GM Bali |
Opening the double doors you are greeted by warm, moist air and the smell of growing things. Several tables fill this room, all covered with flowering plants and decorative figurines both large and small. The room is brightly lit and you note yet another mirror mounted on the northwestern wall. Another set of doors lead south.
Droguk "Many Scars" |
Droguk's eyes narrow as he stares at the mirror across the room. "These mirrors are everywhere." He moves up to it and stares within it, actually taking a moment to look upon himself - something he's never done. For the first time in his life, he sees the many scars upon his face and reaches up to touch them. He then looks himself up and down within the mirror. "I am a large man," he says as a matter of fact before reaching to tap the mirror with his forefinger. After a few more moments, "Why are there so many mirrors?" Droguk then turns and moves to open the doors to the south, realizing they lead back to a place they've already been. "A different path. Choose, Landwarden. My path has lead us in a circle." He stares at the ranger like a statue, awaiting his choice.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Cyrus can't help but stifle a life at the observation made by Droguk regarding his scars. "You do realize that that's kinda the same as saying,'Y'know what? It's really cold up here.', right?" he asks in a jovial way.
Having been offered the lead of the party, Cyrus nods and steps forward, huffing out a breath. "Seems to me like we should press on through the next portal. We've tapped this place out." he answers, moving to the next archway nearest Kobad. "I want to see if there's a limit to how many people can go through this thing at once or if it's only limited by proximity to the portal. Let's all pile in in front of this thing before we open it. Droguk, you have the key we just found on the big woman, right? Let's see if it'll open this thing once we're all nice and friendly."
GM Bali |
As Droguk and Cyrus consider the barbarians weathered looks in the large mirror a earsplitting scream issues from within the room. The sound is a horror summoning up images of twisted, vile landscapes covered in evil made flesh.
DC 15 Will save from Droguk, Cyrus, Nadya and Natasza or nauseated for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds
?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Nadya save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Kobad, ?, Tough, Droguk, Cyrus, Nadya, Natasza
Kobad you and Tough certainly heard the scream coming from the conservatory but, due to your positions down the hall, were protected from it's effects.
As those in the conservatory try and fight off the effects of the sound they are assailed by whipping vines from the southeastern part of the room.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Woo! Yeah babeh!
Cyrus, rather than yelling, immediately moving forward to stand between Nadya and the plant creature, getting himself into a position to both assail the beast that has attacked them and protect Nadya from its attacks.
If this isn't a surprise round, Cyrus will take a swing at the thing. If the spot I indicated is already occupied, Cyrus will move to the nearest space possible where he can both protect Nadya and attack the plant thing.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
Of course I'd roll a natural one after that success. Why wouldn't I?
GM Bali |
The creature acted in the surprise round (Droguk had a shot at spotting it but it's pretty tough to see among the other plants) and now we're on the first round which kicks off with Kobad. As a side note I generally won't prompt for knowledge rolls but feel free to make them or to inquire as to what would be appropriate if you guys ever want to :)
Natasza |
DC 15 Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Nauseated
Natasza's ears start bleeding and she screams in agony, while droppingo to her knees.
"Tough! Defend me.. Defend MEEEEEEEE!" she screams, unaware how loud she is shouting.
GM Bali |
Kobad the Sorcerer |
Kobad is out in the hallway, not sure about getting any idea what the rest faced.
quickly thinking of another way to he decides to circle back around to try an outflank whatever it is they face.
double move to circle around to get into the room from the other side.
GM Bali |
At just that moment the freakishly child like plant creature shuffles forward and strikes out with a pair of tendrils. One heads for Cyrus while the other strikes at Nadya.
Attack vs Cyrus: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Nadya: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The vine catches Cyrus along his arm leaving deep gouges but the other narrowly misses Nadya.
DC 15 Fort save please Cyrus otherwise confused and fatigued
The sounds passing leaves Nadya feeling as if her soul had been dragged through a sewer of filth. Unable to stave off the feeling she begins retching violently.
Party is up
Droguk "Many Scars" |
Mandragora? HA! Totally reminds me of Harry Potter. :)
With his axe in hand, Droguk marches over and swings at the plant creature.
I literally have no idea where this creature is on the map. So I didn't move Droguk. Here's hoping Droguk can actually see it. :p
Cold Iron Greataxe w/PA: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

AC 15; Hp's 38/54
GM Bali |
As Droguk approaches one of the tendrils whips in his direction.
AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The thorns draw a deep wound and send poison coursing through the barbarians blood stream.
Same Fort save as Cyrus please
I'll resolve your attack once we sort the poison as it may effect your action. Also I put a red dot on the upper right of where the plant is.
GM Bali |
The heat of the Kellids blood burn off the poison before it can take effect. His axe lands squarely in the plants tangled mass sending foliage and ichor flying. The mandragora shrieks in pain but continues to attack.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Managing to throw off the poison of the plant creature before it can take its full effect, in his own mind thanks to his determination to keep Nadya safe from harm, Cyrus quickly steps forward next to Droguk, helping the larger man hack away at the mandragora's flesh.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
GM Bali |
Cyrus attacks but is unable to slip a blow past the flailing tendrils.
Back to Kobad. Note that the door is currently closed.
GM Bali |
Looking through the door you see the chaos of combat on the other side. Droguk and Cyrus both stand next to a small plant creature that is attempting to strike them with a pair of twisting, thorny vines.
It's a move action to open the door so you still have a standard if you'd like it as well as a 5' step available. Note that the creature is adjacent to you though the door does provide cover.
Kobad the Sorcerer |
Kobad slips in through the door while trying to get a little distance between himself and the carnivorous plant. as he takes in the situation his only instict is to burn the offending vegetation. issuing forth a fan of flames to engulf the plant as well as the are behind it.
fire damage: 3d4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 1) + 1 = 5
5' step and burning hands DC 18 reflex for half
concentration just in case: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
GM Bali |
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
The fan of flames flow over the mandragora causing some of the vegetation to shrink and shrivel. The plants tough outer husk seems to do much to protect it however.
Responding to all the attacks the plant strikes out at Cyrus and Kobad while biting at Droguk.
Vine vs Kobad: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Vine vs Cyrus: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Bite vs Droguk: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
All the damage done has clearly make the creature frantic. It's ill aimed strikes all fly wide.
Nadya continues to grip her abdomen, bracing herself against the wall. It seems she's beginning to regain control of herself.
Party
Cyrus Laskaris |
Cyrus brings his blade around for another strike, hoping to take advantage of the thing's bout of bad luck.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
Too bad you can't crit plants...
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Bali |
Actually apparently you can. Crit immunity is not listed under plant traits in PF so fire away
GM Bali |
Good to get them out of the way I guess :) Kobad you're up as Natasza is still reviewing what she ate earlier in the day.
GM Bali |
It was two rounds so that was the last one. You'll be back in action after Kobad and the critter go.
Kobad the Sorcerer |
sorry I had more yelling than I had planned and got really side tracked. also Natasza, Kobad will still always grumble when you call him that, he accepts it from Droguk, since he is...well...he Droguk, but from others it, actually does bother him a bit.
Kobad backs up some more, not wanting to feel the sting of this plant thing.
as he does so, two firey bolts fly out to strike the plant.
magic missile damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5
GM Bali |
Kobads spell hits the plant in the center of it's form and blasts plant parts in all directions. The tendrils swing and flop for a few moments more before falling still.
And out of combat, nice work...sad it never landed a confusion though :)
Droguk "Many Scars" |
Whew! Man that's a nasty plant.
As the plant ceases to move, "Well done." He nods. "Let us continue on." He moves through the others and out the north door. As he turns right, he catches sight of the door they passed earlier and opens it.
Opening the door that's like 2 squares to the right of Natasza.
Also, if anybody has a preference on which door to take(or "ice floor" for that matter) please don't hesitate to say so. I don't care which way we go honestly. I'm just going just to move things along is all.
GM Bali |
Pulling open the door you find a moderately sized room furnished with a bed, desk, dresser and storage chest. A large mirror hangs along the back wall near the windows which look down on the courtyard.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Before he follows with the rest of the group, Cyrus checks on Nadya, making sure that she is alright and recovered from the sickening screech of the mandragora. Once she's fine, he follows along with the rest of the group, helping her if necessary. He also offers her a swig of water from his waterskin to wash the taste out of her mouth.
Once they have joined the others in the next room, Cyrus will search alongside Droguk.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
GM Bali |
T10 is fine anytime you're not rushed/in peril
Looking about you find that the furniture is well made and functional without significant adornment. The room itself is in good order with no clutter laying about. The chest would seem to be the most obvious place to continue your search but you find it locked.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Cyrus huffs in frustration as he stares down at the chest, arms folded across him. "Don't suppose we have any keys that aren't one of those teleporter ice-key things, do we? Hard to keep up with everything we've been findin' in this place."
GM Bali |
Meant to post this part earlierNadya looks up at Cyrus, her complexion still pale from the plants effects. "Thank you." she says accepting the water. Taking a draw from the skin she moves the water about her mouth before turning and spitting it out. Wiping her lips she returns the skin, checks her quiver and straps and then give Cyrus a nod that she's ready to go.
She stops when she reaches Natasza and quietly inquires, "Are you ok my friend?"
Back to a few seconds in the future....
The lock opens with a satisfying click. Within the chest you find :
One unlabeled vial of liquid
Three small vials with a stylized feather inscribed in the wax stopper
A pair of silver bracers traced with figures of dragons (250gp)
A jeweled scepter (175gp)
An Agate (50gp)
Three blue quartz crystals (100gp each)
256gp
473sp
894cp
While you look through the chest Nadya takes up a position near the window. Something catches her attention and she taps Cyrus on the shoulder and points down to the courtyard. There you see a half dozen soldiers and a cloaked woman dismounting from dogsleds. The men seem quite agitated, drawing weapons and heading towards the tower doors.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Cyrus, after his typical fashion, unstoppers each of the vials in turn, dipping his pinky finger into the different containers and tasting each in turn.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
After testing the unlabeled vial, he seems to ponder it for a moment before his pupils dilate slightly and he looks back to Nadya. "Y'know, Nadya, I think yo-" he begins, then stops himself with a loud cough, cutting off mid-sentence. "I mean, uh...this, uh...this one's an elixir of truth..." he mumbles, quickly moving to the next before any questions can be asked about his previous near-slip.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
The other vial tested, he considers the flavor carefully. "Ah! Yes, I remember now! Feather Falling. That's what these are...make you light as a feather when you're falling any distance so you can fall a long distance and not be seriously harmed by it." he explains, taking one of the vials for himself and offering the other two to any of them who might want one.
When Nadya taps him on the shoulder and points out the window, he looks out and frowns. "Hey, uh...guys? We need to pick this pace up or we're gonna have company. Half-a-dozen goons and a cloaked woman that looks like she could be in charge. Probably safe to assume they know their way around this place."
Droguk "Many Scars" |
Droguk stops and looks out the window. Turning to the others, "Time to go. We will try the floor of ice." Droguk immediately heads toward said destination.
I say we try the ice floor with the red carpet. If one of Kobad's keys work, then hopefully it'll work on all of us if we're already in there. I'm guessing either him or Cyrus(I can't remember who it was that went back and forth to get Tough and company) know how it functions.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Cyrus follows willingly, a grim determination coming onto his face. "I understand the necessity of it, but I grow weary of all the killing...I mean, I know it's all been self-defense on our part, but doggone it, why do all these people have to want us dead?"
