Lukasz Alazario |
I am still around, but Lukasz isn't the type to act without info to act on. The scout has returned, but not reported much outside of getting a new knife. If nothing new from the group that headed down the stairs, then we might just have to proceed through the door without knowing what to expect.
Isabella Deschain |
Gonna give the others (less Dex, who is still out?) a day or so to weigh in before Isabella takes an action that might significantly change our situation.
Leekoo |
Hope they haven't dropped out :-(

Sry guys. Haven't been able to get into the mindset for Zed. Been busy scribbling away for a writing contest (with cash prize), and figuring out what I'm going to be doing about college. Still need to hit their financial aid office, which closed yesterday while I was talking to the counselor woman and getting my "education plan" in place -_-....
Also, price checking apartments, cars, and so on. With a dash of my fiance's health getting worse with one to two daily gallbladder attacks, and we STILL haven't heard from that f#%%ing surgeon (calling that f$$*ing office tomorrow).
I'll post in a few. Gotta get myself into an appropriate head space.
Korak The Boisterous |
Leekoo, I think it ate your post again, when I clicked on it it said there were two new messages but I only have one from Lukasz
Storyteller Shadow |
Alright, I am finally moved in and mostly up and running, time to catch up on my threads...
Isabella Deschain |
Yay ^.^ everyone's here
Sorry to hear the hardships, Zed. Take whatever time you need; our game is obviously secondary to any RL concerns.
Isabella Deschain |
I don't really want to prolong our deliberation, but I feel that window is too good to throw at an encounter unless we need to.
In the first AP I played, Shattered Star, we tended to use similar, potentially game-changing items in really abstract ways. My monk eventually kept two immovable rods handy, for climbing through the air & such. My favorite:
Late in the AP, in the Rune Lord's Lab (Pride, I think?), there's a room with a caged electro-fish in it. Our cleric happened to get trapped in the room alone, which of course filled with water, and he was going to die from the fishy, when he threw a token that we'd acquired much earlier in the campaign and everyone else had forgotten about.
The token creates a tree, something like 30ft tall, which it did, underneath the fish (off a natural 20 ranged touch). DM-ruled sheer awesomeness had the fish & it's cage smashed against the ceiling. Probably nothing anyone ever had in mind for that token, until the drunk, drowning, Halfling cleric needed it to survive.
Leekoo |
Nice use of the tree :-)
Was in an evil campaign a while back taking place in Golarion, and we needed to steal one of Geb's(?) greyblades, the guillotine things, and for a distraction so we could get away, I rigged a greyblade to come down and spice a different greyblade in half, releasing the spirits trapped within.

I could've swore I managed to hit send on my post before the interwebz went down. Ah well! Time to go post, round two! Comcast may have a (usually) reliable connection, but even it can't seem to deal with thunderstorms and blown cable lines.
Isabella Deschain |
We all went nuts when it actually worked lol. Nice one Leekoo :) I'm not familiar with the greyblades, but it definitely sounds like a clever diversion.
That's it exactly Lukasz, but the guards are further down the hallway we're all currently lurking in, they're not actually in a room (although there may be more guards in another room).
At the bottom of the stairs is a small room, with a door that opens to a hallway (we're all essentially around that doorway, with Bleepos having sneaked a littler further down the hall). The hallway has a number of other doors, the first one to the right we can safely assume goes to the kitchen. Further down the hallway is one visible guard, but we've always seen them in pairs, so there's probably at least one more hanging out there too.
That means the action is now in your hands (Dex, Leekoo, & Bleepos), until you deal with the cooks & get in position. Speaking of which, we'll need some sort of signal to know you guys are ready to ambush. Maybe crack the door open a smidge?

Aalrighty! Finally got a date for my fiance's surgery. So, pretty much for the day of the 19th I'll likely be unable to post. A few days afterwards I'll try to get one at least once a day, but I'm going to have to watch her like a hawk, since she doesn't handle anesthesia nor blood loss well (took 3 days for her to recover her energy from the anesthesia for the cyst removal a couple years ago; and she gets pretty badly anemic when it's that time of the month, for example). I should be back to regularly scheduled programming by the 21st, or 22nd at the latest.
In the intervening time (19th - 22nd), I'll do what I can at least once a day. Provided there's something for Zedekiel to do, of course.
Leekoo |
Got my fingers crossed for your fiance. Hope everything goes well.
Storyteller Shadow |
Good luck with the surgery Zed.
Been sick but will post now, by next week I should be able to check twice daily again as normal.
Isabella Deschain |
Hope all goes well with the surgery Zed!
I have a sinking suspicion Izzy just fell down the chimney... reading the rules for Climb, I see bracing against parallel walls (it specifically gives a chimney as an example) modifies the climb DC by -10, and perpendicular walls (ie corners; which a four-walled chimney also has) provides a further -5.
It also says the modifiers stack. So, depending on the surface of the chimney, which sets the base DC, and any penalties there might be from trying to climb a smoke-filled chimney, maybe 5 is enough to get her down safely..?
Let's hope the warden hasn't put in many maintenance requests for this particular structure.
I shared Bleepos' nervousness before the roll; now I hope the falling/fire damage isn't lethal..
Korak The Boisterous |
Question, would you rather take non lethal damage, and possibly set on fire, or take falling damage definitely pass it unimpeded?
Isabella Deschain |
Okay, so I must guiltily admit I just skimmed a few of the adventure posts in the blog you linked for the vampire feats, Korak. (you originally put the link for the vampire feats in recruitment, well before we actually started playing, if you don't recall).
Anyway, their DM is so incredibly soft. Again, I was just skimming, mostly to see how we're managing thus far in comparison. I wasn't looking for spoilers, and I stopped reading after their battle in the hallway (third or fourth post).
The players apparently managed to alert the guards there and set off the alarm, and they had to fight through the whole damn contingent in that hallway. Some folks went down, and obviously they didn't have the healing to bring them up, so the DM had Tiadora (the woman who gave us the veil) teleport in to save them with a gifted wand of CLW...
And they apparently got bows & arrows from somewhere between the cells & the hallway that they used in that battle... so unless we missed a hidden weapons stash in the stairwell (doubtful, but whatever in any case), that's a little circumspect as well...
That was all too much for me, and I conclude that we are faring much better than the goofy ass party in that blog.
Also, I sent Zed a PM.
Korak The Boisterous |
If you were skimming you might very well have missed them going a different path, I don't know. But you didn't miss a stash. As for being goofy, do you guys realize how many times I've had to describe the outside now? Or the tiny nothing room at the bottom of the stairs?
Zedekiel |
Jeesus h Christ in hell, did not expect to oversleep this long. To the gameplay thread! 15 freakin' hours... Who sleeps that long!? Sry guys.
Also, Korak, if I wind up way too late, feel free to GMPC Zed a bit.
Edit: There we go....
Also, feel I should mention that since Zed has some spotlight with the baiting of the guard and poking around inside their head and everything, in combination with stuff offline, I decided to take a bit more of a reactive role than a proactive one and avoid stepping on anyone's toes/spotlight. I notice Zed's got quite a few class skill overlap with the rest of the group (not sure how long that'll remain with the eventual class change, but hey), after all.
I have managed to check the thread at least once a day, save a few days here and there, there just wasn't much for Zed to get in on and do, with all that in mind. My naturally nocturnal schedule doesn't help matters, what with everyone posting during the day, lol.
Korak The Boisterous |
Yes it's not going nearly as fast as I would generally prefer, but the longer it takes the longer I can put off buying the third book, and with my limited funds I'm cool with that.
Isabella Deschain |
As for being goofy, do you guys realize how many times I've had to describe the outside now? Or the tiny nothing room at the bottom of the stairs?
Lol there could be important things. I was going to ask if the garden was on a balcony, but then I caught courtyard & got the general idea. And I was thinking a decorative flower garden, not something for utility/consumption.
While skimming, I'm not sure how they got to the hall, but I know from the DM/author's [/assumption] perspective that they were in the hall at the bottom of the stairs from the cells, with Grumblejack, & ran into the guards there; failed to silence them, set of the alarm, and fought a terrible battle. I was drawn into the action, and turned off by the "ending."
I think they also ran into more guards in different places before leaving the cells, or went through different rooms. Grumblejack cracked some skulls. & I know there's dogs somewhere <.< sorry. & Tiadora seems more important now, but I probably should've figured that out already *is not the mouthpiece*.
More serious matters:
From Isabella's vantage in the doorway, is the garden/bush close enough & tall/dense enough to hide in? I want to try to run there before the people get too close, if there's adequate cover. Are they far enough away yet to make that distance without getting too close?
Just reread & realized they're coming from inside the building. Can anyone else hear them coming, or just Dexter?
Korak The Boisterous |
dexter's the only one by the door and the walls are thick. And Tiadora is not a get out of jail free card despite how this other GM used her. You're being tested.
Isabella Deschain |
It is a good plan, Zed, but I doubt they'll stop to wonder where we went with Luke standing in the open near the door, and Dex isn't hiding either, but plans to grab them immediately.
Right now I'm debating joining Dex & throwing the door closed after we haul them in, or trying to bar the door before they can enter. Korak, are there any obvious objects that could be used to hold the door closed?
Zedekiel |
At the very least it'll prove a distraction for Luke and Dex. Like I said, working on 4 HP here. I'd rather not drop and have to be hauled (or left behind) if I don't have to be, heh.
The question is how many are coming, is my question, and is that 'outside' truly outside, or in some inner yard?
Isabella Deschain |
I understand. It could actually be a really effective ploy if everyone was operating on the same page, and may yet provide a distraction, but at the very least does get you out of harm's way.
The guards always moved in two's previously, but thinking in terms of the prison's normal operation, with us being in the kitchen this could also be another cook, or a lone guard looking for a snack, or a larger group concerned over their late dinner... Dexter heard laughter from one room away, which stopped when the door closed. That means there are more people nearby, but they're likely not all moving toward the kitchen (yet). - one reason to bar the door, hide the bodies and run. We did also leave two dead guards upstairs.
Right now, we're working against the clock. Eventually our escape will be discovered, and all of the guards will be actively searching for us. The main thing is not to directly deal with the guards, but to simply make our escape before they realize we're doing it. I think we can all see we need to cover our tracks a bit better. If we'd hidden the bodies well enough we could just leave the kitchen and continue our escape. Now we have to deal with the possibility of discovery.
I thought we were maybe a bit closer to freedom as well, but Korak referred to outside as a 'courtyard,' and Leekoo saw walls & towers, so I'm guessing we left the prison building, but are still in a larger complex. We'll likely need to scale the walls, make a window, or find a gate to get outside outside. Or find a possible underground/secret exit, but that requires going into other buildings and moving away from the more obvious paths to freedom.

We're in Azkaban before the rise of dementors!
Storyteller Shadow |
I will not be able to post until tomorrow, I have a memo I have to get done tonight.

Oh look, Alcatraz before the Flamels went to war with Dr. Dee.... And before an ancient aztec giant frog god squished it.
Makes two check marks on the wall for people who understand that joke

Surprised someone got that. I know one book series was fairly popular, YA I believe... The other I wasn't sure had that large a following, specially since it was an obscure reference for "one of the possible futures" :p.
That said, I won't be able to post till tomorrow. Got the call for the time for the surgery today, 5AM. So we need to be on a general "5am schedule", and thus, time for sleep.
For those that didn't get it, I'm referring to: 1) The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flammel series; and 2) the Marla Mason series, specifically book 1, Blood Engines.
.... come to think of it, I need to request my Library get everything out of Mrs. Mason after Spell Games. I wasn't even aware there were... Jesus, 5 more books!? Wonder if they got that issue with that fungal god straightened out...
Korak The Boisterous |
...I'll be honest I don't know the second, I thought it was either later in the series or a part of the second book I forgot.
