Your choice on HP. Either as per PFS (half + 1 + Con bonus + etc) or you can roll.
As far as the mount goes are you set on a horse? And I agree we'll find a way to add it organically rather than in a flash of smoke :)
HP for the companion can go with either method.
Cyrus Laskaris |
So I've never played a Pathfinder character with an animal companion before and I'm a bit unsure of how the whole tricks thing works. Does the companion start with any tricks? If so, how many? HeroLab is just telling me there are seven tricks left to learn.
GM Bali |
If you check under the Handle Animal skill rules and the Druid rules (you're level for this is Ranger level -3) I think that will answer most of those questions. An animal can learn 3 tricks per point of Int and gets bonus tricks as an animal companion (1 at first level). All that is a long way of saying yes seven tricks.
Since we're going to work in the companion as we go it will be roleplayed/assumed you train it as you go as well. Feel free to throw them all on the sheet for now for future sake however.
If you are up for a bit of flexibility as far as type of mount and such goes I might suggest not getting too detailed just yet to give us room to work. I'm guessing you're main goal is to have a companion that can be ridden?

Barbarian: 1d12 ⇒ 12 Seriously?! You gotta be kiddin' me. A part of me thinks I might have messed up somewhere. I just don't trust it.
And I gotta say, that's one of the coolest ways I've seen a pc introduced. I was seriously thinking we were gonna have to attack her and kill her. While at the same time I was like: "I wonder where the heck this new cat suppose to come in?" :p
I just figured it would be the ol' prisoner bit.
Cyrus Laskaris |
That's right. Long-term, if we make it that far, my plan for Cyrus is to take ten levels of ranger and then go into the Mammoth Rider prestige class until the campaign is over. Also, forgot to roll for HP! My bad.
Cyrus HD: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Mount HD: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 7) = 12
No different than if I'd taken average+1, so I can deal with that.
Level-Up Summary:
Ability Point: +1 STR
HP: +9
Skills: +1 to the following: Diplomacy, Handle Animal, Know (Local), Perception, Ride, Spellcraft
Animal Companion: Effective level 1 - Link, Share Spells
Spell Levels: 1x lv.1
EDIT: Thanks for that, Javell! Post edited. Better all around, so woohoo!
Cyrus Laskaris |
Y'know what I just realized? I never made the adjustment to Cyrus' strength in HeroLab to account for the black rider's stat mod. I've been playing with a 2-points-low strength score for...heck, months. Oopsie! It's corrected now, so fixing that along with the extra +1 for level four bumps Cyrus to a 20 STR.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Was fun PMing GM Bali all my posts, though added some extra work to his plate :)

After combing through the archive of the game, I found the section where we encountered Thora's spirit. Nelosse called her by name a couple times, not to mention she said it to us at least once, so Cyrus, Droguk, and Kobad were all present at that time to hear it said.
DM Bali, I hope you don't mind my playing that out as a sudden revelation on the part of Cyrus. I thought it would be an appropriate way to work the flash of insight in since there was relative calm right now and Thora is the current subject of discussion.
Javell DeLeon |
@Cyrus: Did we do the whole switcheroo on the armor like we said we were going too?
I know we talked about it but I don't recall ever actually swapping. Where I would take your armor and you would snag the Mwk armor(at least I think it was Mwk but I don't know).
GM Bali |
Perfectly fine Cyrus. People recall things as they recall them. It makes perfect sense that discussing the task you've taken on might bring old memories to light.
As to the chain shirt I don't believe you found a masterworked set. The guard sergeants had chain shirts but just the standard variety. If you recall which fight it came from I'll be happy to double check.
Javell DeLeon |
Meanwhile on the woman you find :
Mwk Cold Iron Longsword
Mwk Lt Crossbow
Chain shirt
spiked light steel shield
dagger
small flap of leather protecting a mirror
This is it. You're right, Bali, it's not Mwk.
Never mind, Cyrus, it's not Mwk. But you can still have it if you want. :P
Basically my question is: Can I go ahead and claim one of the multitude(totally forgot about the chain shirts on all the guards) of chain shirts to wear?
Natasza |
HP > PFS Style.. I suck at rolling.
Just to demonstrate this will be lower than 5 :p: 1d8 ⇒ 4
See :P
I'm already thinking of ways to work around the Natasza <> Natasha conundrum.
I'm thinking of learning more languages: which ones would make sense guys?
Cyrus Laskaris |
When we first encountered Nadya in-game, I had honestly forgotten all about Thora. Something kept niggling me in the back of my mind about it, though, so I went back through the gameplay thread and found where we had encountered the ghost. It made sense to me that hearing her name again, and especially repeating it himself, might suddenly trigger a memory that it hadn't clicked with before.
Cyrus Laskaris |
On another note: I've changed my mind about my level 4 stat point. Rather than strength, I'm going to put it in Wisdom and get that modifier up to a +2 and open up level 4 spells in the future. Leaning more towards straight Ranger now than the PrC I was originally planning to enter.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Potion count: We're out of CMWs now and looking back through everything I think we have three CLWs left. That sound right? Not counting all the others we've found wandering through this place, of course. We have a number of others to complete our collection.

I almost put it in Str as well but I decided Con. There's just more benefits to it. Same with Wisdom. More benefits. All you get with Str is 1 more point of damage and extra carrying capacity.
@Bali: If it's cool, I'm gonna switch out my armor for a chain shirt.
@Bali: Do we update our Hp's to the new total? As well as keeping the difference of course. Or do we leave them as is for now?
GM Bali |
Feel free to make use of any equipment you've found.
Go ahead and update up to 4th. Make sure and update your quick stats as well. HP would just get the new number added to your current and total (so if you were 10/20 and you got 5 more hp you'd be at 15/25)
@Kobad you can make use of your additional spells per day and new spells. So if you had 2/5 second level spells remaining and got 1 more you'd be at 3/6 as per HP.
@Natasza Just to be fair we'll work it the same for you. Any new slots will be filled with whatever you'd like as if you memorized it this morning. Any existing slots that were used will remain used until you guys choose to rest.
Javell DeLeon |
Folks, feel free to grab anything on these dead guys. I don't think there's any real reason to list this stuff on our treasure list. It's all fairly basic anyway.
But there's a Cold Iron Longsword. And a small mirror which may prove interesting. Or it could just be a small mirror which, ultimately, is NOT interesting. There was another such mirror with a flap or a covering we found a while back which also seemed interesting. I could've sworn someone took it but I don't remember who it was. And no idea if it turned out interesting. :)
Edit: Also, if there's any of the potions you folks want, just say so. I'm only grabbing them so someone has them. I don't care who wants them. You just gotta speak up so I can mark 'em off my sheet.
Edit again: Although I will write down the Mwk stuff. And the better looking bolts. Again, you want it, speak up. No cares on my part.
GM Bali |
Common is of course...common however the major regional languages of Irrisen are Skald, Hallit and Giant.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Cyrus is completely updated as well; current HP total stands at 35/43.
That's from 14 + 9 from leveling + 12 from two potions.
One more level and I get another favored enemy! Most definitely taking humanoid (humans). I've hardly gotten any benefit from the animal FE, but it made sense for a character who is supposed to be a hunter to have that. But now that we've fought tons and tons of the two-legged sort I think I can justify FE: Human.
Javell DeLeon |
Yeah, I was reading he actually quit smoking 30 years ago. Here's the story.
It just wasn't soon enough as he himself 'tweeted'.
Javell DeLeon |
@Bali: Droguk - at last level - only had 1 round of rage left. In which he used 12 out of 13 rounds. Gaining a level in Barbarian - and adding a point to Con which put him at 18 - gave him 3 more rounds(16 total now).
Now, do I remain at 12 rounds of rage and get 3 more for leveling(which would give me 4 rounds left)? Or do I make it 15 rounds of rage out of 16? Initially I just went with the latter, but I'm unsure and I hate being unsure. This way, I can get it clarified and move on. :p
Kobad the Sorcerer |
just a reminder that I leave tomorrow for here, I don't know about how often I will be online.
Javell DeLeon |
A big boat guy, huh, Ed? You did this last year, didn't you? For some reason I feel like you did this previously. Is this your yearly getaway for vacation? Or do you take cruises fairly often? Or am I thinking of somebody else entirely? It's possible I am. I have a hard time remembering squat. :P
Kobad the Sorcerer |
GM Bali |
Looks great Kobad, have a fun time!
Droguk you can add whatever additional Rage you picked up from leveling as available (just like we did with the spells.) So you'd have 12/16 used.
Cyrus Laskaris |
Have fun Kobad!

"That could've gone better," he deadpans.
The corner of the bearded mans mouth begins to twitch followed by quick movements of his chest caused by rapid intakes of breath. Suddenly he loses all control and bursts out laughing. He doubles over griping his stomach which sends his flying form into a hard spin. End over end he goes raucous laughter filling the air until his head strikes the wall with a loud crack. His body floats slowly to the ground to lay upon the failed javelin.
And so fell the Pale Tower....
;)
Javell DeLeon |
LOL! Oh my gosh that's just greatness!
Now THAT would be the most classic ending of endings of ANY combat EVER!
It's definitely got a Galavant feel to it. :) (If you haven't seen it I recommend it. It's pretty dang funny.)
