GHOSTLIGHT MARSH - 10:05, DAY 9 - Day 2 in the Ghostlight Marsh

Round 2

Another small, high-pitched voice says from the air besides the bridge, "Go away! Or we'll stick you again!"
save vs. Varin: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 success

You know that something invisible is attacking you. Besides doing something creative, the only straightforward thing to do is either run or ready to attack when/if they strike one of your companions again. At that point, you'll know about where they are (can target the right square).

Lorn knows exactly where they are but cannot communicate the exact square, in order to target.

So the companions retreat from the bridge. The invisible fey do not pursue besides hurling anatomically inaccurate insults.

The next day.

"Well I basically have two options for everyone. I can prepare spells of mist and make them as blind as us with a chance to make them easier to find. Or one of you can be bait and I can rain rocks down on the whole place until their dead, fleeing, or buried. If you take the second option I will have a spell to make you tougher prepared as well. The first plan will require a single spell while the second will require more and drain much of my magic. As a result I may need to rest again depending on how things go but we would be rid of the threat once and for all without being cut off from a route of retreat."

Plan A spells- obscuring mist. Plan B spells- bears endurance, enlarge person, stone call x3, burning hands x2, expeditious retreat, and reduce person.

The night before I'll expend as much healing as I have to heal the injured to as high as possible. (Also use lesser restoration to heal Varin's str damage.)

Channel energy(whole group):: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 3, 1, 5) = 19
Healing hex(Varin): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Use my two hex Vulns to cast another hex on each of the still wounded parties.
Healing hex(Varin): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Healing hex(Arlan): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Varin = 49/51 HP

This should leave Varin the only one wounded with 2hp down which he can restore with the rest.

Beltzer chimes in after a long while being silent. "My spirit animal can utilise stardust if I pray to the spirits of the Heavens. It cannot pinpoint the invisible creature but if we bait close to me or my spirit we can light it up like a candle for a short time." 2 Rounds per use, 6 uses Beltzer shrugs. "Though that still goes through with the plan Nerak suggests of using bait, would that be useful though?"

Sadly, I think I still need to draw line of sight to the creature for a round but I don't need a hit roll when I do see it then I can spend my time lighting it up.

Arlan growls: The thought of stumbling around in the mists while these creatures attack again...I like Beltzer's idea. Why don't we draw them out with some of Nerak's spells, then have Bel light them up with his spirit? Creatures like that, that rely on invisiblity to fight--they're all cowards. They'll flee when we can see them. And if they don't, I'll snap their necks.

Beltzer ponders "If anyone could pinpoint them that would be great, even if only for a moment. Other than that I could run in and create a fog cloud then we just rush over the other side. Maybe whatever it is won't chase us past the other side of the bridge? It did not attack us in our sleep. Downside is I don't know if it can see in the fog, if it can we are rather stuck at that point."

The fog will blind us all, we won't be able to help each other in a fight. The creatures could remain together and pick us off one by one. My stone spell will make it difficult to move about. Overlaying a fog with it would put us at a great disadvantage. This is why I prefer one or the other. Granted Beltzer's plan has merit but he would need to expose himself, personally I rather not allow our healer to be a target or bait. Still that is not my choice so I will leave it at that."

Okay this might be a bit meta here, but since we already have concealment to hit these things I can cast darkness around people so they have concealment to hit us right? If it does not work like that or someone has an objection to dim light, do say, this shouldn't be as debilitating as my fog cloud idea.

Beltzer presses his hand to the ground asking the shadows bound in crevasses to dance for him. The shadows form out of the ground into 4 floating orbs, they surround Arlan and Varin in a defensive perimeter.

One atop each of them and then two off to the sides so they stay within the 10-foot requirements. 20 feet of each orb goes down by 1 illumination level. I assume that's normal to dimly light for the 20% concealment on Varin and Arlan.

Okay what just happened there? I guess I'll use that to my advantage.

Beltzer once more readies a stardust effect, since somehow something he did revealed the creatures. He couldn't both pinpoint them and cast his spell at the same time but now he had an idea. The creatures appeared to be standing and had melee weapons so they had to get close.

They made a break towards his direction, so, Beltzer gets the orbs of darkness to scan the bridge towards him They can move 100ft. As soon as one of their blurred features appears, Beltzer will let loose his readied stardust on it.

Ready stardust, trigger if I make out the outline of one. Move up a bit so I'm in range of potentially where they might be standing now. Scan the orbs across as a free action till they reach me.

Stardust: the shaman causes stardust to materialize around one creature within 30 feet. This stardust causes the target to shed light as a candle, and it cannot benefit from concealment or any invisibility effects. The creature takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls and sight-based Perception checks. This penalty to attack rolls and Perception checks increases by 1 at 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter, to a maximum of –6 at 20th level. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to half the shaman's level (minimum 1). Sightless creatures cannot be affected by this ability. The shaman can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier.

Arlan grabs the prone form of the fey, strips it of any weapons or valuables and unceremoniously hurls the body into the abyss spanned by the bridge.

We are here with permission of the Council! You should've run when you had the chance!

Varin sighs and slumps slightly, staring around dejectedly. He had done nothing in that combat merely held his ground and the huge slab of steel before him, hoping to draw some attention. Nothing came for him however and he felt kind of foolish.

"How is everyone fairing?"

"Sorry, sweetie...", says Lys in an ashamed voice, petting her crossbow gently. "You know how I am, sometimes. I'll get you that dwarven machine oil the next time I get the chance, I promise.", she continues talking to the crossbow, as she looks up. "What?", she shrugs, non-chalantly. Slinging it over her shoulder, she smiles devilishly.

"I'm fine, Rin. Nerak, is your eyesight back?" A worried tone leaves Lys' mouth, as she leaves the darkness. "Torag's belly button, my eyes aren't used to that sort of treatment." Removing her hat, she takes a look at the remainder of the way, and finally sees Varin's state. "You've looked better. Though we finally have the answer to the question whether your head is harder than a rock.", she jokes with a sympathetic smile. "No point sitting around, gentlemen and floating sediments."

So, it looks like Nerak's spells did a total of 19 damage, not 23. 6,7,6, right? Also, I was not in the area of effect for the first stone call. I double moved up after it. So I think I should be at 39, not 29. Varin was down 2 at the start of the battle, so i believe he should be down 21 instead of 23. It's possible I missed something, though.

H.hex:

Beltzer moves up towards the two fighters. "Good work out there, hopefully, you aren't feeling too much of that. Let me share some of it.

Beltzer waits for the life link to draw some of their wounds to him then uses the life spirits to heal all three of them.

Taking into account what Arlan said above, starting hp after LL:
44/52 hp Arlan
35/51 hp Varin
30/40 hp Beltzer

channel: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

Beltzer lets one more pulse of Life Link to draw towards him.

Ending total
52/52 hp Arlan
50/51 hp Varin
35/40 hp Beltzer

"That's a bit better, I hope we aren't caught in between a rock and a hard place again! What were those two? I have never heard of creatures that become more visible the darker it is. Were they beings of light or something I wonder...?" Beltzer shakes his head. "Though time for musings later I guess, we should press on? He says agreeing with Lys.

Standing in front of the door, Lys gives it a long glance. "Don't suppose it'd be trapped?" She sighs. "And I forgot my lockpicks in Lastwall..." Staring at the door, she gives it a hopeful nudge.

"You know what, I've had it. For people trying to help us, they sure aren't terribly helpful. Can you two, you know, show the door who's boss?", she asks, pointing towards Arlan and Varin's weapons. "I'll sit here and enjoy the fruits of your hard labour."

Arlan gives the door a glance, searching for any signs of danger.

Varin nods, stepping up and taking his hammer in hand, causing it to double in size as he stands there idly twisting it in his hands. He frowns, tapping it off the ground as he begins to eye up the door for possible weaknesses.

Knowledge Engineering1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Nice...

Arlan spies no sign of danger.

Varin finds no possible weaknesses.

Assuming everyone decides who's coming--I think we should all go together.

Arlan pats Varin on the shoulder and steps past him, shining the lantern on the door.

We are here with the blessings of Mossmoon and Silvermane, and the Council of Thorns. We seek the relics within to destroy a foe that threatens us all. We come in peace and will not be denied.

With that, Arlan tries to open the door.
