Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
I am concidering buying a Wayfinder, but that can wait. :)
Ill just hang out at the lodge, maybe asking around (with my earlier check) for information and grabing a small meal. I dont really have anything to do.
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Fortunately you can get an extra straw with that meal. Barlor was shopping for one. :)
Aram Barong |
Aram embarassedly heads back to the hall when he realizes they'er not going to Skelg's place just yet. He spends the time watching Zaryn's training with his flail and picking up the chairs around the table. Despite his large frame Aram is quite weak so he's been trying to build himself up. He's too shy to talk to Zaryn.

When Maps returns he's decked out with an entirely new outfit, with the most interesting item being a dark bladed guisarme.

Zaryn Carolingian |
Zaryn notices the cold-iron guisarme and chuckles, I see you have decided to upgrade your weapon, cold iron will come in handy if we face fiend or fey. I also prefer Cold Iron, at least until I can get some Starmetal. Let us be off then.

The party reconvenes at the grand lodge and in no time at all makes it to Parkview Street in the Ivy District. True to its name, Parkview Street runs the entire length of the district's famous park.
Standing like a tomb in a flower garden, Greydog Manor is easy to find. Six-foot-high walls surround the massive, stone building and an immense iron gate flanked by granite statues of hunting dogs stands open, offering access to the interior. Looking along the street, it is clear that locals give the estate a wide berth. The stone walls seem to give a slight chill to the air, which is not entirely unpleasant on such a hot day.
The building is about forty by forty feet, the courtyard about the same. The fence buts the building to form the courtyard.
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
Not even noticing the chill (Cold Resistance), I'll simply go up an knock, thinking the others shuttering a bit and attempting to wrap their cloaks a ittle tighter as some sort of mortal custom, I'll simply go up to the door (or gate) and and knock.
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Compared to the street outside, the courtyard is is cool and shady. Dead leaves are scattered across the flagstones and the granite steps where two Ulfen warriors stand. Each man wears a chain shirt and a surcoat bearing the Taldan crest and carries the traditional imperial guard longaxe.
The guards respond to Ignatious's knock on the gate sternly. "Skelg is ill. He wants no visitors."

"Indeed. We are sent to aid his illness, by a friend. I am certain we can help, we just need to speak with him."
Maps |
Knowledge check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Unfamiliar with Taldor, Maps doesn't notice anything odd about the two guards.
This man, using the word loosely, is correct. Maps says, nodding towards Ignatious. We have been sent by friends to help.
Zaryn Carolingian |
Zaryn is not trained in such pleasantries, So he knows nothing, Zaryn waits. If all else fails he will try and intimidate them (in a nice way)
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
"Friends, you say?" The guard says as the other one asks, "Sent to help him?". He stands and repeats, "Skelg said no visitors. He would rather die in peace."
sense motive DC 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 add two to your roll if you got the spoiler above.
Barlor |
"Hrm?" Barlor grunts to himself.
sense motive 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Sensing something is slightly amiss, his hand drifts to his club, and he stiffens his shield arm. His faithful boar, Ing, catches this subtle shift and himself lets out a grunt, nosing at Barlor's boot.
Zaryn Carolingian |
I'll take 10 on my sense motive to make it a 19
Zaryn seems pretty agrivated when he notices that their trying to give them the rope around You two are full of it, snakes lie better then you. You're ether trying to let him die and steal his gold or something else. We're going to see Skelg, with your help or and he draws his heavy flail Without
Take 10 on intimidate so 15.
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
Im a little confussed. Is that the DC {5}we need to beat?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
Placing a gentle hand on Zaryn's shoulder, "It would probably not be wise to do this in the middle of the streets, my friend", anticipating a fight to come. "Perhaps, should the mortals not listent to reason, we can attempt to find a "back door""?
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Aye, 'tis an opposed roll and they rolled poorly so an easy DC
"All right," the guard whimpers with a growl. "Just like you city folk to get all violent and threatening." Actually, the Ulfen warrior tradition is to get physical so Zaryn's threats seems to have worked. The way their flitting glances move from flail to falchion to glaive and back to flail seems to confirm it. Their breathing quickens and the grip on their weapons tighten nervously. "Come in then. You can visit the dying Skelg. We will take you in."
One guard waves to the door, the other moves to lock the gate. "If we're not watching it I gotta lock it," he responds if anyone asks. Which he will do when the last person enters. The granite hunting dogs carved above the gate stare passively out ignoring the exchange below.
Ignatius:
Zaryn Carolingian |
Zaryn smirks, and enters into the Court Yard. He turns to Ignatious and whispers in his ear. "I hate resorting to threats but these guys are clowns, they are impostors or under the effects of a curse of some sorts. I called them on their bluff and thought it was the best action, if you want to try and parlay just give me a heads up. I have no problem submitting to a Cleric of Sarenrae and their wisdom."
Barlor |
Barlor follows with his club drawn, but generally nonthreatening. With Ing at his heels, he strolls casually behind the apparently more concerned members of the party.
"Humm... Nice place." He mutters to himself. "Dreary as a ghoul cave though." he adds with a shiver.

"Oh, so the supposed son of a goddess doesn't know what's going on, eh?" Aram growls through clinched teeth. "Zaryn sensed something strange about these men, as do I," Aram was surprised at his words, but for some reason it felt so right. Ignatious' claims to divinity had been simmering inside him ever since they first met.
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
The first guard locks the gate when everyone is inside then moves to the front of the line to open the door. When he is next to the half orc with ritualistic tattoos and scaring. He looks at his partner who closes with Zaryn lifts his axe and swings it over his head.
Time for initiative: if you get get above a 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 please also post your first round actions.
Zaryn Carolingian |
"How do you know this? Did I miss something?" as they walk through.
Zaryn looks kind of shocked at this "didn't you notice their uniforms were on backwards, no respectable Talden, even Ulfen, would dare wear them like that. Something is up, like I said, they are ether impostors or they are bewitched."
"Oh, so the supposed son of a goddess doesn't know what's going on, eh?" Aram growls through clinched teeth. "Zaryn sensed something strange about these men, as do I,"
Zaryn puts his hand on Aram shoulder, trying to calm him down. In a compassionate voice, Son, I know his ways may seem strange, but some Aasimar are like that. He is not being aloof, he is just being ignorant of how his words effect us. He is not intentionally doing it. I can understand that you're upset, if I didn't know anybetter I would guess he is self-righteous jerk, but I know he is not. I have a sister who is one of his kind, but she is far more assimilated then this fellow. Never the less, at least I owe him respect as he is a Representative of the Dawnflower."

Maps' axe flips end over end, landing behind the second guard as he ducks.
Zaryn becomes a clanking blur as the chain of his massive two headed flail bites onto the first guard's battle axe and rips it from his grip. The guard is a little perplexed, as a bit of foam appears at his lip.
Barlor charges the second guard, the grissled boar right behind him. His swing uselessly gore the air by the guard. Ing's tusks fair much better.
The guard returns with his great-axe at for the reckless dwarf. A lustful glee enters his eye with the start of battle. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 damage:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3.
The first guard takes a step away from the threatening glaive and flail. Then reaches down and picks up his great axe. Without a target he holds it ready and motions for someone brave enough to step up.
Aram seeing the opening steps up and sends swirling globs of light at the gaurd. The guard's faces disappears in a colorful blur 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 and when it clears he is lying in a heap on the ground.
