Hironaki |
Hironaki points to the north. "There is a concealed door, and a hidden switch next to it."
He approaches the door and switch, examining them closely.
Perception T20: 20 + 6 = 26
"Shall I operate the switch?"
Salouris |
Salouris too finds Uliyara's story fascinating. "So it would seem most of the dwarves escaped this. Thanks to the Inheritor."
"And a Tian man helped them?" The nagaji's posture straightens up in pride. "This 'Hao Jin'. I think I recall some of my fellows back at the Grnad Lodge mentioning him and his fabled tapestry. The society claimed it several years ago, did they not? Perhaps we could make contact once more?"
"Be careful!" he calls to Hironaki regarding the hidden lever.
Wulfgar Ivarson |
Wulfgar, entertained by the story, smiles and listens carefully, his right eye rolling back into his head so I looks white. As Fuzzfoot encourages Hironaki to open the hidden door, Wulfgar nods his head in agreement "Yes comrrrrades let us be goink in secrrrret door. It is more excitink that way, da."
GM Baerlie |
The guards of Naldak’s Point kept weapons and armor in reserve, hidden behind the secret door. The residents cleared out most of the cache, but did not have time to claim everything. A masterwork heavy steel shield and an ivory-handled heavy crossbow lie discarded on the floor.
Wulfgar Ivarson |
if no one wants to use the items Wulfgar can carry them, but probably will not use either, if he's the one shooting the crossbow were all in trouble
hhhmmm, just in case Wulfgar looks intently at the two items for a moment casting detect magic on them, then he picks them up and attaches them to his pack, explaining to the group. "Gorrrrum is not apprrrrovink of leavink weapons for no use, I will be carryink them, da comrrrrades." Once he has stored the items he nods at the pathfinders letting them know he is ready to go.
Hironaki |
Hiro peers at the crossbow, taking a minute to examine it. then examines the shield.
Using Object Reading as detect magic.
GM Baerlie |
Wulfgur proceed further into the ice ruins. A single hallway leads to the south into a big chamber. Thousands of icicles cover the ceiling of this cylindrical chamber. The outside edge forms a perfect circular curve, cutting into stone without mark of chisel or tool, impossibly smooth. Only places where ice flows over the stone, or where the structures have collapsed, mar the perfect precision of the cylinder. The remains of workshops and living spaces, still furnished, peak through holes in the cylindrical void. At the southern and western edges of the cavern, large portions of the stone and ice have collapsed, cutting into the immense void with piles of rubble.
All that remains of Naldak’s Point is the ruined foyer, a crumbling guard post, and an empty chamber of rock and ice. Hao Jin’s magic transported most of the town into her magical tapestry demiplane. The edge of the spell sheared through walls, doors, furniture, and stone with perfect precision.
Wulfgar Ivarson |
moving very carefully across the ice, into the big chamber. Wufgar, having cast light on his great sword, follows the eastern wall as it comes to a corner and becomes a northern wall, he calls back to the pathfinders, "Come comrrrrades therrrre are doorrrrs to explorrrre, da?" as he walks into the frozen ruin he keeps a careful eye out.

Salouris |
Salouris strolls through the abandoned rooms, picking at the documents left behind in the dwarves' exodus. "It's a bit eerie, how untouched this settlement is. Just froen over and left to sit, forever..."
He moves towards the door to the northeast and opens it.
Wulfgar Ivarson |
Wulfgar, not seeing anything of value, turns to the pathfinders and asks "Well comrrrrades, shall we be lookink into the other doorrrrs we are findink, da" he then heads back out on to the great ice sheet and heads to the door facing east and attempting to opens it to look inside.
if he is successful opening door this is his perception roll
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
GM Baerlie |
Wuflgar opens the door. The room is equipped with a round table and chairs, a fire place and several cupboards. In the middle of the room he sees a dwarf, frozen in a block of ice, staring at you. He wears a hexagonal hematite beard clasp with a single dwarven rune inscribed on the face.
Nimgaji |
"It seems not all the dwarves were so lucky." Nimgaji grimaces at the unfortunate sight.
Salouris |
Salouris mutters a quick prayer to Iomedae for the dwarf. "May he have found peace in the planes above."
His eyes tighten as he gazes at the fallen figure's beard clasp. "Does anyone speak dwarven? I'm not sure what that rune means. Perhaps a clan sigil?"
Fuzzfoot Hogan |
"I do speak dwarven, and many other languages. In fact, I tend to be a student of all forms of communication!"
If knowing dwarven is not enough...
Linguistics: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (16) + 7 + (2) = 25
Hironaki |
Hiro moves up to the ice, wiping away the frost and peering at the dwarf. "Do you think we could thaw him out of the ice? Perhaps he holds some clue, or maybe is even in some sort of stasis."
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
GM Baerlie |
Fuzzfoot tries to recall information about the rune, but it is an old rune. He recognizes the rune for one of King Gutheran’s family lines. This rune served as the basis for the modern dwarven run for "royalty" or "king's blood".
When Hironaki enters the room suddenly the ice block explodes and the undead dwarf attacks.

As I interpret the map only the floor covered in light blue/white is frozen, the parts in greay are stone or tiles I think. You can move normally in the room with the dwarf, but only half outside.
Salouris knows that the dwarf seems to be some kind of a ghoul, a variant which has a frozen aura (cold damage within 10 feet) and it spreads ghoul fever.
Will DC9: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 = 15 channel resistance +2
Genki, Fuzzfoot and Salouris attack the frozen dwarf and hit. Wulfgur tries to harm the dwarf with energy, but the dwarf shakes off most of the damage.
Uliyara starts to play her flute again. inspire courage +1, I added the additional damage to Fuzzfoot's attack, not sure if the +1 becomes a +2 when it's a critical hit. Does somebody know?
The dwarf is almost down, but he still tries to bite 1d4 ⇒ 1 Genki, but his teeth snap only air.

Ok, thanks! The dwarf does not have a DR so all B/P/S is fine.
Hironaki attacks the dwarf and finally dispatches the undead creature.
combat over
Lying on the table is a waraxe. The dwarf still carrys his pack containing his personal diary, written in Dwarven, containing the story of Hao Jin transporting the entire city to safety, his last minute search for his son, and being left behind just as Baba Yaga’s armies closed in.
The cold winds howled fiercely last night. I fear that the cataclysm may truly be as
great as the strange sorcerer Hao Gin warned. She has been knocking at our doors
every morning, and today, I made the decision for the clan—better to take the risk of
letting her whisk us all away into her mysterious realm than the certainty of freezing to
death. Unfortunately, Bardak didn’t agree. My son is far too stubborn for his own
good. He ran off, and I couldn’t find him anywhere. Now it’s too late; Hao Gin
spirited away the rest of the clan, and I’m stuck out here in the last few rooms that she
left behind. Even worse, a giant block of ice froze over the only way out of here. I could
swear I heard cackling laughter from the other side of the ice, before it grew thick enough
to seal off all sound from the outside world. I can only pray to Torag that Bardak
changed his stubborn mind and accompanied his kin.
Salouris |
Salouris catches his breath as their combined slashes fell the undead dwarf. "So, a clan leader then. What a sad fate for such a man. Do you think he stayed behind to cover his people's exodus?"
He looks into the fireplace to see if there is any tinder remaining for a flame, then moves around the table towards the far door and prepares to open it, once his colleagues have also had a chance to regroup.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
GM Baerlie |
Fuzzfoot is able to translate the diary. No tinder is left to make a fire, the dwarf used everything up while he was waiting for his death.
Salouris opens the two doors in this room, revealing two sleeping rooms. The fleeing dwarves took everything with them and the remaining bedclothes are already rotten.
Salouris |
Browsing through the abandoned sleeping rooms, Salouris' fears are confirmed. There is nothing and no one here. Though after all these centuries, perhaps that's a good thing...
He makes his way back out of the living quarters, being careful not to fall down the sheer drop to the ice floor below.
"Do any of you know if there are special dwarven burial customs? Or bring a pick and shovel for that matter? We can't leave his body here, but I imagine there might be some pointed questions if we returned to Dulan with it." Salouris calls back to his comrades as he opens the last visible door.
Hironaki |
"It seems we are missing something...." Hiro murmurs as he peers over the edge. "....anyone have a way to cross over the cliff? It looks as if there are portions of rooms." He says, looking to the southeast.
Nimgaji |
"An Agile one could jump around the corner could they not?"Nimgaji says with a pondering look. "Using a rope others should be able to shimmy across after them?"
Salouris |
"Heh, agile" Slouris gives his version of a chuckle and lifts his metal sword and shield to expose his armor. "That would be a benefit."
He walks back carefully along the drop's edge and tries to peer across the chasm.
Can Salouris see anything across the 'pit'? Any walls missing due to the shearing of the Tapestry effect?
