Vicenzo: Gather Information (up to three topics or re-roll a previous one) <- Following Melani and Anarxos
I'm not sure I understand this. Are you rolling for these checks?
And yes, Vicenzo would gladly tag along with Melani and/or Anarxos.
Ahreni, Fallen Angel |
Ahreni wants to talk to Cindri about setting up an organisation. Not in the full downtime sense but I want to start recruiting a ring of urchins/loyal citizens etc who can be paid/encouraged to inform on people. How you want to rule this working I don't mind.
The more time I spend on this the more I'm thinking Ahreni is going to take Master Spy levels - she's getting started early. :)
Marcellus Vossler |
Not to roll things back too far, but Marcellus would approach Melani shortly after the interrogation of Kels and request Asmodeus's blessing to help him heal from the injuries he's still recovering from. A single infernal healing would patch him up completely.
As far as downtime, he's amenable to helping Ahreni build a network of loyal citizens among the rabble.
Melani* Starsmite |
Melani would take that opportunity to chastise Marcellus for his lack of discipline in dealing with the tavern keeper. We agreed to a plan of non-lethal force. You did not object, and then you immediately and with seeming forethought broke that agreements. This is unacceptable to both me and my master. We must work together for his glory. I will have your sworn word that this will not happen again. Asmodeus is not as forgiving as I and if I were to grant you his blessing without such assurances then I jeopardize my place with him.
I don't want to drag it out here since Marcellus posted it in discussion but Melani insists of a vow from Marcellus to follow the groups plans from this point on or let his objections be known during the planning. She also informs his that should he break this vow there will be penance to be paid. She does this in private. OOC my goal is to give Marcelus a RP reason to behave. :) Unsure if this will help or not. He gets to pick. But Melani will stick to her word here and not provide healing without this vow.
Melani* Starsmite |
Oh, if we can have some go backs, Melani can channel to get every up to full. I just noticed the party condition spoiler. She would do this before sleeping ideally.
Channel Evil: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) = 9
Marcellus Vossler |
"My loyalty is to Thrune and the Archbaron. We both swore the Compact. I will not apologize for my actions in the heat of battle, but I recognize that I am currently ill-equipped for bringing miscreants in alive," the veteran replies. "You have my word that I will be ready for such situations in the future. I think I must see if I can procure a weapon more suited to nonlethal tactics."
Marcellus is going to go purchase a whip during the downtime as well. In addition, what manner of healing potions can be procured from somewhere other than the Church of Iomedae? Even a potion of infernal healing would be preferable to him.
Ahreni, Fallen Angel |
Why are we roleplaying in the discussion thread?
I think Marcellus is dealing with the oath Melani wants him to swear. Since we've passed that time in game they're doing it here... I think...
Melani* Starsmite |
Er, there has been no discussion of shutting down the inn. That would indeed make things worse Marcuellus. And I am sure ceasing of private property is a great way to increase the rebellion points. I gotta ask, are we are the same side?

Guys, I'm going to bring this into the gameplay thread where it should go so we can all roleplay.
GM Advocate |
Melani is correct regarding the time. You arrested Caggan and Kels on the previous night, quickly interrogating Kels and releasing him, and also locking Caggan in the pillory to spend the night.
On the other day, each of you run some errands and by the end of the day had your conversation with Mr. Ingoe. As soon as he left, Anarxos brought Caggan from the pillory for interrogation.
After releasing Cagggan, you can still decide to do something or just sleep, starting the next day.
Anarxos Voralius |
Anarxos's plans for the night are to rest.
On the following day, he'd like to give chase to the man he's hunting down, provided the rest of the team agrees.

I'm good with this plan.
GM Advocate |
Ok, our last scene was you interrogating Caggan and soon after you pulled Marcellus aside to talk about his behavior, which turned ok for everyone... but what about Caggan? Will you interrogate him more or just release him?
@Anarxos: The way I've read it, it seems the others are waiting for you to interrogate Caggan, since you mentioned you were going to do that...
Anarxos Voralius |
Oh, really? I didn't get that, sorry. Is there more to be learnt from him? He seemed rather forthcoming when I interrogated him, and I'd much rather move to something else.
Melani* Starsmite |
I'd like to release him with him feeling that we went easy on him, considering his attack on us and the laws he broke. Not necessarily "good will" towards but at least a grudgingly admittance that we did less that we might have against him because it was a first offense and we genuinely hope he will go back and operate his establishment in accordance with the law. Any way we ca get there?
GM Advocate |
Ok, just wanted to be sure that the idea was to move on. Normally I'd move it along, but since Caggan is under your guard, there is no way for me to push without 'botting' you, since he can't leave by himself.
Moving you in a couple minutes!
Vicenzo, human witch |
Confused here... :)
Are these two scenes?
One when Mr. Ingoe's house is burning down and a second when we go north and find a farmhouse?
GM Advocate |
Actually I think I expressed myself poorly... there is nothing wrong with Mr. Ingoes home! It is just a regular smoke from his fireplace. It is not supposed to be a scene, just a casual description of the way towards the farmhouse Anarxos was looking for.
Marcellus Vossler |
Hey folks. I really hate to do this because I consider a PbP a solemn commitment, but in the wake of new restrictions of when I can access the internet at my job (which takes up the vast majority of each day), I am no longer able to post consistently enough to keep up with you all in this game. It really hurts to withdraw from a game, especially one as awesome and active as this, but I cannot guarantee that I can post frequently anymore and until the situation changes (which it is unlikely to do anytime soon), I am going to have to withdraw from this PbP.
GM, I leave it to you to have Marcellus bow out of the campaign - if he would prove useful to your ongoing story, I'd be honored if you continued to include him as an NPC in some capacity.
My deepest apologies, everyone. I hope you all continue to have an excellent adventure without me.
Melani* Starsmite |
Yikes. So sorry to see you go. Was very much looking forward to seeing the relationship between Mel and Marcellus develop.
Anarxos Voralius |
Same here, I'm sad to see you go. However I do understand fully, and hope everything will turn out fine for you.
Vicenzo, human witch |
Yeah, that's too bad. I was already seeing some interesting inter-party politics going on.
But if you don't have time then you don't have time.
I hope life gets back to where you can game again.
@GM: someone with muscle (melee) is preferable for our next companion. :)
Melani* Starsmite |
Hey, I will be out of town this weekend starting tomorrow morning and will have limited access to my computer for posting until next Tuesday. Going to Dragon Con. :)
GM Advocate |
It is sad to say Marcellus go but sometimes (more than we'd like), like happens.
The bright side is that I've already found another player to take his place. I'm planning for her to join you as soon as you return to Longacre. I'm also expecting that this new player with be more present than Marcellus and will help us move this game faster.
Oh, and yes, she is a melee front-liner PC!
Thanks for let us know, Melani!

Good deal!
Welcome Pava!
GM Advocate |
Anarxos, are you aware that, as a paladin (I think it is already clear that he is a paladin with her armor and described effects so far), Mr. Devranal will be immune to the shaken condition?
All paladins are immune to fear effects, and shaken IS a fear effect. If you forgot about it and wishes to change your action, fell free to do so.
Anarxos Voralius |
To be completely honest, I didn't remember that (and you're absolutely right, immunity to fear also means immune to the shaken condition). Anarxos has next to no experience with paladins, so he might ignore that too (until now). Hence I won't change my action, it's what my character would do. Thanks for the offer, though! It's much appreciated.
Pava Arioch |
Welcome Pava!
Thanks much!
I'm very excited to try to live up to the excellent roleplaying that I've read in the gameplay thread this weekend. You are a fantastic and deliciously diabolical group; I hope we get up to a great many awful things together.
I'm 42, and in Michigan in the US. (That puts me in Eastern time, GMT -4/-5 depending on our mood.) I've been playing some form of the world's first/oldest rpg since before you had both a class and a race. In real life, I apply statistics and process control to measurements so that my company makes good parts (or, at least, I try). Up to this point, there seems to be enough time and access to play a few games on the side; I'm in a couple of other APs and have a number of PFS characters running, too. 6 months ago, I couldn't find a PbP game to save my life, but you have to start somewhere. :)
Thanks again for having me.
As an aside, I have to let you know that I just stole this for my home game.
GM Advocate |
As an aside, I have to let you know that I just stole this for my home game.
I'm glad that you liked! Social skills are a bit vague IMO.
As a side note, I'll give you more time for you to RP among yourselves before moving on. You have the whole weekend for this and I'll be moving you ahead on Monday!
Anarxos Voralius |
Sorry for yesterday, I haven't been able to post, mostly because I'm moving next week and so much remains to be done as far as boxes are concerned. Moving day is Thursday 15th, so expect me to have limited time and connectivity for a few days then. Sorry about that!
Secondly, welcome Pava! I'm very glad you chose to join our band of merry (wo)men of mischief.
Thirdly, my last post in the Gameplay thread referred to how we should handle loot. So far we haven't decided anything about that, and I'm sure we even haven't kept track of the items looted until now. I vaguely remember a weapon being taken in the tavern, as well as the Sheriff's stash, but I haven't paid too much attention to it either.
So to make things clear OOC, here's what I propose (feel free to voice your disagreement or agreement of course!):
#1 Pool the items we loot.
#2 See if anyone wants anything. Give them the appropriate item(s).
#3 Sell the rest. Use part of that money to buy consumables for the whole group (curative items, scrolls/potions/wands that can help with our survival and well-being as a whole, etc.)
#4 Split the rest of the money among ourselves according to the value of the items people chose to keep at step #2. For example, if someone claims a +1 full plate (2,500 gp, off the top of my head), then he'll forgo the next 2,500 gp from the split to compensate.
The last step is the most controversial I think, since there can be many variants to this.
Thoughts? Any input is welcome.

I have no issues with this - all the games I play in do something similar. I'm going to go through the gameplay thread tonight and double check what we have and haven't got. I'll get the maths up here later and we can crunch numbers there.

Yeah, I already posted IC that I'm fine with this method.
And thanks Ahreni for taking on the quartermaster role.
Game on!
Anarxos Voralius |
Agreed, thanks a lot Ahreni! I'm very glad you volunteered, since it's a role I strongly dislike handling myself.

We are in general a lawful group and should choose some method of loot division that benefits the group when possible. I think some version of this system does.
One point I want to ask about is when someone claims an item we found do they get "charged" the value of that item or the sale value of that item. I prefer it be the sale item, as that is what the party would get for it if we sell it and in that way we slightly reward and incentivize keeping found items. This will increase the gear value in the party. Thoughts?
And I too want to thank Ahreni for helping with the loot.
Pava Arioch |

I've never seen this expressed before, but it's really quite brilliant. It seems so obviously the better choice, I'm surprised it's not that common. Good call.
Anarxos Voralius |
I don't mind "charging" the sale price of the item, it makes sense.
Thanks a lot GM for that list, it looks very exhaustive!
Melani* Starsmite |
Note: I am not recommending this for our group, but I wanted to point out another innovation for those with spreadsheet-fu and a desire to maximize.
My Tuesday night group does what I recommend above, BUT instead of handing out gold as it comes it they hoard it and keep a running gear value for each player. When there is a chance to buy something (in town for shopping, etc) the ask the lowest geared player if he wants to buy something. They cap the max item purchase based on current level somehow. If he does he can spend up to that cap and get an item, like may be a stat boost item. They add that value to their gear value list and then go to the next person who has the lowest gear value. Sometimes it works out that its still that first person that has the current low value, depending on what he chose to buy.
In this way one person might get a nice gear upgrade instead of everyone getting 900 gold.
Ahreni, Fallen Angel |
Hey guys - have finished loot tracking, thanks GM!
Loot tracker is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mJcV-AqJbJAC4iNES5NF5fRKKsucgUvfG1_ sG4Y9ISw/edit?usp=sharing
You will note all items are priced by sale value - as discussed above it makes more sense for all the reasons Melani said. If there's something you want then shout and I'll mark it on.
GM - can you put this in the campaign header?
EDIT: We have a fraction under 4200gp in coins and items. Player split 1049.7 each (nothing for Pava... yet :) ) So if Melani still wants the Full Plate she can have it and 224.7gp (825+225=1049.7). That doesn't allow for communal item buying though and isn't selling any consumables at all.
GM Advocate |
So, any more plans for tonight or we can move to the next day?
Also, what are the plans for tomorrow?
@Pava: Each day, each one of you needs to tell me what you wish to do along that day (take a look on the campaign tab for the possible actions). Then I'll make it happen or not, depending if there is an 'event' for this day or not.
Vicenzo, human witch |
Yes, when I was getting myself up to speed on things, I noticed the Downtime system; I will have to refresh myself on that. Are you looking for downtime actions now, or in our posts for the next day? Are we coordinating activities towards any particular goal right now?
Pava is otherwise ready to move on to the next day.
We had a side-quest that got Marcellus killed that I believe is completed.
Vicenzo does not have a 'goal'. I could invent something but would rather move the story forward.
I think it is precisely the lack of a goal that has made this game slow down a bit.
We need a goal (and a champion) or we need to move along with the story.
Game on!
Melani* Starsmite |
Mel has a goal, or two to attend to based on her background. I inherited that background so might not be as involved with it as I might be. It was my choice to inherit thought so I am trying. :) If her mother is in town she certainly would like to know about it. I doubt that Kol is here but if so she really needs to know that as well.
1) Things Mel wants to do, more or less in order is to gather info and rumors about town and check in on our informants. The goal here is to generally keep up with what is going on and maybe head them off, but specifically also looking to hear more about Mel's mother and anything about Kol.
2) Start/continue building a congregation for her new church.
Ahreni, Fallen Angel |
Ahreni most definitely has goals but they're long term ones - she needs resources and allies to take on Graxus and the GR. Currently she doesnt have the strength so her priorities will be selling all our loot safely and at the highest possible price.
For myself I'm happy to move on with the story, so if there are going to be a few days of downtime I'd be happy to be told all of them so that we can get them out of the way quicker...
