Please do introduce and describe your character in your first post :)

You find a letter address to you waiting on the Lodge's table.

Pathfinders,

As the seasons change and the fickle winds alter their course to bring rain to a parched land, so too do the Ten once again turn their eyes toward Qadira and its riches. Sadly, the circumstances are tragic, not celebratory. Trade Princess Zarmina Bahjari, mentor and aunt-by-marriage to the esteemed Trade Prince Aaqir al Hakam, passed away recently, and the family is holding a wake for her at their estate in Katheer. The trade prince has asked a handful of agents to join him for this event, and I request that you do just that both as a show of solidarity for an important ally of the Society. I understand he also has other work for you that might prove quite lucrative,so as long as he does not ask for anything too bizarre, I trust you will honor his requests as you would my own.

I am away on business, but I had another agent retrieve several worthy items from my personal vault. Please take one to offer to the family in the name of the Society and me during the wake.

Be civil,
Venture-Captain Esmayl ibn Qaradi

You are to decide on a gift to bring to the wake: a silver-chased scimitar, a gold ring bearing three sapphires, or a steel shield bearing an image of Sarenrae painted in gold and studded with garnets.
Once you have decided this, you shall proceed to travel to meet Trade Prince Aaqir al'Hakam.

Patros finishes reading the letter and folds it up and tucks it into a pocket in shirt. He is wearing an outfit of the latest fashion in Taldor. He carries a wicked blade with finely engraved symbols on it. The tassels are made from the colours of Taldor. He looks about and strokes his neatly groomed goatee.

Anyone have an idea about which gift to give? I know scimitars are popular in Qadira, and is the symbol on the flag. Maybe it's just me, but that might be the way to go...any thoughts, friends?

Laiashi stands with her hands behind her back, arching her back slightly to accentuate her figure. Her bright orange hair is pulled into a braid, and she wears a long-sleeved green dress, form-fitting to show off her contours, with a pair of high black boots not un-stylish but clearly made for comfort over appearance. Always best to make a good first impression. "I do love a good high-class party. Shame it's for a dead woman, though."

Eraith skims through the letter, then carelessly tosses it back unto the Lodge's table. He appears to be an unkempt looking half-elf with messy brown hair, clad in studded leather and a slim blade by his side. One can't help but notice that his armor and weapons look well cared for, unlike the rest of him.

He seems gloomy, and upon realising the diplomatic nature of the mission, bored as well. Eraith barely spares a glance at the arrayed items "It matters not which we choose. The blade I suppose."

Think we've waiting long enough! Going to start the game then, with sword as the choice of the people. Cahrna and Zhang Ziyi, please post when you are ready.

The journey to the Bahjari estate was a peaceful one, there you are greeted by some servants you immediate to your needs and direct you to the study where Trade Prince Aaqir al'Hakam awaits.

Dressed in a white linen robe tied with a silk sash, Trade Prince Aaqir al’Hakam stands behind a desk in this small study. He spreads his arms wide in welcome, though his face speaks to his fatigue and grief. “You are a welcome sight, Pathfinders, and I trust you are here at the behest of the esteemed Esmayl ibn Qaradi. As you can tell, this is not a day to uncover fresh secrets. Rather, it is one of mourning for Zarmina Bahjari—a noble trade princess, my mentor, and the reason I ever became a trade prince. I am here to see to her estate, act as executor of her will, and carry on her commercial interests.

“It may seem strange to engage in business during so somber an occasion, but trade happens quickly in Qadira; my late aunt by marriage would actually be disappointed were I not to wrangle her vulture-like competitors into submission. Even so, it would be unseemly for a member of Zarmina’s family to conduct business at her wake.

“Though I have inherited much from my mentor, I do not intend to sit idly and live off her successes. It is still my intention to strengthen trade routes with throughout the Inner Sea while making the Pathfinder Society my chief ally. I want you to stand as an example of what we have to gain by continuing to work with the western nations.

“For that reason, I requested the Society’s aid because we have only a brief window of opportunity to speak with our rivals and convince them instead to become our allies. There are five in particular that I would benefit from your attention, and I understand several of them maintain their own rivalries with one another. Win over as many as you can, and I shall speak with them afterward to negotiate any details. Is that agreeable?”

He will answer any questions you have at this point.

The Trade Prince, turns to Patros and replies in a calmful manner, "I will have a servant of mine escort you and point out these people for you, certainly getting all five may be a daunting task, but it would please me if we could possibly have three new trade partners in the near future"

"Well that might depend on how we play it," Laiashi says to her allies, thrilled by the unexpected intrigue of their mission. "If they have rivalries with each other, that makes things trickier but not impossible. We don't have to tell them that we're allying with the others-- just speak to each individually and we might be able to pull this off." She gives Patros a wink. "Up for a challenge?"

Bones click and clatter softly whenever the half-orc woman moves her head. They dangle from her clothing, comprise her jewelry, and are woven into her hair. Bones of all types of creatures can be seen. The care with which they have been placed is also evident. Perhaps because of the pleasant sound that accompanies her, or some other quality in her person, you find it hard to look away from her.

Charna says, "Yes playing them against each other sounds like a wise path. Trade Prince, can you give us any more information about the rivalry between Temel and Metella, or can you tell us about any of the other 3 and their own rivalries?"

Liberty's Edge

OR || OR2|| HJC||Glass River Rescue

You follow the servant down the grand stairs, at this time the Prince still accompanies you to answer any lingering questions you have. As you make your way down the stairs Ali points out each of the honorary guest to you.

“Temel Passad is a prophet of Kalistrade, an adherent to a strict set of personal codes that supposedly aid in one’s earning wealth. He is a clever man that the Society has dealt with before—typically under pleasant circumstances. His business ventures sometimes compete with those of the Five Kings Mountains, which has led to a rivalry with Metella Rauger."

“Doritannia Raffella buys and sells alcohol and spirits. She comes from a common household yet elevated her status through her own acumen and hard work, though she recently fell on hard times. No doubt her experience would be a valuable asset to any business venture.”
“Metella Rauger represents several trading houses from the Five Kings Mountains, and she has worked with the Society and its allies before. She’s stubborn but fair. No doubt she will be on edge here thanks to Temel Passad’s having decided to attend and honor Zarmina’s memory.”

“Pellius Melkior is from Andoran and has established himself as a reliable trader of durable goods in his country. Rumor has it that he has also looked into expanding his business into the River Kingdoms and Taldor.”

“Jakti al’Awar has spent much time abroad and only recently returned to Qadira. He maintains a small business in magic items, and some speculate that his travels and business are primarily for scholarly purposes. What is known is mostly speculation; he is something of an unknown here.”

Here's where it get's tricky folks! When you are ready, you shall mingle with these guest in order to gain influence. There are specific rules on how to gain influence.

Influence Rules:

Each of you may choose one character to influence, you may choose to focus on a few or spread out. The thing is that each of you will only have two opportunities to influence them (two skill checks). The first skill check must be either a bluff or a diplomacy, (don't aid another, If you did not meet the minimum DC and rolled the same skill towards the same NPC, I will assume you aided each other. The second skill roll shall be one that is unique to the NPC encounter.

You need not expend your checks immediately when you meet them, the characters may ask for favors, if they do, completing the favour will grant you a +5 bonus on the influence checks. So it'd be beneficial to find the favour first, if any.

Make sure when you do the roll the checks your conversation makes sense! As you are trying to win over their trust for the Society and the Trade Prince. Happy mingling!

Just a little help, unless you are rolling high numbers, you alone might not earn enough influence with one NPC to make him friendly, it is good to spilt up in some sense as there are different dynamics to the NPCS that will affect the influence, but if everyone chooses someone different you may not be successful in influencing anybody. I did miss Patros last post! My bad. Once you pick your NPC you can't attend to another NPC to help influence checks, but if two PCs are on one NPC it will be considered auto aid. The scenario is designed so that it's not realistic to influence all the NPCs. But you are free to help your fellow pathfinders complete their favours. And you guys are doing extremely well with this anyway!

***Patros***
The conversation Pellius goes very well, as Pellius ask more and more regarding Taldor, he is receptive of your information and thanks you. He makes note of this, and is most certainly now one of your allies. If you had doubts, you don't believe anyone can influence any further.

***Laiashi***
Impressed with your observations, he replies"So, it would seem that you have a very good keen eye, surely the I can put my past with the pathfinder society, if everyone is as smart as you, in would be in my best interest to ally with the society."

Just to keep it in check, Kuey, Zhang Ziyi have still to choose a NPC. Everyone else has completed their influence actions. Kuey says he will be able to check in by tomorrow, and hopefully Zhang Ziyi too, else i'll bot them to move us to the next part! Pellius and Temel are friendly towards the pathfinders, so the remainder should focus on the not yet friendly traders.

Dear all, sorry for reporting late. Previous game ended late, and yesterday work was crazy. I'm all in now! :)

Kai steps in the room as discreetly as he can, and immediately starts mingling around the party, as if he had been there all along. Kai stands of typical height of most Tian-Shus, with typical dark brown eyes, and silky black hair that he cuts short and leaves largely ungroomed. What differentiates him though is his build - while most Tians are lean and lithe, Kai is well-built and muscular, clearly visible through the chain shirt he is wearing, over which is draped a simple scholar's robe.

He scans the room as he does so, looking for the descriptions of the half-orc woman (with some fetish for bones?), a half-elven assassin (!!!), an ifrit poison master (!!!), a human dandy (whew, sounds innocent enough) and a human bard.) It doesn't take him long to find the eclectic group.

He drifts over to each of them in turn and whispers to them. "Apologies for being late. Venture-Captain Esmayl directed me to on this misssion but my ship from Diobel was delayed. My name is Kai." He listens attentively to the brief updates from his party, and steps back, soaking in the interactions in the party, before making his move. Seeing Jakti uninterested in the Pathfinders, Kai drifts towards him and Charna. Before he does so, he pulls out an extract from his bandolier and quaffs it discreetly.

drinks extract of heightened awareness, +2 to knowledge checks and perception

He approaches Jakti whilst Charna is off looking for the servants. "Greetings, Master Jakti. Let me introduce myself. My name is Kai, from the great city of Absalom, humble servant of the Dawnflower. I could not help but overhear that you hold interests in items of religious import? Although I decided to choose a different line, my parents are rather successful merchants. In fact, that was what led them to migrant over from Goka before I was born. If you are keen, I could link you up with them, as they have a bustling trade in religious artifacts. Beyond the simple devotional items and blessed holy symbols, I've seen some rarer goods in their collections. A shard of metal supposedly from Shizuru's own katana!

In his conversation Kai does not notice anything untoward about Jakti's demeanour.

Good job everyone! I'm going to move us on cause you've max out the influence game. There's nothing more you can do to improve your situation.

Lin Kai, late to the party, makes a unnoticed but very impactful entrance. His conversation with Jakti, impresses him with his knowledge of Shiruzu, Sanrarae, and the likes.

And immediately after the conversation, the cleric Umut emerges from the temple and gathers everyone's attention to honor the deceased. With that, Aaqir al’Hakam and several other members of the Bahjari household carry a wooden bier bearing the shrouded body of Zarmina through the front door, up the stairs, and into the temple, where the guests file in afterward. Aaqir al’Hakam and the others lay the bier atop the altar of Sarenrae, and then join the other guests in the pews.

The ceremony opens by Umut recognizing the goddess to whom the temple is consecrated as a sign of respect before transitioning to an invocation to “our lady of eternity, who shepherds the deceased to an everlasting afterlife.” She continues with the funerary rites and performs them.

Knowledge Religion DC23:

Umut as a cleric of Pharasma, seems to be performing the rite clumsily, less polished that what you would expect of a priestess of her stature.

And so, comes the time for the guest to honor the deceased with kind words and gifts, the traders do so and they also mention some respect and recognition for their own friends. Doritannia speaks highly of Zarmina with citing Temel as a similar upstanding member of the merchant community, where as Pellius likens the memory of Zarmina to finely crafted dwarven heritage, as of Metella. The Pathfinder's follow the example of the merchants, and take some small speech lead by Nergi.

The speeches conclude as the sun approaches the horizon, its red light illuminating the room in crimson hues. Post the speech, Jakti al'Awar proposes everyone to raise and toast the guest of honor the trade prince. Suddenly, the body of Zarmina rises, everyone is in shock and dismay, she clearly still looks dead! The mummy starts to attack the guest, as she does, she points towards the door in the same direction as Jakti, Metella, Temel and Aaqir. "You have failed me! Betrayer!" Aaqir looks in horror, as he turns to the Pathfinders for help!

Combat map will be up shortly!

Wielding his longspear, Kai moves to the front, but stops about 15 feet away from the mummy. "Let it come to us!" He readies his spear, readies to stab into the creature once it comes into range. (10 ft)

After impressing Metella, Eraith excuses himself and retreats to a corner. Almost immediately, his demeanor reverts back to his moody self as he slouches agaisnt the wall, quietly munching on his plate of snacks as he watches the proceedings with a scowl on his face.

It is only when the body of Zarmina rises and Aaqir turns to the Pathfinders for help that Eraith perks up. In a smooth motion, he straightens and palms a couple of darts into his hands. He moves forward, standing behind Lin Kai and throws a dart at the mummified Zarmina.

Patros, is that a ready action to parry? I wasn't aware that was possible.

The pathfinders move into position as soon as the threat emerges. Eraith and Lin Kai's early strike doesn't land a blow on the surprisingly old agile mummy.
