character in progress...

Done.

Jessica reporting in.

Or perhaps this one. I think I prefer this one. :)

So then we currently have:
Chad playing an elf wizard (conjurer/spellbinder)
Jessica playing a half-elf hunter (archer)
Pierre playing a dwarf warpriest
Simon? playing a dwarf fighter

Chris and Mathew have yet to declare.

I think the archer needs to purchase some arrows. :)

Yeah, like anyone ever tracks regular arrows. :P

looks good so far.

I always do.. grumbles the dwarf ufnder his breath

A check of your Paizo sheets would say otherwise. ;)

Corbius Jank: arrows (20)
Kenan Forgesmasher (archer!): +1 animal-bane arrows (50)!!!, arrows (40), blunt arrows (20)
Kyras Lylras-Orlovsky: crossbow bolts (20)
Tadanu Esgalion: arrows (20), thistle arrows (10)
Taldani: arrows (20)

I eagerly await the day a PC says "Sorry guys, no can do with the bow. I only brought 20 arrows on this week long trek across the monster infested wilderness and I ran out of arrows yesterday afternoon." :D

I do not update my paizo sheets for ammo as I am not going to change herolab and the character sheet every time I update. As well the export feature seems insistent on putting my animal bane arrows at 50.

Kyras currently has 18 of 20
Taldani has 17 of 20
Kenan has 2 animal bane arrows and 71 of 80 arrows
The other 2 are currently non used characters:P

I just don't track arrows on paizo.. ;)

I know you can see my herolab characters though....:)

I live!

If everyone could make a background. I would like everyone to, if not be a native of Trunau, to live or have lived there for a while or be a very frequent visitor. If that really doesn't fit in with your character idea then you need a very good reason why you would be trusted to deal with a sensitive investigation. I do not feel that a random group of people would be selected for the task.

I want everyone to know each other to varying degrees and be on friendly terms or at least have someone else in the group in common who is quite close to the relative outsider and can vouch for them.

Please read the players guide for information on the area and inspiration for your character.

I see that Chad and Jessica share a last name. I look forward to reading your backgrounds :)

You may call me Ish...as that name was taken, I added an N.
I have some fine tuning to do and a working background, just haven't typed that part up yet.

While the beginning part of this module can be pbp I would like to have a live session for the main battle as it will be very long and the nature of it will make it likely you will forget important things if it slowly progresses online. That is far in the future though, just wanted to let you know.

We are working on our (combined) backstories.

Will Mathew be joining us soon? Perhaps give us an idea what he plans to play at least?

Not sure, I pm'd him but haven't heard.

I don't think a pm will be very effective. Email would be the minimum I would think. Pierre calling/texting him would be the best.

... hates cabbage... likes yogurt... HA! :)

I guess that leaves gnome bard for Mathew. ;)

Mathew should be up by tomorrow. I will try and flesh out backstory by the weekend. Please note I am camping from monday to friday next week.

Rwwwaaaarrrggg! Background isn't finished but I've got it laid out in my head just have to brush up on the player guide. Also I'm really sorry but for some reason I'm terrible at seeing I have mail on this.

Evil character? O_o

I see at least two others were willing to go the full party of half-orcs route. :P

Bio mostly finished.

An evil character won't fly with this ap I'm afraid. Once we get into it you will realize why. But in general I also don't want built in frictions. There will be enough friction just with people in general and I don't want to waste time with tonnes of alignment related arguments because I would expect an evil character to play it that way.

Bio finished.

If Matt can figure out a new alignment and we have all the backgrounds I think we can start soon.

3 bios done. 3 to go.

No progress on the 3 bios I see. :P

I did talk to Matt so maybe his is coming soon?

Backstory coming soon. I am bouncing between reading for his backstory and getting ROTRL up and running.

Backstory Done.

2 to go...

*clears throat*

Grunt.

We will have to see how Ugula Bloodfist plays out. I want you to think up a reason why the rest of the party would have you in their group because I can't really think of anything that would mesh with your background or the order of the cockatrice. Basically pitch to them why Ugula would be a trusted member of the group, or if not trusted, why he would be included.

BAB 0: Melee +2, Rng +2 | Fort +4 Ref +2 Will +5 | Init +2 | Perception +7 | Stealth +0 | CMB +2; CMD 14

Throwing down a couple coppers...
The main problem with Ugula's bio is the setting of Urglin. As an Orc stronghold, there is more in that city to pull Ugula in the opposite moral direction to anyone travelling to or living in Trunau. Trunau is a hold out against Orc oppression and it is a good bet that Trunau's citizen will be on the lookout for anyone hailing from Urglin. As a citizen of Urglin, Ugula can look forward to being labeled a spy if not an enemy. I suggest changing Urglin to something a little more hospitable to Trunau like Kaer Maga. You can easily keep your history as a slave in a travelling caravan, perhaps winning your freedom by saving the life of someone important? There is nothing wrong with Ugula wanting to prove himself, but he may have to develop a soft spot for those weak humans.

Is Simon going to create a bio?

Hmm I suppose I was thinking along the lines of 'the group would want him because he is a formidable warrior, easily enticed to go adventuring in order to make a name for himself'. And as to why he would want to join a group - he has a much better opportunity to slay important people/creatures when traveling with a group vs traveling alone (i.e. march up into the mountains alone and die or trek up with a group and survive and reap glory).

Initially I had written up a background where he was the offspring of a n orc and a human female slave and he escaped captivity as a young boy. I didn't like that though because then I couldn't figure out a motivation for him to want to go adventuring.

I will think about the background, motivations and change the bio.

Or maybe I will just go gnome bard :p

The problem is the first part of the adventure isn't going adventuring so I'm not sure the motivation is there. There is no 'apparent' battle in the whole first AP so no one will be looking for help based strictly on battle prowess, and it won't offer the promise of glory either. That's not to say that there won't be fighting, there definitely will be, but that is not the impetus for this first module. It is not a planned "go kill this bad guy." or let's go explore this dangerous area" type of module.

It is true that Urglin kind of makes things more difficult, it is a straight up CE city of mostly orcs, as the town of Trunau is very hostile to orcs and there is an undercurrent of hostility to half-orcs with many of the townsfolk. A relative stranger half-orc is going to be treated with great suspicion. This in itself is not insurmountable as long as there is someone very trusted in the town who is willing to vouch for you, but there has to be a reason that person would do so.

I want you to be able to play a character that you want to play but it has to make sense in the scheme of things or there will just be problems compounding all over the place.

I told Simon that we are waiting on him.

Ahh that makes total sense thanks. I'll definitely rework him.

And what was his response?

His response to this is, "Chad's not the boss of me"

He has it 'roughed out', in his head of course.

That's funny, I don't recall making a demand. I was asking IF he was going to make a bio. And I asked what his response was to your comment.

Doesn't matter to me if he makes a bio. It is your requirement as the GM.

I was just trying to get an idea as to whether this game was going to start sometime in the near future. :P

(Jessica has been asking me as well.)

Ok, I want to start on Thursday so please have your backgrounds completed/revised by then.

Please also take a look at each others backgrounds too and try to come up with a way to be fairly well acquainted with at least one (can be more) other PC. Chad and Jessica, you need one other between the two of you, can't be just each other.

BAB 0: Melee +2, Rng +2 | Fort +4 Ref +2 Will +5 | Init +2 | Perception +7 | Stealth +0 | CMB +2; CMD 14

I don't see much in other bios suggesting how long PC have been in Trunau or what they are doing there. I can infer that the dwarfs have been there all their lives(?) but I don't know. Raevon and Bronwynn sound like recent arrivals(?) but that is also just a guess. I'm a bit guilty of leaving out some of this information in Ish's bio as well so let me get the ball rolling by rambling on a bit.

Ish has lived in Trunau on and off for most of his life. He was adopted by Halgra and treats any of her many children like family. Throughout the year Ish disappears into the wilds for a few months at a time to escape the walls which surround Trunau. He scavenges the lands returning with scrap metal, which he mostly sells to Sara Morninghawk down at the Clamor, as well as other odds and ends that he offers to Crazy Jess over at That'N'Such for a reasonable price. Needless to say, Ish is not a wealth guy and everything he owns is second hand. As for where he spends his coins, a number of the usual establishments suffice: the Ramblehouse Inn, the The Killin’ Ground for the odd drink and the Barterstones for items he might need but mostly just to window shop.
Like most half-orcs living in Trunau, acceptance is all he can really ask for. To this end, Ish is fairly easy going, getting along with any race willing to call him friend.

Where does everyone else hang out? What do they do with their time? Can anyone suggest a favorite past time some of us can get in on? Hunting?

Raevon and Bronwynn are relative newcomers to Trunau. Raevon moved them into the town after finding Bronwynn living in the wild after her parents (Raevon's brother) were killed years ago. Raevon seeks to find his missing family heirloom and to teach Bronwynn the ways of 'civilization'.

Raevon and Bronnwyn are devoted to the patrols, volunteering to pull double duty whenever they can. Raevon spends his free time in research and frequenting Agrit's House of Wonders. Bronnwyn loves to hunt, with Raevon always accompanying her.

BAB 0: Melee +2, Rng +2 | Fort +4 Ref +2 Will +5 | Init +2 | Perception +7 | Stealth +0 | CMB +2; CMD 14

As Agrit's is out of Ishan's price range he will be all too happy to accompany Raevon and Bronnwyn whenever they leave Trunau to go hunting (Ok with you?)- not that he needs an excuse to leave town, but this way seems more polite.
As Bronnwyn does not need help, Ishan offers to act as another set of eyes, sherpa for any extra equipment as well as setting up and dismantling camp leaving father and daughter free to track game. He asks for nothing and expects nothing from the pair other than to have full claim to any salvage they might find. However, Ishan usually does not return to Trunau with Raevon and Bronnwyn at the end of the hunt, preferring to head off on his own until his pack is full of scraps.
