In this Adventure Path, the adventurers help restore the crumbling honour of Westcrown, fight against a decades-old curse, and do battle with an enemy far more deadly than any simple fiend, all in the hopes of returning a measure of splendour to this long-beset metropolis.

Brand Firestorm Human Sorcerer
Delgata Pesur Varisian Rogue
Kaddok Bear-Kin Shoanti Barbarian
Keth Longstrider Half-Orc Ranger
Krokod Firetongue Varisian Oracle
Nebuchcanezzar ?? Wizard?

Ill be altering Keth a little to more fit him growing up in Westcrown and being a hunter that provides food to the city.

Ill work on that tonight

Hey Viluki, I tried to figure out what Nebuchanezzar exactly was but couldn't track it down easily. Just wanted to say Sorry, I didn't overlook you on purpose. ;)

This is more so folks know our party classes when we are doing the 'restructure' :D

Hello!

Will check out the campaign material, I know nothing of it. Should have everything set in a day or two.

When is the campaign planning to start, just for a time frame.

just saying hello, please underrstand that this will take a while my fellows. As I am not the type to with just a few thoughts reflavor or create an entirely new character. Rather I go through a process of creation that involves 1 drink coffee, 2 eat chips, 3 eat chocolate bar, 4 come up with idea,5 trash the last idea come up with a better one and so on...

I don't have a specific day but...as the week-end is my slowest time and Monday is my wife's birthday, I suggest next Tuesday if we can all work to that.

I'll be on the boards during that time but to start the adventure, I'd want to be focused for a good few hours to make sure it begins well.

Over the past 24-hours, you were all approached individually by an attractive dark-haired woman who wears leather like a very close-fitting second skin. Despite this, her choice of clothing in general downplays her figure and her beauty. She introduced herself as Janiven, her voice calm and business-like.

”You’ve been watched from afar and I represent a group that is concerned with your ongoing struggles with this government – and it is abundantly clear that it has wronged you. Unlike so many others in your position, we believe you have the potential to do great things in the future.”

”I understand immediately from your expression that it’s unreasonable to expect trust in a stranger. Having said that, what would it take to entice you to an early dinner I have arranged for tomorrow at Vizio’s Tavern? I can promise you more information and you can make your mind up about the group I represent then. If we don’t convince you to join us, then you are free to walk away – no questions asked.”

Feel free to play hard to get – but not too hard to get. Oh, and ‘an early dinner’ means about 4 o’clock. Post your responses individuially, I'm assuming you'll all have a separate conversation with her.

During this women speech to him he will puff his chest up slightly as his ego gets stroked.Great things in the future? Why miss you must be horribly mistaken, I have a cascade of great things that I have already achieved, so much so that they are very difficult to keep track of. But adding to my above average pile of great things is something I always keep an ear close to the ground to hear. Oh most generous host I will take you up on the promise of a dinner meeting; I must warn you it is not me you need to convince. You need to convince him....

Delgata takes from his shoulder the crow Gus, holding him in both hands arms stretched straight toward the women. Gus blankly stairs at the lady in an awkward moment of silence. He caws quickly and Delgata puts him back on his shoulder to perch, the black bird struts up and down his shoulder until it finds suitable footing and gets comfortable.

Honestly I do not know what Gus wants, looking at the bird I was hoping for more of a sign..

Gus then flies from Delgata's shoulder and over to the women perching on her leather clad shoulder.

Thank you, Gus. Yes miss you have convinced the man the government has truly offended and we will both meet at your dinner to see your offer.

Brand looks at Janiven and his cheeks redden. The women of his village never wore anything so revealing. He looked down at her hips and felt his pulse quicken. Why is it always the dark haired ones?

He composed himself and stood up straight. ”Yes, my troubles. I don’t think you know how bad this is for my family. Or my sister. We’re on Thrunes’ rather long list now, and people on that list have a propensity to disappear.”

Pausing to let what he’s told her sink in, he continued. ”The Firestorm family would benefit little from adding ‘traitor’ to the title of ‘seditionist’ upon its name. So unless you know where my sister is or can get me in to talk to her I have no desire to bring the fury of the crown down upon me. Although the invitation is most welcome.” With the grace of an awkward teenager he gave her a flirty wink.

An odd question but is writing character actions in past tense better than present tense or is it just a matter of preference?

Krokod was in a foul mood before the woman approached. His cousin was dead, and for some reason, no one was bothering to look into the whys or wherefores. There were times he was angry enough to lose control of his voice.

But as always, a shapely form distracted his ire. Krokod had been wandering the streets considering going to a tavern anyway, and here came Janiven, a beautiful woman asking to meet him at one?

The first thing he did was check for a wedding ring or other sign of matrimony, then he smiled, "Whoever sent you clearly knows the weakness of a man, well, any man with eyes." He inclines his head, "I am... displeased with some current situations, but I am not a Cheliaxian. Tell me, why should I seek trouble rather than merely wiping the dust of this land and its government from my feet?"

"Oh, you are dangerous my dear," Krokod grins despite his words, "But there is no denying what truth you say. I would enjoy it, but I would not be such a cad as to make a woman feel hostage to me. I invite you to share a meal with me, my treat. Come if you like but I will still show at this meeting regardless so you need not feel obligated. People should do what they do because it brings them joy to do so. Or so I have always thought. If you think you would enjoy my company in return, then by all means, let me buy you a meal."

Perhaps she or her allies know the truth of my cousin's death. They wouldn't have to try hard to be of more use than the guards. Besides, I should be mannerly to such a lovely woman anyway. It's only right.

Brand looks with an admiring smile at Janiven and reddens again.

"I'm sure that you can, my dear." He puts a hand on her shoulder as he walks behind her. His attempt to be smooth is almost comical, but ends up being quite endearing.

"You know, I have a rule: Never turn down an invitation from a beautiful woman. And since I am told that manners are their own reward, how could I refuse and be doubly damned?" He gives her a very slight bow and kisses the back of her hand.

"I look forward to seeing more of you tomorrow." With that he turns and stalks off down the street, hoping the redness and the heat in his face will fade by 4 o'clock the next day.

In the back of his mind the voice of Grim gnaws. Be careful, young one.

When the last of you enter the tavern, she asks you all to introduce yourself to the rest of the group. ”Nothing too revealing,” she says, ”but enough for your fellow guests to understand why you are here – and I think you know what I mean.”

A sharp looking young man is sitting at the table with his hands crossed looking like an innocent child that just stole a pie. Krokod enters into the tavern with a smile and greeting to Janiven. His garb while suited well enough to defending himself, accents his true roll as a performer. After all, performers go almost everywhere and few make note of it, particularly when they head to taverns.

A young man sat at the table listening to the stories of the other men. He looked to be a nobleman, not yet twenty, and well groomed in a quality white doublet and sturdy green pants that matched his eyes. His long red hair was tied back with a similar green band and his good natured but serious face was framed with a red goatee. He seems at ease but eyes both the raven and the dog with apprehension.

"I am Brand, and my story too involves nefarious dealings with the government. I arrived in Westcrown last week to find that my sister had been arrested. I have been unable to find any trace of her, nor able to contact her. The government will tell me nothing!" His voice rises as he says it and he strikes the table with the heel of his fist.

Realizing too late that he has made a scene, he eases back into his seat and looks like a child out of his depths. "I apologize, please continue. This is most revealing."

Animals have always been skittish around Brand and he around them, it was an old 2nd Ed disadvantage called 'Unnatural Aura' or something that was kind of cool and has stuck over time. He tends to walk quite a bit. Funny that the group should have two animals in it.

If you scored 15 or above for Sense Motive:
You sense she’s worried about something, but seems forthright in general, although she glances at the front window every few minutes.

Janiven seems momentarily agitated, then calms herself, explaining that “shadow beasts” stalk these unlit streets after dark. ”I happen to subscibe to a little credited conspiracy theory which holds that they were put into place by the House of Thrune to oppress the citizens of Westcrown and consolidate their infernal power. Now I have no proof of this of course…” and she ends her speech with the flick of a hand.

She then continues, ”Don’t worry, I assure you that the meeting will not keep you here after dark, but should you wish to stay the night here, I can make arrangements as necessary. But you've asked me some direct questions and you deserve an answer.”

Dinner is effectively over, and with still a few hours to go before sundown, Janiven locks the front door and shutters the windows, then takes a deep breath and thanks you all for attending the meeting.

”Don’t worry, we’ll be done in less than an hour, with plenty of time left over for everyone to get home before sunset.“

“Again, thank you for agreeing to meet with me here. I have chosen each of you for a singular reason — everyone here, myself included, has suffered, whether we realize it or not. I have lived in Westcrown my whole life, and although I love this city, I must admit, as must you, that despite our peace and prosperity, we continue to suffer. Fear should not be an expected part of life, and yet each night brings fear to our doorsteps. Yes, Westcrown has been safe from war and famine for nearly seventy years, and yes, our businesses have prospered — but this safety and prosperity has been bought in the coinage of fear and prayers to Hell. Other lands live free from tyranny. Other cities do not fear the night. Other governments do not cede the streets to monsters of the infernal shadows. Westcrown was once such a place, and she wants to be such a place again. Westcrown is not only her buildings and canals and docks and history — she is also her people. Westcrown is our friends and neighbors, our mothers and fathers, our siblings and cousins, our sons and daughters!”

”With but a small group of supporters and dedicated brothers and sisters, we can earn the trust and admiration of those people. A Westcrown free of these shadowy beasts that stalk our streets is one step closer to a Westcrown free of the devil that is the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune!”

You all appreciate that Janiven’s words are, of course, treason — you all know a friend of a friend of a friend who was taken away by a Hellknight or executed after a swift trial for speaking less inflammatory words than Janiven has just uttered.

Brand stands and gives her his most charming grin as she finishes her speech. He's taken by surprise at her passion and her cry for freedom. He had not hoped that others shared his innermost thoughts. Thoughts that, when placed on paper, had gotten Gwen arrested.

"To hear it put so plainly, and with such fire." His eyes gleam in the light of the candles. "It does service to the heart."

He walks toward her. "In Kintargo, the people do not fear their government, there is freedom and law, not devils and hushed meetings in darkened alehouses. I told you I did not desire to heap the title of Traitor upon my family name, and while that holds true, should a government not serve its people? Should it not look to the betterment of all? Is it not traitorous to your fellow man when you set by idly and let them be taken in the dark or slaughtered like swine?"

He turns to the others. "None of you do I know, nor yet trust. And the same can be said of me to you. But something must be done. A cancer eats at the heart of this city and it consumes us all with its fever. We here can set the blaze that burns it away."

You suspect she was talking about creatures that dwell on the Shadow Plane, only rarely venturing onto other, brighter planes, and that can be summoned by shadow callers.

These "Shadow Beasts" are likely creatures of the plane of shadow which means Cheliax called in some favors from Nidal and it's Zon-Kuthonites. However to summon such creatures requires a spell of calling or of binding, a spell of calling is not such a great feat an apprentice conjuror could master it with enough understanding of how to employ a magic circle of summoning. However what you are suggesting if it is true is that these creatures come out each and every night to patrol the streets. Which means for such a long term arrangement that a spell of binding had to be employed and even with the aid of a magic circle no apprentice could manage such a summoning. Which means that we are dealing with a relatively powerful mage, if that mage is killed then it is likely that the creatures will go back home. The question is who is performing the summoning and where can they be found?

Delgata licks his fingers clean after the early dinner.

You all have wonderful speeches, moving really, no sarcasm. I am happy to join forces with others that have such a wide vocabulary, even if new words are all I learn. I do not think I have an option in the matter; the spirit of the man I wish to avenge has possessed a crow from Magnimar and led me across the ocean to this meeting. Since I have vowed to avenge him it seems only right he call the shots. His name is Gus, had to tell the door man he is a peregrine breed of avian rarity sought by collectors with keen eyes and sense of style, only way he was getting in. He is just Gus, do not let him fool you.

Gus bobs his head up several times to prove he is an exquisite bird.

Sabotage, mayhem, slander, hopefully arson, and definitely murder are what I seek to avenge him. Murder in the sense of eye for an eye revenge not mass murder. Since many... all of you have the same blight as me we should make quite the little band of troublemakers. Happy to make your acquaintances my name is Delgata.

"Shadows and Devils and Rebels, oh my," Krokod says torn between amusement and being genuinely impressed, "Some part of me says running out of here and heading back to Varisa is the sanest thing I could possibly do... but... well, sanity isn't a virtue I'm known for."

Keth listened to her impassioned speach and nodded. Then Brand and others spoke and he found himself being caught up in a maelstrom of emotion. From the corner he stood and softly said My Mentor told me that all it takes for evil to win is for good men to do nothing. I'm In!...Wolf?

But then the Boy jumped up and seemed to be joining in their cause..and he turned and said Wolf? Well of course I know what you call me. WOOOF! Dont know why I felt the need to bark. but heck why not.

Apologies if I ninja someone, but I suspect the posts are broadly finished.

As the questions die down, a sudden excited pounding at the front door disrupts the meeting.

Immediately adopting a defensive posture, Janiven peers through a window at whoever’s knocking, then swiftly moves to the door, unlocks it, and opens it.

In stumbles an out-of-breath and frightened-looking teenager.

“They’ve got Arael!” he calls out, then immediately doubles over in a fit of coughing, no doubt brought on by a long run.

Janiven’s face grows grim as she comforts him and asks him to explain himself; in a moment the lad recovers enough to spurt out, “The dottari nabbed Arael, and the Hellknights of the Rack are trying to get custody of him! There’s a bunch of Hellknights on their way here now! I only just made it in here; they’ve already surrounded us!”

At that point, the sound of clanking armor advancing on the tavern becomes apparent.

Janiven remains calm and faces you. ”I’m so sorry for involving you in this matter.”

At this exact moment there is a hammering on the locked doors of the place and demand in booming voices for those within to come out and give themselves up.

Janiven tells you to follow her. She and the young lad, who by now has introduced himself as Morosino swiftly move behind the tavern’s decrepit bar, where they lift up a heavy trap door in the floor. As the pounding on the door increases,Janiven breathlessly says that this shaft drops down into the Westcrown sewers.

”If we travel this route, we should be able to lose the Hellknights quickly.”

Keth Jumps up and heads towards the Trap door and the shaft beyond. I can see in complete darkness. Allow me to take point. With that he drops down into the sewers, spear at the ready. He steps to the side and listens intently perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 +2 if what he can hear is human

how disgusting. The wolf wrinkled his nose at the horrible stench coming from the sewers. How can the humans not notice this?

But he leaped down and moved away from the opening sniffing the air and grumbling.
