GM-8574: Mists of Mwangi (2017) (Inactive)

Game Master Jason Lillis

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st to 5th level characters (Tiers: 1–2, 4–5).

Pathfinder Lugizar Trantos recently returned from the Mwangi Expanse with haunted eyes and a pack full of strange idols. Absalom's famed Blakros Museum purchased his pieces and Lugizar vanished. The strange monkey idols he pulled from the misty jungles of Mwangi carry with them a fell curse, and now their power has laid claim to the museum. Can the Pathfinder Society uncover the source of the curse in time, or will the Blackros Museum be forever lost to the mists of Mwangi?

Grynt awaits to see if Narayan will listen to Copper...

"If he won't listen to you Copper, we may be compelled to go on...according to the map, the museum's office lie through the north door in the hallway ahead...maybe we can find some answers there...from their talk, it would seem they're still capable of fighting if we run into anything..."

Grynt is not comfortable talking this much, but in their current situation, sees no way around it...

Delightful RP, all. Awaiting Narayan's response.

Narayan shakes his head, a look of dejected frustration on his face. Copper Tam, I'm me! Cursse insside! He jabs a thick finger at the museum before plopping down on the steps with a sigh.

Maybe healer help. But maybe healer need sstatue to help. He covers his face with his hands leaving only his enlarged snout poking out. Sso much fog.

But I know Copper Tam. I know friends. I not fight friends. I think insside. But. I follow if need follow.

The pained Halfling follows, too confused for anything more than a grunt.

As he stalks forth, he stops to shakes his head every so often, as if trying to dislodge painful thoughts from his enlarged ears. Of course, you can't dislodge emptiness, and it's a lot to go from a mind full of personality and wit to an empty room where the most dominant force is the empathic pleading of a shrub.

Absent-mindedly (as everything he does is at this point), he strokes Mister Trelawney's petrified form, as if to cling to something familiar.

Sovereign Court

Grynt steps through the door. The mists here congeal into a thick and silvery fog that cools the lungs. Arranged throughout this large hall are exhibits on the funerary traditions of several civilizations, along with preserved corpses arrayed in grim stillness.

A giant warrior looms from the haze, his arms crossed at his chest, his helm solemn and still. Beyond lie sarcophagi of varied designs, and a few glass cases wherein withered dead are held upright by rods and string; grim exhibits of long-dead citizens whose fallen empires were erased an age past.

A placard above this hall reads “The Honored Dead” in blood-red calligraphy.

Through the shroud of mists, you see a closed door on the far north wall.

Do you explore the room further, or turn to another?

Mister Trelawney knows fear and decides to stay as hidden as possible.

By which I mean that the tiny tree will summarily use the Petrify benefit to take 20 on Stealth to appear as nothing more than a shrub inexplicably growing out of his master's hat.

The Gardener, however, does not know fear in any measure, and no longer knows intelligent caution either.

He begins walking straight across the room towards the indicated portal, barely paying attention to the seeming warrior statue.

If I can find my mind... I go.... The half-orc... Trust.

At least part of this disjointed pattern of thought (and the journey across the room) is aided by the persistent empathic urging of Mister Trelawney.

Narayan catches a twitch, the beginnings of a shuffle out of the corner of his eye, and has the barest moment to react when several of the dessicated figures burst to life and begin staggering towards the party!

One is a withered, mummified thing from beneath Osirion’s sands bearing a jeweled scarab on its chest among its spiced wrappings, a scarab seer and warrior-priest of an old Pharaonic age. Another is a hulking skeleton, a towering ancestor of the Kellid race who wields a greatclub fashioned from a mammoth’s ivory tusk. The third is a shrunken, emaciated corpse wrapped in rotten silks, and holding a silvered Qadiran scimitar in its bony fists. Finally, an armored warrior of a long-dead empire, clad in heavy discolored bronze plates and helm, lurches towards you!

Gah, yes, when I went to the map on Saturday I "X"ed out the wrong opponent, and my post reflected that. Mea culpa - the enemies are all down.

As the Qadiran's two halves hit the floor, you take a moment to calm your breathing in the heavy mist.

If you loot the bodies...:

  • One ornate scarab on the chest of the Osirian Scarabe Seer.
  • One masterwork ivory greatclub on the Proto-Kellid War Chief.
  • One masterwork alchemical silver scimitar on the Qadiran Warlord.
  • One longsword and one set of bronze half-plate on the Bronze Legionnaire.

Just a reminder to those of you who are new to Society Organized Play - if you claim an item in the context of the scenario, then you may use it during the scenario. Afterwards, the item "goes away" - the Pathfinder Society collects it at the end of your mission, and you have the option to purchase it for further use before we wrap things up. If you have questions about how this works, let me know!
