I honestly read that as "Though I may save my penis for something fun...." on my first time through. Sigh. My mind sometimes.

Anyway, I'll post purchases soon. Not sure how much we get from the Fires of Karamoss, but I'm pretty sure it's about time I got some extra AC. Some boots of speed would be outstanding also.

Speaking of item purchases, does anyone know if I can use a scroll of fly? I know it's not on the cleric list, but I get it as a domain spell. May be worth picking up a scroll of fly x 2 with some PP. You know, just in case we get into a fight like the last one!

I think I am two more chronicle sheets away from a +2 weapon... and I think I might save up for it. Might be kind of fun to go to the con with a +1 keen wakizashi.

...

Ok after that little pause in typing that you have no idea about, I did some quick and dirty math to see if keen is really any better than just another straight +1 to damage.

Essentially, I get an additional 15% chance to threaten with a critical. Assuming I confirm every critical, I would do on average an extra 5.5 damage.

15% of the time, I do 5.5 more damage. ie - over the long average, I do an extra .825 damage with every successful hit, using the "dps" philosophy. That of course, assumes I confirm every single critical, which won't happen. If I just make it a straight +2 wakizashi, then I guarantee an extra 1 damage on every hit, and 2 damage on every critical hit (which would only happen 15% of the time, assuming I confirm every crit)

I am pretty sure I did my math right - Its just crazy to think that the keen enchantment is still not mathematically any better than a regular additional +1. Over a long time anyways - when you average out lots of attack rolls.

Sorry if none of that makes sense. It does in my head.

So after all that, I may still save up for that next tier enhancement bonus, but I might just stay with the +2, or add something like shock to it, since that works on every successful hit (provided the enemy isn't immune to electricity)

Sorry for the nerd number dump!

Interesting math, if you're fighting against bog-standard enemies and have a bog-standard character build. However...

Keen is worth it if you have a 18-20 threat weapon (as you do)... but (!!!) only if you are feat starved (ie. you can't get improved critical) or your BAB won't be +8 any time soon... AND you intend upon eventually going through the critical focus tree or your class has abilities that apply on critical hits (eg. swashbuckler's panache regen, rogue's bleeding critical, etc). Getting class abilities (and feat effects) to "proc" more often can really make it worthwhile.

Also keep in mind that when facing off against a creature with DR you can't overcome, the damage calculations go off the charts in favor of keen.

Furthermore, your calculation assumes only a 15% extra chance... but it's not, at worst it's a 15.7% chance (3 in 19) since a 1 never hits. Mostly, though, it'll be a much better extra chance at a critical - because your damage calculations will only come into effect on a successful hit. If you assume you need better than a 10 to hit, that's an extra 30% chance of a critical threat. As for confirming... well, that's up to you, your feats, your traits and the dice gods. ;-)

... and against the critical thing, some enemies are immune to it (like portals to the plane of fire, for example).

Long story short: If your character is built around getting critical hits (even in part) then keen is worthwhile. Otherwise... pass.

Dice Rolls | Tactical

Lort is right - see Finarin can deliver Shocking Grasp through this scimitar, so for me Keen is essential to crit on a 15-20. Then I crit on shocking grasp. This level, that would be 10d6 of electricity, next level 12d6.

We have gone down this road before, you are all excepted to share some information with Uliyara in an attempt to gain Influence Points.

Please provide, in character, a brief background, such as your homeland, religious beliefs, and your rolls in the Society, strange lands you have visited, strange objects you possess.

After, you may Use Diplomacy to befriend her, Bluff to tell wild stories, Intimidate to appear dangerous, or Kn (Geography) to accurately recall your travels.

At the end, also inform me if you wish to scrutinize Uliyara, give me a Sense Motive, or Perception Check.

so, finally got the chance to update Gunari... was a long weekend, finished off by a fridge that decided it didn't want to cool things.

So, his major purchases are adding +1 to his shield, and getting the Tankard of the Drunken Hero

1/day Remove Fear
1/day Heroism
1/day bonds are removed
+1 Resistance to Fort & Will...

And he gets that for 4770 because of his Master of Trade boon!

He is also getting cold weather gear, and I'll drop a gold on "supplies" for the trip (mainly beer).

@Amaranti, both are great.

Gunari's gonna use 6PP to get his Rod of Extend Spell after his next scenario -- using Expedition Manager again (it is not a one-use boon!)

Of course, this will mean he's gonna probably never have enough PP to get a raise... but if the tools he buys with the PP keep him alive, then no big deal!

Have just north of 10,000 gp to spend. My first inclination is to spend it on defensive items so I can continue buffing without much worry about harm, but I don't attract much attention anyway. Any thoughts?

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

May I suggest the Tankard of the Drunken Hero -- it is a great item for worshipers of Cayden Cailean.

I would suggest the following (assuming you don't go with the above)

Headband of Alluring Charisma +2 (4000gp)
Perhaps replace your +1 Chain Shirt with a +1 Mithral Shirt (or +2?) -- will help a lot with your ACP.

Maybe a Circlet of Persuasion to get +3 to ALL Charisma based checks (technically, not just skills!)!
Would add to for you:

  • Diplomacy
  • Disguise (I think)
  • Intimidate
  • Perform
  • Use Magic Device

And, since you have versatile performance (need to get that second perform soon!) it helps with Bluff and Sense Motive! For just 4500gp!!!

Sovereign Court

Male CG Halfling Bard 6 | HP 33/33 | AC 24 (15 Tch, 21 FF) | CMB +1, CMD 14 | F +7, R +10, W +8 | Init +7 | Perc +11, SM +12 | Speed 20 ft | [ooc| Inspire 16/18[/ooc] | Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4 | Active Conditions: Short Sword shrunk

So, +2 Mithral Shirt would be 5,250, Circlet would be 4,500, could sell +1 Chain Shirt for 625. Net would be 9,125. Is my math right?

If so, I would like to make those purchases and sales, John!

huh... just found a cool item for both Lort and Gunari...

Hallowed Chalice

Basically, stores a Channel Energy for 24 hours (though cannot be spilled, etc). I'd assume that most adventuring ones do contain the lid.

That'd be pretty cool, eh? Have enough to hold all of their channels for 24 hours, so the day before they go out, they channel as many times as they can, and then have some extra healing the next day. Like a reusable potion of CMW, depending on level.

Will have to buy some after this scenario (or if we stop somewhere that has traders)

Basically, a great way to store channels for use the next day. Lort could get more than one (one per channel!) I know Gunari will be getting a couple, though he tends not to have may fervors left at the end of the day when adventuring (and he needs 2 per channel)

Ok, so Cyrus and Miro both crushed their checks, and you are free to head to Naldak's Point.

Since this is my last day of easy posting, I thought that we could flesh out the RP a bit more here. Not sure how Damien feels, but this is the part of the mod that can really shine., yet gets only a small amout of text space. I know word counts, and such, but a bit more would do well here and I wanted to make this better.

Also feel free to visit any merchants, and what not, buy your chalices boys, and when you want to move on I will move us to Naldak's point and get that sky piece. It is half a days march, or 5 miles. and the baroness will grant you that no problem with Miro's roll.

We will say that you depart in the morning, and meet Haltani by the gates. You gain all dailies, and what not crunchy stuff.

Sorry that I haven't been up to snuff on this one, next mod I run, after Damiien unless he wants me to run one before GenCon, I promise to be back to 'normal'.

Doing a great job, John. I liked this part and really felt that they brushed over the merchants in favor of that optional complete and utter silliness at Whiterook. They should have removed (or glossed over) that encounter in favor of spending more time on this one.

You're doing a wonderful job of bringing Dalun to life. Much better than I did with the IRL group... but then I had a dude with a severe stutter, his overbearing dad, his younger brother who had never roleplayed before and seemed to detest the concept, a guy in a denim suit that wouldn't stop combing his long curly hair at the table and an actually pretty decent roleplayer... who was playing a barbarian.

Me: "Want to chat to the merchants? We have <blah, blah, blah> who you could talk to."
Table: "Errr, what for?"
Me: "The mission! Set up some trade routes. You have letters of credit you can use to seal the deal."
Table: rattle rattle "I get a X on my diplomacy roll."
Me: "Fine. You pass. Let's move on."

2) Depart in morning, make purchases, and regain all dailies

3) 3 Hour march, 3 Fort checks. Accounted for cold weather by lowering DC instead of adding +5 made it easier for me

5) 1 hour to melt ice wall - heal up and heals fatigued

6) Rigiory attacks
