You don't need to cast the identify spell to ID magic items. The spell just acts as a detect magic with a +10 bonus to your spellcraft. So I just need the DC for the spellcraft check to ID the magic item.

@Nox Yes, the other double doors open out to a wrap around balcony.

@Nerak So roll it! Tell me what DC you hit. Roll high.

If your going to be a lone wizard with limited resources in the wilderness, you stack your mods.

Edit-Well I guess in this case it wasn't needed. Still better safe then unknown. x)

Saturday morning I leave for a week on business with only phone access to this account.

So, I cannot GM post. Feel free to RP until I return.

I'm home. Are you still with me?

We've restarted combat. The map is complicated, so ask clarification questions here in Discussion.

Welcome back. That is a complicated map!

Not sure where the ogres are, don't see them on the map but my rolls were bad enough that I would probably miss anyway.

Willing to follow the leads of the melee folks on how you want to deal with this.

Pretty much. But the AP is ready for that.

Nerak

Why do you think Stone Call destroys the images?

Area spells affect you normally and do not destroy any of your figments. Spells and effects that do not require an attack roll affect you normally and do not destroy any of your figments.

I'm no expert but pretty sure power attack and vital strike can not be stacked. As a rule only one attack option can be used at a time from what I understand.

* Saltmarsh *

I'm alright with stacking them. Power Attack affects bonuses. Vital Strike affects number of dice.

Lots of monsters have both...

Male Human (Ulfen) Transmuter 6 | HP 48/48 | Augment 7/7 | 1st 5/5, 2nd 5/5, 3rd 4/4

I just thought it was strange that you basically have one feat invalidate half of the other by stacking them. Power attack decreases attack but vital strike gets rid of the decreases so your just getting benefits without any of the penalty. So basically it's acting like a scaling weapon specialization in that case at the cost of a single feat instead of multiples. By using vital strike and following it's tree it will only increase because of the scaling. To get the same benefits without the penalty otherwise would cost more then a few feats. By why of weapon specialization which adds the same benefits without penalty and stacks with everything. In fact it is better then weapon specialization used that way because power attack benefits from the two handed bonus while weapon specialization does not.

Monsters have both because vital strike is a single action while power attack can be used in a full round action which vital can not. Monsters CR are based off fighting parties not individuals so their attack tend to be higher in such builds. Taking a -1 to -5 in exchange for double that amount in damage is worth it when you have multiple attacks. It's better to use vital when you only have one attack sense it preserves your accuracy while adding to your damage potential. Basically it turns your single attack into a full round without the bonuses of a full if you follow the tree. That's probably why the requirement of vital strike is the BAB when you earn your first multiple attack. The vital tree tends to follow that same trend.

I was looking a bit at the various stuff on the board and I've not found an offical Paizo word on it, but I have not seen anyone argue that it is in a viable tactic based completely on the wording.

By RAW, Power Attack + Vital Strike is legal.

Sorry, guys, long and harrowing week for me.

I'm still reading the game, and I am loving the fact we've picked up pace and RP! Go us!

Lys isn't feeling all too well about this particular fight, but she'll do her job. Even if she might get broody.

Regarding Vital Strike and Power Attack, I am certain they do stack and can be used at the same time, but the damage from Power Attack isn't multiplied.

Then again, the numbers of From seem perfectly legal - 7 from Strength, 2 from +2, 1 from training and 2 from specialisation, before featuring the PA.

Beatsticks beat good with stick, we do. *coughs SAD-ly*

* Saltmarsh *

Hi team

What would you like to do? The Fort is clear. The orcs are supposed to attack you when you exit, but I don't monsters stupid. If they were scared of the ogres, then they'll be more scared of the crew who wiped them out.

I haven't read the next book, but enough clues as to what to do have been described. I think there's downtime between mods.

cheers

Lol, gotta love diety specific gear. Alas a Cleric of Erastil and a Warpriest of Torag won't fit that bill.

Hmm, I mean to be honest, it's up to you if they attack. It's not exactly stupid for them to do so at this point. Even if two powers clash, both the winner and the loser typically come out of such a fight weakened and worse for wear. A cunning weaker opponent would take advantage of this.

So if you wanna have the Orcs betray us, I'm down for it. It's honestly reasonable given the species and the amount of dwarves in the party and we were not exactly the nicest bunch.

That said, Wulfrum would like very much to just leave the fort behind them. Simply toss a bit of clothing from their boss or even a decapitated head at the feat of the Orc leaders and walk away silently letting that thinly veiled threat be enough of a discouragement to break their pact.

Hey guys - I was quite busy over the weekend, and I'll be travelling during the week. I'll try and get something up on the evenings, but it's bound to be short.

Regarding the game - Is the next module assuming that we start from Trunau? If so, I'm definitely interested in us getting back there, and preparing for whatever the giants have to throw at us a lifetime of peace.

Lys is definitely not interested in killing the orcs at the minute, but she would if there's no other choice. Frankly, I think I've had enough combat for a bit, so I'd definitely go for the next AP!

Zekal would consider leaving a threat to Trunau to grow an unappealing prospect? Will they be taking over the fort if left alone? Still he would not be the one to pick the fight.

Looks like he had some cool items, most of which will make nice piles of gold at some point.

Don't we have two geodes that make a map, is that important to whats next?

* Saltmarsh *

OK Skimmed the next book.

You can return to Trunau and follow the rock geode from there.

* Saltmarsh *

OK. Players.

The slow pace of this game has really bothered me for a long while. Plus, we're nearing the levels where I'm not a big fan of Pathfinder, so I'm thinking of ending the game here.

You can find another GM to take you through Book 3.

Hey - no sweat.

First of all, thank you for giving this game the attention it had for as long as you had. The initial scenes and the RP in the beginning, (Almost four years back now) are still one of my all-time favourite RP experiences!

Secondly, thank you for carrying with the game until the end of the book. At the very least, the ending of an arc provides at least some closure for the story, and I appreciate that.

Thirdly, I apologise for my own slow pace with this game. I admit, I could've been more active myself. So, once again, I understand, and I wish you all the best and thank you for running this game for as long as you had. Good luck in running in the future.

Finally - to the rest of the players. I'm currently on a work trip, but I'll be home by the end of the week. I intend to at least try and get another GM to run the game for us (as I unfortunately lack the time to run a game at the minute)

Do let me know if you're interested in playing (again, if we find a GM) by the end of the week, and we can look for one together. Hopefully, we can all be a bit more active, since the new guys would be starting with a new book, and you can enjoy building up your characters'... character even further!

And again, if you aren't interested, I've had great time playing with you, both old and new faces, and all the best!

Thank you!

DM Jubal

I completely understand, I am sad to see you go but I get it. GMing gets less fun the higher the level gets I have found. As Lys said, it is good that you finished the book with us.

I have been thinking for the last few days and don't think I can add GMing another, 4th, game to my workload at the moment. I did consider it but I also have a job and family.

I would be interested in moving forward if we can find another GM to take things over. If not it was nice to get the chance to play what I did with you folks.

Ryan

Thanks for your hard work and dedication DM.

Sadly as one of the slowest players I think I will have to leave with the DM. Right now my time is at a premium and the site takes perverse pleasure in messing with my updates. I do not want to hold back the group or give less then the best performance ether.

I have enjoyed the game, but it think I’d also bow out. I’m in another Giantslayer game that’s just finishing book 1, and staying in this one would just give me more and more spoilers for the other. At first I didn’t think it’d be an issue, I’ve had second thoughts, and I think I’m going to limit myself to no more than one PBP of a given AP at any one time going forward.

I’m going to run a 5e Middle Earth Adventure if you are interested.

I’ll tailor the game to the player-heroes created.
