GameMaster Armadillephant GameMaster

This is the neutral discussion thread for the campaign. Feel free to use this to start out a little roleplaying, ask me any pertinent questions, do a little smack talk on the other group, or whatever else.

Please only post here if you've been accepted into the campaign by me! Also note that there'll be discussions and gameplay threads for each individual party as well; this is for interactions, smack talk if you want, things like that. If you want to add a layer to the RP, I can give a setting for the Brotherhood-Justiciar interactions (that don't devolve into violence).

Male Halfling Paladin 1

Do we openly wear our symbols in public? Or nay?

GameMaster Armadillephant GameMaster

It can depend on place, time, and individual's preference. Some areas are more accepting of the Brotherhood or Order than others, as well as based on other situations and events. For example, Absalom is normally allowant and accepting of both groups, but if they start a war in the streets, both groups are going to be hunted or at least jailed. Likewise, if the Brotherhood assassinates an important public figure, it may be important for them to be inconspicuous.

There's also the question of the individual. A mercenary who works for the Order may not even have a symbol, let alone wear it openly. However, an inquisitor or paladin of either group might decorate his entire body and outfit with tattoos and symbols of his group. It all depends, and you can decide.

Likewise, each group has a basic outfit that most of their members wear, but members are free to wear street clothing and other outfits, and often do when not in a hideout of safe house.

I've decided that the setting for in-character interactions in this thread will be a tavern and inn in Absalom. It's not a very high-class establishment, but it's not super run-down and crappy either; it's almost a good place where people of different walks of life can meet, where the nobles and underworld crooks can sit together without danger to either party. The proprietor, Flenn Strongut, allows no weapons or violence in his establishment, period. His experience and skill make sure that anyone who breaks the rules, only breaks them once.

Have fun everybody!

Male Halfling Paladin 1

A halfling walks in with wild blonde hair and a grin on his face. He poudly wears his emblem on his chest and goes to sit at a table to enjoy a drink and a hearty meal.

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"What'll ye be havin' then, little master?" the tavernmaster asks as the halfling walks by. The man is polishing an already shiny tin tankard. With barely a glance at the small fellow, the man also says in a lower voice, "You know the rules here, I presume?" His friendly, wharf accent is gone, his tone all business. "You show any trouble, you get thrown out, and I've thrown out half-orcs and their like before. Little one like you is no trouble."

He winks then, a little disconcertingly changing his manor right back. "Ye're welcome here in the Twin Shade Tavern, little master! All're welcome under Flenn Strongut's roof."

Male Halfling Paladin 1

Flenn don't you recognize me? I've been comin here since I've been a wee one. Of course I know the rules! I'll have a stout and a hunk of bread. ;)

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"Ah yes," Flenn nods with a small smile. "Master Shatterstorm, good to see ye again. Stout an' bread, izzit? I'll have it to ye in but a moment, little master."

I'm assuming you have no secret identity here.

Male Halfling Paladin 1

Thanks! Why would I? It's the safest place next to HQ :P

Some people like to, just to cover their tracks and prevent other people from easily finding them.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

A middle aged catfolk walks in, a curious smile on and he winks at any girls who catch his eye. He moves to the bar, orders a wine and some kind of fish if he can get it, then moves to a corner table and starts playing his harmonica.

perform: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Male Halfling Paladin 1

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say we know each other probably? Daemon waves at Yix and signals him over to him. Only if my asumption is correct that is.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

oh yes, i took the born into the brotherhood trait. and i'm old, so most people probably know me

Yix notices one of his halfling brothers waving to him. He puts the harmonica away and heads over.

"Ahh how are you small one? Seems we share a similar interest today."

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Flenn nods to the catfolk, cooking the fish exactly as he likes it and pouring his favorite wine into the glass. "Yix," he mutters as he hands the meal to the Brother. "You remember the rules."

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

also i did my gear. even if you're not the DM or don't care, you should look. its...hilarious

Yix gives a little chuckle

Oh now when has little ol' me every caused trouble for ya?

Yix gives a mischievous little smile and a wink, then takes a drink and pulls out some dice

"Care for a friendly game of chance small one?"

Male Halfling Paladin 1

Daemon says, "I'm doind pretty good, enjoying a rare down time. How's the coolest Cat around?" and winks slyly

Yix gives a chuckle at that last comment

"Ha you always knew how to make me smile. Come, wager say...5gp?"

Male Halfling Paladin 1

"Ok"
And he lays the coin out
" What am I bettin on?"

Yix smiles as he accepts the bet, then shows the dice

"Both of us roll 2 die at the same time, highest combined roll wins. Simple enough, a game of chance"

He has 4 very nicely made wooden die, all looking exactly the same

Perception DC 30:
The die that Yix keeps are loaded

Male Halfling Paladin 1

"ok!"
2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10

Ya those dice cost me 50gp, they are VERY nice lol

Yix rolls and smiles as his both come up 6.

"Nice roll there, but lady luck had it in for ya today I guess"

He takes his winnings, then picks up the dice.

"Care to try your luck again?"

Sense Motive DC 22:
bluff 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Yix seems to have known he was going to win

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

Oh dangit I forgot! If you're trained in appraise you can also make a DC 30 appraise check to notice the dice. My bad

Male Halfling Paladin 1

Hilariously enough, I have none of those "Not today my friend, I do have some bills to pay after all"

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

Yix sweeps up the dice and returns them to his pocket

"Ah yes I understand, gambling is fun but best not to get carried away"

for the record, i added that gold to my wealth...:P

Uh, I hate to do this, but that's a no-go, Yix. This discussion is for OOC and IC but out of game interactions. So, nothing that happens here affects your character... even gambling. Sorry.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

haha that's fine, no worries. ill make the change. besides, with my CG alignment i'd probably end up buying em a drink or something to make up for it

The door swings suddenly open and tall man, shrouded in a voluminous black cape and hood strides in. Hello Flenn. The man surrenders his weapons, including a powerful looking bow, to the barkeep and takes a corner table by himself.
Do you have any prime rib tonight, Flenn? The man throws back his hood, revealing a young, crook-nosed face of stern demeanor, topped by ash-blond hair. And tea of course, if you don't mind.

The man looks toward the other two at their table and starts to give a friendly nod; then his eyes catch the symbol on the halfling's chest and his dark eyes grow cold.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

@Raikdar

"Well hello there stranger, can't say I've seen you around here lately. Care to come and give an old cat some chat? There's a free drink in it for you"

He motions to the seat on his left, farther away from the halfling

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Flenn nods to Raikdar. "Aye, that I'll be havin'. Ye're likin' it the usual way then, yes?" Flenn also pours him some tea, but even while seemingly occupied with his work, the tavernmaster notices the exchange of sight between Raikdar and the Brothers.

When Raikdar comes up to get his food and drink, Flenn whispers to him...

Raikdar:
"Now, you know the rules here son," Flenn says, his accent and jovial demeanor gone. "You hate those Brothers more than anyone I know, but there's no violence or unpleasantness here."

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

That might be the best picture for a tavernmaster ever

Male Halfling Paladin 1

Daemon seeing the mans response smiles in a friendly manner that has a hint of a being a smirk. And goes back to his snack. I love this place. So friendly, such wonderful people and the worlds greatest bartender."

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

Yix chuckles at Daemon

"Well at least I can agree with one of those"

He turns and gives a wink to the bartender

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Flenn sees Yix's wink, and overhears their conversation. He grins back for a moment, then returns to polishing the already shining tankard.

Thanks, Yix. I wanted to go with something other than the stereotypical broad, bearded guy in an apron. Flenn is still plenty active, both mentally and physically, and he can kick ass if required... which may well show up in gameplay on occasion.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

This is all i can imagine him saying with that picture. "Now you didn't hear this from me..." lol

Male Human Magus Level 2 AC18 T14 F14 CMD 17 | Hp 17/17 Perception +2 Arcane Pool 3/4 |Init +3

Raikdar grins a little in spite of himself. You know, old cat, I'll take you up on that offer. Raikdar moves over closer, spins the chair around backwards, and sits. The conversation at least. Ale dulls the wits, so I avoid the stuff.

[ooc]Dang I keep forgetting to change aliases. I also noticed mention of the Red Mantis. The world is probably big enough for more than one assassin cult if you did want it.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

Yix is pleased about starting a conversation, and doesn't seem to care about his distaste of alcohol.

"Excuse me flenn, could we get one tea with milk and honey (couldnt resist) and" glances at Raikdar "a water?"

While waiting for their drinks, Yix pulls out his dice

"Care to partake in a friendly game of chance? First round's for honor"

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

edit: just saw your earlier post about your tea. so no, i do not order you ANOTHER drink lol

Raikdar: I mentioned the Red Mantis in passing because I didn't want people on my back about thinking Absalom is the best place for an order of holy assassins. The Red Mantis are also holy assassins, in their own way, and have a base elsewhere.

Male Oread Martial Artist Monk/1

Grantarion strides into the establishment and removes his wrist sheaths handing them to the bartender. He sweeps back his hood revealing a stone black face that seemed to absorb the very light, deep blue sapphire eyes stare out from the black and small crystalline jade green spikes jut from the back of his head. "Flenn. A mineral water will serve my needs."

He looks around the room and clenches his fists when he sees Raikdar communing with the brotherhood. "Do you require my assistance Raikdar." He waits by the bar for his water, his eyes not leaving the brotherhood members.

GM:
Is there like a greeting that is normally said between order members :P

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"There y'ar," Flenn grins as he hands the water to Grantar. "Innit funny how ye like the rocks, eh?" Flenn shakes his head and continues to polish the tankard.

Grantar:
I don't have a special one in mind. If you think there should be, let me know any suggestions you have. In the games, the Templars' mantra is "May the Father of Understanding guide us." But I don't think that fits so well here.

Male Human Magus Level 2 AC18 T14 F14 CMD 17 | Hp 17/17 Perception +2 Arcane Pool 3/4 |Init +3

Humm. Dice. Gambling... No, I think not cat. My coin purse is skinny and honor is earned, not traded.

Just then Grantar makes his entrance.No. Just conversing with these persons. Then to Daemon: That's quite a flashy badge you wear. Do you know what it means?

Male Oread Martial Artist Monk/1

Grantar replies to Flenn not removing his eyes from the Brotherhood "Yes funny." He takes a sip of the water "Thankyou Flenn."

He moves slowly over to the table carrying his drink and takes a seat next to Raikdar. He studies the two Brotherhood members before speaking bluntly "It is a rare chance to study your kind up close." He turns to his companion "I see why you choose to seat yourself with them."

He takes another sip from his water before he suddenly begins giggling quietly to himself "Quite amusing really, normally it would be a fight to the death."

Just so you guys know I am not actually a moody guy :P the character is just a bit cold :P

Raikdar:
Do you think we should have some kind of greeting or saying :)

Like the cold, hard stone... wait... I get it!

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

Yix gives a heart laugh, that ends in a purr (get used to this lol)

"My friend, i would never trade honor. I am gambling it. Is that not what we do every day we go out on a mission? we will win honor or death, sometimes both"

Male Human Magus Level 2 AC18 T14 F14 CMD 17 | Hp 17/17 Perception +2 Arcane Pool 3/4 |Init +3

Grantar:
Yeah, that would be cool. Got something in mind?

A difference in world view then. To me, gambling is just another form of trade. You trade your coin for a roll of the dice or a hand of cards. Perhaps you gain a return, more likely you lose the investment.

Raikdar takes a sip of his tea, and goes on. When I go on a mission, there is no gamble for honor. I carry myself with honor, so honor is mine.

Life or death is a gamble, yes. But honor is not. Honor is a choice, not a gamble.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

Yix takes on a more serious tone

"Hmm an interesting notion. Let me ask the so honored ones"

Yix looks down at the ground

"Hello down there, if you can hear me, is honor worth much when you're dead?"

Then Yix becomes carefree again and laughs to let him know it's all in good fun

Male Human Magus Level 2 AC18 T14 F14 CMD 17 | Hp 17/17 Perception +2 Arcane Pool 3/4 |Init +3

Raikdar laughs mirthlessly. Ah, you jest. Yet in truth, honor may mean more to the dead than the living.
The young man blows across his tea to cool it then takes a sip.
He gestures vaguely with the cup. The dead live on in the memories of those that knew them. So, if your life was lived with honor, it is not forgotten. If you have lived in dishonor, then perhaps folk will spit if your name is mentioned.

Raikdar gives a small cynical smile. It is said that Pharasma judges the dead. If that is true, then there is good reason, indeed for the departed to care about their honor.

Liberty's Edge

Male Catfolk Bard (Street Performer) 3

Yix, never caring much for the afterlife or the gods, scoffs at the idea. However his face remains pleasant as he responds

"If Pharasma damns your soul because you once played dice, then she's a cruel goddess indeed. If you're so keen on gods, then perhaps you should think of Cayden for a change"

male Goblin Rouge (acrobat) 1

A small black cloaked figure enters the bar taking a stool and handing over his assorted weapons to the bartender producing various daggers, a short sword, a small crossbow, and some bottles of alchemists fire.

"Ahk is glad he got here early, it is already getting busy, poor Ahk would be squashed flat in crowds if he didn't have a stool to sit on."
