Sure why not! Jebediah adds with a nod. MAybe it'll take us to his secret cave! That would be exciting

You find a long twisting hallway that branches straight and to the left. The straight path leads around a corner and the left path leads to a door, adorned in the same way as the room with the accuser devil.

The shadows seem to jump and play much more as you walk through this area, due to the torches that light as you walk by. They seem to wink out behind you as you move.

"Well, we can guess what's behind the devil-marked door, eh?" Lukas remarks. "Let's see what's around the corner."

I think we've moved into the blocked-off area of the map, DMBS. Can you reveal the area we can now see?

Map updated.

The group rounds the corner to find a long hallway that turns once more and leads to another door adorned in a similar fashion as the last two.

Jebediah once again carelessly approaches the door. Just as he puts his hand on the handle he remembers painfull lessons learned not all too long ago.

Lukas quickly looks over the door and finds that this door is slightly different than the door to the accuser devil and possibly the second one they saw, though he can't be sure as they didn't study it. This door has a darker motif and the devil heads and other such adornments are replaced by what appear to be shadows or areas of darkness.

The walls of this room are covered with arcane symbols. In the northern chamber, a wooden table sits against the eastern wall, with several items laid atop it. A bright light shines forth from an opening in the south wall.

The light to the south seems to be a permanent wall of light that runs down the length of this hallway. The wall of light ends before a single small cell enclosed by a gate of bright metal etched with strange sigils that radiate strong abjuration magic.

Within the cell is an amorphous cloud of shadow, a shape that's difficult to fix one's eyes on. As you step from the light, the shadow realizes Hunclay is not among the visitors and the shadow coalesces into a female form that steps forward. She addresses you. "What's this now? I recognize you not, mortals. Are you minions of the petty human? If not, I plead with you to release me from
this unjust and outrageous imprisonment. Do so, and you shall be rewarded."

Then the halfling decides to find out for himself as he steps forward and explains a friendly smile on his face.

If by the petty human you mean the Mage Hunkley then we can inform you that no we are not his minions and in fact he has passed away. and we have come to investigate his home. But please tell us who are you and how did you come to be here?

Falzeal shakes himself from his wonderment as he gawks at the creature. "A shae? Er, I mean, pleased toeet you. Are you a shae?"

There doesn't seem to be a door trapping the shae.

"Yes, I am a shae." she remarks as the others look around. "You have to remove the light to let me leave." she remarks dryly as if you should have already known that.

As Falzeal seems to have no calms about the creature Jebediah moves to put the lights out.

Oh and while we are at it. What can you tell us about this place? And the mage Huncley?

Jebidiah looks around for some sort of flame to extinguish but it seems that the light comes from a magical source and he can't merely "put it out."

The creature sighs as she sees the halfling search for something to extinguish and even more so at his questions. "You lot aren't entirely knowledgeable, are you?" she asks, already knowing the answer. "Do you think that Hunclay toured me around the grounds and brought me here for tea and cookies? He summoned me into this death trap and tortured information out of me about the Dark Tapestry. That idiot doesn't realize that the Dark Tapestry and the Plane of Shadow are two different things."

"The Wall of Light is trapping me here. If I step into it, I will surely perish. You need to use some form of magic to disable Hunclay's ghastly spell. Luckily, he told me that he hid a powder that can do just that in his cave. Find his cave and then free me... as you promised!"

Lukas awaits the creature's answers, still unsure if they should trust her.

I still don't know if a 17 on Sense Motive rolled a while back told us whether she's being truthful with us. Any info from that roll?

You sense that she is being truthful and that she has no real reason to lie. If her word is true, then the death of Hunclay means that she is stuck in this 'cell' for the rest of her life.

"Of course not! I imagine it is where caves are! Mountains, hills, stuff like that! Haven't you found his map? It was in some book that he was scribbling in and he said some human word before he started writing." the shae states frustrated that you expect her to have all the answers for you.

"Hey, didn't Hunclay's journal say something about his 'safe cave'? Didn't Falzeal read that it was located just under a mile north of Belhaim?" Lukas recalls.

"And wait!" he continues, turning to the shae, "you say he said some human word before he started writing? We found a list of words, with all but one of them crossed out, but we didn't know what they were for! Falzeal, maybe you could try saying 'Dominion' while holding the journal? Unless someone has a better idea of how to use that word with the journal."

Kind of guessing here, based on reading back through the thread a bit, but want to keep us moving.

Dot. Lukas might be on to something.

"Maybe so, Jeb," Lukas responds, "though I don't know what the other secret words were supposed to mean. Anyway, let's take a look at the door we skipped, then we can try the secret word."

As they make their way back down the hall, he says hopefully, "At least the other doors marked with scary symbols only had some evil thing trapped inside them, and we didn't get attacked right away. Maybe that'll be the case with this one too."

Let's try the last door!

This ten-foot-square antechamber's north wall is an artfully wrought gate of bright metal taht opens on to the larger chamber beyond. The walls of this chamber are covered with strange glyphs and runes, including one enormous word scrawled in one-foot-high letter across the north wall.

"CTHEPALTANGOULGI"

A 10-foot-diameter, 10-foot-deep pit sits in the eastern portion of the room.

A voice seems to echo across the room, but the source is definitely the pit. "Here to gloat over me some more, wizard? And without your usual greeting? You'll play that game one time too often, and on that day I'll enjoy supping on your entrails."

You can't trip as an AoO from standing up from prone. It could potentially create a "triplock" where you trip, he stands, you trip, he stands....ad infinitum. The rule behind it is that an AoO is an interrupt that happens before the action. So your actually taking the action while it's still prone, and you can't trip someone already prone.

Dang, forgot about that wrinkle, Falzeal!

DMBS - I'll just use the rolls from my previous post but post new results here:

Lukas swings at the demon as it stands, then swings at it again and again!

AoO would be a 16 to hit vs prone and do 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8 damage. Other attacks would be as in my last post above.
