In what seems to be a perfectly coordinated strike, the group moves in and subdues the mite with relative ease. Flyn fires more shots into the crowd and Kiboko lights the way for Qatala as she performs a whip take down.

The mites are all unconscious.

The door is made of oak, a very old door, with a nice metal handle. There's nothing significantly special about the door itself. It is neither locked, nor trapped from what you can tell with your eyes.

There is an eerie silence as you try to hear for any movement inside.

Flyn frowns. "The door is unlocked...and doesn't appear to be rigged. I hear nothing from the building...just an unsettling silence...

If the derros are here, their silence might mean they're aware of us...could be waiting for us...or perhaps they're not here and the mites were guarding something for them...

How do we wish to proceed? Deyno, you went around the building...are there any other entrances?"

Kiboko ensures that the mites are not bleeding to death (casting Stabilise if needed). In the hope that they might understand symbols better than words, he takes an arrow and scratches a crude image into the dirt next to the fallen mites. It is a drawing of a broken chain.

After a short discussion, Kramac waste no further time and proceeds to kick down the door. What awaits them was not a surprise to anyone to say the least. This 15-foot-by-30 foot room is clean and dust-free. A stack of barrels in the southeast corner are the only furnishings.

A horde of giant rats with sharp teeth salivating awaiting for the first person to enter the door, behind them a couple of warrior humans holding a shield and a club, and behind them what appears like some demented form of short folk standing three foot high, similar to a halfling or gnome twisted into a horrible new form. Their skin is a pale, sickly bluish color, while their hair and milky eyes are pure white. Their eyes bulge from their head, giving them a frantic appearance. Could this be the Derros?

Going to end combat...

With full force, the rest of the group fall in to take down the last two Derro's. They slavers are no match for the Pathfinders. They fallen creatures have a few trinkets and weapons of them, but nothing highly valuable or anything of particular interest. In the corner of the room though, there is a chest with approximately 5,500 gp. You know this because Pathfinder's are expert accountants and can calculate all that in your head with the size of the stack of coins.

The door Karmac opens reveals what is in the next room. Straw pallets are stacks and stacks of cages full of normal rats. The smell absolutely atrocious. On a small table next to those cages is a small, shiny black rat statue.

detect magic:
The rat statue is absolutely magical, beyond your knowledge and comprehension. It reveals a extremely strong aura of transmutation.

There is ledger in the room, along with some notes. Everything is written in undercommon.

Undercommon or Linguistics DC 20:

You are able to understand that this is the ledger for sales of slaves, with an interesting not ethat slaves sales over the last couple months has surged. Also the note mentions about a human woman who escaped not long ago and the mite slave that was beaten to death for allowing it to happen.

Back tracking to the other rooms that seem occupied, when you enter them you find dozens of malnourished humans, trapped in cages. You can only assume this are slaves.

If nothing else, next post in 24 hours will be the conclusion of this scenario, giving space for some roleplay / last minute things you want to do.

Flyn flashes a wicked grin at Kiboko as he looks at what is undoubtedly the jet rat. "Kiboko, my old friend, you were right...'tis a black rat indeed. You must have psychic powers..."

He checks out the ledger. "Paicho, you're very good with languages. Can you make this out?"

Once he and his companions have checked everything out, Flyn will help gather all the stuff so they can report and bring it back to the Society. Then, he'll help free the folk they find in the cages and make sure they get the attention they need...

Take 10 on Linguistics for 25

Paicho casts detect magic on the rat statue My word this aura is strong.

Gamin speaks up from his sheath, Let me get a look at it. Paicho draws his blade before commenting It's absolutely magical, but I have no knowledge of this item, I can't even comprehend it. Although I can say it's extremely strong transmutation magic.

Are you sure you've never read about? The intelligent sword asks.

No, I don't think so. Paicho replies. Now let's get a look at this ledger. He looks through the book and puzzles over it for a while.

Ah, I see, what a funny tongue these Derro's use. I think this is the language the little blue guys were speaking to us. The sounds they use are so strange. Never mind that, I think I get the jist of it.

He pauses looking at the writing a while longer, before going on.

Yes, I see, this is the ledger for sales of slaves, lots of tallying, very lucrative. But it's interesting, business is booming over the last couple months, a real surge. Not good. Oh, and a human woman escaped not long ago. Yes these mites are also slaves, one was beaten to death for allowing the escape to happen.

If the mite's can reading and write, I might be able to get some basic information from them? Now that I've gotten a look at this.

It is good we took this mission. Even beyond recovering this magical artifact, we have freed all these people. We must continue to pursue this. These derro cannot be allowed to enslave people like this. I am worried what ends the derro might be pursuing with the ill-gotten profits from their slave trade...

With that, Kramac will set about freeing the slaves. He'll hand out whatever rations he has on hand, as well as using create water to create water them.

"Kiboko is glad that the mites were spared. Thank you Flyn, for reminding Kiboko that not all who fight do so willingly. As for Kiboko's psychic powers - this hat holds powerful magic." Kiboko deadpans again.

"Kiboko agrees, there is more to this. These Derro were likely only merchants, not leaders. They are a threat to all. Kiboko will gladly track them down and destroy them."

Kiboko aids in the freeing of the slaves, including the mites. Like Kramac, he provides conjured water. He provides basic first aid (take 10 on heal check for 16).

Your actions today have made a significant impact on the livelihood and safety of the city. Kidnappings slow in the city, not completely diminished unfortunately. However as the Pathfinders establish ground in the immediate city, there is news that kidnappings continue to expand in the countryside around Cassomir. Rumors begin to circulate throughout the city that the derro menace has been stopped, likely thanks to the ongoing efforts by the pathfinders, but some whisper darker tidings, such as the recent spotting of a derro inside the walls of Swift Prison, a rumor the Taldan authorities heatedly deny.

What awaits the adventurers next? Tune in....

I'll try to get chronicles out by tomorrow. Anyone need some break time? If not I'll get us started on Monday.
