Varian Amari |
"They seem to be made of chains... chain devils maybe if there's such a thing?"
know planes: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
"Actually, I'm pretty sure there's no such thing." lol, sigh
Brock and Misha |
"But we haven't got what we came for, and I wager their master does." Brock is fine with the momentary stalling while he casts lockjaw on his treant, which has no jaw, giving it's 1st slam the ability to grab with spindly branches. He will then wait for Ralph's moonlight bridge.
If and when it appears he'll let out a whistle that turns into something of a snort as he becomes more bull-like in expression and behavior. It'll be his only warning as he charges the closest of the infernal creatures, Misha hot on his heals to give whatever these are a good bashing.
GM Batpony |
Are you going to bubble yourselves again before walking over the bridge? Guess we should get combat going soon! But need to know about the bubble, and also need reflex save when you walk past the gap. (Violent chains moving..)
Brock and Misha |
Bubble will last 2 hours a person, so unless we've been here a while it's still going.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Misha the Tree |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Varian Amari |
Varian casts levitate again, in case he slips, he won't fall, then he'll cross the bridge.
reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
GM Batpony |
I'll resolve the reflex save when you cross the bridge. I'll move us straight to combat to not waste anymore time
zac: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
mark: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
shonne: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Round 1
I'm on mobile but once I'm home I'll update with active buffs.
Ralph, Zac
Lord Maravon, kyton
Markus, Shonne, Varian, Brock
The white squares is the moonlight bridge.
Zac Freelan |
Zac moves over to the Yellow guy reflex: 8 + 1d20 ⇒ 8 + (6) = 14
Then he will swing his axe with power attack hit: 11 - 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 11 - 2 + (9) = 18
dmg: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 6 = 14
Ralph~ |
Prayer gives +1 to all those saves, and then also that Damage, and To Hit.
Move Action
Ralph steps up to get the chain being to the North in pistol range.
Swift Action
"Aim carefully now, ya hear?"
Ralph sets his aim. Using Focused Aim from the Mysterious Stranger archetype, 1 grit, add Charisma to firearm damage for a round.
Standard Action
He fires upon the chain being. Yellow.
Pistol Attack (Touch Attack, Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Prayer): 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 = 30
Pistol Damage (Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Prayer, Focused Aim): 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 6 = 18
I'm assuming there's some kind of miss chance due to chains, right? Rolling below.
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 89
A crit with a x4 gun? Let's see if I can confirm!
Crit - Pistol Attack (Touch Attack, Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Prayer): 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 = 12
Oh come on... REROLLING @ +5 with shirt reroll.
Crit Reroll - Pistol Attack (Touch Attack, Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Prayer, +5 GM): 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 + 5 = 21
Crit - Pistol EXTRA Damage (Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Prayer, Focused Aim): 3d8 + 3 + 3 + 12 + 3 + 18 ⇒ (1, 3, 3) + 3 + 3 + 12 + 3 + 18 = 46
"Well, that was one in a million."
Cold Iron & Magic
Free Action
"GET EM, ANGEL."
Angel~ |
Move Action
Angel climbs down, crossing the Moonlight Bridge.
Standard Action
Angel tries to bite the chain being next to her. Blue.
Bite Attack (Power Attack, Prayer): 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 2 + 1 = 30
Bite Damage (Power Attack, Prayer): 1d8 + 6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 4 + 1 = 16
She tries to grab.
Grab Attempt (Power Attack, Prayer): 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 13 - 2 + 1 = 24
You're kidding, right?
Crit - Bite Attack (Power Attack, Prayer): 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 11 - 2 + 1 = 20
Crit - Bite Damage (Power Attack, Prayer): 1d8 + 6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 4 + 1 = 16
GM Batpony |
If you're 10ft apart. 20% miss chance. If you're 30ft apart. 50% miss chance. Unfortunately, you're not that lucky! the AC is 25!
This is my GMing a tier 8-9, the combats look so brutal!
As Zac crosses the moonlight bridge, the enemies become more visible to him, and the chains swing violently and hits him as he makes his way through to the enemy, clearly being thrown off balance from the chain, his swing goes wide.
chain, Zac: 1d8 ⇒ 4Slashing damage
Ralph aims his gun at one of the Kyton's and the bullet hits it! But does not do as much damage as he'd hope.
Cold Iron & Magic did not overcome the DR
As Angel makes her way across the bridge, the chains swing violently at her as well. But she avoids them with ease.
reflex,angel: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Angel gets a nice biting sink it the creature hurting it a little but her attempt to grab the chain being failed.
The Kyton's retaliate the attacks, soon Angel and Zac find numerous Blue on Zac, Red and Yellow on Angel. They have range 10ft chains nearby them striking them in all directions! However, luckily for them, they avoid most of the chains taking minimal damage.
Blue,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 162d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6
Blue,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 152d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
Blue,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 262d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
Blue,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 272d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7
Yel,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 122d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
Yel,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 182d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
Yel,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 242d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5
Yel,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 212d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7
Red,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 122d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9
Red,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 202d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
Red,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 262d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
Red,chain: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 212d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10
The human Lord does something in the dark, akin to buffing himself. Since he has concealment from everyone due to chains, I believe you don't get to spellcraft his buff.
Round 1/2
Active Conditions: Prayer
Ralph, Angel -24, Zac -9
Lord Maravon, kyton Y -13 B -11 R
Markus, Shonne (Bull's Strength), Varian, Brock
Lord Maravan Buffs:shield,haste
Did I miss any buffs?
Ralph~ |
Keep in mind that the gun is a touch attack. I'm pretty impressed if they have more than 21 touch AC. :)
Any buff on Ralph and Angel are in their stat line.
Varian Amari |
Varian casts dismissal on one of the devils, hoping to send it back to hell, then he steps up behind Zac.
will, dc 18 negates, casting on yellow
GM Batpony |
My bad! I forgot about the touch attack! The Yellow creature is at -59!And looks like it's about to die.
Varian, you should know this... but no teleportation spells of any sort would work in this plane. It was highlighted before!
Ralph~ |
Adding my point of grit back for the crit, then. :)
Varian Amari |
ok... changing my action then... just crossing the bridge and attacking blue.
Varian crosses the bridge and attacks the bluish chain creature.
to hit: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 32
dmg if hits: 3d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 1) + 5 + 1 = 14
nice to hit, lousy dmg, ah well...
Shonne |
With a word Shonne disappears.
Invisibly, she races for and leaps the bottomless chasm.
acrobatics (jump): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
Als reading through the room descriptions again I noticed that vision impairment might be a thing here (darkness and all). If that's the case, Shonne would have cast alter self (into a drow for darkvision, and +2 size bonus to Str) rather than or before bull's strength depending upon timing.
GM Batpony |
Shonne, you would have time to do both, there is darkness but to be clear, the miss chance is vision impairment from all the chains. So regardless of your darkvision /low light vision, the miss chances are always going to be there.
Varian connects with the creature as he hits them, but with the chains getting in the way, his hit is becomes somewhat cushioned.
Shonne moves swiftly in the dark without ease as she becomes invisible.
Round 1/2
Active Conditions: Prayer
Ralph, Angel -24, Zac -9
Lord Maravon, kyton Y -59 B -20 R
Markus, Shonne (Bull's Strength, alter slef, insivibility), Varian, Brock, Misha
Brock and Misha |
Since Misha has a climb speed can she position above Angel in the chains? These two large companions are all in each other's way!
GM Batpony |
Technically yes. But be wary that the Kyton's are attacking using by controlling the same chains that hang in the room.
Markus 'Earthquake' Kalepo |
Markus joins his companions in moving across the bridge and hurls a knife at one of the chained devils.
Attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (14) + 19 = 33
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 20 Miss
Damage: 1d4 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Brock and Misha |
Brock is a bit concerned over cramped quarters, but plows forward despite his reservations, Misha hot on his trail as she swings through the chains more like a monkey than a large tree. He'll step past the tiger with a hunter's callous disregard for a large predator and bring his blade to ready, waiting to swing at the blue Kyton for when Misha is in position beside him, trapping both within her reach.
Move to in front of blue, ready attack to attack once Misha is threatening, which triggers immediately.
+1 Adamantine Great Sword(Power Attack, Pack Overflank, AF, Prayer): 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 11 - 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 = 18
Damage(Precision, AF, Flank, Prayer): 2d6 + 1d6 + 13 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + (5) + 13 + 1 + 1 = 23
Misha the Tree |
Misha swings through the chains with the greatest of ease and stops above Angel, swinging down with one large branch to try and bash the blue creature over the head with a branch.
Move action to approach, standard to whack blue.
Magical Slam(Power Attack, Pack Overflank, AF, Prayer): 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 13 - 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 = 23
Magical Slamage(Precision, Power Attack, Animal Focus, Prayer): 1d8 + 1d6 + 14 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + (2) + 14 + 1 + 1 = 23
Acid Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Zac Freelan |
Unless someone healed me, which I don't think someone did, I was down 8 HP going into the fight. I was hit by a chain for 4 HP and by a blue chain guy for 9 and 7 HP. Does my damage reduction of 2 apply, cause then I was hit for 4 and 7 and 5 HP. Unless I missed something, I think I'm down 20 HP instead of 9
Zac Freelan |
Anyway, I will five foot shift to yellow and power attack. Not sure if a shift counts as a move or if I would get a full round action, again, my first experience with a character above level five in pathfinder/3.5 so going to give both attacks in case.
hit: 11 - 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 11 - 2 + (6) = 15 dmg: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 6 = 19
hit: 6 - 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 6 - 2 + (8) = 12 dmg: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 6 = 22
the attacks seem like they missed anyway
GM Batpony |
5 foot is a free action so you can full action with your iterative attack. Yeah you're right on the dmg, just keep forgetting your dr and the earlier dmg
GM Batpony |
Fighting among the chains proves difficult for the group, Markus's dagger gets caught up in one of the chains where as Zac and Brock also are hindered by them when attempting to land a solid blow against the enemy. Misha with her great size and strength though, fares a bit better, knocking a good amount of wind out of the Kyton with the blue chains.
Round 2
Active Conditions: Prayer
Ralph, Angel -24 , Zac -20
Lord Maravon, kyton Y -59 B -43 R
Markus, Shonne (Bull's Strength, alter self, insivibility), Varian, Brock, Misha
Ralph~ |
Swift Action
"Let's try this again."
Ralph sets his aim. Using Focused Aim from the Mysterious Stranger archetype, 1 grit, add Charisma to firearm damage for a round.
Full Attack
Ralph tries to finish off the kyton he damaged the most. He is going to use a point of grit for each attack to make them touch attacks using the Deadeye deed. Might as well use it all lol. Taking account for cover and range penalties in the attacks.
Going to be using alchemical paper cartridges, so this is just Magic damage, and his misfire is now 1.
Starting on Yellow and moving to Blue if Yellow drops.
Pistol Attack (Touch Attack, Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Prayer, Rapid Shot, Cover, Range): 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 - 2 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 1 - 2 + 1 - 2 - 4 - 2 = 19

Pistol Damage (Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Prayer, Focused Aim): 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 6 = 17
Also a 5-foot step.
Free Action
He directs Angel to attack.
Angel~ |
5 ft. step first.

Angel tries to mangle the Blue kyton next to her.

Grab Attempt (Power Attack, Prayer): 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 13 - 2 + 1 = 30 - If the claw hits.
GM Batpony |
Ralph, unless I'm missing something, you still have a miss chance.
Miss:<20: 1d100 ⇒ 3
Ralph fires a couple shots into the darkness, you hear some ricocheting sounds, but when everyone looks around, it seems nobody was hit at all.
Angel on the other hand manages to sink her teeth and claws through the chains taking out one of the enemies.
And once again, the creatures attempt to retaliate by forcing a few adjacent chains on you to attack. The red creature attacks Misha, while the Yellow one on Zac. Brock and Zac seem too sturdy to be effectively affected by the chains, and brush them off taking little damage.
red: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 282d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
red: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 302d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6
red: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 272d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

yellow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 142d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
yellow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 212d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
The Lord continues to mumble something in the darkness, and suddenly. (?: 3d4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4, 4) + 1 = 13) 8 additional figures of him appear.
Round 2/3
Active Conditions: Prayer
Ralph, Angel -24 , Zac -24
Lord Maravon (mirror image), kyton Y -59 R
Markus, Shonne (Bull's Strength, alter self, insivibility), Varian, Brock -6, Misha
Zac Freelan |
Zac does not like missing, but he has to make sure to pierce through any damage reduction it has as he knows he won't damage if he doesn't power attack, so again he pulls back and follows through with power attack.
hit: 11 - 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 11 - 2 + (17) = 26 dmg: 1d12 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
hit: 6 - 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 6 - 2 + (15) = 19 dmg: 1d12 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
He does this after he five foot shift back to the yellow one of course, as he gives the yellow one a dirty look because he keeps shifting back.
Markus 'Earthquake' Kalepo |
Spotting an unoccupied opponent amidst the swinging chains, Markus turns his attention and his knives that direction.
Targeting the red chained devil.

Shonne |
5-foot move. Draws wand. Silently taps Zac with it.
wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Psst! Think the tree has to be 10 feet up, otherwise it's crowding the tiger.
GM Batpony |
He does this after he five foot shift back to the yellow one of course, as he gives the yellow one a dirty look because he keeps shifting back.
Lol'ed
Zac continues swinging his weapon against the Kyton finally managed to connect and strike him down.
Markus throws a bunch of daggers, and this time they connect better to the villain, hurting him quite a bit.
Shonne sneaks from behind and provides some support to Zac.
Varian, since Yellow is down, I'll let you retcon that action. Btw, what weapon are you using to attack, if it was a melee attack you need not roll miss chances.
Round 2/3
Active Conditions: Prayer
Ralph, Angel -24 , Zac -18
Lord Maravon (mirror image), kyton R -32
Markus, Shonne (Bull's Strength, alter self, insivibility), Varian, Brock -6, Misha
Varian Amari |
yes it's melee, but it's a reach weapon, so the attack is made from 10' away instead of 5' away, i thought I'd still need it, but if not, ignore the miss chance. it is a magical, cold iron lucerne hammer, so DR applies. He'll move on red instead and only take the first attack.
GM Batpony |
Sorry, yes you're right. 10' still occurs a miss chance. Red takes damage but is not yet unconscious, -48
Ralph~ |

Brock and Misha |
I didn't post yesterday because I wanted to see if the Kyton would be up, and I've been stuck at work all day.
Brock and Misha will join the swarm converging on their dark castery and raving mad opponent. Blade and branch will come in together with a much more wordless cry of combat from the hunter. He really wants to sound like a vicious tree, but they mostly sound deeply squeaky, so it's not that impressive.
Move action to Move, and standard to swing.
