GM Aarvid |
@Rem - no problem. We are near the finish line
@Ruth - I believe also with the fear gone, your true-strike is still active since your next turn has not yet come...make it count.
=== Round 2 (con't) ===
1. Darksid'Ious, Friar Huck, Ruth <--- These can go!
2. Shang Xu
3. Saldoc(Paralyzed), Meredith(-10), Rem(Paralyzed)
Ruth Rubani |
Ruth feels her muscles relax as she is freed from the grip of fear. She charges the beast as she sends an Arcane charge up her blade. Giving a loud defiant scream she tries to run her blade straight through the big hairy creature. RAWWWW!!!
Attack: 1d20 - 1 - 1 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 - 1 + 20 + 1 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 12
GM Aarvid |
Ruth slams her blade into the creature, drawing bright red blood against the white fur. This enrages the beast more and it changes its focus from Meredith to Ruth.
It drops the crude club and unleashes its freezing cold claws.
"ROOOAOOOOORRRRR!"
On Ruth claw: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 vs AC17
for claw+cold: 1d4 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + (6) = 16 Ouch!
On Meredith claw: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 vs AC
for claw+cold: 1d4 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (6) = 13
Both women drop with a slash of blood instantly frozen.
SHHAAAAANNGGGGG XXXXUUUUUUUUU!"
Shang Xu pounds his chest and looks for his next victim.
=== Round 3 ===
1. Saldoc, Meredith(-23, prone, bleeding), Rem
2. Darksid'Ious, Friar Huck, Ruth(-16, prone, bleeding)
3. Shang Xu (-12)
Party goes. And yes, this is the final fight.
You get the impression that melee with it may not be the best option.
Saldoc Tisbane |
Saldoc realizes that his best option is to stand up and fight the creature despite its power and his own fatigue! He moves into a flanking position and strikes!
Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 2 = 24 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (1) = 6
Confirm?: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 12 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Darksid'Ious |
Not good...
Continuing for his last round his poem, Darksid'Ious aims at the creature.
Hear the loud alarum bells --
Brazen bells !
What tale of terror, now, their turbulency tells !
In the startled ear of night
How they scream out their affright !
Too much horrified to speak,
They can only shriek, shriek,
Out of tune,
In a clamorous appealing to the mercy of the fire,
In a mad expostulation with the deaf and frantic fire,
Leaping higher, higher, higher,
With a desperate desire,
And a resolute endeavor
Now -- now to sit or never,
By the side of the pale-faced moon.
Oh, the bells, bells, bells !
What a tale their terror tells
Of Despair !
How they clang, and clash, and roar !
What a horror they outpour
On the bosom of the palpitating air !
Yet the ear, it fully knows,
By the twanging,
And the clanging,
How the danger ebbs and flows ;
Yet, the ear distinctly tells,
In the jangling,
And the wrangling,
How the danger sinks and swells,
By the sinking or the swelling in the anger of the bells --
Of the bells --
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells --
In the clamour and the clangour of the bells !
Taking at both hand his crossbow he shoots the creature.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 - 4 = 4
Damages: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Inspire Courage : +1 competence bonus to attack and weapon damages and +1 moral bonus to will save against charm and fear effect.
Meredith Une |
Stabilization Check, DC 10: 1d20 + 2 - 7 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 7 = 11
Meredith manages to stabilize as she collapses.
Oh boy. I think we're all melee here. Not good. If we had some plant growth I would have used entangle.
GM Aarvid |
Saldoc springs into action and stabs at the abominable snowman from behind. He pierces a kidney, and the beast lets out a howl, but continues to stand.
RAARRRR!"
Darksid'Ious shoots into the melee with a crossbow but the wind catches the bolt.
Meredith's blood stops leaving her body as her mind wanders to green fields of warm grass and swaying willow trees...
=== Round 3 con't ===
1. Friar Huck, Ruth(-16, prone, bleeding), Rem <=== can go
2. Shang Xu (rage, -26)
3. Saldoc, Darksid'Ious, Meredith(-23, prone)
Friar Huck Flaxseed |
Yeah, oh boy. Huck isn't very effective at range... and not much at melee either, haha. He has some potions to use on Meredith if it didn't provoke.
@Saldoc: Don't forget inspire and flanking from Huck right now.
Huck isn't confident that he would be able to grapple with this beast so he tries a different tactic: kicking it where it hurts!
flurry of blows: 1d20 - 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 + 2 + 1 = 12
damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 + 1 = 3
DC 13 Fort save or stunned for 1 round
flurry of blows: 1d20 - 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 + 2 + 1 = 19
damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 + 1 = 4
Damn, should have put the stunning fist on the second strike. Well, that was about all I could do.
GM Aarvid |
Friar Huck steps up with both fists of fury landing on the creature.
fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
However the stun does not penetrate the creature's frothing brain.
Saldoc Tisbane |
@Huck: Yep, got them both. Being fatigued is a problem, I'm not going to be able to use my offhand weapon properly.
Ruth Rubani |
Fort Save to Stabilize: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10
Ruth's wounds freeze almost instantly after she falls to the ground.
GM Aarvid |
Rem casts a spell under the feet of the beast...
reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 vs DC14
But the furry clawed feet avoid slipping in the greasy goo.
GM Aarvid |
Oops - site crashed and I lost the rest of my post
The mountain of white and bloody fur spins to attack Saldoc and tries to grab Saldoc.
SHANNNGGGGG XUUUU squish little mannnn!"
CMB grapple: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 vs CMD for cold: 1d6 ⇒ 2
This provokes an AOO from Saldoc but if the yeti grabs him,
his body will do the cold damage in addition to both gaining the grappled condition
Party goes...
=== Round 4 ===
1. Saldoc(-2, grappled?), Darksid'Ious, Meredith(-23, prone)
2. Friar Huck, Ruth(-16, prone), Rem
2. Shang Xu (grappled?, rage, -33)
Friar Huck Flaxseed |
Huck tries again to punch the creature in the backside.
flurry of blows: 1d20 - 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 + 2 + 1 = 9
damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 + 1 = 1
flurry of blows: 1d20 - 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 + 2 + 1 = 14
damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 + 1 = 1
Saldoc Tisbane |
AoO: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 2 = 19 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 plus Can you get Sneak Damage on an AoO?: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Saldoc finds himself in the clutches of the creature! He tries to stab it again!
Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 2 = 19 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Confirm?: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 2 = 17 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
GM Aarvid |
Saldoc manages to stab the creature's hand before he can grab him, thus avoiding being grappled.
Huck lands a couple small fists. Darksid'Ious hits with a crossbow bolt and the creature bellows in pain. And Saldoc stabs his blade again and the creature falls hard to the ground...dead.
Out of Combat
Saldoc Tisbane |
Oh no, we have to help them! Saldoc points at the fallen Pathfinders. Here, take this and help them! Saldoc offers his Wand of Cure Light Wounds to anyone that can properly use it.
Meredith Une |
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
With one usage of the wand, Meredith stirs awake. "Ah, floor. We meet again. I assume the big guy is down, or I'd be some kind of paste."
She groggily stands up. "You can use my wand. Once more and I should be able to help myself."
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Full!
Meredith Une |
"Let's get Ruth back on her feet. She clobbered that thing before it dropped her."
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Okay, that should do it."
Friar Huck Flaxseed |
Huck wipes off the sweat which has somehow accumulated on his brow despite the cold weather. "Are they well? That fella was tough. But we still haven't found this artifact we're looking for, right? We need to keep turning this place over."
Ruth Rubani |
Screaming as she wakes. "Aaahhhh! What? Oh I am alive. Thank you!" Ruth sits up and frantically looks around. "Where is my sword?" Finding it lying behind her on the ground she cleans the blade and puts it away.
Taking a few minutes to gather her wits. "Yes we still need to find the artifact. Let's clear the place of beast then we can make a more through search once we know we are safe."
I would love to keep on for the next adventure.
GM Aarvid |
You recover from the battle. The creature has nothing of value on it. You spy two other buildings with doors facing the courtyard.
Saldoc Tisbane |
Well, might as well check them out while we can. Saldoc checks out the doors to the north.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
If all is well and the party is ready, he'll open the doors.
Meredith Une |
"Well, if we're done getting killed. Let's see what's inside this building."
When ready (and Ruth reapplies some Mage Armor), Meredith tries to open the door and peer inside.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
GM Aarvid |
Opening the northern door reveals another long room.
Eleven ruined mattresses and a few aged and cracked pots are this room’s only furnishings. A section of the ceiling has collapsed in the northwestern corner of the room, causing the wind to howl eerily as it blows over the building. A series of images has been carved into the still-standing sections of the room’s walls, each image indicating a humanoid in a series of different positions and stances.
Meredith finds a stairway once led from this room to the lower levels of the monastery complex. Now a collapsed section of ceiling has completely blocked the northwestern 10-by-10-foot area, including the stairwell, preventing anybody, including the yetis from exploring further.
Saldoc Tisbane |
After conducting a search of the area, Saldoc will proceed to the other building.
Perception for room: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Perception for door: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Meredith Une |
"We may have a do some digging here if we don't find anything in the other building." Meredith takes a look at the other building.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
GM Aarvid |
Moving to the next building and opening the door.
This room once served as the master’s quarters. Shang Xu has made his nest in this room and a pile of filth covers the once-fine mats laid upon the floor.
The search of the smelly nest uncovers a braided cord located among the various sticks and animal bones.
There are also a number of other, surprisingly fragile items of value located in the nest, including
Meredith Une |
"I guess the Yetis used this as their nest." Meredith frowns. "Kinda feel bad for intruding on their home and killing them. But they did attack us."
She carefully looks at the beads. "The Braid of a Hundred Masters, I presume?"
Friar Huck Flaxseed |
Friar Huck shrugs. "I don't know anything about magic or magic-infused items. Is anyone able to check for that sort of thing? Let's make sure we've got the right Braid. Of course, we should really just try to bring back as much as we can carry."
Saldoc Tisbane |
Yes, good idea Friar. Let's check the rest of this place.
To the last door! Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Ruth Rubani |
Ruth moves over behind Saldoc sword at the ready.
GM Aarvid |
Opening the door and looking into the next room.
This fifteen-foot-by-thirty-foot room seems to have escaped the destruction found throughout the rest of the monastery. A statue, leaning against the northern wall, appears out of place among the rest of the room’s contents—clay pots, ruined sacks, and aged tools. The statue, made of finely carved stone with jade inlays, depicts a man with a serene face, standing in a meditative stance.
GM Aarvid |
GM Aarvid |
As Darksid'Ious searches the room....
You hear a voice in your head as you search the place, and look at the statue.
"Greetings. Doth thou seek knowledge of the masters in this temple of learning?"
Communicating with the voice is at first disconcerting, due to the medium of communication and his archaic speech patterns.
Meredith Une |
"Beautiful. Let's take a look, here..."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
"Huh. There is a lot of stuff in here!"
Darksid'Ious |
Darksid'Ious face seems concerned for a moment before he turns to his comrades.
Hmm ?! Guys ! The statue speaks to me in my head !
He responds trying to find exactly how to comunicate with it.
What, or who, are you ?
Saldoc Tisbane |
It does? Saldoc will search the statue for anything out of place or hidden.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Ruth Rubani |
Ruth will search the room with the others. While doing so she says a quick cryptic phrase and her hand begins to glow. Detect Magic
Perception: 20 + 5 = 25 Taking a 20
Friar Huck Flaxseed |
Huck shakes his head. "I don't hear anything but I've never heard tell of a good voice that speaks in your head. It hasn't tried to kill us yet though...."
GM Aarvid |
Searching the statue provides a similar mental greeting for Ruth and Saldoc (see spoiler above)
Those in the room with statue hear the following telepathically.
“I am Jiang Dan, a simple servant of the Master of Masters.
The voice pauses...
“As to how I came to be in this state, I foolishly asked for wisdom. In response, I was given time to find that wisdom for myself.”
GM Aarvid |
The voice waits for others to join and then addresses you collectively.
As to what happened to the monastery and the other monks...
A petulant student believed he knew better than his master. The student proclaimed that the master unfairly gained power from the Braid of a Hundred Masters, cheapening the path to self-perfection.
He challenged the master to remove the braid and compete against him without its power. The master did so and, in the process, defeated the student.
Once the master had proven himself to the student, the master left the braid at the student’s feet, then turned away, leaving the monastery, never to return. The master took one student with him that day, the young disciple, Ying Pei, while the remaining students squabbled and fought over the braid.
None could call upon the power of the braid and so they left the monastery, one by one, once again seeking their true paths to perfection.
Eventually, only the petulant student and the braid remained. Here he stayed, until the day he died, contemplating the significance behind his master’s actions. Perhaps, through searching for the master and his last disciple, you may uncover the answer to the Braid of a Hundred Masters.”
Ruth Rubani |
While listening to the statue Ruth quickly pulls out her quill, ink and parchment to record the story.
Young disciple named Ying Pei may know how to call upon the power of the Braid.
