The Pathfinders easily overcome the mold and destroy it, as it's hit with an arrow, a bomb, and a starknife. Unfortunately, the bombs don't distinguish friend from foe, and end up killing the host as well.
Out of combat!
The vial of herbicide you came looking for is in plain view right in the middle of the trail, sitting there unharmed and intact. With nothing left to do here, you retrieve the herbicide and bring it back to Dr Quolorum. He is quite pleased with your success but his mind is already on what comes next, and his congratulations are brief.
That completes this quest, only one more to go! To save myself some time searching through all your previous gameplay posts, can you tell me if you collected the following items? Ectoplasmic ointment specimens, the etheric compasses, and take notes of the Eye of Gorum?

GM Turmoil |
The next morning, you wake up to find the following note slipped under the door.
My most capable allies,
This is it! I have finally triangulated the source of the intriguing phenomena near the peak of Diremark in the eastern reaches of the Hungry Mountains. It’s so obvious in hindsight, considering the legends of the place, that I’m surprised nobody thought of it sooner.
Given the highly charged nature of the ether right now, it’s best if I accompany you to the source to learn what has transpired. Meet me on the slopes of Diremark and we’ll put this mystery to rest before the new semester begins and I return to the drudgery of reading first-year essays on the ethical questions raised by charm spells.
Huzzah!
Dr. Quolorum
You have a couple of hours before you're scheduled to meet up, to purchase supplies or prepare in any way. Once it's time, you begin the trek up Diremark to the rendezvous point, where you find the gnome professor waiting. "Yes, yes! It's about time, let's end all this nonsense for good now. Now here, I've prepared a few things for you all based on your prior missions that I believe may help us out on this adventure!" He hands you a small sack with the following items.
Feel free to ask him any questions you'd like. Also, posting this again if you need it.
Daedîn |
GM: A couple of questions...is there enough ointment for all of us or just one? If I were to dip my arrows in the herbicide, how many arrow would it coat?
GM Turmoil |
Yup, let's say there's enough ointment for everyone. As for the poison, PF rules state that 1 piece of ammunition requires 1 dose, just as a melee weapon. It doesn't say how many doses in total are in the jar but let's say 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5. Though if you coat weapons with it, I will say that it no longer has enough to act as a splash weapon.
Daedîn |
I think the only ones who have used traditional weapons are Daedîn, Jazk, and Thalionwen...if no one objects, I'll dip two arrows into the herbicide...I think we'll get a better use from it with multiple weapons coated as opposed to just one splash weapon...
Daedîn will put some ointment on his skin, draw the Eye of Gorum on his cloak, and dip two arrows into the herbicide...
Once Dr. Quolorum and his companions are ready to go, Daedîn will keep an eye out for danger and go into stealth mode while searching the Diremark...
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Jazk Rhatszi |
I believe you are correct. Even with using 'traditional' weapons, I prefer to throw them. :-P I'd like to dip my cold-iron starknife in the goo. If there are any doses left after the others take a shot, I'll dip my alchemical silver one as well.
Jazk sits silently, watching Daedin prepare for the day. Copying the man's techniques, he proceeds to draw the symbol on his own armor, and coat himself in the strange smelling paste. Finally, he dips his favored blade in the herbicide.
Following the scout, Jazk keeps his blade at the ready. If anything has proven to be true in the preceeding days, danger lurks everywhere.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
GM Turmoil |
With no further questions, the Pathfinders and Dr Quolorum begin the ascent of Diremark. Gusting winds howl, and storms darken the sky during the your ascent. A few scrub trees cling to the crumbling granite face of the mountain, and snow is visible higher up the slope. The trail itself is not difficult, although there are some sections that run right against a cliff edge, giving a dramatic, if harrowing, sight of the forest below and Lantern Lake beyond.
The next part has a lot of RP opportunity. I ask that you please only read your own spoiler. It's nothing game breaking if you do, but I'm just trying to play up the scene a bit.
Daedîn |
Knowledge (Geography) Untrained: 1d20 ⇒ 19 Max: 10
Hearing the thunder, Daedîn has an uneasy feeling as the party ascends the mountain...
"I get the feeling that what we seek knows we're coming...and laughs at us..."
He shakes his head and quietly continues on...drawing his bow to ease his fears...
Jazk Rhatszi |
"Remember the previous sto-" he begins, stopping abruptly as he looks down.
'What the...' considers Jazk as he gingerly places first one then the other foot down. "Are you guys seeing this?"
Glancing around at his companions feet, he realizes it's only him. "I seem to be...melting? Yeah. It seems I'm melting the rocks as I step on them."
Quickly stomping his feet a few times, he tries to show his companions. His eyes wide, he glances back up "You see it??"

Thalionwen |
"I'm not seeing anything." Thalionwen looks around nervously trying to figure out what the others are noticing, as her body begins to shiver. Her teeth chatter a bit as she tries to figure out what Jazk is looking at.
Hadzi Ubuntu |
Hadzi stares at something off in the distance. He takes Shikaba from her pouch and places her on the ground. Kneeling down he whispers to her and points into the distance.
Jazk Rhatszi |
"Don't you see it?" asks the man. Exasperated, he looks to his companions. With a raised eye, he asks "What's wrong with you all? What's going on doctor?!"

Heraclitus Ourobouros |
Knowledge (Geography): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Heraclitus catches up to the group after a roundabout tour of gods-know-where.
"That child? YES, I saw him! I keep seeing him! I think he's beyond help, though...doesn't seem all that unhappy with his fate, really...."
Daedîn |
After seeing and hearing his companions, Daedîn shakes his head and frowns.
"I fear that whatever the source of this phenomena is, it has the power to play with our minds. Dr. Quolorum, I should've asked this earlier...any guess as to just what this source may be?"
GM Turmoil |
"I don't know exactly what we will face, but I think whatever is causing these disturbances will almost certainly assault our minds. Guard your thoughts, and watch your step."
Ahead the trail ends at a place where the mountain has split. A fifty-foot wide crevasse separates one side from the other and the only crossing is over a massive boulder that has broken off the mountainside to the east and has become stuck as it rolled down. The trail continues on the other side. "I'm certain this is the right way! We must get to the other side!"
Moving closer to the boulder in a rush to see his discovery come to life, the professor startles as a figure appears before you. The figure is a ghostly image of an aristocratic-looking woman with sad eyes who waves you all closer. You all immediately recognise the woman as Lady Illrigarde though her clothes don’t quite match what they’ve seen before, and her eyes are slightly too large.
Heraclitus Ourobouros |

You all immediately recognise the woman as Lady Illrigarde though her clothes don’t quite match what they’ve seen before, and her eyes are slightly too large.
"Oh, no! She's been caricaturized by a Tian artist!!!"
Daedîn |
Daedîn frowns as he looks upon the ghostly image...
"Either you are the Lady Illirigarde come to warn us again...or you are this phenomena's illusion come to delay us...I say you are the latter since you look so different from your prior appearance. Begone from us!"
Daedîn ignores this image and tries to climb over the boulder...

Daedin Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
The ghostly image of Lady Illrigarde does not respond in any way to the Pathfinders, and simply paces back and forth on the other side of the boulder. As Daedin begins to cross rock itself seems to melt and flow as if it were made of thick mud, but he shakes it off and doesn't let it affect him.
As everyone attempts to cross over the boulder, I need a Will save and two climb checks. No taking 10 either.
GM Turmoil |
Though Heraclitus is able to shrug off the illusion of the boulder, they nonetheless end up falling into the crevasse! Though they are quite lucky to end up on a ledge only 30 ft down, the ifrit lands with a thud and stops moving.
Fall damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6) = 13 Ouch, unfortunately you are currently dying. You can attempt a DC 15 Acrobatics check to negate the first 10 ft of fall damage.
Daedîn |
Daedîn watches in dismay as Heraclitus falls...he quickly yells over at the witch doctor...
"Hadzi, can you channel positive energy down to Heraclitus? He's not moving...may be dying...or worse..."
