Did the beetles attack from reach?

I'm guessing this doesn't count as a charm or a compulsion...

Trevor can't help but bring his hands to his ears, unable to react!

Yes it was from reach. Trevor the description lists the ability as being enthralled and the enthrall spell is a charm effect, so I saw it should apply and give everyone else a +4 to their will.

That also mean Trevor is immune! He's only susceptible to Rowena's peculiar charm ;)...

GM, your description states that the knight walks up to me, but he's quite far on the map. Please adjust my description as needed.

Trevor moves sideways in order to bring his fauchard to bear, asking Iomedae to guide his blade: "Fiendish profanity! All these years you have sustained yourself through the darkest of means. This day marks your end, and this blade will see the Inheritor's work done on this plane!"

5-foot step, SwA Smite Evil, Hasted Full attack. First attack to hit should do an additional 12 damage vs undead.

Fauchard, PA, FF, SmEvil, Haste: 1d20 + 22 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 22 + 4 + 1 = 331d10 + 25 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 25 + 12 = 40

Potentially 125 damage. If Trevor can't full attack, he has Improved Vital Strike 2d10 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11, so his first attack should do 63 damage.

AC 27/14/25, HP 107/107 F: +10+1, R: +6+1, W: +14*+1

Quintus takes a short step back to let Kelkzar move up, then calls down holy power on the three foes.

Channel energy for damage; DC 19 Will save for half damage.

I set up the map before initiative and everything. Fixed the map, just forgot to move him

AC 26/T 26/FF 20; F/R/W +14/+15/+14; Max HP 111; Current HP 110 Effects:

Rowena reaches for the thing in front of her, reluctant to do so.

Trip: 1d20 + 26 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 26 + 1 = 41
If successful...
AoO VS: 1d20 + 20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 20 + 1 + 1 = 31

Then she reaches for the other beetle.

Damage: 2d6 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 8 + (1, 5) = 19

For her hasted attack, she will smack the one she hurt most, or reattempt a trip if one of the others failed.
1d20 ⇒ 17 A 44 trip or 38 natural attack versus prone.
Damage: 2d6 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 8 + (6, 3) = 29 If she did an attack.

Will Save Kelkzar: 1d20 + 12 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 12 + 4 = 35

Will Save Beetle #1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Will Save Beetle #2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Will Save Kyuss Minion: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23

Trevor combines for a pair of deadly hits on the Kyuss fighter, while Quintus blasts all of the undead with positive energy.

Rowena takes the large beetle and flips it on its back. She immediately follows up with a pair of attacks. Then she moves to the other beetle but is unable to flip it over. However she does not give up and flips the other one over with her magically hasted attack. Both are now prone

Kelkzar is unaffected by the noises from the beetles and continues to attack it. He makes his weapon bane vs undead and attacks.

Falchion #1: 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 15 + 1 = 34
Confirm Falchion #1: 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 15 + 1 = 17

Falchion Haste: 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 15 + 1 = 31
Confirm Falchion Haste: 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 15 + 1 = 28
Damage: 2d4 + 20 + 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 20 + (3, 3, 5, 5) = 41

Kelkzar hits the Kyuss fighter with two attacks of his falchion, killing the undead minion. He takes a step towards one of the beetles.

The beetles flip over back onto their feet, drawing attacks of opportunities from Rowena and Trevor. Assuming you have some!

These attacks are reliant on surviving any of the AoOs, which is most likely.

Beetle #1 attack vs Rowena: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (14) + 23 = 37
Improved Vital Strike Damage: 12d6 + 11 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 1, 1, 6, 3, 3, 2, 3, 1, 4) + 11 = 52
Negative Energy Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2

Beetle #2 attack vs Trevor: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (11) + 23 = 34
Improved Vital Strike Damage: 12d6 + 11 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 2, 5, 3, 3, 3, 1, 3, 5, 6) + 11 = 50
Negative Energy Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7

This will put Rowena at -9 hps

Stuck between a rock and a hard place... Assuming our AoOs don't bring them down.

The beetle's pincer crushes through Trevor's metal armour like it was but wood, and he feels some ribs crunch before he can slip away.

Intent on beingin the unholy knight down, Trevor asks for Iomedae's grace as he opens with a flurry of fauchard stabs.

Trevor I may not have made it clear enough that the unholy knight was killed by Kelkzar, so I will use your attacks vs the beetles

Rowena and Trevor combine and some attacks as the beetles flip over, and both take significant hits with Rowena unable to withstand its bite. Trevor makes quick work of the remaining beetles however with 4 mighty swings of his Fauchard.

Combat Over!

Once Rowena is taken care of Rauno checks out the items that unholy knight had on its person.

"Thanks Quintus. I'm still in a bad shape, but I think Rowena is worse..." answers Trevor, taking a long look at the unholy knight laying on the floor. "Who do you think that guy was?"

AC 26/T 26/FF 20; F/R/W +14/+15/+14; Max HP 111; Current HP 110 Effects:

Rowena barely hits the ground unconscious before Quintus' energy brings her around. She frantically brushes off any worms or remains of worms. Nodding thanks, she stands and picks up her weapon.

"That...was gross!"

If she hasn't already, she gets a Mage armour from Rauno.

You do have mage armor

AC 27/14/25, HP 107/107 F: +10+1, R: +6+1, W: +14*+1

How far down was Rowena? Since we were out of combat, Quintus would open up with rebuke death to get her conscious before channeling to heal.

Rebuke Death: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Rebuke Death, if that didn't get her up: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

AC 26/T 26/FF 20; F/R/W +14/+15/+14; Max HP 111; Current HP 110 Effects:

She was at -9, so those rebuke deaths will give her an extra 17.

Quintus of Taldor wrote:

"Who else is wounded?"

"I am well."

While Quintus tends to the wounded, Rauno examines the remains of their foes. Looking at the fallen warrior, he says "These items have power to them, and we should take them. They can supply an ally, or we can sell them to further finance our quest."

The design and styles of the weapon and armor match those from Kyuss's four elite guards from your first vision of Kyuss's time.

There is nothing else in this room save the passage way to the east that lead to the double doors.

AC 27/14/25, HP 107/107 F: +10+1, R: +6+1, W: +14*+1

CSW on Rowena: 3d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 6, 7) + 12 = 27 x 150% = 40 HP
CSW on self: 3d8 + 12 ⇒ (1, 3, 7) + 12 = 23 x 150% = 34 HP

Quintus cures Rowena for another 40 HP, cures himself of minimal damage, then channels to heal again.

Channel energy: 8d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 4, 3, 6, 5, 2) = 35

Trevor takes back 35, Rowena takes back 75 total, and Quintus takes back 69 HP.

With a heavy heart I am going to have to cancel this game. I was trying to keep it going through to the end, but my schedule at work has been brutal, and my involvement with my son's activities like baseball, basketball, etc has increased giving me little to no free time to give to the game.

I want to thank everyone who has been with the game from the beginning, including Kelkzar and Tilnar . You have all been some of my favorite players which include 35 years of roleplaying. If there ever is a day we can gather and play again I would consider it an honor to be able to do it.

I hope you all the best and hope you can all continue gaming in whatever platform you can. For me, I am down to the 4 times a year with my high school friends (The ones I used to play Age of Worms with and we are doing Skull and Shackles now). I'm hoping to start up my Monday night games at my house or find another game to play or run with some of my local gaming circles here once things hopefully settle down again.

Feel free to stay in touch, either my messaging me r emailing me if you still have my email address. (I can share with you in a pm if you don't have it). And sorry Tilnar for having you generate a character and not being able to continue.

Wow...

I can't say I did not see it coming, but it's still sad nonetheless.

You've done an incredible job in keeping the game going and turning modules into adventures and tales of friendship facing the darkest of evil.

This is certainly one of the greatest games I've played in, thanks to you and this group of incredible players.

Many thanks for that and all the best for your future projects.

AC 27/14/25, HP 107/107 F: +10+1, R: +6+1, W: +14*+1

Restarting at this point would have been hard, and I sympathize wrt life events. (Fortunately one of my kids has moved out and the other is working and going to the local community college, so I don't have that particular time sink.) Thanks for keeping this going as long as you did, GM B. It was a lot of fun, and definitely one of my favorite PbP games. As for everyone else, see you around the boards sometime. Happy gaming!

AC 26/T 26/FF 20; F/R/W +14/+15/+14; Max HP 111; Current HP 110 Effects:

I thank you too for the great game. I was hoping we'd make it, but it was not to be. We certainly went a lot further than most PBP games (and further than my RL AoW game ever got), so kudos on that.

Rowena shall retire into the ether of the Paizo server, so when it goes down in the future, you'll know it was just Rowena practicing her ki throw...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would just echo what the others have said. This has been one of the best games I've been in, RL or PbP. Thank you for all of the time and energy that you put out there for us; this has been some really great storytelling! I am glad that the RL pulls on you have been for the positive (rather than illness or other hardships), and I do applaud your priorities. I hope we do get a chance to game again; maybe if I can eventually break away and hit some conventions to the east....

And just to throw it out there, I had planned to take Immortality at level 20, and I already knew what Rauno's final post would have been.

"My friends, I have one last prophecy to share with you." Once again, Rauno's voice took on the air of power and the echo of prophecy as he spoke.

"For the hardships and terror you have endured, you each shall live out your days in peace and happiness. And I shall wander the lands for millennia to come, seeking signs and omens of dire evils threatening the lands. And when it does, I shall put able heroes on the path to confront it, but none shall ever be so capable, loyal and heroic as you."

Happy gaming, everyone!

Thanks everyone I truly appreciate all the kind words. I'm always up for going to Gary Con here in Wisconsin (and going with my son this year!) and I think I may be going to Gen Con this year with my friends, so who knows!

I love the final words Rauno, just perfect!

And since we are giving out end game things, the man you met in the beginning, Harold was actually the Herald of Iomedae and the Empryeals (and would have been available to help you near the end from greater planar ally spells.

You would of met Trevor's father....sort of :)

And Rowena (and everyone else) would have had her chance of revenge against Raknian!

and if you guys want, I can sum up the rest of the AP if you are interested.

Spoiler please. I prefer not to know :)

Yes, I'd love to know!

Spire of the Long Shadows:

Exploring the ruins you come across many other Kyuss undead creations and followers. Among these foes are a Naga sorcerer, huge worms called Overworms controlled by undead wormcallers, and more of the elite Kyuss guards. The worst of the remaining Kyuss follwoers is Mak'ar, Harbinger of worms, the architect of the Age of Worms. It is a planar traveling spellweaver lich. Destruction of Mak'ar is a powerful blow to Kyuss but also brings you into his attention as a serious threat.

You achieve more visions of Kyuss and the past as your progress, and the destruction of Mak'ar destroys all of the remaining kyuss undead in the ziggurat. The visions and more study by Mazorian lead you to your next location, the bandit city of Alhaster. Trevor's father had traveled there to seek advice from someone named Lashonna.

Prince of the Redhand:

Traveling to Alhaster, you find she is unavailable, but will be at an invitation only party thrown by Prince Zeech. This is the best chance to get an audience with her, possibly the last person to talk to trevor's father Balakarde nearly a decade before.

The owner of an entertainment establishment has a number of invitations, but you must convince him first that you are worthy and interesting enough to earn the invitation. After telling stories of your deeds you get the invitations you need.

However during the passing of the week of time before the party you acquire a rival that you meet again at the party, clear out the remaining cultists of the Ebon Triad in town (the rest of the cult you encountered early on), and locate the lair of the black dragon Ilthane the black (From the lizardman lair and most recently killed at the Whispering Cairn) and you finish off the last of her brood. (and gain all of her loot).

Finally the party begins and you find yourself among the rich and powerful, some friendly, some not, including Raknian and the hobgoblin rival you ran into in town. However you must walk a fine line here as Zeech is unstable and you must avoid offending him. Making some allies here can help later in the story. After a number of various disturbing events that you struggle to tolerate, Lashonna arrives and the feast begins.

The feast is a multi course one which is disgusting and disturbing. The first is the feast of worms, grubs that look, but are not, like Kyuss worms. Zeech's bard tells a tale. The second course is a 24 blackbird pie which the bard sings a song. The third course is fantasy's version of a turducken, which is a tojanida, stuffed with basilisk steaks, stuffed with arrowhawk breasts, in turn stuffed with stirges.(Tojbassarrirge). The course if horrible, but you must try and not offend the prince who invented the "delicacy". The fourth course is a purple worm aspic followed up with a bragging contest. Last course is a sweet cake in the shape of a massive project that Zeech is having built, and it falls apart, but the bard swoops in and convinces the prince not to slaughter his cooking staff.

Finally there is a dance where partners are constantly switching which Raknian uses to taunt you once more while in safety.

Finally you get to talk with Lashonna about Balakarde, or at least you do as soon as the party ends and you can get to her place.
