GM Bali's Reign of Winter (Inactive)

Game Master Bali

A strange and unnatural cold has fallen in Southern Taldor. The town of Heldren calls for heroes, who will answer this call?

Droguk looks to Natasza before turning back to Ringeirr, "Is she correct? Are we more out of place than any one else?"

: roll20 link :

"A bit. You stand as a wolf so should not be subject to too much questioning though the mirror men are loyal to the Queen first and so even Baba Yaga's old allies are not above suspicion. As for the rest the weapons will raise suspicions as will the number of us congregated. Without papers though even a simple questioning could be disastrous. Whatever we're going to do we'll need to do it quickly." he says glancing at the steadily nearing figure.

"Yes, Sigmundar once told me stories of these 'mirror men'. They are spies and assassins in the employ of the witches. As for what to do for now, at the very least we need to get out of sight. The faster we are seen, the faster our mission is in jeopardy."

Droguk nods. "Then let's move." Quickly looking for another avenue to take, he helps lead the animals in a direction away from the mirror man.

Natasza gestures for Tough to follow, while keeping the creature with the mirror face in the corner of her eye.

: roll20 link :

So to clarify the group is staying together and moving with the cart to try and get out of sight of the Mirror Man?

Yep. That's my take anyway.

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

same here

AC 15 (T12 FF14) || HP 27/31 || F+6, R+2, W+9; +2 vs. illusions Resist cold 2 || Spear +6 (1d6+1/×3)

Natasza feels a breeze sweep past her cheeck, and suddenly nods in agreement. She doesn't know what it was, but it feels like somewhere, somewhen, a question was asked. The urge to answer had been strong, and involuntarily her body had responded.

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, too.

: roll20 link :

The party continues on their route hoping to get out of sight before the strange man notices them. Although you make some progress the cart is slow moving and your numbers soon draw the watchers attention.

Approaching the figure sweeps it's gaze across the party and then looks towards Droguk.

Droguk:
A voice intrudes upon your thoughts, "What is your business wolf and why do you permit these slaves to carry arms?"

Droguk glances around, finding that an odd feeling before looking back at the mirror man. He attempts a response in a like manner.

Intruder:
"The warrior woman at the entrance allowed us passage. Was she wrong to do so?"

: roll20 link :

The mirror man stands perfectly still before the group save for the slight rustling of it's cloak in the breeze. You can see your party's twisted reflection in it's mirrored visage.

Droguk:
"The quality of judgment of the gate guard in this place is irrelevant." The voice in your head is inhuman with an almost mechanical twang to it but still manages to make clear the low opinion it holds of the judgment in question. "What is your business and why do you permit these slaves to carry arms?"

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

Kobad attempts to hide hi features from the mirror faced being.

he turns his back to it and he begins to produce a small ball of flame in his hand.

in a whispered voice, just give the word

Narrowing his eyes at the creature, he looks to the others a moment in silence before staring directly at Kobad. "'The word'," he simply says.

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

just to be sure, Droguk knows that means for Kobad to blast this guy with fire right?

Yep. :)

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

Kobad mumbles some arcane words summoning the fire within him and in a fluid movement he spins and a fan of fire engulfs the mirror man.

burning hands

Natasza, not quite getting the "word" reference, is slightly confused when she sees Kobad summon magic to his hands, but quickly manages to catch up.

"Attack." is all she says, waiting for Tough to defend his mistress.

Assuming we have to roll initiative, but didn't want to go all OOC talk ^^

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Yeah, I'd assume initiative, also...want to wait and see if that counts as surprise round or not before I post actions.

: roll20 link :

Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Kobads flames flash over the cloaked figure who just manages to shield himself from the worst of the heat.

Initiative:

Cyrus: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 2 = 17
Droguk: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Kobad: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Natasza: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Ringeirr: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Nadya: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 12
Natasha: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Tough: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Duneyrr: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Mirror Man: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

The Mirror man draws it's sword but makes no attack, only sweeping hit's gaze across the group again.

Party is up. I'll add a map if needed but for now assume your opponent is 10 feet from Droguk with everyone else within 30'. Keep in mind that Tough is pulling the cart if I recall correctly.

GM:

Droguk draws his greatsword as he takes a step toward the creature and swings with a big overhand chop at it.

Kobad steps back to ensure that the creature is not to close. He then forms another ball of fire in his hand and hurls it at the creature.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19

5' step back and cast snowball - converted to fire. -4 to hit for fire into melee

: roll20 link :

Droguk follows in the wake of the flames, bringing down a heavy overhand swing. The Mirror man emotionlessly side steps however and the sword bites nothing but air. With it's focus on the Kellid however it is unaware of the ball of flame that strikes it in the side, scorching it badly but leaving it unphased.

GM:

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Cyrus draws his cloak more closely around his head, hoping that the mirror man hasn't gotten a very good look at his face yet. Still, he knows that there best chance here is haste, so he moves quickly to close the distance between himself and the mirror man; even as he does, he gives Duneyrr the command to attack.

Double-move to get closer.

Duneyrr, at his master's command, easily closes the distance with all possible haste to the party's enemy, attempting to gore the strange being with his antlers.

Gore!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Gore Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Or not. Seems like being ripped to shreds by wargs or whatever they were takes a very, very long time to recover from...

: roll20 link :

Apparently. I'm sure poor Duneyrr will be mowing down foes soon enough :) Cyrus you could close with a move action if you'd like to take your standard. The Mirror man had approached to "talking" distance so he wasn't far.

AC 15 (T12 FF14) || HP 27/31 || F+6, R+2, W+9; +2 vs. illusions Resist cold 2 || Spear +6 (1d6+1/×3)

Tough tries to step up and attack as he is ordered, but the cart weighs heavyv on him. He tries to shake free, but has little success.

Do we count him as "only a standard" per round or something, or just completely out of the fight?

Natasza trusts her spear into the fray, not trying to wound the creature but attempting to distract it so that the hairy one can find a better opening.

Aid another DC10: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Despite Natasza's assistance Cyrus's blade is also deftly side-stepped.

Back near the cart Nadya tries to line up a shot through the melee.

Attack w/ PB : 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 - 4 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

The arrow comes closer but only manages to put a hole in your foe's cloak.

Scanning the area around the party Ringeirr loads and fires a sling stone.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 1 = 29
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4

Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6

The projectile strikes the mirror man precisely where it's forehead should be. Those close to the creature can see tiny cracks left in it's perfectly mirrored face.

Natasha stands near the cart but takes no part in the action other than to look on aloofly.

In response the attacks the mirror man strikes out at Droguk.

Attack1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Attack2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

The first blow cuts a line of blood across the Kellid's arm while the second narrowly misses.

GM:

You can spend a full round to release Tough from the cart if you'd like. Also please give me a perception check with your next action. Back to the party.

With the nasty wound, fury wells up quickly from within the Kellid as he puts a great deal of anger behind his next swing.

Natasza sees something special light up, and this distracts her so that she doesn't even thrust the way the bigguns have taught her.

: roll20 link :

Quite the perceptive group :). @Kobad - due to the Mirror Man's construct nature he isn't susceptible to the staggered condition. Sorry I didn't directly address it I tried to cover it in the description.

The light that Natasza is distracted by turns out to be a second Mirror Man approaching from the other end of the street. Sword in hand he moves towards the party.

As he does so Droguk and Cyrus both find their marks and inflict grievous damage on their opponent.

Nadya spins on her heels and snaps off a shot over the wagon at the new assailant.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 1 = 18

Once the new enemy is identified, Kobad moves to get a clean shot at him.

Once in range Kobad hurls another ball of flame, this time at the approaching mirror man.

He continues to approach however and strikes out at Ringeirr

Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

The older man shows that the years haven't slowed him much however and deftly side steps the blow.

In the melee on the other side of the wagon the first Mirror Man continues his attack on Droguk.
