The unchained monk gets a ki pool at level 3, gets its first ki power at 4.

I am raging which gives me 6 extra HP, forgot to change my spoiler. So essentially at 6/41
Celes will grab her spear and which two hands thrust it towards the bear.

Falzeal decides to blast the bear with some more fire.
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Flame Strike-DC 11: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
The bear avoids most of the damage once more as it tries to kill the woman who has harmed him so severely.

Awesome damage roll for that flame strike, BS! Let's have Falzeal zap with his Sonic Blast next time, maybe?
Desperate to put the bear down, Lukas lashes out in a fury of fists and feet!
Another ki point (2/3 today) for an extra attack on my flurry! To little effect, I fear. :(

I do what I can! Also, I totally spaced that it has fire resistance from the Fiendish template, but I'm letting that slide, since I didn't tell everyone and Falzeal would have known.
Lukas strikes the beast with three massive punches, but only the third seems to have any effect.

A bit confused at Cles life total. Did you acount for Jebs CLWs there? Anyways here's another one. 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Jebediah draws on divine power once more looking to revive Celes limp form and take her from his ladies grasp.
GM Bold Strider |
@Jeb: She was at 6 HP. You gave her 8 more hit points to total 14. 17 points of damage was dealt so she fell unconscious. Thus, -3 HP. Her Rage dropped due to falling unconscious, thus she loses another 6 HP. Thus, -9 HP.
Jeb resuscitates Celes to the best of his ability as she coughs up some blood while crouched over on the floor.

Celes grabs her spear and tries to stab the bear from the floor, but the tired barbarian barely is able to stand, let alone stab through the beast's thick flesh.
Falzeal decides to step up his game and blasts the creature with a gout of arcane magicks.
Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4
The bear turns to Lukas who has been giving it a nice shiatsu massage and takes a few swipes at the monk.

Claw @ Lukas-17 AC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Teeth and paws rip into Lukas' body as he begins to feel the searing pain of the bear's ire. In one fell swoop, Lukas goes from perfect fighting condition to fighting for his life.

Lukas reels under the punishing attack, then draws deeply on his inner strength, hoping to take down the bear once and for all!

And Lukas takes down the bear with all of his might!
The chest contains 3,200 gp worth of coins and gemstones. These aren't auctioned, but are instead sent directly on to Hunclay's cousin, assuming your report this finding. Sitting in the top desk drawer is a ring of keys that looks like it can open most of the locks in the manor. A scrap of paper sitting on Hunclay's nightstand seems to contain a few bawdy limericks, but Hunclay doesn't seem like the poetic type.
The armoires and wardrobes store rich clothing worth a total of 850 gp. Sitting on the writing desk is a gold ring set with a fat black pearl worth 1,350 gp. These will likely form a single lot at auction.

Lukas looks over his companions who look to be in rather shoddy shape.
Well the lady almost had you two there he says with a sigh. I guess it would be best of we returned to town. You two don't look like you can take a nother fight and my powers will not suffice to get you in shape.
It's either that or put heavy strain on the wand?
Lukas Kains |
Wisdom check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Jeb and Falzeal - would you guys roll for those checks, so we can see behind the spoilers?
Lukas breathes a sigh of relief as the bear drops, then turns to Jeb and says, "Some rest would be a good idea. Celes looks pretty beat, and I'm not feeling great either. And we had six days to get the job done, so we can afford to rest, if we don't do this too many more times."
[Ooc]
Celes Rose |
Ugh, that sucked. Damn, friggin. BEAR, as she punches the now dead bear straight in the gut our of anger and frustration.
I could go for a couple ales and a good night sleep, but like it has been pointed out, can we afford the time?
Jebediah Lillywag |
Alright then let us continue on if we are in a hurry.
Jebediah offers as he pulls out his wand.
Those who are injured just roll for the wand as often as you need it and let me know how many charges we burned

"Hmm, interesting, Falzeal," Lukas says as the arcanist theorizes about the limericks. "You think that perhaps it is a cipher or some other such hidden message and we just need to find the key word or phrase to deduce its true meaning? There was a word in something of Hunclay's that I remember seeing, but I can't quite recall..."
DMBS - sorry, I've looked through the thread and am not finding the word. Did it have anything to do with the charm we took off the caged bird? We never really found out what that was, I don't think.
Lukas Kains |
Lukas scratches his head, trying to figure it out.
I've searched through the gameplay thread for lots of words - book, journal, note, word, written, writing - I just can't recall or find what we have of Hunclay's that had words in it. Sorry to be so lame. Anyone else?
Edit: Wisdom check to see if I'm worthy of a clue: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Apparently not...
Jebediah Lillywag |
From checking back the last few pages I noticed we found plenty of books. Did we leave them in the library or bring them back to town? Either way we should look through them to see if we can find any hints.

"Careful, Jeb," Lukas warns, "this place is full of unpleasant surprises!"
He watches the halfling climb, studying the ladder above Jeb for a moment in case it's got a rung covered in razors or a tripwire that will drop magical flaming poisonous acid on all of them.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
GM Bold Strider |
Within this glass-domed chamber is an enormous telescope that sits upon a platform over a veritable sea of metal gears. An angled metal chair sits below the device, within reach of a cluster of pedals and levers that enable its occupant to perform adjustments to the telescope's orientation. Tables covered in books and charts occupy the southeast corner. The view of the surrounding skies afforded by the glass dome is breathtaking in its expanse.
Lukas Kains |
Lukas joins Jeb in checking out the telescope, his curiosity once again getting the better of him as he climbs into the angled chair. He gently depresses a pedal and moves a lever back and forth to try to figure out how the thing works.
"We should come back here at night and take a look," he suggests, "I've heard that rooms like this are mostly used to look at stars, and we won't see any of those now."
GM Bold Strider |
Lukas begins to climb into the chair of the telescope as a cackling is heard echoing through the opening in the glass dome. Jeb sees what looks like an obese infant, but with leathery skin mottled with spots of grime, curling ram's horns, sharp blackened teeth, and black eyes with no pupils. The thing flies about on four leathery bat wings outside the dome laughing as Lukas sits.
Click!
The cushion depresses a hidden lever under the chair which sends 400 volts of electricity through the body of the monk.
Shocking Chair: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) = 13 DC 20 Reflex for half.
Gears start to wind as the group can feel electricity running through the metallic floor. The monk has the sense that the trap is resetting.

Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Aargh! So close! With Evasion, I would have taken no damage!
Lukas almost manages to leap from the chair before he's zapped, but not quite. He scrambles down immediately after, grimacing in pain and hopping up and down, his hands on his poor, electrocuted butt. "Ouch, ouch, ouch! That hurt!" he cries out. He points to the weird thing above the glass dome and says, "What the heck is that?"
Knowledge (planes) or (arcana)?
GM Bold Strider |
The creature flaps its way into the room and draws a wand, likely a gift from Hunclay or stolen from his manor. With a wave, he activates it as a crackle of electricity sears through the air, piercing through Jeb and Falzeal.
Lightning Bolt: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 4, 6) = 20
DC 14 Reflex to halve.
Jeb retaliates with a blast of acid at the beast, barely singing its skin, but still doing something.

It's not clear to me if the homunculus is now within melee reach. Assuming it is, here's what I'll do:
Calling out, "Spread out, so he doesn't zap everyone!" Lukas races around the edge of the telescope platform to the flying fat baby's side and gives it a powerful punch!
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Unarmed Strike damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Crit damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
If it's too high to reach, Lukas will stay where he is and throw 2 shuriken at it. I'd like to keep those attack rolls if I can (attack bonus is the same, so hit results will be same), so here are damage rolls and a crit confirmation:
Shuriken damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Nat 20 to hit from above
Shuriken damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 17 to hit from above
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Crit damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
