" Ahh gold. Not much but more than expected..."Tarra's eyes gleam as she gets a look at the dragon's 'hoard'.
She keeps her silence as the dwarf and human merchants vie for their 'vote'?
I've had my share of merchants. Humans are friendlier toward halflings, but I think Dwarves more trustworthy in the long run.
In an aside to Imperia when the merchants aren't around...
" I wonder Lexia, Do you believe Metella would have tried that offer on us if Passad hadn't spoken and tried first? I'm thinking that her offer was....'provoked?'" Shrugging she continues.."Anyway I'm not sure how to choose. Which would you back ?"

Both Passad and Metella seem quite taken aback by Imperia's suggestion that they are doing underhanded deals here.

"Excuse me?" Metella retorts acidly. "Funny to be lectured on honour by a human, whose people has had entire dynasties corrupted and undermined by your race's lack of honour. I suspect you would not know quality if it hit you in the face, either."

Passad folds his arms under the flowing sleeves of his white robes, equally miffed as he comments dryly, "I was also under the impression that Pathfinders were business-savvy people who knew not to look a gift horse in the mouth."

"Neither the fire-headed dwarf nor myself said you had to sign papers or commit to anything in particular," he notes further. "Just a sign of good will... bringing up my good name with your superiors, and so forth. Is this not the way of business? A client recommends a certain merchant to their fellows, and such is a clientele developed."

I should note that you could theoretically not support either, if you're so inclined that way.

crossing her arms as she listens to Tarra Imperia takes a moment to think on the offers "The fact that she had a counter offer so readily available seems to make me think she would have. As far as the offer goes while I do think dwarven quality is amazing I do not think that it is able to make up for the swordsman who wields it. Also there is the fact that they may not be able to meet the demands that the thirsting masses demand without taking additional time, a currency that we can ill afford to spend freely"

"on the other hand I once heard that quantity is a quality of its own I have to think that Passad's wears will be of a inferior quality compared to Metella's. ultimately it comes down to the question how much is our time can we afford to spare in these dark times"she finishes.

lol editing a response to the merchants

looking annoyed at Metella's remarks tempered by the fact that she was called human shrugging at Passad as he continues his business talk " I do believe that both of your names and offers will be brought up in the after mission brief regardless. of course how is up to how you conduct yourselves"

will there be any penalties for backing neither or both?

Nope, essentially picking a merchant to back influences a very minor thing (a box I check when submitting the scenario) that may or may not influence future scenarios. Also, if you were in the Qadira faction you get a boon for making a deal with one of the merchants, but alas.

Aparctias fans himself, simply watching the conversation and responding only when directly spoken to.

Yagga picks up the jewels and admires the sparkle of the light for a moment before letting them be parceled out.

He bows to Metella and thanks her for the potion. "I would be glad to present both of your offers to the Society. I am sure there are advantages to partnering with each of you." Seek balance...it would not help to have one of these two hold a grudge, he thinks.

With thoughts of alliances in the balance, the Abacus continues on sailing down the pristine waters of the Glass River. Come late afternoon, the sun paints a marvellous watercolour in streaking oranges and purples that is reflected perfectly on the surface of the river, and for a while, one could almost forget that this picturesque nation was the hotbed of a corrupt cult of personality.

Near dusk, the sailors bring out lanterns to illuminate the main deck as the captain watches the horizon through his hand-held telescope. "Aha! There it is," he calls out, calling the group's attention to a pleasant country inn sitting atop a hill on the northern side of the shoreline. A small, unmanned dock at the foot of the hillside offers a berth for the Abacus, and a dusty trail leads up from the coast to the wooden-fenced building.

Passad, Metella and Amauhak do not come up onto the main deck in fear of letting their presence be known unnecessarily. "We'll stay down here while you execute the mission," the Kalistocrat informs you matter-of-factly. "The sailors will keep the ship ready to leave as soon as you return with the dwarves. We'll wait up all night if need be."

Amauhak nods along with Passad's words. "I strongly advise you to refrain from violence on Razmiri soil if it can be helped," he says in his stony-faced manner. "Get in and out of there as quickly and quietly as possible."

Let me know how you're deciding to approach the inn, or any preparations before leaving the ship, etc.

I'm assuming this is still the same day as when we left port, so my use of Obscuring Mist isn't regained and I can't change spells. Either way, I'm filling my 1st level Open Slot with the spell Commune with Birds.

As to the matter of distribution of potions, I suggest: CMW to Ryksovich, CLW to Tarra, Elvis, and Yagga, Bear's Endurance to Elvis (or Tarra if he refuses).

Has anyone (Passad?) appraised the loot we got from the drake's hoard? Might help with bribery.

"Do we proceed with the previous plan? Imperia and the halflings into the inn with Yagga and I following behind? I can also ask birds about the dwarves, but that will cause a racket of their calls and responses, so it's best saved for an emergency."

"Let's just go."

The treasure is worth in total 744 gp, I think. It's not explicitly defined. It just says, "if they don't find this remove X amount of gold from the total". :P

So, just to be clear, Aparctias and Yagga are headed in first, followed by the rest at nightfall? I've updated the map to feature the inn, the non-tengu tokens are just to the left off the grid for now, but if I'm wrong on how you're approaching this go ahead and move the tokens as appropriate.

The hill itself isn't too bad of a climb, particularly with the well-walked trail leading up from the docks, although the less fit amongst you might be a little worn out after the trek up it. A sign above the building's wide and welcoming wooden gates reads, "Welcome to the Grey Revelation Inn", written in neat and tidy grey letters on a white board. The gate leans open invitingly, and the smell of fresh flowers wafts on the cool breeze. A stout beam lies on the ground nearby, allowing the gate to be barred if need be.

Heading through the gates reveals the source of the enchanting fragrance; the profusions of flowers planted around the lovely cobblestone courtyard are in full bloom and seem well tended. An oaken door to your left is the obvious entrance to the inn, while to your right stands the broad doors of a stable, the red paint flecked and in need of a fresh coat. A roofed well stands on the opposite end of the court, right next to a small stone-rimmed garden of herbs and root vegetables. The establishment seems cozy, if quaint; the windows are decorated with faded frilly and floral curtains, and there's a comely sort of feel to the place.

As you walk through the courtyard, the doors of the stables creak open to reveal a lanky young man with messy hair and ruddy cheeks. Sweat lingers on his brow and bare arms, and he wears a leather apron over his simple overalls. The young man gives you a wide, toothy smile and waves excitedly in greeting before gesturing emphatically at the oak doorway.

regardless when Imperia approaches the inn

secretly relived at the change of scenery and the assurance that there is hard ground beneath her feet Imperia confidently if not arrogantly walks forward in a nonthreatening way "excuse me boy I have need of your services see to it that my pack is brought in and reserve your most well kept room. Also I expect my bath warm and ready after dinner, you do have bathes yes?" she finishes clapping her hands together expectantly in hopes that the child will move faster before continuing to the courtyard taking the view in once more, frowning at the multicolored flowers "its a little too colorful" she mumbles finding the black and red flowers of Cheliax more to her tastes.

Sorry, I got it backwards! I adjusted the tokens so that Imperia and the Halflings are in the yard, and the Tengu are outside (not necessarily there, but lingering around somewhere).

The young man smiles widely again and nods a couple of times in a particularly exaggerated manner. He doesn't answer Imperia at all--in fact, he doesn't make a single sound--but points again towards the front door and gestures for you to follow him. Tarra's sudden dash past into the stables seems to briefly surprise him, but he merely grins and waves as the halfling disappears into the wooden barn.

An expansive smithy is set up in the west end of the stable to Tarra's right, one corner of it occupied by a small cot and a neat pile of clothing. A couple of horseshoes, some nails and a thick hammer sit on a work bench, though the forge's fires do not appear lit. To the east stretch a number of stalls for horses and other animals, although only three of them are currently occupied. Two of the closer pens hold riding horses, calmly chewing away at bales of hay, while the farthest stall contains an unbroken mare that snorts, winnies, and stamps its hooves restlessly.

Taking up Imperia's pack, the silent young man ambles on over to the front door and opens it up, gesturing for the group to follow him in. Inside, dark oaken tables, chairs and benches fill a comfortable, L-shaped common room, and the faint odours of tobacco and ale permeate the air. Narrow windows with panes of smoked glass and decorated with frilly, floral curtains along the north and south walls allow some light into this welcoming space.

An old, matronly woman clad in a simple brown cotton dress and white apron sits at the centremost table, her voluminous white hair piled atop her head and secured in a conservative bun. She wears a red scarf around her neck, and seems to be in the middle of knitting a simple woollen glove. She looks up as the door opens with a wry smile, placing her craftwork down before speaking. "Hello there, strangers! Now, you're unfamiliar faces 'round these parts. Are you looking for lodgings for the night?"

Imperia:
You don't notice anything suspicious in the front courtyard. You can faintly hear the sound of someone humming to themselves, as well as the wafting scent of cooking meat.

Judging by the wide-eyed expression and exaggerated mannerisms of the stable-man, as well as his apparent mute state, you feel that he might be a little simple. His toothy smiles express nothing but innocent purity and happiness, kind of like a young child excited to see fresh faces.

Tarra:
You don't notice anything immediately amiss in the stables.

"A dragon, you say? My! You must be quite the warrior, young lass," the old woman smiles at Imperia, and also over her shoulder at the pair of halflings trailing her. "Well, well, come with me, I've got just the place for you and your..." She hesitates for a moment, obviously searching for an appropriate word, "...attendants."

"Rosh, take her belongings to the big room." she says with a smile, "and then get the baths ready." The stable-boy grins again and ambles off down a nearby corridor, leaving you alone with the elderly innkeeper. She gets to her feet and smiles pleasantly, "My name is Addas Grymble, and I run this inn with my two sisters, and of course our dear, simple nephew Rosh. He's a good boy, and a hard worker, as you've seen."

"So, lass, may I ask what brings you and your... attendants to Razmiran?" Addas asks conversationally as she fetches a worn logbook from near the front door. "A long way to travel for a beautiful girl like you with just halflings for company!"

"Oh, yes, and the finest room we have here... I'm sure you'll find them quite to your liking. The sheets are made of fine silk, and you'll have the most relaxing sleep there as well. It's five gold a night for the room, although we also have another, slightly less well furnished room for three gold." Addas glances over at the halflings. "We also have some simple, single rooms for your attendants for five silver a night. Is this acceptable, lass?"

Tarra:
I'll treat you as taking 20, since nobody is going to bother you for a while and I presume you'll nose around in the stables until you're told to leave...

For the most part, the stable is tidy and well-maintained, and nice and warm as well. Nothing jumps out at you at first, but after some stubborn searching around, you locate something rather odd in the dust and straw near the stable's entrance. It's a small iron warhammer hanging from a simple black leather necklace; its clasp seems to have broken, however.

Tarra Kn. Religion: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

You recognise this as a holy symbol of Torag, god of the smith and defense, and thought of as the father of the dwarven race.

The only other thing that you find out-of-place is the untamed mare in the far stall. Watching it closely, it seems to move in odd ways... almost as if it were moving in a regular pattern. Any time you approach the stall, the horse's movement becomes more wild, pulling and bucking and whinnying loudly.

If you need to get our attention, then combat has occurred and you'll be yelling. I assumed you'd be investigating inside, and we outside will be on the lookout. And possibly investigate outside. Which reminds me, I'll get on that.

Taking care not to be seen or heard, Aparctias makes the most of the time outside and begins to search for traces of the dwarves.

Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Survival (tracking): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

I have low-light vision so dusk with its dimming light shouldn't be a problem.

Ryskovich, will smile at the stable boy, I can take my own belongings, don't worry.

He will weigh what the old lady says, and try to see if there is any hidden meaning to them.

I can take care of my own belongings as well. I wouldbe happy to sleep in the stables. Milady tends to snore, so a night away from the sounds of her nose will be welcome!

glairing at Littlegoat as he leaves "Little mouse make sure to be a good servant and not let the door hit you on your way out. It would be a terrible waste to dent a door on your stubborn head" she hisses before returning to her conversation with a smile "see what I mean good help is very hard to find" she says as she waves her hand dismissively to the Halfling.

Ill treat that as a aid to my bluff and a minor victory :P

Yagga talks over a plan with Aparctias. [b]"I figure I can start asking about dwarven blacksmiths to repair my sword, and maybe someone will mention the dwarves. For a cover story, we can say we are scholars studying the flora and fauna--you know a lot about nature, and I have my scrolls and quills. They probably think tengu are odd anyway.[/ooc]

After a few minutes he nods at Apa and indicates he is ready to enter.

I figure just long enough to make it look like we are not all together.

Also can I call you Apa or do you have another shorter form of address?

After a brief pause and an arched brow, Addas smiles at Imperia's story. "I'm not sure if you'll have much luck, lass," she laughs, "but chase your dreams while you're young!" She seems a little unsure at the banter between Elvis and Imperia, but in the end says that she's happy for him to stay in the stables if she wishes.

"Eugenia! Tarsi!" the old woman calls out after accepting Imperia's money, "We have guests! Come out and say hello!" A short while later, two other old women appear from the kitchens, the familial connection with Addas eminently clear in their shared height and eye colours.

One of the sisters, the younger of the trio, wearing a yellow scarf around her neck and a reddish apron, smiles widely and curtseys. "Hello there, dearies. I'm Eugenia, and this is Tarsi. I'm in the middle of making dinner--I hope you like stew! It's got a lot of turnips and potatos in it, as well as some fresh beef from Xer's markets. Let me know when you're hungry!"

The older of the trio grins, revealing a gap in her front teeth. She pushes a fresh-baked jam-filled pastry into Imperia's hands, crooning, "Ahh, you're so scrawny, young'un! C'mon, have one of these, you'll never get a husband if you're so skinny like this..." She laughs, almost like a crow, and pats herself lightly on the chest. "You don't wanna end up an old crone like me, do you?"

Perception DC 15:
That scarf on Eugenia seems oddly similar to the one Amauhak always wears...

After their greetings, Eugenia and Tarsi head back into the kitchen, leaving the door open should you want to inquire about dinner. Through the open door, you can see a black cauldron bubbling over an open fire, and the smell of cooking meat and veggies wafts past your noses. Tarsi seems to be slicing up fresh fruit and putting them in clear jars for canning and jams.

Addas leads Imperia and Ryskovich out of the common room down the way Rosh had left. Using a ring of keys from her waist, she opens up a fine guest room for Imperia to enjoy. Silk sheets and a thick comforter cover the large bed in the lavish chamber, and a large and tall window looks out over the countryside. Her belongings have been placed at the foot of the bed in here. Ryskovich is offered the one opposite Imperia's, a much simpler affair with a comfortable feather bed and a small table with a single wooden chair in the corner.

The mute young man reappears from the south, and through the way he came you catch a glimpse of the baths. "Ah, Rosh, good job. Let's leave these two to settle in then." She offers Imperia and Ryskovich a smile, and, barring any questions, heads off back into the common room. Rosh seems a little confused, counting the number of people he sees on one hand and then holding up four fingers on the other, but Addas seems to pay him no heed.

Ryskovich:
You can't sense anything odd about the way the old grandmothers are acting.

Tarra:
When you toss something at the horse... as you expected, the bit of tack flies right through it, and the horse seems to become a vague, shadowy outline to you.

giving a mixed look of surprise and annoyance at the elderly lady as she seems to dismiss Imperia's notions hundreds of thoughts race thru her head ranging from witty remarks to the thought that she is probably older than her but only managing to stair open mouthed at her remark snapping out of her dumbstruck state as Addas continues her tour.

shuddering as even more of the elderly trio introduce themselves Imperia smiles as Eugenia introduces herself and gladly accepts the pastry from Tarsi (making a mental note to thank the inheritor for not having to deal with the human frailty of aging) to nibble on as Abba continues the journey unknowingly trailing crumbs to her room before finishing it with one big bite thanking Addas for the hospitality and heading into her room to change into her more simple garb and heading to the baths soaking herself in the warm tub for a long period of time trying to think on the groups next move secretly hoping that nothing happens until morning so she could enjoy her exquisite room for at least one night.
