Elris the Hawk Eye |
Elris, tired of this creature's mischief, spins on the ball of his left foot and kicks the door with all his might. "I am tired of walking around a library that shouldn't be flooded! Come on out!"
Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Constantin the Azlant |
Constantin looks approvingly at Elris, "Well struck!
GM Batpony |
As soon as the door opens, a bottle of ink falls upon Elris, messing up his clothing and bumping his head a little.
This large chamber is crammed with desks and lecterns designed for copying scrolls and manuscripts. Along the north wall, a tall, broad shelf sags with sheaves of parchment, while near the exit to the south, a stack of ceramic ink jugs stands near wall-mounted racks of quills. Two bays of windows on the west wall offer an impressive view of the Lodge’s greatest landmark, Skyreach Tower, while the eastern windows overlook the library’s main stack.
In front of you, a giant crocodile lies on the ground, and at the back of the room, a kitsune seems to be studying some scrolls!
trap: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 3and-10 on stealth in the scenario unless you clean up
Initiative, Naxian: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Initiative, Yesmoro: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
Initiative, Marenalia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Initiative, Elris: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Initiative, Constantin?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Initiative, fox: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Initiative, croc: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Round 1 Combat

Fox, Croc
Aiden
Constantin the Azlant |
Rather than be consumed by a crocodile, Constantin will hang back, reminding everyone of the knowledge that has been destroyed and that which can still be saved!
Begin bardic performance, and I'll move into the doorway for LOS purposes if/when Elris leaves it.
I'm currently giving +2 on attack rolls and damage rolls, +1 on saves vs. fear and charm (a mix of competence and morale)
Elris the Hawk Eye |
Eye twitching slightly, the elf pulls out his bow and fires a shot at the lizard thing! "I ask that you stop what you are doing "Virml" and come with us quietly."
Inspired Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 1 + 1 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13
Marenalia |
Marenalia holds her staff in front of her and then with a surge of arcane power causes it to fling itself at the reptile before returning to her hands.
Attack roll with Hand of the Apprentice: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage Roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Yesmoro Soulsnatcher |
Yesmoro, slightly loath to attack a reptile, hesitates for a second. He then notices the arrow between its eyes and the quickly swelling bruise from the staff, and rushes forward.
Ax, Rage, Flag, Inspire: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Damage: 1d12 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
GM Batpony |
The combination of super well synchronized attacks from the three pathfinders kill the crocodile, and it breathes it's last breath of life, winches and turns upside down indicating death.

Fox,
Aiden
GM Batpony |
The fox laughs in the face of danger. "Hah! Give up? When I have the upper hand!" And pulls out of his pocket a tanglefoot bag which he immediately throws in the direction of Naxian. As the bag hits Naxian, there is a moment of silence as nothing happens, confusion ensues, but after a second everyone realises it was a dud and continues combat!
Tanglefoot, range penalty: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 2 = 7

Yesmoro Soulsnatcher |
Yesmoro runs straight at the fox, swinging his axe sideways from overhead, trying to brain his opponent with the flat of his weapon.
Axe, nonlethal, charge, all those other bonuses: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 2 - 4 = 8
Damage: 1d12 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
The operative word, of course, being tried.
Marenalia |
Marenalia moves into the room to get the fox within range of her spells.
"Your pet is dead. You are outnumbered."
You guys are in the way of the color spray I was going to use
Naxian |
Naxian moves closer to get a flanking strike. He takes a swing with his rapier.
"You should of given up. You are outnumbered and helpless. So be it. Today is your last.
Flanking Rapier: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Critical: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
No hit this time
I think I got that correct this time
Constantin the Azlant |
Constantin moves forward now that the crocodile has been slain and tries to hook his whip around our foxy foe's feet! Unfortunately his foe is too quick for him, and he's forced to drop his whip to save his own footing.
Trip: 1d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 + 2 = 3
Still doing my real job of providing Flagbearer and Inspire Courage
GM Batpony |
Naxian, I moved you up to reach the fox, position wise there was no way you could be flanking, but you should still be adding Constantin's attacks to your roll and damage. So you receive another +2 for damage. If you were flanking and successfully hit, you should have got a 1d6 extra dmg of sneak attack.
"Surrender? Hah! You can't touch me!" As he speaks these words the kitsune dodges Yesmoro's axe and jumps over Constantin's whip. But he get's a flesh wound as Naxian's rapier scratches him.
Round 1/2 Combat
Bold may action
Constantin, Marenalia, Yesmoro, Naxian, Elris (-3)
Fox (-5)
Aiden
GM Batpony |
The fox noticing he is surrounded, carefully manoeuvres around the three surrounding him with his quick and agile feet, tricking them into getting past them.
Looks like he was successful to not provoke AoO, to pass through Yesmoro = CMD+5 = 18 DC, and his acrobatics roll > everyone's CMD
acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
And he attempts again to pass through the bard and the wizard, however he's not take lucky this time as he slips on a banana peel.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Double move at half speed are his actions, AoO for Marenalia and Constatin, if possible, I don't think Marenalia has any weapon that she can AoO with.
Round 1/2 Combat (AoO round)

Constantin the Azlant |
Constantin swings gamely if not fiercely with his cestus as his foe stumbles. I do hate resorting to fisticuffs.
AoO: 1d20 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) - 2 + 1 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d4 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) - 2 + 1 + 1 = 1
Once the fox is passed, he withdraws a pat of butter before calling on it to bring forth a larger less gastronomical Grease.
Constantin the Azlant |
Not that with a 2 and a 1 this was gonna change things, but remember you get Flag/Inspire Courage bonuses :)
GM Batpony |
And once again, the foxes feet proves to be too tricky for the pathfinders, dodging and jumping over every threat at hand.
Round 2/3 Combat (AoO round)
status: Flag/Inspire Courage
Constantin, Marenalia, Yesmoro, Naxian, Elris (-3)
Fox (-5)
Aiden
Marenalia |
Marenalia moves so that she can cast a spell to attempt to incapacitate the fox without her ally being caught in it.
casting colour spray, save DC 15
Constantin the Azlant |
Reflex DC of 14 for Fox vs. my Grease as well
Naxian |
Rapier: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
Naxian takes a swing as the fox passes him."I got fur with that one fox."
Im assuming those bonuses for Flag/Inspire Courage are correct. Also wasn't sure about critical damage on an Aoo round. That was a great roll though.
GM Batpony |
Naxian, my mistake, the AoO round is over, only Marenalia and Constantin got the AoO. We're doing normal round now. So you can still keep your attack roll but you must move into position. Constatin, the grease was during your normal round and not the AoO round I suppose?
fox, Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
fox, Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
stun/blinded: 1d4 ⇒ 3
The fox Manages to maintain his balance from the grease that Constantin casted, but he's not quick witted enough to avoid the color spray and he is stunned and blinded!
Round 2/3 Combat
status: Flag/Inspire Courage
Constantin (?), Marenalia, Yesmoro, Naxian (Pending move), Elris (-3)
Fox (-5) Stun/Blinded 3 rounds
Aiden
Elris the Hawk Eye |
Elris moves in and curb stomps the downed fox, aiming to not kill the creature.
Non Lethal Kick: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Constantin the Azlant |
You are correct; I misunderstood the AoO round.
GM Batpony |
Let's make this a little simpler since the Fox can't do any actions for 3 rounds. He's got AC12 after the colour spray, if you can muster 10 more nonlethal damage, he will be unconscious, and you are free to capture him!
Aiden Richter |
Aiden steps up to grab the unconscious Kitsune. He pulls out a set of manacles and clamps them on the fox's wrists. "Let's see you pull any tricks now."
He searches Kitsune for any weapons or clues.
A manacled creature can use the Escape Artist skill to slip free (DC 30, or DC 35 for masterwork manacles). Breaking the manacles requires a Strength check (DC 26, or DC 28 for masterwork manacles). Manacles have hardness 10 and 10 hit points.
GM Batpony |
Aiden finds on the fox, another two pieces of parchment, one of them looks to be the final piece of The name of the fox, and the other one fitting the cuttings of the one prior to it. On top of this, you find on the fox several items. A potion of cure light wounds, a potion of spider climb, 2 sleep arrows, a masterwork chain shirt, buckler, shortbow, and a catching cape.
Updated handouts
Aiden Richter |
Aiden takes the potion of spider climb. He waves to the rest of the items. "Anyone want anything? He won't be using them." Then the Chelaxian goes over to inspect the texts and scrolls that the Kitsune was looking at.
"We seem to be missing one piece of this riddle. I suppose we could wake him up and question him."
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Constantin the Azlant |
I'll take the cape. Despite his faults he dresses well. As for the missing riddle, we can get information either from him, or perhaps hidden elsewhere in the vaults.
GM Batpony |
Let's try to make this as smooth as possible.
The Kitsune wakes up and attempts to struggle loose, but his attempts seem to be futile as the menacles are far more superior than his own skill.
"Hah, well played, so you caught me. But I escaped a magical prison once! So don't think this will hold me long."Upon noticing a piece missing, he thinks long and hard. "Hah! I thought that was on me, looks like you can't even solve this riddle now!"
Let me know which way you head towards!
Constantin the Azlant |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
It seems our trickster's been tricked out of his riddle. I think we should search the room south of where we found Virml B4 unless someone proposes a particular path?
Constantin the Azlant |
Pondering the riddle, Constantin smiles. Caught, were you? By the riddle I mean. I had thought that there was no true order to these odes, but the idiosyncratic inscriptions suggest that their cadences are correctly apprehended as a constrained concept. The poems' purpose is in prisoning whoever interprets it impatiently, leaving them - Caught.
GM Batpony |
Someone's got ahead of the game!
At the words of Constantin, the Fox's jaws drop in shock, and he stutters in disbelief, unable to put together any comprehensible words. The parchment suddenly glow an purple tinge and attempts to resemble itself, sewing itself together, however with a piece of the parchment missing, the spell falls short, and everything reverts.
Aiden Richter |
Aiden whistles a low tone. "Ok, so that's how it works. We got to find that missing piece of the riddle."
"Let's go back downstairs. There's plenty of rooms we haven't finished searching. But first, let's bring him to Mistress Koi. She promised to clean up all the water. That should make searching easier."
Constantin the Azlant |
Good point Aiden, that should make things a lot simpler, and hopefully save a few more scrolls
Elris the Hawk Eye |
"From the sounds of things my friends, it that our fox here will be sent back to the prison he once came from. Maybe Miss Koi is the keeper of said prision?"
GM Batpony |
Unless there's any objections, the next long update we'll go to the room south of B4 as Constatin's suggestion! Let's give it 12 hours.
Aiden Richter |
"What Miss Koi does with the fox isn't of concern to me. If she wasn't flooding the archives, this all wouldn't be an issue. Hopefully she can clean up the water, so we're not sloughing through this place like a swamp. And no other texts are damaged in the meantime."
I'm good with the location. Just hoping she can clean up the water.
