Storn of Gorum |
"I hate this curse," complains Storn. "We killed a giant and we're taking her treasure and I'm still sad about it. Let's move."
Sander Thistlewight |
"Most of it's not worth its weight. It's sad to destroy such a piece of craftsmanship -- I wonder who made it -- but Molly's right about the gems being what's valuable."
Head to the double doors to the south. Kipa checks them and then we go through, which will be our SOP.

DM Bigrin |
The stairs wound downwards into the fort, ending at another set of double doors. After giving Kipa time to check them out and determine their untrapped nature, Storn and Dieter opened the doors in their typical fashion. Their warshouts were met with an echoing silence. The small amount of light you carried barely pierced the gloom of a large room, easily as big as the common area on the upper floor, filled with rows of decrepit, mildew-ridden wooden shelves, piles of half-rotten crates and barrels, and mounds of stinking furs. A strong, sour stench fills the air.
Quill the Fletcher |
Quill sniffs, then immediately regrets the action.
"Well, where to now?" Quill asks, looking about.
Do we have a map? Hard to say where to go next with no map nor description of possible exits or avenues of advancement.
Sander Thistlewight |
"Well, I feel like this probably this smells like it's the way to the dungeon..." Sander says, trying to identify the odor.
If he's satisfied that the smell isn't some sort of toxin and Kipa says the way is clear, we'll enter and look around.
Storn of Gorum |
Storn lets the little quiet people go first, but if they are reticent he just plops a light spell on his sword and stalks into the room to investigate.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 2 = 8
Dieter Stolzdorf |
Dieter follows Storn. Not too closely, of course. While he may be muscle-brained and brutish, he understood the sacred nature of the personal bubble.
DM Bigrin |
The room is large, and Storn's light barely reaches the far walls. He moved into the center of the room cautiously, followed by Dieter and the others. Looking down, he noted that the mounds of smelly furs look more like bedrolls than just piled supplies. Looking off to the west, Storn saw a pair of doors leading out of this storeroom, though the direct path was blocked by some crates and a set of fallen-down shelves. Taking a side path, he neared a large cauldron set on a firepit up against the northern wall. The cauldron was easily three feet across, and the lid was covered in dust...except for a single large handprint.
Kipa |
looking around Kipa is still trying to shake off the effects of teh skull it seems. Trying to get his head back into the game he takes a look around the new enviroment they seem to have ended up in.

Storn of Gorum |
Storn miserably directs his light spell around the room to aid with Quill's search.
Kipa |

Storn makes his way over to the doors, pushing through to the next area once they make sure there's no nasties or traps waiting for them.

Kipa found no traps on the door, but it was locked. It was the first locked door he had come across in this place so far, and he eagerly got out his tools and fiddled with the lock until he felt it give way. He motioned to Storn, and the big man kicked the door open.
The large room beyond had obviously once been an armory for the fort, with racks for both weapons and armor lining the walls, and a large sand pit in the center of the floor. A headless skeleton lay in the sand, surrounded by a network of slightly glowing glyphs and a trio of large ogres chanting softly in unison.
As the door sprang open, the larger of the ogres looked up in shock, then he growled out a command. The other two spun in place, grabbing for the spiked clubs at their sides. They were females, obviously, and the smiles of malice on their faces did nothing to enhance their already wretched faces.
"Kill them and eat them, my lovelies! They have disturbed the ritual and must pay for their temerity!"

Sander's bomb flew into the ogress' face, and she screamed as it ruptured, freezing her face and chest, and spilling cold liquid onto the sand below. The giantess thrashed in pain, and looked at the halfling with pure hate.
The male ogre whipped out a wand, and began waving it back and forth, chanting in his own tongue.

Molly's lightning bolt blasted through the wounded female ogre, sending her fat body joggling like a harvest pudding held by a two-year old, then continued on to strike the chanting male ogre. The ogre twisted away, dodging most of the blow while his runed skin seemed to absorb the rest. The small scorch marks left on his torso told of a very minor wound.
The ogre finished the spell and a pop of displaced air heralded the appearance of a creature behind you. The dire bat swooped at Quill's head, its wings buffeting the elf as Quill ducked away from its biting fangs. The ogre cast another spell, this time a dark bolt of energy that splashed off the wall behind Storn.

Quill spun and launched an arrow at the dire bat, followed by another. The bat fell from the air, crashing into the elf, it's long fangs ripping a line down Quill's neck and collarbone as it collapsed to the ground. Kipa tried to get in a shot of his own, but Storn and Dieter were blocking the best shots at the ogres, and Kipa's arrow flew wide. The two female ogres moved forward, their greatclubs swinging, but Storn easily parried the heavy blows.
