Fiend series | Shackles

The two bodies dumped outside are both alive but unconscious, their faces pulpy and bloody, with splits lips, massive bruises, and swollen eyelids. Both exude a strong aroma of beer and sweat.

The pathfinders enter the building. Inside the Horned Helm, the PCs find an unfriendly crowd. The crowd immediately starts up cat calls and hurls drunken insults their way.

The bartender is the worst. This enormous, bearded man wearing leather armor and conspicuously missing his right arm is the loudest and most vile—every insult he slings is met with raucous laughter from the crowd, who in turn insult the bartender’s insults and then hurl more at the pathfinders.

The temperature inside the Horned Helm is stiflingly hot—nearly 100° F. This is because of two enormous iron furnaces crammed full of coal, wood, and anything else flammable that radiate the scorching fires of Hell themselves. Most of the crowd are sweating excessively, which only adds to the room’s dank stench.

Once the room settles down a bit (though it never fully settles—just passes out), you spot a man seated at the bar, with only the profile of his left side visible to you, who matches the description of Hjort

Pandora points at the drunken fellows cloths. "Perhaps you can use those to blend in." Looking at the oders "Remember, our main goal is to discover what has happened with Rognald Skagni." and so she goes into the tavern.

As they go in and the Ulfen start to shout, the woman gives back sensual and provocative smiles to the aggressive Ulfen ones. As she advances to the counter, if anyone approaches her she places her hands on the breast soft but resolved and pushes the Ulfen back to his sit whispering "Not now viking."

When she gets to the counter she asks for a cup of brevage to the bartender. Not paying attention to Hjort, she pushes the first note over the counter as well as a Wayfinder over it. She takes the cup, still not giving a look to the Ulfen and addresses the bartender. "I've heard a man is paying every Pathfinder death here around. Can you point me out whom is the stout viking? Me and my colleagues have some money to collect."

Roderick enters with the others, but remains mostly silent. He will nod or growl simple responses if ask any questions. He keeps his eyes open for any others in the crowd watching them with overly long intent.

Merida drops her furs altogether from the heat, and winks at the occasional Ulfen who cat calls her.

Merida follows Pandora's lead, and takes the seat opposite the target, putting her bosom to work. "She says 'colleague,' but I see myself more as a...free...agent." Since Pandora's working the information gathering, Merida decides to focus on fluffing the Viking up.

The onearmed bartender quickly crouches down behind the bar, either to grab a hidden weapon or to hide in case it comes to a fight.

I am confused why are we suddenly being attacked. We made our good bluff checks, had a fair excuse to be looking for Hjort and made an effort to disguise. The man was acting like he fears the people around discovers he is Hjort.

I would suggest the others to abstain from attacking until we know if they are calmed down and restrained from being rude with us, this is they get fascinated, because combat breaks 'fascinate'.
We can for example delay and pack together in the same initiative to help posting order.

Although Pandora has fascinated one thug the other one is not pacified that easily. He draws his axe and strikes at Pandora! Roderick is just a bit quicker and he thrusts his spear at the man. Both miss their intended targets.

The attacks distract the fascinated man and he attacks Merida! His attack misses because the barbarian was prepared for anything. Most of the other people in the bar quickly leave the scene, not ready for an armed combat.

Off course some patrons are just to drunk to care, eight of them think it is a great idea to attack the pathfinders! Meanwhile the redhead cowers beside Pandora "Help me! I don't want to die!"

The brawlers quickly close in on the pathfinders, although Roderick tries to prevent that with the great reach of his spear he can not prevent it AoO missed. Luckily for the heroes only one brawler manages to give Roderick an uppercut 2 damage The others all miss.

And at the same time moves to one side and starts casting a spell holding his buckler up to defend herself from the incoming attacks. Will be sleep, if they don't break my concentration, sigh

Pandora starts casting a spell and the man next to her uses the opportunity to attack her. He misses, probably distracted by the threatening longspear of Roderick.

Ryskovich bashes his buckler in the crotch of the drunkard next to him, causing the man to shriek in pain.

Roderick, thanks, I forgot that. Just one minute has passed since you drank the mutagen. Remember that these are not temporary hit points, so your damage stays when the mutagen has ran it's course.

Thanks for the update GMG! Can I take the decision of where to place it exactly before my next turn? The sleep is 1 round casting time so it will only take effect at the beginning of my next turn, I might still be concentration-broken and mobs moved :(

Three men attack Merida and all hit! 7 damage. Pandora is attacked by one of the thugs, who misses. Quinray is well guarded by Falinar's shield! Two of the drunkards try to take out Ryskovich, one of the swings passes miles above the halfling's head, the other connects 3 damage. All of the swings aimed at Falinar and Roderick miss!

Falinar, next time please state who you will protect. If you don't I will randomize (although that turned out nicely this round)

She then draws her shortbow, sets an arrow on it and fires it at the thug just in front. The right green guy. And I generate an AoO from the squared thug if he does not fall sleep
