==========
PROLOGUE
==========

Early evening, 21st of Neth (mid-autumn), 4712 Age of Lost Omens
Tiboros Manor, wealthy neighborhood of Nisroch, coastal Nidal

The waning sun casts a pale light as it sets behind the roofs and down into the Arcadian Ocean: in the halls of the Tiboros Manor, the help is lighting candles while wearing metal collars with chains around their neck (as tradition for Nidalese servants), making the room even creepier.

Tiboros Manor is actually quite tame and comfortable compared to the mansions of other, more fanatic Kuthonite nobles, but it is still unnerving for outsiders: the walls are decorated with metal chains holding up oil paintings depicting recognized kuthonite saints, such as Saint Martion, bound and shackled in an expression of ecstasy as blood drips from his wounds. The gentle brush strokes violently clash with the darkness of the subject, and the black and red tapestry covering most walls and floors does not help cheering up the room.

However the Tiboros have been nothing but perfect hosts so far, making sure your mounts were taken care of and offering spicy red tea with dark bran cookies. You are all around a large mahogany table, a cup of scalding hot tea in front of each of you.
At the head of the table sits Titos Tiboros, present head of the family. He is a tall and lanky man with an emaciated face and a spotty beard: he looks older than his fortyfive years.
At his left Leona Tiboros, his wife, does her best to do the honors of the house: she invites you to sit and to try the tea. You notice she sips it even if it is clearly undrinkably hot: a small act of devotion to the Lord of Pain, one of many, judging from her appearance.
The sleeveless blouse she is wearing reveals Lady Leona’s arms, a stunning work of pain and beauty: every inch, from shoulder to wrist, is covered in ritual scarring. Not the crude cuts of the fanatics: these scars are clearly made by professional kuthonite artists, and the wavy motif rolls over and around the Lady’s arms as a beautiful, drawing thorny roses with the scar tissue.
Both Lord Titos and Lady Leona lack the left pinky finger – a common ritual amputation among noble kuthonites, symbolizing the fact that they don’t need their hands to work.

Finally is Lord Titos who talks.
Thank you all for coming. As it was explained to you, our daughter Anya married Stepan Boroi, the Baron of Karpad, about a year ago. He was from a solid family and had a good income, and he followed a most welcome path of courtship that won over our little girl.” a faint smile makes his way on Lady Leona’s face, but it quickly disappears as the husband continues “In her letters, Anya describes her husband as succumbing to paranoid and irrational behaviors from time to time, but nothing worrisome – until, two months ago, little Marek” they both sigh in hope “our grand-child we have yet to meet, was born. Anya wrote that Stepan was getting worse, then... then three weeks ago the letters stopped altogether, and now we fear for our family. Do you… do you think you can help us?” two servants lift upon the table small chest lacquered in black and red. Lord Titos opens the chest, revealing no less than five thousand golden coins “Our daughter mean everything to us – there is no price we would not pay. Can you travel to Karpad and bring us news of our daughter and her child?

Ihro:
Ihro is still unsure about this. Ok, they’re treating him well, but Nine Hells, are these people weird! If this is a good example of life outside the monastery, he might as well stayed shut inside.
That morning, when a chain-wearing servant found him practicing his forms in the birch park in Nisroch, he promised a good reward for this job… but now he’s wondering if it really is a good cause…

Taldash:
Titos and Leona seem to have aged half a decade in the last month. Even if Taldash initially took up a job for them in hope to convert the family to a more open and good-natured religion, in these months he learned that while sporting some very disturbing habits, happiness and family can be found even in a kuthonite household. He’s very worried that this trouble with their daughter can send them in a self-destructive spiral deep into the clutches of the more fanatical followers of the Midnight Lord. This situation needs to be solved.

Saravyn:
The pay is good, the opportunities to learn something about the Plane of Shadow ample, and while sobbing and clearly distraught, the Tiboros are giving Saravyn and the others enough information on how to help. This looks like a profitable job to the wizard, even if the ragtag bunch of companions he finds himself to work with seem to have less in common with him than usual.

Titania:
In her many travles as a caravan guard, Titania has been halfway around Golarion, but Nidal still looks off-putting to her. There is something unnerving about this nobility keeping good manners and gentle demeanor when their god asks for blood and pain. Anyway, she won’t be here for long. The pay is good and they’re asking them to travel through the woods to a small barony, far from this weird city.

Dario:
Dario is having a field day. These crazy people in Nidal have so many weird habits to fill an entire thesis about the repercussions of the cult of Zon-Kuthon in high society. Every moment he passes here finds out a new custom.
Not only that, he’s getting paid to travel to a rural community: perfect to study the contrast with the city.

Ok, this will be a small prologue. The adventure properly begins with your arrival at Karpad, the small barony, but I wanted to introduce you to the Tiboros family who pays the bills in this adventure.
There is about two weeks of travel from Nisroch to Karpad, mostly in the woods, so the five of you, when the adventure starts, should already be well acquainted with one another.

Think of this prologue as free-form roleplaying: you just got the money and the quest, and you are preparing for the trip in the Tiboros Mansion. Talk among yourselves, describe your actions, etc…
I’ll give you three of four days while I review your crunch and prepare the adventure properly. We are starting with Chapter One Sunday 25th or Monday 26th.

Tiefling

With a grim look and a deep bow, Taldash speaks openly - "Milord, I have been in your service for some time now. I have learned much about principles I believed to be written in stone for me, and in the process I have learned much about myself"

Looking at the nobles directly he proceed - "Also, I have come to respect and defer to your family, as I recognize your honour and good intentions. I have no qualms in saying, even if risking being out of line, that it pains me to see the impact this whole situation has had on this household - I will do whatever is in my reach to find how this can be alleviated"

After speaking, Taldash resumes his seat - he is an impressive, outwardly ambivalent looking creature - a tiefling with fiery hair, and blood red eyes that flare up whenever he is upset, a demonic half breed sporting the symbolisms of a goddess of valor around his neck, serving as a defender of what is good and right in the world, while his fiendish heritage is clearly evident.

Standing tall, he carries himself proudly and assuredly, though he tends to keep to himself, and is not a creature of many words. Whenever not armored, he wears plain travelling clothing, but when he dons his combat equipment, he takes on the looks of a armored hulk, sporting multiple implements of combat all about himself, his holy symbol dangling freely about his neck, for all to see.

Tess quickly observes anyone that enters her sight in the room before resuming looking and listening at anyone talking.

You see an Ulfen Woman with an impressive stature of 6 foot 6.
She has inherited comely human features and has a muscular and curvy build with pale skin,
But her face is beautiful with blue eyes and long Golden Blonde Hair.

Saravyn looks eager and is near to fidgeting in his seat. "Fear not, Lord Tiboros, we shall bring you news of your daughter and her family!" He smiles widely after his proclamation and continues, "After all, I was born for this kind of thing!"

When everyone is dismissed, Saravyn practically rushes from the room to gather his gear. Finally, something to do! A noble cause for me to follow. After gathering his things, Saravyn ponders whether he should confer with the others, muttering aloud, "It would be best, tactically and logistically, to ensure that we all leave at the same time... it is settled then, I shall attempt to speak with the others."

Saravyn, his gear packed and stowed, goes to find the others.

I will be updating this in his personality section. I think a little naivete on Saravyn's part is warranted, considering his upbringing.

Male Dwarf Monk 1/Fighter 1

Ihro dismissed the chains of the servant, not thinking much of them, but upon seeing some of the odd customs of the house he couldn't help but say something "Fergive me ignorance, but is it normal fer nobles to cut themselves like that?"

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

Are you serious? And I thought I was lucky when Lord and Lady Tiboros agreed to discuss their practices and show me their manor chapel. And now they want me to go into the Kuthonite countryside. And they'll even pay me! Perhaps I can write a whole paper on the Kuthonites, not just a section of one!

A small smile shows on Dario's face as the chest is brought over. "Lord Tiboros, I'm just a researcher, but perhaps that is what you need here. I have been meaning to venture out of the city and this is the perfect opportunity. I'll gladly make my way to Karpad and see what I can uncover about your daughter's whereabouts."

He goes to lift the tea, but quickly puts it back down as it burns his fingers. How these people endured that pain was beyond him, but it made for excellent material. He turns to the blunt dwarf and clears his throat. "Ahem. Lord and Lady Tiboros are Kuthonites, sir. I've been studying their practices for quite a while now. Those scars are part of their rituals, much like other cultures ink themselves. There's a certain beauty to it in a way, though I'm sure the Lord and Lady would tell me that it's not about the scarring, but the pain." He bows his head slightly towards them.

Male Dwarf Monk 1/Fighter 1

Ihro stares at Dario, in complete and utter disbelief. However he keeps from completely losing it "That seems...unreasonable that yer god would ask that of ye. But as long as they don't think that others should be in pain as well...guess I'll leave it alone"

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

I realize I may have jumped ahead a little bit with my previous actions, apologies. I'll just hop back in to this conversation if no one objects!

"Well, it does seem to convey a sort of... intimidation, which can be quite useful, even if it is unintentional." Saravyn looks around the room, "I must admit that the decor in the rest of the household would do the same."

Directing his attention to Titos, Saravyn asks, "What is it that led you to becoming a Kuthonite? It does seem a bit odd want to do such things to yourself, the afore-mentioned intimidation aside."

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

"Religious practices are wide ranging. It's why I'm documenting them and I intend to write a series of papers on the matter. Perhaps they will be bound into a book some day." He shrugs. "Kuthonites may have more zeal to their practices, but Pharasma's worshipers dress in black and entomb their dead, and Desna's wander the roads, carry starknives, and revere butterflies. In the right light, they can all look odd."

"Lord Titos, do you have the letters from your daughter? May we see them?"

Map of Karpad

Lord Titos is much grateful to Dario for explaining the ideas of his religion to the blunt dwarf. “The pain is the price that the Midnight Lord ask us to pay, a reminder that an ordered society, free of rebellion, is something worth suffering for.” he adds, a bit coldly, towards Ihro and Saravyn. “The intimidation is a side-effect, much appreciated, I wager, by the militant branch of the church. For us, it is a tradition. We were taught, and our fathers before us, that pain is not something to be feared or avoided. Pain is a reminder that we are mortals, and as such, limited and in need of order. Other churches ask for your hard-earned gold, or for you to take up arms and march against their enemies: the Midnight Lord asks for a bit of your blood, something you were given freely at birth by the gods themselves.

Then he gestures at a servant, who comes with a stack of letters. “Here… most of them, I’m afraid, you’ll find terribly boring – life in Karpad, before the Baron’s paranoia, was peaceful but rather uneventful.” he explains as you go through the letters “As you can see, she says in the later letters that Stepan now spends most of his time in his quarters, barely even acknowledging his firstborn’s presence. He makes quick and distracted appearances at dinner and then disappears into his room again.” the letters, written with very nice feminine calligraphy in the Common tongue, confirm what Lord Titos is explaining “There seem to be a bit of unrest in the town, but… that’s the last letter we received. You can understand our worries…

Male Dwarf Monk 1/Fighter 1

Ihro takes a moment to think "Well I can't say I've never hurt after a training session. I've gotten some nasty bruises sparing or falling off overhangs"

He nods "I'll help however I can"

Tiefling

"I am sure something is absorbing Lord Stepans' full attention - it is the only reason I can fathom to not spending every single moment of your time in the upbringing of your own offspring..." - Taldashs' voice seems to trail off ever so slightly, but clearing his throat he continues - "I expect us to be able to assist in whatever issue is causing such distress"

Male Dwarf Monk 1/Fighter 1

Ihro stands, bluntly saying "Let us be off than. We'll find this Stepan and ask him what he's doing"

Tiefling

Taldash nods - "I agree. It is time"

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

Saravyn replies exuberantly, "I agree as well, I am eager to begin!"

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

Dario ignores the others' insistence for a moment and studies the letters. He makes note of the handwriting style and the word choices. "May I take this last one? It could help." He looks at the others. "Well they do have the right of it. We should leave soon to make up any lost ground."

Tess replies
"I as well am eager to start."

Tiefling

Standing up from his seat, Taldash begins gathering his gear - "Will that be all Sir?"

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

The Half-elf looks to the others and they rise. "Well, seems like we may be together on this journey. I'm Professor Dario Westone." He stops and shakes his head. "Well, perhaps former professor. I used to research and teach at the University in Egorian. I am on..."indefinite sabbatical"."

Map of Karpad

You leave Tiboros manor and Nisroch early at dawn the following day. In your pockets each of you carries a share of the 5000 gold coins Lord Titos paid you. Dario also has the last letter of Anya Tiboros.
The fastest and easiest way to get to Karpad is to follow the Northern Usk River, a path that leads you deep into the Uskwood – a thick, wet, forest where the overpowering presence of nature is of shocking beauty. The oak leaves make a thick, multi-colored layer on the ground, and the few remaining on the branches shine of beautiful oranges and yellows when the sun shines through the clouds.
Unfortunately, it is hard to enjoy the kaleidoscope of warm autumnal colors when a pack of shadow-empowered worgs is jumping at your throat. The road is perilous and hard, but finally, two whole weeks after you left Nisroch, the small tributary called Diman’s Way departs from the Northern Usk River: and you know that following it will bring you to Karpad.

=====================
CHAPTER 1 – Dread of Night
=====================

Late morning, 5th of Neth (autumn), 4712 Age of Lost Omens
Just outside of Karpad, inland Nidal

The dim sunlight is slowly prevailing over the morning fog when you first set foot on Geron’s way, the road that runs side by side with the river you followed to get to Karpad. You are just coming out of a thicket – at the borders of the much more impressive Uskwood – and you finally see it: a rotten wooden sign saying just:

KARPAD – ½ mile.

A few minutes later the village reveals itself to your sight: about sixty thatched roofs connected by cobbled streets and surrounded by logging camps and crop fields, now empty in the late autumn. The houses follow the curve of Diman’s Way, and you see that the whole village is surrounded by a large number of bonfires: looking harder, you see that most crossroads are lit by a handful of torches. Not even at nighttime a small village like this should have this much illumination: having it in the middle of the day is just bizarre.

On the opposite side of the village, slightly perched upon a small hill, you see an old octagonal manor – once certainly impressive, but now its beauty fading and its paint cracking – showing the red and white banner of House Boroi – the baron family Anya married into. The manor is surrounded by bonfires just like the village it overlooks.

in case it was not clear, you departed Nisroch in late October and is now early November (I misused the Golarion months in the prologue, sorry). Also, the link for the town map is up in the Campaign Info tab. You are at the northern crossroad of Geron’s Way, and “A” is the manor.

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

Saravyn surveys the town, noting the number of bonfires. "This is quite odd, why would anyone burn this much wood during the day? Some sort of religious significance? Or is this part of the Baron's paranoia?" Saravyn racks his mind for an answer, muttering to himself as he quickly formulates and discards multiple theories.

I would like to make a Know check here if possible. I am unsure of which to take though. Saravyn does have Breadth of Experience to make unskilled checks.

Male Dwarf Monk 1/Fighter 1

Ihro brunts "Best leave it alone. Let's go and find out what we came to"

"That's a lot of fire, and it likely is using a lot of wood."

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

"I agree. Its strange. Either the Baron has gone mad or the whole town is deathly afraid of something. Something that the fires can keep at bay." Dario looks at the group. "Well, lets go see which it is"

"If they need that many fires at that size, It likely is a something really dangerous, and or big."

Map of Karpad

When you reach a decision as a party, tell me which way you approach, if you waltz in the main square, if you avoid the village and head for the Manor, if you scout the village remaining hidden, whatever... feel free to use the Discussion thread, or to post in here USING THE OOC TAGS to discuss it out of character.

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

"Not necessarily large, but instead it could be many. We cannot discount that the Baron's paranoia may be trying to keep something in, too."

Saravyn watches the perimeter of the town, looking for villagers, while Soar, his owl, perches upon his shoulder.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5 +4 (daytime+alertness from Soar) or +7 (nighttime+alertness from Soar)

Saravyn sounds sure of his next words, "Watching the town to determine if there any threats, from either inside or out, would be the intelligent course of action. We will make our way around the town and see if anyone else has entered or left the town lately.

"If we don't see anything threatening, we attempt a meeting with the Baron to uncover this mystery."

Just clarifying that I'm playing up Saravyn's tendency to believe his way is, tactically and logically, the best way to do things. If his attitude becomes too bossy/annoying, please say so and I'll tone him back!

Tiefling

"I agree with Saravyn" - Taldash comments as he looks to the distance - "I can imagine many reasons for those lights to be there, some of them joyful. However, those we should worry about are cause enough for us to investigate"

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

Dario nods slowly. "Fine, prudence might be best here. Let's circle the town and see what we can observe, trying to stay hidden. We should be seeing people out for errands or tending to livestock"

"That does sound reasonable"

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

It looks like we are all in agreement! Shall we head to the East, through the trees?

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

Crossing that River will eventually be a problem, but we can scout the town.

Dario nods and walks towards the trees to the east. He slows down to begin treading lightly and trying to mix with the shadows.

Moving through the trees to the east to observe the town more.

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

Saravyn follows Dario while ensuring his gear is tightly secured to avoid making noise. Soar sits on his shoulder, sensing Saravyn's need for quiet and trying not to ruffle his feathers too loudly.

Stealth:: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Tess follows quietly
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Tiefling

"Stealth is not my strongest point friends..." - Taldash whispers as he lumbers close to the others, his eyes fixed on the distant lights for any additional clues.

Stealth: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2

Wow.... :D

Ouch

Tess thinks
"Sounds and looks like he could not even hide himself in a forest."

Male Dwarf Monk 1/Fighter 1

Ihro begins walking impressively quietly for a dwarf, but upon hearing Taldash break every single bloody branch on the ground, he just shakes his head and keeps moving

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

Saravyn looks over at Taldash with a raised eyebrow and, with their cover blown, begins to move normally. He seems to be keeping Taldash between himself and the village now.

Tiefling

Having actually not found a real reason to stay hidden, Taldash takes note of the sideglances and the eye-rolling from his companions and smiles - "Apologies friends" - then strides confidently towards the village.

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

Having taken the lead towards into the forest, Dario looks back with alarm as he thinks he hears a peddler's wagon rolling through the trees. When he only sees Taldash in his armor, the half-elf smirks and falls in with the others. "The trees should still give us some concealment. Let's see what we can observe."

Map of Karpad

Initially you move quite quietly through the woods, spying on the village. Besides the bonfires, it seems like one of the many small towns that dot every country in central Golarion: it probably houses no more than 200 people, and you see some of them at work – loggers tying donkeys to a cart full of timber, a few farmers that tend to the few trees still in season for fruit – mostly chestnuts and walnuts.
It is hard to see inside the village, since the smoke from the bonfires and the houses cover the central square.

You are about to get closer when Taldash scares a big flock of sparrows sitting lazily on the tree branches. The birds take the sky with much noise and agitation, and immediately a couple of loggers, both humans in their forties, turn their heads and spot you. Initially startled, they see you striding normally, abandoning every pretense of stealth.

After a few seconds scratching their head and digesting the surprise, one of them spits on the ground and nods a half-hearted greeting “Fellers,” he says “If y’all looking to get in th’ town, road’s just a few yards to yar right, y’know? No need to go ‘round in th' woods scaring birds and ol’ folks.

Male Dwarf Monk 1/Fighter 1

*Sits quietly watching others, then pokes one of them* "Goooo talky people, go talk and stuff. Six charisma will hide here"

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

Saravyn begins stepping forward, his hand raised awkwardly in greeting, "Ho, there, elderly humans..."

Tiefling

Taldash greets the loggers openly - "Well met friends, and please accept our apologies if we have startled you in some way. We are in fact not from these parts, and have definitely moved from the path as you have so indicated"

Moving closer, in an unthreatening manner he continues - "You say then that the path lies just over yonder - we will follow your information, as we are indeed travelling to Karpad. We have also noticed a large number of bonfires from the distance - is there some sort of local celebration being held in the village?"

Diplomcay: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

NG Male Elf Wizard 4 HP:23/23, AC:13:13:10, Init:+9, Per:+2 (+5 in shadows), Saves:3:5:5 +2 vs Enchantment

At first, Saravyn looks perturbed at being interrupted, but he quickly realizes that Taldash has a much better way with words than himself. He backs off, lowers his hand, and begins to formulate plans in case this duo of loggers is more than they appear.

Male Half-Elf Archaeologist Bard 3 / Ranger 1 [28/28hp | AC: 18/13/15 | F+4 R+8 W+4 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | low-light vision; Per +10, SM +5] [Luck: 8/9]

Dario approaches the Paladin and the man, but stays quiet. Taldash seemed to be doing quite well and he didn't want to interrupt the flow of the conversation.

Tiefling

Sorry Saravyn, didn't mean to barge in...

Map of Karpad

The logger who remained silent tightens the grip on the splitting axe he is holding. He looks at you, suspicious. “Boy, there ain’t one normal fella among you, ah?” he says “coupl’a pointy ears, we don’t see many of them ‘round here no more… and what in Kuthon’s name are you, boy? Are those horns?” his voice sounds raspy when he adresses Taldash.

The one that greeted you seems a bit friendlier. He swaps the sweat from his brow while listening to Taldash “Now, now, Gordon, that’s no way to greet trav’lers! You gotta a tall stunning one here, too… from oop North, seems to me… bet’ya don’t have a beef with her, ah?” he winks at his companion and makes a sorry excuse for a bow towards Titania “You gotta forgive me friend, he ain’t too well these days. My name’s Brecht, and this ol’ grump is Gordon.

Perception DC 15:
You see that Gordon has an engorged throat, barely covered by a loose scarf. The skin on the throat is darkened and the man is showing signs of pain.

Brecht continues “There’s nothing festive about them fires, fellers. They’re there ta scare off the shadow fever. Not a time for celebration ‘round here, no sir…” his mood darkens a bit “Unless you call a celebration what’s happening to them three shadow people in the big square. Heh!” he smiles a dark and cynical smile “Wish I could be there ta see them basterds kick the bucket, but I gotta work… c’mon Gordon, we need’ta take down them four pines ‘fore comes lunchtime.” he tips his hat “Nice meeting ya, fellers!
