Thanks, hiyami. Freezing cold in the mountains and we even got snow here due to a significant cold front (we don't see snow in my part of Oz). I'll be back after lunch my time today and will be posting then. :)
GM Ariarh |
Well, we're home now and it's 12 deg Celsius here - so much better than -1. ;)
Wow, Riley, you have lovely Summer weather there.

Any discussion/rp before the meeting with the baroness can be played out, in retcon, via spoilers, so as to keep it separate from the current meeting with the baroness. Thanks. :)
Connor son of Ceorl |
I will have a response up when I get home from work.
Talk to you all later tonight!
Connor son of Ceorl |
I'm sorry for your relative, Hiyami, and I hope that you are both doing alright now.
Have a good night and rest well.
Anila Vayu |
Hiyami: sorry to hear about your relative. Hope everything is better now.
Everyone: thank you all for your patience with us these past couple of weeks. We are finally moved and ready to start unpacking. Felix and Anila will make posts tonight. Just finishing up a couple of final things for the evening first.
GM Ariarh |
@Hiyumi: Glad to hear it.
Good to have you back, Anila and Felix. :) Good luck with the unpacking.

Anyone have ideas for a level build?
Meantime; though we need a front-line fighter, it is also true that Connor is able to "reboot" his class and stats if that could help (he does intend on being a front-line fighter, though).
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks :)
GM Ariarh |
@Hiyumi: We're not rolling for HP, hon. Hit points on level 2 are calculated average hit die rounded up plus CON modifier (plus favoured class bonus for those inclined to give them to hit points).
Average rounded up is as follows:
D6 is 4
D8 is 5
D10 is 6
D12 is 7.
So for Rhia, you're taking a second level of oracle, so it would be 5+1=6 hit pts before any favoured class bonuses.

I have given you my ideas for your "reboot/rebuild", Connor.
To the players: Can you please help Connor with some ideas regarding classes/archetypes? You guys will soon be level 2 and after that happens there will be no reboots/rebuilds permitted. Thanks kindly, guys!
GM Ariarh |
It's good to have you back, Riley. Hope you and your eldest son enjoyed camp.
And thanks for the heads up, hiyumi. Enjoy your MtG tomorrow night.
Does anyone have any class suggestions for Connor? I know he's having some issue with deciding on which would best fit the party and work for the campaign. I'd appreciate any feedback you can give him. Thanks in advance. :)

Thanks for the heads-up, hiyumi, and enjoy your weekend by the lake. I think I will hold off advancing the game/party to morning until your Sunday/my Monday and thus leaving time to finalise any retcon rp and giving people time to enjoy their weekend, finish their levelling and be available to post and get back into the swing of things regarding the kobold assignment.
GM Ariarh |
I'll post up responses to Anila and Connor in my morning as it's late here and I'm headed to bed.

I'm sorry again for the lack of posting. Work has been sheer f~~$ing insanity. The house has been a challenge as well as there were some things the stupid inspector missed that he should have told us about.
GM Ariarh |
Just a heads-up, I am going to move the game forward very soon (once you guys are done with the smithy) - onto the investigation of the kobolds in the old quarry.
If people are unavailable to post/play, then there are two options: 1)They remain back at the inn for the duration (easiest option) until their player returns to posting, or 2) Someone offers to bot their character until the player returns to the board.
Please let me know which of these two options suits you guys. :)
hiyami |
I'll be a bit busy over the next few days - tomorrow's MtG night! Friday I'm going to Buffalo Wild Wings with a few friends. I'm not entirely sure what my Monday and Tuesday will be looking like.
I'll do my best to check and post around lunchtime or at night when I return (though prob not tomorrow night because that'll be super late).
I should still be able to post around once a day, so I don't think it'll interrupt going forward?

Connor, I believe you do have enough if you include your six gemstones (total value 150gp).
From Witch Tower Loot: 2 platinum pieces, 103 gp, 7sp. From exchanging the lower denomination (cp, sp) at Grellans, you got 3 pp, 80gp, 7sp plus the 6 gemstones(moonstones) worth 25 gp each.
This totals: 5pp, 184gp & 4sp (plus gemstones 150gp)
You then got a further 100gp from the Baroness for your share of the 500gp.
This totals: 5pp, 284gp & 4sp (plus gemstones 150gp)
Then you have 160gp from your share of the sale of the Mithral daggers.
This totals: 5pp, 444gp & 4sp (plus gemstones 150gp)
You spent the following:
M/w Short Sword 310gp
Silver Bracelet: 10 GP
MW Gardening Tools: 40 GP
Cost for Sunrods: 3 GP
Total Cost: 363 GP
Leaving you 5pp, 81gp &4sp (plus gemstones 150gp, plus whatever coin you had remaining from your average start gold.)
5pp=50gp
50+81+150=281gp
The Shield costs 257gp.
You do have enough to cover it. (I think Connor gave a little coin (1gp?) to Jax to cover the drinks when they returned from the Witch Tower, but I can't rightly remember... Still there is enough with the moonstones tossed in.)
-------------------------------------------------------
Remember too, all, you have yet to sell the teak case (worth 50gp) and you have 2 pp in group loot to use as you choose.
GM Ariarh |
Sorry guys. I have had a crazy few weeks. I should be good in a couple days. Some unexpected obligations the past few days in particular have really kicked my tail!
Thanks for letting me/us know, Riley. Sorry about the tail-kicking. Hope this coming week proves to be better.
I'm really hoping I have everyone back in game come Monday. I will start with the kobolds then. No one has said they would bot the players unable to play, so if a player is consistently absent (with reason provided), then I will have them remain at the inn for the duration. Thanks.
As GM, I would honestly like to see the game pick up in momentum and posting otherwise I will have to reconsider the future of the game. I really would like to see 1-2 meaningful/actionable posts at least per week day/night (Monday to Friday) from all/most players as was discussed during recruitment. I understand RL has varied obligations and is first priority and I will be patient to a point (which I believe I've been rather good about thus far). But having 3 to 4 players out during a week is too much and the game cannot/does not move forward. I'm open to suggestions regarding posting and moving the game forward during high player absence. I want you all to know I have sincerely appreciated your effort and work in game since we started. However, please help me keep the game alive. Thank you, again.
hiyami |
I 100% agree that it's really difficult to keep the game moving when the majority of players are out. Heck, we could see a discernible difference with even one or two people out.
I'm really excited to keep playing, but on that same token, I'm reluctant to play out anyone else's character for multiple reasons. First, I think the only characters that Rhialtyra has really had any in-depth interactions with are Connor and Riley. She and Connor are almost entirely opposed in character, so I don't think I'd be able to do Connor justice (not that I think he'd be out for long if at all, haha!).
There are a bunch of private posts that I haven't really read so I'm not sure that I'd be able to accurately enact either personality.
:<
That said, I also don't want the game to die and believe that the best way of keeping it up and running is with activity. I hope we get some more bodies in here soon :D
Felix Bramblethorn |
Sorry for going AWOL everybody. A lot going on. Will post in am.
Connor son of Ceorl |
You do have enough to cover it. (I think Connor gave a little coin (1gp?) to Jax to cover the drinks when they returned from the Witch Tower, but I can't rightly remember... Still there is enough with the moonstones tossed in.)
Thank you for the breakdown, GM; I appreciate it!
I have adjusted my sheet accordingly, converting the Moonstones to Gold pieces for convenience sake.
As for everyone else; I'm glad you're all back and doing well!
GM Ariarh |
@hiyumi: Thank you for replying to my discussion post. I have no issue with people not feeling comfortable botting other characters in main scenarios or combat, but in times of minor social rp, I think it should be okay as it doesn't really affect an outcome. :)
The spoilered/private posts do not have to be actioned except by the players involved, so that is okay.
@Felix: Thanks for checking in and hope things get better.
@Connor: You're welcome and thanks for updating your sheet.
------------------------------------------
If the group means to go scout out the The Blood Vow lair, I will need to know what route you take to get to the flooded old quarry: Via the secret kobold tunnel you discovered in the ruined Witch Tower or via Old Quarry Road which is overgrown with weeds, brush, roots and covered in the rock debris from the earthquake.
Choice 1: Through Witch Tower Ruin: The kobold tunnel is designed for small creatures so is narrow only 4 ft wide, winding 1,200 feet to the east. To move through it, the party will have to squeeze through the tunnel.
In some cases, you may have to squeeze into or through an area that isn't as wide as the space you take up. You can squeeze through or into a space that is at least half as wide as your normal space. Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares, and while squeezed in a narrow space, you take a –4 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to AC.
A creature can squeeze past a creature while moving but it can't end its movement in an occupied square.
To squeeze through or into a space less than half your space's width, you must use the Escape Artist skill. You can't attack while using Escape Artist to squeeze through or into a narrow space, you take a –4 penalty to AC, and you lose any Dexterity bonus to AC.
Remember, too, all the traps in the Witch Tower have been reset, which means the Clockwork Servant has as well. To get past it, you need the family crest, but Connor gifted it to the Devys. I'm going to say that when Rhialtyra looked over the plaque earlier in the tower, she made a sketch or rubbing of the crest and that can be shown to the Clockwork Servant to get past without trouble.
Choice 2: Via Old Quarry Road; with its tangled plants and broken stone it is considered 'Difficult Terrain', but it can be traversed carefully/cautiously for those who would try. (There may be some climbing involved btw.)
Difficult terrain, such as heavy undergrowth, broken ground, or steep stairs, hampers movement. Each square of difficult terrain counts as 2 squares of movement. Each diagonal move into a difficult terrain square counts as 3 squares. You can't run or charge across difficult terrain.
If you occupy squares with different kinds of terrain, you can move only as fast as the most difficult terrain you occupy will allow.
Flying and incorporeal creatures are not hampered by difficult terrain.
You can either roleplay the decision: which route you will take, or, you can tell me here in discussion how you want to get there and I can begin narrating it. Please let me know.
GM Ariarh |
GM - at this time it seems that Anila, Riley and Connor are at least agreed to travel overland instead of the tunnel.
That is fine. Once Felix and Rhia post their thoughts on that idea/matter, you guys can pack up and set out for Old Quarry Road and beyond to the old quarry ... No one answered me if I should narrate it and since some people had roleplayed it out, I was leaving it to you guys to continue. Are you waiting on me for something at this point? How do you all plan to approach this reconnaissance mission? Who's taking point etc? Let me know your plans in handling the kobold mission.
Riley "Lucky" Rylin'dar |
I was waiting for the others to post before moving on.
I am guessing the guys with survival will lead until we get to the lair, then I'll take over to search for traps.
Guys? What do you think?
Connor son of Ceorl |
How do you all plan to approach this reconnaissance mission? Who's taking point etc? Let me know your plans in handling the kobold mission.
Via our mission, I am hoping that we can do the mission via narration until we get about 500 Feet away (or some approximation) of the quarry opening itself.
We should know from the townsfolk the distance of the quarry via miles.
GM: Given the penalties for overland movement coupled with Difficult Terrain, how long will it take us to arrive at the basic “entrance” to the quarry itself?
Also, what time is it when we leave?
I’m hoping to have a rough guess on what time (approximately) we’ll arrive at the place.
If it’s going to take us past nightfall until we arrive, then we may want to pack extra provisions, but I’m hoping it won’t.
Marching Order
In the wild we’ll need people who are good at Survival and Perception to watch for threats and danger. Connor has a Perception of 7 and Riley and Rhia have a Perception of 8 while Felix has only a 3 and Anila has only a 0.
I would prefer to see Riley and Connor on point (while I doubt we’ll find many traps in the forest, I seem to recall Kobolds like traps – having Riley at front for our “eyes” as well as keeping an eye out for traps could help). If we have Anila in the middle with Rhia behind her to aid in checking out threats in the rear and Felix at the end to make sure we aren’t ambushed I think we should be good.
Once we get to the general opening of the quarry we’ll probably adjust things a bit after learning more of the details.
Final requests?
If the quarry is more than 10 hours away via difficult terrain then I wouldn’t mind picking up a Healing Kit (if we don’t already have one) as well as an extra day of trail rations for everyone – just in case.
Cool!
That said – GM – if we see nothing on the trail, I’m eager to simply Fast-Forward to the quarry entrance (or about 500 feet from it to scout it out) and then make Perception Checks.
Also, if it’s very far away, I wouldn’t mind picking up a little extra food – just in case.
Finally – Connor will buy 50 feet of Rope.

I'm down like a clown, Charlie Brown :D
That said - I like that plan very much.
The only thing that may need to be considered is if we have enough supplies for ourselves in case we have to spend the night there before returning home (not sure how long the journey is through Difficult Terrain, or what time it currently is).
I'm also picking up 50 feet of rope because last time we went in a cave I was wishing I had rope - so now I do :)
Cool - that's all I got to say about that, then!
Connor son of Ceorl |
Riley - I sent you a PM!
GM Ariarh |
It will take me a little time to narrate in full and provide a map but it shall be done today. I'm currently at work, so please bear with me.
If anyone makes any quick/last minute purchases, note them on your sheet and deduct the necessary coin, please.
