GM Bali's Reign of Winter (Inactive)

Game Master Bali

A strange and unnatural cold has fallen in Southern Taldor. The town of Heldren calls for heroes, who will answer this call?

Even over the distance between them, Cyrus strains his ears, hoping that their more heated "conversation" will make their words easier to hear.

As you pause to listen the raised voices are easy enough to hear but not in a language you understand.

Realizing that wouldn't take any time so you still have your turn

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

GM Bali:
Do I have any sense of their emotional state from the tone in their voices?

: roll20 link :

Cyrus:
Assuming a T10 on Sense Motive : It's fairly apparent that the two groups are antagonistic to each other but it's hard to tell if it's more than just bluster. You can see that the trolls are armed but haven't drawn their weapons.

Listening intently you manage to pickup some of the conversation, currently be held in the giant tongue. "...don't much care what happened to your glass faced freak. Maybe you leave the Howlings to us you wouldn't have these problems. sneers one of the white haired men. "I've had a enough of your lip wolf! Have you seen group or not?" demands one of the trolls. "Well Sven here isn't a red head and if I'd seen a little mammoth or elk I'd have a full gut so I suppose not. You done harassing us now or we gonna get less civil?" the white man nearly growls

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Cyrus frowns to himself, unhappy with his inability to understand the language they are speaking, even if their body language and tone does betray some of their meaning.

Seeing no point in delaying the inevitable, Cyrus looks to the others and attempts to signal them with hand gestures that he is about to make his approach by pointing to himself, then to the building. He waits a few seconds longer, then strolls out, behaving as if nothing is at issue, though he does walk with purpose and intention, not looking around or letting himself get distracted. His hand remains near his falchion, just in case, though he doesn't make any move to draw it unless directly threatened.

Droguk remains where he is, keeping an eye on the trolls and Cyrus both as best he can, ready to react as quickly as he can if something goes wrong.

As Cyrus makes his way to the door the ice troll towards the back turns to look his way. For a moment he considers the ranger but soon loses interested and turns his attention back to the argument before him. One of the white haired men also takes notice, chuckles to himself and looks back to the trolls with a wry grin.

Seemingly ignored for the moment Cyrus tries the door and finds it locked.

Cyrus frowns when the knob refuses to be turned, folding his arms over his chest. This avenue thwarted, he goes around the back of the house to see if there is any other method of ingress.

: roll20 link :

Cyrus:
Circling around the back of the building you lose sight of the road the trolls currently inhabit. Along the side of the house there are a few small windows. Considering them you think you might be able to wiggle through but it would be a tight space. In the back of the building you find a second door, concealed by snow, crates and other refuse.

Any other actions for this round? At this point you no longer see Cyrus who moved out of sight.

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

GM Bali:
If I were to try and go through the window instead of the back door, what kind of check would that be?

: roll20 link :

An Escape Artist check should do the trick. So you could standard to break the glass and then Escape Artist as part of your move

Kobad whispers

whisper:

well I probably stick out like a sore thumb around here. I'll hold here, if they seem to make any aggressive action I got some extra fire to use still

: roll20 link :

Cyrus:
It's low enough to look in. Looking in the window you find it fogged with frost but clear enough to make out a simple bedroom. You notice nothing of particular interest before you catch a glimpse of movement through the doorway.

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

GM Bali:
Rethinking his plan to break the window glass to get into the house, Cyrus returns to the back door of the house, quietly checking the door to see if it is locked. If it is, he raps on the door with his fist to see if he can coax out whoever he saw moving around within.

: roll20 link :

Cyrus:
Finding the door is locked you rap on it firmly but there is no immediate response.

In the square the argument seems to finally break down when the two men make some final comments, one waving a hand dismissively, before both assume wolf form and trot off to the East.

The trolls, clearly unhappy but seeming to have no further interest in the retreating wolves, turn around and catch sight of the party.

Giant:
"You there! Stay where you are we have questions for you!"

The three then begin walking your way.

Droguk remains impassive, awaiting the trolls arrival yet preparing himself to avoid any sudden attacks.

Cyrus raps on the door again, a bit louder this time. "Mortin! If you're in there, open the blasted door! If I were with the whites, I wouldn't be knocking, I'd just call up some ogre to break the door down, wouldn't I?!" he he says, trying to moderate his volume enough that someone inside could hear him speaking but keep it low enough that hearing him outside a short range would be next to impossible.

As the trolls approach, Kobad's hands start to heat up, small waves of heat can barely be seen but those next to him can feel it.

Once the Trolls are within 35 feet of the group, Kobad tosses that heat and it erupts into an arc of fire striking the first troll then it arcs to the next closest troll.

The spunky gnome druid springs into action. Ducking and weaving around her companions while calling out words of power she finally finds a clear path and finishes her spell. Thrusting both her hands forward she sends a flurry of icey spheres flying out over the closest two trolls.

Cyrus:

You hear a heavy bolt being pulled and the door opens a few inches. A wizened mans face wearing a pair of glasses looks around through the opening. "Who are you and where's Ringeirr?"

At the same time you clearly hear the sounds of battle being joined to the southwest. The man hears it as well and his suspicious look turns to one of fear. "What's that ruckus? I don't want any trouble!" he says and seems to be about to slam the door.

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Before the door could be slammed in his face, Cyrus forced his arm through the opening; not trying to grab the man, just making it so that if he tried to slam the door, it was just get slammed on his arm. Painful, sure, but...effective. "Dammit, you think we do?!" he hisses in a low voice. "Ringeirr's with us; we need to talk when the fightin's done! Please don't run!" he says, the urgency and concern for the others clear in his voice.

His plea made, he withdraws his arm, commanding Duneyrr to follow as he rushes out into the open to see if his friends need help, drawing his falchion while on the move.
