Bladud claps the dwarf on the shoulder in a somewhat friendly gesture. "See ya at the wedding, then, bub."

He grabs Fang's reins and follows Sir Haldern, his heavy footsteps K-THUNK-ing wide of the undead and through the eery town.

"I think this is a strange place to pick for a wedding. Then again ... it IS Alleria's wedding." He looks over at his teammates, grinning, "This is kinda like that time we walked in on that werewolf feasting festival a few months back. Well, minus the furry orgy." He pauses, thoughtful, "Then again ... it IS Alleria's wedding."

To Damien, her body language and the faint chill in the air around her suggest a ghost possessing a living body, but it’s hard to be certain.

The three stand aside; the woman's eyes gaze through you. Trotting through the town, it seems under siege. Few are on the streets, and most doors are locked and barred.

Beneath the omnipresent ash, the walls of this inn are painted red and gold. The trade sign bears the image of a sun setting between two mountains, and the words “Day’s End—Inn and Public House.”

Upon entering, you find it chaotic.

The common room is filled with a mass of people, ragged and filthy folk carrying sacks and blankets. It has the feel of a refugee camp—makeshift pallets are laid out in every corner of the room. A young man wearing a green cloak is tending to injuries; many in the crowd bear burns and contusions. A matronly woman in a green gown presses through the mob to the door. “Welcome to the Day’s End, travelers. I wish it were under better circumstances. My name is Doriana. Our resources are sorely limited, but how may I serve you?”

As they travel through the scorched city, Kenjakana has Butterscotch keep close to the middle of the group. In terms of physical prowess and size, she is the odd woman out in the group of otherwise big, bury warriors. While she is not above traveling the open these days like she used to be, ever since that Tengu ninja ambush in the Crown of the World, the Sage Sorceress is always cautious.

...Where did I get Butterscotch anyway?

Once the group arrives, Kenjakana looks over the state of the inn.

"A friend of ours, Alleria Hawkins, invited us to her wedding. From what I understand, it was supposed to be here on Sunday. Given that... volcanic eruption, is it still going to happen?" she adds to Sir Haldern's remarks.

The woman nods gratefully to Haldern. "We have just enough bandages and salves; but holy light would be well appreciated."

She turns to Kenjaka and raises a hand to her lips. "Oh... oh dear." She hesitates, looking around, then gestures you over to a corner behind a privacy sheet. She rubs her wrists nervously. "My... my son is Baydon, fiance to Alleria. The count's creatures, the bloodless, they came early today and took my soon, took his wife to be... I... I don't know where they are, but... but I worry about what they might become." She rests her head against the wall and slowly begins to weep. "Bloodless... like rest. Like our town's precious children, after they wer taken after the... the disaster."

After making sure everybidy is in range, Haldern channels.

"We're going to go rescue them and everybody else we can. But first we need information. Tell us everything you know about this disaster, the bloodless, the count, his castle, who has been taken, etc. Start at the beginning and go from there. Before you ask, the beginning is when the first strange thing happened."

Burns are soothed, gashes sealed; a single sigh of relief fills the refugee house as a moment of hope finally fills it. Many move over to thank Haldern personally.

Doriana takes a hard breath, and steadies herself. "It... it happened three weeks ago."

"The mines to the east; they were scorched, melted, burnt to dust. Survivors told of... a dragon. Enormous, ruby-scaled with a glowing heart of violet. We feared it would come for us next. The Count declared the greed, the wickedness of the priests of Abadar had drawn the creature... and that the sacrifice of two dozen virgins, fair of face and strong of body, would purge our town's taint. W-willingly and not... our town's children were taken into the temple. She takes another hard breath. "That night... the dragon came. I hid in the inn's cellar, I didn't see it, but... gods above, I could hear it, I could hear my friends' screams."

"That morning, amid the ashes, the smoke and the bodies... our children returned to us. Twenty-three of them, as you may have seen them; pale, unnatural, powerful. We call them the 'bloodless'. The Count declared that one of them was not a virgin, that more would be required... that the dragon will come again, but this time he can p-prevent it. With the blood of more children..."

"This morning... the bloodless came. They took Alleria. She tried to fight, to escape, but they captured Baydon, then her. She told me to wait for her friends to come, to tell them everything." She looks up at you pleadingly. "Can... can you help? Or... or is the Count right? That only by selling our souls and... and our children... can we all be saved?"

Damien couldn't surpress a grin. Kenjakana had yet to escape his keen eyes. He'd promised her a favor if she could, though of course there's little he wouldn't do for her anyway. He answered the previous question about the bloodless.

Bladud shrugs uncomfortably. "This ain't my usual gig. I have a trick the makes ghosts easier for weapons to hit, but not something that won't also wreck the body they're in."

He looks at Damien and Kenjakana, "What do you two know 'bout these things? Are the children dead? Or does some living part of the share the body with the ghost?" He makes sure none of the townsfolk are close enough to overhear his whisper, "It's way easier if the kids are already dead. Destroy their host ... maybe they go away."

His face hardens, "Either way, next step may be to go see this Count."

I'm guessing (and hoping) that the children vessels are dead. If they're living, then it severely complicates things.

If the children still live, though, might Undeath to Death be an option (if an expensive one)?

"Danger and death, huh?" grunts Bladud, "Hopefully for someone else."

With one last pause to make sure no one else has something to do before pushing forward, Bladud does just that ... slamming the doors open, expecting the worst.

Bladud steps forward, reaching for the door. Before he can open it, smoke pours forth from the skull, filling the small room with a black cloud filled with a shadowy skeleton with golden bangles on its wrists.

Blaudd 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

The foul smoke doesn't seem to affect Bladud at all, and he reacts by slamming Gorum's Reach into the door, trying to simply break them down.

Try to sunder the door. It's an adamantine, corrosive weapon , and I'm including power attack.
