"Most folk who come here are not peers, sorry to say," Says a tall, dark, and handsome man in the doorway. His eyes look almost like freshly-minted gold coins, and stand out starkly against his marble-grey skin and impeccably-kept mane of white hair. How such a formidable-looking man, in fine armor no less, managed to appear without so much as a sound is anybody's guess.

"I am Viscount Mercutio, of Ustalav's House Menschjaeger," He introduces himself as he takes Thaia's hand in a chilly grip and kisses it; "Enchante."

"BAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAA!!! Sorry, I...don't know how else to react to that. But really, I've got a copy of Orlock's Peerage right here," Mercutio takes out a big, luxuriously-bound, immaculately-kept book, flips to somewhere in the middle with practiced ease, and thrusts it under Slade's nose. Slade sees a page with the House Menschjaeger coat of arms, motto - which is, indeed, 'Qui Non Saltastis Lamentavimus Et Non Dare Gladium' - as well as...several other tidbits of information about the family which catch his eye....

DC 13 Will save:
If this were Call of Cthulhu, you'd have taken a small amount of SAN damage from reading some of that.

A week ago, a letter was delivered to your very doorstep, or to you in person for those who have no homes and rely on the Society to continuously keep you housed and paid.

Sheila Heidmarch's Letter wrote:

Greetings,

Once again we find ourselves at the forefront of a great discovery involving Thassilon. Please meet up with your fellow agents in the Publican House in Riddleport. It is a popular tavern and a temple to Cayden Cailean. Once you’ve gathered together, proceed to the Shoanti camp location marked in the map I’ve given you, south of the Calphiak Mountains near the shores of the Varisian Gulf. There you will meet with the Shoanti leader Tide Watcher. She contacted me for help after her discovery of a Thassilonian ruin near their homes.

I trust you understand how rare it is for the Shoanti to reach out for help, and how vital this makes your mission. Continued friendly relationships with the Shoanti are a high priority for the Society, as is learning whatever you can about this ruin and its original purpose. A word of caution, though—I know little about what you may face ahead. If the mission proves too dangerous, do not let your pride as new agents stand in the way of common sense.

I’ve enclosed money to pay for your passage and provisions along the journey. Try not to spend it all in one place.

Sincerely, Sheila Heidmarch

You may have heard of Sheila, the once but retired Venture Captain in Varisia. An expert in Thassilonian lore and always looking for new opportunities in discovery of Thassilonian Artifact. It's unclear to you why she decided you are the best fit for this job. But a job's a job nonetheless, and you find yourselves gathered at the popular tavern in the pirate ridden city of Riddleport. It's a simple wooden tavern, with the likes of pirates, rogues, thieves, and general scummy people. Loud chatter, general drunkard behaviour, and a few fights occur while you attempt to group yourself for the adventure. The barmaid is currently searching for the map that Sheila is supposed to provide to you.

This will be the only introduction I post until we officially start in August 25th. This should at least give you some idea of the adventure ahead of us! Feel free to continue to peruse the gameplay thread for in character discussion, possible combat tactics, strengths weaknesses, or even switching characters if need be.

They looked dressed in fine clothes or the type one associates with certain unsavory profession but all this goes over his head. Short as he is.

He himself would have destroyed all but the strongest wills of the city's tailors or those interested in fashion.
A garland of flowers adorns his head, they semmed fresh and gives off a pleasant scent but his robes are two sizes too big, purple should not be of that shade. Sandals of bright orange from who knows where those monstrous things were sold or bought from. His hair is well straight....thankfully and the glasses perched on his nose might very well be weapons given how large they are. One would wonder how he keeps it on.

"Greetings Fine fellows!" waving a sheet of letter in his hands cheerfully. "We're together on this new project now are we not? And those fine fellows outsde seemed to be having a dicussion on the merits of leverage!" looking outside you see what can be best described as a mini drunken brawl taking place with each of the particpants attempting to throw each other out...........

But the one thing that is even more noticeable is the little clockwork dragon on her shoulder, laquered in the same colour as her eyes.
In battle he wears a simple lamellar leather armor with buckles styled after gearwheels. Her earrings, her sash and the ribbons of her explorer´s outfit are the same crystal blue as her eyes.

As it has been a couple hours into the 25th Aug where I am, we're off!

The barmaid eventually, after some painful waiting, delivers the map. The map essentially ask you to exit the back door of the bar into the pier of the sea cave right behind it.

The sound of crashing waves and seabirds mixes with the smell and cool spray of saltwater at the entrance of a wide, low sea cave open to the Varisian Gulf. A bustling community is hard at work in the dim morning light: tall, tattooed men and women clean and fillet fish, while others toss crustaceans into pots; a group of older children sit in a circle on the sand near the water’s edge and repair nets and harpoons; nearby, several women are busily patching holes in a small boat.

“This is not a sight very many outsiders ever see, Pathfinders,” says a tall, muscular woman. Her head is shaved and tattoos line her shoulders, arms, and neck. “But we are pleased you have come. Kel-grish! Welcome! Let us walk.”

“I am Tide Watcher, the jothka of this tribe,” she says, as she leads the way onto a small path heading up the hill above the cave. “As you probably know, the Shoanti do not often call upon outsiders for help. But this is a special circumstance.” She stops atop the hill and takes a deep breath of the wind blowing off the water before turning to the hills and mountains to the north.

“Two weeks ago I stood watch on this spot, minding both the water and the land. Suddenly a plume of flame rose into the air in the hills there.” She points slightly northwest. “I took a group of warriors to investigate. When traveling down familiar caverns, we soon found a place where the floor had recently collapsed into another series of tunnels that had smooth, worked walls. Then we found the stone door. It flickered with flame and was deeply carved with the runes we know to be the language of Thassilon.” She pauses, a sour look on her face. “It is forbidden to explore places marked with these runes, so I thought it best to simply try to collapse the cave entrance and be done. But then I saw the door was open. Something had either gotten in or gone out."

“I sent word to our allies in Magnimar of what we’d found. I contacted Sheila Heidmarch specifically because I have heard that under her direction, the Pathfinders have made fair dealings with the Shoanti, laid the spirit of an ancient symbol of peace to rest, and stopped a Runelord from rising once again. "

“Five days ago, a priest named Julian arrived from Magnimar and claimed he could seal the door. He worships a good god of monuments, he said, and was confident he could succeed. I have not seen him since, however, so I do not know what has happened.”

Tide Watcher turns to the group. “Pathfinders, I want you to learn the nature of this place beyond the door and determine if it is a threat to my tribe. If it is within your ability to eliminate it, do so. If not, we will discuss closing off the cave entrance permanently. Do you have any questions?”

Things you may know about Thassilon or the Shoanti people, you may attempt to make all checks listed. If you exceed the DC you recall all information at lower DCs as well.

Kn. Arcana or History DC15:
Thassilon was an empire that ended some 10,000 years ago in what is now Varisia. The seven-pointed star, called the Sihedron, is a commonly seen motif in Thassilonian art.

Kn. Arcana or History DC20:
There were seven realms in Thassilon, each controlled by a powerful practitioner of magic called a runelord. Each treated his or her own realm as a kingdom onto itself. This area of Varisia was likely in the kingdom known as Bakrakhan, domain of wrath, ruled by Runelord Alaznist. Runelord Krune recently attempted to rise again, but the Pathfinder Society stymied his efforts.

Kn. Arcana or History DC25:
Each Runelord was associated with a sin and tied to a school of magic: envy to abjuration, gluttony to necromancy, greed to transmutation, lust to enchantment, pride to illusion, sloth to conjuration, and wrath to evocation. Thassilon came to an end in the great cataclysm known as Earthfall, but it is suspected the Runelords all had preparations in place that would allow them to survive, perhaps even until the present day.

Diplomacy or Kn. Local DC10:
The Shoanti are mostly a nomadic people who lived in Varisia long before other human groups. They are distrustful of outsiders.

Diplomacy or Kn. Local DC15:
Many Shoanti men and women feel that long hair is a dangerous liability in battle and thus shave their heads. They also have tattoos over much of their bodies.

Diplomacy or Kn. Local DC20:
There are seven quahs, or clans, each of which has numerous tribes as constituent parts. Each is led by a tribal leader called a jothka.

Diplomacy or Kn. Local DC25:
Historians are suspicious of the fact that there are seven quahs of Shoanti, seven realms of Thassilon, and seven points on the Sihedron. Some speculate that the Shoanti were either servants or slaves of the Runelords in ancient times, and their taboo against exploring Thassilonian ruins comes from that relationship.

"While I appreciate your trainer's sentiments I would suggest not shouting like a tone-deaf harpy, dear." Thaia says to Frostwind before turning back to the Shoanti. "I am sure we are all robust enough to carry our own packs, but should we need to carry additional caving, or rescue gear to the site, or need to bring things back with us--such as possible injured, help would be appreciated--and compensated for of course."

"Tide Watcher, what sort of game do you see in these parts?"

She also asks Tide Watcher about the parts of the site that the locals know about to judge whether or not they need more climbing gear.

Tide Watcher looks a little bit confused, "Game? Do you mean as a hobby? We play traditional games called Cross and Nought's, or seek and hide. Have you heard of it?" It dons upon her momentarily latter, that game could mean the hunt, and her facial expression changes for the unpleasant. "We hunt only for survival, and we rely on the abundance gift of the sea. Fishes. Outside of that, I do not know of any games in this parts as I do not partake in it."

She explains while that you may have to travel a little through a series of caverns, that the journey takes place mostly on flat land.

"Are you ready to make a journey?"

Huffing and puffing, a sweaty dashing young hireling comes up to Thaia seemingly carrying some of her belongings. "My lady.. I apologise, I got lost."

Tide Watcher looks precariously and ask. "Who might this be? Not that it matters, but here is the map, it outlines the general path you need to take to travel to the site. You shall travel through the fallen rock caves. It is called that because it is a cave made from fallen rock." And she points you off to one of the vast network of caves that connect to this port. The map shows a series of lines that are supposed to be the network of the fallen rock cave, and a specific line is highlighted.

Approaching the cave, it's clear to see that it is not normally traversed. The rocks are sharp and jagged, with no smooth walkways. The cave has no illumination, making it impossible for those without darkvision to make it through. The cave network is narrow, winding, and generally cramped. Passages are typically no wider than 5 feet, and ceilings range between 3 and 8 feet.

Those without darkvision, please make sure you highlight your light source.

First Survival check

Survival DC 14:
You discern human footsteps, likely those of the priest mentioned. It generally follows the map laid out for you.

After several hundred feet of twisting, turning, and often cramped passageways, the caverns here begin to widen somewhat. Broken arrows and short, makeshift swords litter the ground, and a rotting corpse lies slumped in a corner. Blood, now dried, is splattered on many of the rocks nearby. The passage continues to the east.

Second Survival check

Survival DC 12:
There are several dozen unique goblin tracks in this area, a sign of battle included.

Survival DC 17:
From the footsteps you are able to discern the goblin tracks likely belonged to two different goblin groups. The larger group fled back to the west while the rest continued east.

The slain corpse if you intent to investigate.:

The corpse belongs to a slain Goblin, it looks bloodied and somewhat charred?

Heal check DC15 to open next spoiler.

Spoiler:
This goblin died roughly 2 weeks ago to a combination of stab wounds and burns.

Jadger is not proficent at all and it is fortunate for the party that they do not have to rely on the excited gnome for directions as he bustles about, examining every sight as if like a child seeing new things of interest..

What do the rest of you think?" his glasses perch precariously on his nose and often at times threaten to go flying with every excited shake of his head.

Another 100 feet beyond the current site, you are able to easily discern the place where the boulder broke into the tunnel below. Entering into the tunnels below...

Dim, flickering light illuminates a natural chamber roughly 30 feet by 10 feet. Stalactites cling to the ceiling and a few stalagmites rise from the floor. The air is damp and clammy. At the eastern end of the room stands a 10-foot-wide double door set into the wall. Flames flicker about the columns and lintel, casting the spiky, spidery runes covering the surfaces into sharp relief. The doors are partially open.

A man stands by the door, looking exhausted, and seems to be just waiting there. His description matches those of Julian, and it is likely safe to presume that this is he.

On the door, there is a sign written in a foreign language.

Thassilonian or Linguistics DC25:

It'd be kn. history for you to know anything substantial, so Jadger is at a lost of who this Bakrakhan is!

As you approach the man, it becomes extremely clear that this is Julian the tide watcher speaks off. Julian looks to be somewhat experience, wearing typical clerical clothing, and has lushious blond hair. His eyes seem to have extremely large eyebags, indicating maybe a lack of sleep. Julian doesn't stand up to greet you, and greets you in a very tired, and somewhat dismayed tone. "Greetings, I'm but a traveller, a cleric that serves Soralyon. Who might you be? And what brings you here?" You sense a possible fear in his voice.

Planchet follows behind most of the time, doing his absolute best to keep up, and often serving the group tit bits and drinks.
