The map shows the location of the hold’s main features. Thick sheets of webbing choke some areas—these squares act as the web spell. A few large crates hamper movement and can be used as cover. The aft section of the hold is flooded so treat these squares as difficult terrain.

"Thank you Papy; Feel very weak."
GM Bold Strider |
Amon cuts down the last spider as Papy heals the severely weakened Taicho. Luckily, it seems the poison has run its course in his system.
After healing up, the Pathfinders find three potions hidden in a crate.
The forecabin contains a desk and some papers, including the ship’s logbook. That document clearly indicates that the Hanspur’s Luck was ordered by Lady Riverbane to come to this location and await further instructions. When presented with this finding, Riverbane doesn’t deny the evidence, stating that her original plan—before the Pathfinders were called in—was to launch a rescue expedition into the forest with the crew of the Hanspur’s Luck.
Nowhere on the ship is there any trace of the crew.
The majority of the supplies found on board are clearly of Andoren origin. Among the papers found in the cabin are some ledgers. Unfortunately, they are all written in orc.
---
Following the encounter on board the Hanspur’s Luck, the expedition resumes its course. The next morning, Lady Riverbane anchors her ship and leads the Pathfinder ashore. She gives you a very simple map meant to lead you to the place where the Black Marquis’s men were ambushed.
You penetrate the eerie depths of the forest alone, with Lady Riverbane stating that she needs to stay behind with her crew to ensure that it doesn’t fall to brigands or abominations—from here on out, you are on your own. The journey from the shores of the Sellen River to the location marked on Riverbane’s map takes four hours at normal walking speed.
The forest here is ancient. Dense masses of leafage impose an eerie twilight of dark green while forlorn trees speak of a bygone age where humans wrestled for survival in a land of darkness. Many thick sheets of giant webbing stretch like great shrouds around the gaunt trees and groveling bushes.
Papy Shayn |
Do we have to roll the heal on strength damage during the night? And do you want to know how we walk, in which order?
Taicho Munetoshi |
Taicho will point to the 3 potion vials with Osirani writing on them ...
... and not having either linguistics or spellcraft will ask ...
"What potion say?
GM Bold Strider |
If you wish to use the Heal skill, then you would need to spend eight continuous hours treating the afflicted. If you did this during sleeping hours, then whoever stayed up to administer the long term care would be fatigued.
If you don't roll to heal, then you would regain one strength damage overnight. This would bring Taicho to 6 damage and Papy to 2 damage, thus no change in condition as Ability Damage only affects you on even increments.
As to walking order: My go-to is usually the highest AC in the front, second highest AC in the rear, decreasing AC from the front. This is to protect from the front (naturally) and to protect the rear from ambushes. If you wish to walk in some other order, then be my guest. Just let me know.
Current order: Garon -> Amon -> Papy -> Taicho
Papy Shayn |
Papy will examine the potions.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
I guess the dc is reached
"These are potions of lesser restoration! Taicho take at least two and if you feel strong enough, I'll take the third. But I don't my strength as much as a young Tengu like you!"
Taicho Munetoshi |
"Thank you Papy."
Taicho will drink two potions for Restored Str: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
"Feel much better. Next day feel fine."
GM Bold Strider |
Due to Amon's intuitive sense of the world, the group finds a labyrinth of tree trunks, bushes, undergrowth, and webs. The map seems to lead you through the maze.
Perception:
Papy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Garon: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Taicho: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Amon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
A few minutes into the labyrinth, the group plummets into a large pit trap.

Taicho Munetoshi |
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Amon Ione |
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Amon clamors down the pit. Slowly his picks himself up with a groan as he looks back up the pit and back at everyone else. Is everyone alright?
He looks to Papy to mend a few of the wounds with his wand before attempting to climb out of the pit.
Papy Shayn |
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Papy dodges the pit but almost fell. When he's balanced, hearing Amon he replies:
"Sure! Come back up!"
He looks into his small bag and takes a silk rope. He reaches a tree which he judges solid enough and ties the rope to it, letting the rope slide in the pit.
What are the dimensions of the pit?
Garon Neth |
falling into the pit taking pit damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 he waits for the rope to help him upclimb: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (4) - 3 = 1
"Thanks for the rope Papy"
Papy Shayn |
@ Garon: GM already rolled the dice for damage, it was a 4. And for the rope, I guess you can take 10. ;)
GM Bold Strider |
Garon and Amon fall into the pit, taking some damage, but they eventually climb back up. Covered in gooey webbing, the broken corpse of one of the Black Marquis’s men lies at the bottom of this first pit. As you venture deeper into the maze, you spot a few more dead bodies hanging upside-down in giant spider webs—all members of the ill-fated expedition.
The Pathfinders finally make it out of the cramped passageways and into a clearing. The web-covered trees here are still as ominous as they were in the labyrinth and dead leaves cover the ground. A few hundred yards beyond, a low hill bare of any vegetation rises from the sea of green. But what catches the party’s attention is a man in tattered clothes laboriously crawling in their direction.
Papy Shayn |
Puzzled by the scene, Papy observes in silence.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Taicho Munetoshi |
Is the man asking for help or making any other vocalizations such a moaning?
Papy Shayn |
Papy shares his observations with the group.
Garon Neth |
look at the man crawling towards us. if he does not make any moaning noises or is not evil I will say the following
"We should help this man"
Papy Shayn |
Papy begins slowly to move toward the man.
"Paladin, you should help that poor man!"
Taicho Munetoshi |
"Something nearby caused wounds ... I cover."
Taicho's gaze searches the trees and webbing nearby for anything dangerous ...
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
... and apparently doesn't see whatever it was that attacked this man.
Papy Shayn |
Papy forgot to memorize detect magic :'|
GM Bold Strider |
Garon rushes forward to help the man.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
As he runs to the man, he trips over a root and plummets 10' into a concealed pit. The group hears a laugh and skittering away from the area. The injured man's body slumps to the ground.
A large puff of spores erupts from the pit as Garon slams into the bottom of the pit.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

"Garon Okay?"
Papy Shayn |
