Any idea what level the quest is for?
I generally play skill monkeys or mages. I will be looking closely at Rogue, Wizard, Sorcerer and look over the Bard. If I go Rogue, I might make them a detective.
At some point in the playtest, I plan to experiment with the multiclassing system to see what can be done to emulate some of the hybrid classes like Investigator and Bloodrager. I also plan to see how good of an Eldrich Knight or Magus can be built using the Playtest Rules.

I haven't gotten to check out anything that hasn't been posted to a blog here on the site, so I might change my mind once the rules drop if there's something I just have to try, but realistically I'll be happy to gap-fill whatever's needed.

I've been tossing up a couple of characterss.
One a PFSv2 version of Khellek the historian. Probably a child progidy - perhaps the result of a liason with one of his students.
The other is a ranger (yeah, I like skills) who hunts owlbears for the Blackros museum.
But who knows... neither bard nor ranger have had class details for them yet.
I really like Paladins too.

I forget, do we have any word on what (if anything) will carry over between Playtest scenarios and PF2 proper?
Joli, The Artist |
There are Play Test Points that you get from participating. These can be used to buy certain advantages when PF2 launches. One of the promised things is to start a character at level 2.
I don’t think it has been defined how many are earned in a session. I expect based on RSP and other things that GMing will get you more points than playing. I’ve been told that those who have done Play Test at conventions have gotten Play Test Points for that.
GM Aerondor |
Really, I'd not count on getting anything other than the experience of the playtest for four weeks. All the rest is gravy.
Woodenman |
Not really sure what I’d be interested in playing. I’ve always wanted to play a Druid but I didn’t really find the PF1 version of them very interesting. I’m eagerly awaiting their blog as I’ve been hearing lots of interesting whispers about how they are going to work this time around.

Whoops! I lost track of this and just now remembered I'd never checked to see if I got picked. Yeah! I'm in! Thanks, Redalia!
As to what I'd like to play, I'm open to almost anything. Most of my early PF1 characters were martials, then I switched to support & skills, and only recently tried full-casters. A sorcerer sounds interesting, but if we need a martial in the party, I'm happy to repeat my learning process and start there too.

I've got them and am busy working through making a rogue. (Aerondor here)
Rather than clutter up my alias list with another PT one, I'll reuse an existing one, and then eventually delete the 1501 character. At least, that is the plan.
Cwethan's Iconic |
I was gonna hold off and fill in any group roles as needed, but I can pick sooner if need be :)
_Experiment Three-Two-Two |
I think I have my CS more or less right now. But its my very first, so if someone wanted to go over it and look for obvious mistakes that would be very much appreciated.

@Experiment
Looks good to me. There were a few minor things I saw that you may want to change.
“Age: A lady does tell, and a gentleman wouldn't ask. ”
I believe you wanted that to say “A lady doesn’t tell...”
Street Urchin: You gain the Pickpocket skill feat
(It isn’t listed with your feats.)
It would be good if you put the numbers in for your skills. I wouldn’t both listing signature skills at first level since it doesn’t matter.
Example:
Intimidate U +0
Society T +0
You have a couple of B.B. Code formatting errors around your total bulk and armor proficiency. Probably want to fix those.
_Experiment Three-Two-Two |
Thanks. Hopefully fixed that up now. I'm leaving signature skills listed as it is more work to remove than keep in, and it doesn't hurt to work on my templates now.
Tsvy |
Here's my shot at a barbarian. If y'all wouldn't mind looking him over to see if I missed anything, I'd appreciate it. I used Hero Lab Online for character generation, but given that they just released all this, it's unsurprising that there's a few bugs still.

I tried putting together a strength based melee Wizard, but I fear the hit points are too low. The character only had 12 hit point. I was using Elf to get the weapon proficiencies, it would work slightly better as human but then I don’t get any weapons until 2nd level.
It feels really weird that we don’t get a general feat at first level.
Has anyone found anything indicating if Wizards who buy the armor proficiency can cast in various types of armor?
Cwethan's Iconic |
I'm pretty sure Word of Seifter was that armor didn't interfere if you were proficient (in one of the comments threads during the previews), but I'll look through the book to see if there's anything else on the topic
Joli, The Artist |
I am still working on the details, but my current plan is a female elven Wizard (Universal), background of Scholar.
Trained skills: Acrobatics, Arcana, Craft, Occult, Religion, Society,
The Avatar will change later.
I’m willing to shift skills around a bit to fill a hole.

No general feat at level 1 is a pain and odd, given so many general feats are level 1. I think you can trade a class feat for a general one if you wanted, but I can't find why I think of it.
Cwethan's Iconic |
Yeah, that's a change I hope they make. Especially with classes (like the druid I'm working on) that don't choose their feat at level one, but instead pick another CHARACTER DEFINING option that happens to come with a feat, it leaves me feeling that I've made fewer impactful choices.

@Woodenman
It would be cool to see the new Bard in play. We could also use a sword and board fighter since the fighter is the only one that gets Attacks of Opportunity at first level.

As we're getting closer to start date, there are a few things I want to bring up with everyone.
1. One of the things I really want to test is how the secret rolls work. To make this happen, if something is supposed to be a secret roll and you roll it for yourself, I'll need to ignore your roll. I also need to request that you guys please respect any spoilers marked as 'secret rolls'.
2. Please do not hide basic mechanics in spoilers. This applies both to gameplay and also to your profiles. Spoilers are reserved for secret rolls, big blocks of rolls (like initiative rolls), and things that should only be read conditionally(i.e. Parry/riposte in PF1). I prefer the mechanics to be interspersed, like the following:
Anastasia lifted her sword and swung it at the hideous monster.
attack, bless: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
However, her sword passed over the creature's head.
3. We're all learning the new system, so we're all going to make mistakes. I want us to all help each other out. And yes, that does mean I want all of you to point out when I make an error. Long discussions of rules should take place in the discussion thread, not gameplay. And let's all be kind and gentle in how we point out errors, and happily accept correction as helping us come to terms with the new system.
4. My PM box is open to you, if there is anything you want to discuss that you for some reason do not want to bring up in a more public way.
5. Please include in your header your AC and saves, as well as skills for monster ids, since these are secret rolls, and whatever skill you are likely to be using as initiative. Things that you need to keep count of but that don't belong in your header, like spells for the day, please put at the very top of your profile.
I may even need to ask you to change some of the above requests as the game progresses.

However, her sword passed over the creature's head.
Two questions on this:
Can I put the botting instructions that I typically create in a single spoiler?
Is there any problems with always doing the same sequence of rolls rather than using preview?
I tend to cut & paste the attacks (often directly from my botting section) so the BBCode would already include the damage. I would greatly prefer being able to copy all parts as a chunk.
Redelia |
I would prefer that the botting instructions be a heading without a spoiler, but I'm not going to insist on that.
I'm fine with you including damage even if you know it didn't hit, if that's what you're asking. I would still ask you to preview and roll your extra damage if you know it was a critical hit, or else to edit the critical damage in if you post and it's clearly a critical hit.
Joli, The Artist |
I can leave the botting without spoiler. It isn’t that big a deal.
Yes, I did mean leave the damage even if I expect that I didn’t hit.
With respect to criticals, will we always know the enemy AC? Without knowing that, we will not always know if it is a critical hit. The easy solutions are we know the AC or we always have critical damage as well.
As an example:
Joli brings her short bow up and fires at the retreating mite. “You are the one who is DOOMED!”
Short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Piercing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
If critical, deadly d10: 1d6 + 1d10 ⇒ (1) + (4) = 5
Joli, The Artist |
I’m fine with that. Gives me more time to get my table of Solstice Scar C organized.
Checking my own character, I found that I kept forgetting to add level to things such as AC and Saving Throws. Hopefully I’ve got it right now, although I wouldn’t mind someone checking my work.
