needs it. I'm not sure how the process goes but its all I can offer.
GM Bold Strider |
As you are regrouping a man with a wayfinder runs up to you with a woman in tow. Pathfinders! Thank you so much for your help! Some men dressed as merchant guards stole our relics from the vault! The woman starts to break down crying. I am Farendir, the groom. These relics were included in the marriage contract and, without them, our marriage could be invalidated by Master Bashir.
He pulls aside Maaarv and whispers to him. The Society will also be denied dozens of important Qadiran artifacts for the collection in the Grand Lodge in Absalom.
He stands proudly to the group. We need you to get those artifacts back as soon as possible. The bandits could easily have them on a trade caravan by tomorrow.
Edit: We will deal with the Raise Dead in character, just go with the flow of the story.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv nods solemnly at Farendir's directions. "Right, so... did anyone see which direction they went?" Raoul asks as he helps Baldwyn keep his balance with Obyrn's added weight.
"Where's the nearest temple? We can place Obyrn into the good hands and try and track these ne'er-do-wells with the absconded treasure while the poor guy makes his recovery."
GM Bold Strider |
Farendir directs you to the nearest temple of Pharasma. As you hustle there, you see other bodies being carried to the temple by people you recognize from the wedding.
The head cleric tuts as he sees the hoof marks on Obyrn's corpse. Another casualty from the wedding debacle... Take him to the morgue and my attendants will ensure that he is given a proper burial. The cleric turns and starts filling out paperwork.
Baldwyn Doucas |
"To the morgue? Hardly!" Baldwyn barks, getting the cleric's attention again. "We're here to get him back in fighting condition! There's a job needs doin' and we're short-handed."
GM Bold Strider |
The cleric looks over the three men and their dead friend with an appraising eye. Let me guess... Adventurers... The man sighs. Fine, bring him back to the chapel. I will have someone sent in as soon as we have time. It should take an hour to procure the necessary ingredients unless you happen to have them on you. Assuming you don't roll deep with a 5kGP diamond and 1kGP of diamond dust.
The cleric casts a Gentle Repose on Obyrn and his friends lay his body out on a cold stone slab adorned in the various stages of life.
---
One hour and fifteen minutes later, a high-level Cleric of Pharasma places a gold-filled pouch into his robes and hurries from the room. Obyrn cracks his neck as he gets up, feeling a bit off. -1 negative level if you can also pay for a Restoration; -2 if you can't.
Finally, how are you going to pay for this? Straight gold? Mix of Prestige and Gold?
---
What do you do now?
Weaver, a Pathfinder |
"Nnnngh. Uh. What? Um. Where are we? What happened? I've got the WORST headache. I don't remember drinking at the wedding..." Obyrn sits up, a little bewildered and very groggy.
Gold for the raise, PP for the restoration. I should add that I'm gonna use my Master of Trade vanity here if possible, reducing the gold cost by 10%.
Btw, thanks Maaarv. I really appreciate the help. If ever I have the opportunity to return the favor, I will do so.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
No problemo. I'm just paying it forward.
Maaarv digs out 500 gp and throws it into Obyrn's Pathfinder pouch when the rogue isn't looking.
While Obyrn is being cared for and brought back from the brink of death, Maaarv does his best to try and to pick up a track of the thieves.
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Haha! Nope.
After returning empty-handed, Maaarv notes of Obyrn, "Hey - looking well! We should probably move quickly - those thieves have a pretty good head start on us."

Even in his groggy and dilapidated state, Obyrn is able to ask the right folks about the dervishes of the Fraternity of Unforgiving Fire and learn or their meeting place. He shares what he has learned with the party.
Updated my stats for the negative level now.
GM Bold Strider |
Assuming that you are heading to the Hall of Purifying Flame.
The Hall of Purifying Flame is found on the outskirts of Katheer, among the stench of slaughterhouses and tanneries. Nothing about the Hall of Purifying Flame suggests purity. Poorly patched cracks meander among the decaying brickwork, running up from the structure’s uneven foundation. The hall’s many windows have been bricked up or boarded over. Above the hall’s iron-shod door sags an illegible, weather-beaten sign. Ruthless mercenaries and slavers, the Fraternity of the Unforgiving Fire make their headquarters in this decayed structure. They have no one posted to watch the exterior.
What do you do? (Map Updated)
Narvik Drak |
Before the party proceeds Narvik will cast False Life: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 on himself. Narvik would agree to being the door opener if requested, assuming that someone else deems it safe to do so.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv takes out a flask labeled with a simple, bold M. He empties it into his gullet in one go. "Ah... that hit the spot." He then hands out another flask, this time to Obyrn.
"I didn't think to give this to you earlier, but I think you may find it useful - give you some protection." The flask bears a line drawing of a shield.
Drank my mutagen (+4 to Dex, +2 to Natural Armor, -2 to Wis, lasts 1 hour) and gave Obryn an extract of shield CL 6 - lasts 6 minutes.
"An Baldwyn, don't forget that extract of strength I handed you before."
Maaarv will open the door once everyone's ready.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
I've changed the relevant stats to my runner based on my mutagen - the changed values are marked with an asterix.
Weaver, a Pathfinder |
Obyrn nods in thanks to Maaarv, downs the extract, and gives the entrance a quick lookover before the alchemist gives it a push. Taking 10 on a perception check for traps for 25. Please assume I do this for every door we encounter, if you don't mind -- saves me the trouble of typing it out.
AC now 25.
GM Bold Strider |
I was wrong. My bad! Also, can do Obyrn!
Maaarv thrusts open the doors and sees an empty temple. Militant statues of Serenrae line the walls while columns are adorned with stone-etched phrasings of the Flame's power. About ten feet in front of the door, there seems to be a large amount of blood spilled. 10' x 10' square
The temple seems oddly quiet.
