Uthar takes a step toward Jam's opponent, but before he can get there, the monk chases him down. The man turns to protect himself, but Jam closes too fast and drops him with a knee to the chest. The rider falls awkwardly, lands heavily, and lies motionless in an unnatural position.

A slight course correction puts Uthar in front of the spearman, and he mows the first one down with ruthless efficacy. Fear gleams in the remaining spearmen's eyes.

Aljohar to go.

Good use of action points, guys. Jam's victory wouldn't have been as decisive without Al's sling first. Uthar is just a beast.

The bandit archers in the wagon bed return fire at the townsfolk archer. One arrow flies wide, the other draws a gasp of pain from the town's archer.

Two spearmen rush forward to engage Thenji and his erstwhile cohorts with vicious threats. A third launches his spear at Syrus.

Behind the melee, bandits take to horse and follow the receding wagon.

With the wagon nestled in the alleyway, Syrus scrambles to the ground, dodging a hurtling spear entirely by accident. He stares at the weapon for a second with big eyes before stepping back out into the main road, only to notice that the bandits were upon them.

They were in dangerous proximity to the enemy, but Syrus quickly recalls an old trick he learned during his training. The enemy would not always give him the luxury of being a hundred feet away, he had been told. He concentrates extra hard, managing to fire another arcane bolt at one of the bandits attacking Thenji.

Despite Stephan's earlier fears and his rather reckless approach Jamorin seems nearly unharmed, though he might be sporting a nice hoof shaped bruise under his loose clothing. "Glad you could join the fun my friend" He says to Stephan when he arrives, "but I must apologize I'll have be leaving you again, there's a fair damsel in distress."

With that Jam takes off running again managing not to lose his footing in fact he seems unusually surefooted, unusual for Jam anyway. He barrels down the street making directly for the injured Amanda and Peter. Kind, clumsy and a bit spindly most people probably wouldn't think twice about getting in his way normally, but right now it doesn't look like much of anything could stop him.

Overrun: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Jam should actually be at 930 where he fought with the rider, so double move to 985 with Amanda and Peter shouldn't be a problem unless someone decides to get in the way, and has the CMD of a tank. Overrun will provoke AOO from the target if anything is in the way.

Main Street. Round 11 conclusion.

Jamorin dashes north unhindered by spearmen.

A shame to waste that overrun, but the bandits're retreating down the alley.

Peter Roujon lies with blood staining the boards around him, and dripping through the cracks into the sand below. He is unconscious and his breath comes in short rattling spurts.

A short distance away Amanda's feet lie across the threshold of Butterfield's store. They move weakly as she tries to pull herself farther inside. Blood trails from her legs into the street.

Farther north Pensive Starfinder lies unmoving on the ground.

Aljohar also dashes north intent on Starfinder, but passing Jamorin and Peter she hears labored rattling breathing that she remembers too well. The boy has mere heartbeats remaining to him without help. The healers dilemma. Too many patients, not enough time.

Karl Roujon continues his mad dash up the street.

Accompanied by one remaining townsman, Uthar pursues the retreating bandits. He round the corner and sees them three abreast, spearman, leader, and spearman with an archer immediately behind. Barely slowing on the turn, he charges down the alley, bearing on the leader.

Karls arms pumping he gets nearer the scene of the scuffle, there's a knot in his stomach that isn't from the over-exertion but infact from the sight of Peter upon the floor. His pace quickens as he tries with all his might to actually arrive in time.

Through blurred vision, he spots the scuffle ahead and then the pulsing pain in the depths of his stomach turns as he sees a robed figure hold aloft a symbol....a divine symbol. DSX, how's the Con holding out?:
Run

You can run as a full-round action. If you do, you do not also get a 5-foot step. When you run, you can move up to four times your speed in a straight line (or three times your speed if you're in heavy armor). You lose any Dexterity bonus to AC unless you have the Run feat.

You can run for a number of rounds equal to your Constitution score, but after that you must make a DC 10 Constitution check to continue running. You must check again each round in which you continue to run, and the DC of this check increases by 1 for each check you have made. When you fail this check, you must stop running. A character who has run to his limit must rest for 1 minute (10 rounds) before running again. During a rest period, a character can move no faster than a normal move action.

You can't run across difficult terrain or if you can't see where you're going.

A run represents a speed of about 13 miles per hour for an unencumbered human.

After collecting his breath to go with his thoughts he looks up to those around him. His eyes meet the priestess Aljohar; "I thank you, saving Peter and the others. I'll not forget this."

At the alley's mouth, Uthar's steel helmed comrade in arms announces, "They're on the run. she looks over Jam's shoulder at Peter, "How's the boy?" and glances at the dead old man beside him. Then she quickly moves south to her other friend and the wounded lying in the street. Karl joins knot of people gathered around Peter. You can see the tension ease off Peter's muscles when Karl's spell does its work. The boy murmurs, "The fire--" but remains unconscious.

West Street: The lessening cacophony of dull hoofbeats continues as the horses run north, but the dust lingers and gives the air a faintly soapy taste. He can take it from there. If they left some live ones behind, it may be a good time for emphatic questioning." She exchanges a quick, understanding glance with the hunter. Indicating Starfinder's body, she adds, "They took him out first, notice. Isn't Lord Winehorn supposed to arrive soon? Where's he coming from? Someone should warn his guard of trouble. Can you organize things while I work triage?"

With a quick wave to the scout, she trots off in Attus' direction, similarly calling for wounded and coordinating efforts with the other priest while keeping an eye out for her rather unworldly scholar friend. Thenji's target skips aside the thrust, then dashes for the horses. He grabs pommel and reins and hoists himself into the saddle on his belly, then lifts and swings himself into a seated position as the horse gathers speed away.

Close, but no cigar.

Linokashtai hastily loads her crossbow with another bolt as the spearman who was attacking Thenji disengages and starts to run, firing the moment she is sure it is properly in place.

While the shot does not fly true, it nonetheless served the purpose of demonstrating that she will continue to aggress if they do not continue to flee. She nods to Thenji's question of whether she is alright, but approaches the rogue at remarking how bloodied the man is. "Let's regroup. Aljohar or Attus can see you," she offers, a dour expression on her face, "Lean against me." Her psicrystal advises strongly against allowing a bleeding man to touch her in any way but, as she often does, Linokashtai ignores the recommendation.

Whether or not Thenji takes her offer of assistance, she will move towards the others. "We need to question them. If any are alive."

Jam sighs and shakes his head when Stephan joins him and asks about Peter "Hurt... bad, I'm no healer, but he looks much better since Al and Karl did their thing, I expect he'll pull through."

The young man smiles at Lydia when she asks about being a runner "I wouldn't dream of saying no to you, I can start out to tell him immediately." Dropping the grin in a much more serious tone than usual he asks "Is Amanda well? I tried to get to her... umm and the others of course, as quickly as possible, but I didn't make it in time to be any help..."

But where to find Winehorn?

Know(local) DC 5:
Traditionally Winehorn would stop at Griffon's Ford before coming to Haltwhistle. And two days ago it looked like he was on his traditional route.

As the excitement of battle begins to wear off, the rush of adrenaline keeping Thenji moving drains like water down a large drain. He sags visibly only to wince as his wounds roar to life demanding attention. As Linokashtai offers to help support him, Thenji nods gratefully.

"Thanks for that, Lady Lino," he gasps out. Thenji takes the offered shoulder, but tries to still hold some of his wait.

"Help me into the cart. Come, you and Syrus can help me use Brawny to help transport other wounded."

He looks around then sighs. "Where did Aljohar run off to now?"

Linokashtai helps Thenji into the cart and she says, seeming to mostly be talking to herself, speaking at an audible mumble so at least Syrus and Thenji will be able to hear her: "Nobody is injured here that I can see, but on the other street... They seemed to target Pensive. I need to check if he is alright. If they targeted him, there must be a reason. The timing is unlikely to be coincidence."

"We need to regroup with the others first. Then we can search these attackers for information." She says this directly to Thenji. She hooks her crossbow back to her hip. "We need to make sure Winehorn is protected, but we also need to make sure the town is defended from another attack." She climbs towards the front of the cart to try and direct Brawny back towards the others, nodding acknowledgement to Syrus as she gets there. She rubs her brow softly and says to herself quietly, "What typical luck..."

Uthar waits a long moment, before cracking his neck and calling back. "Aye Lydia, I'll see who wishes to help this side, and get any wounded to Attus."

He steps out of the alleyway, careful not to slip on blood, freshly spilled and still aching for the life it was once a part of, then grimaces at the morbid thought. A quick jog over to the cart nets him a view of the injured thenji alongside Lino and Syrus, thoug hhe does not know the latters name.

"Ouch, it certainly looks like you ate the worst of it over here Thenji," a quick glance tells him all he needs to know, Thenjis injured, badly. "Attus and Aljohar, are dishing out first aid and magic on the main road, we have at least two dead, many more injured, I'm not sure about Pensive yet, but it looked bad." He falls into position next to the moving cart.

"How'd it fare over this side?"

"She'll be fine, given some time to heal. I saw you had your hands full - don't let anyone tell you that you can't fight again, Jamorin. I swear I've never seen a man trip a horse before! Anyhow, see if anyone knows the route Lord Winehorn is on, and we'll see if we can round up enough of us to run down those men and take back what they stole." A sudden thought occurs to Lydia. "The riders were at the cobblers earlier...maybe someone should make sure things are all right there."

Linokashtai looks down from the cart towards Uthar for a few moments, considering, "Uthar. Has Aljohar already examined Pensive? I fear the worst... I wish to consult with him, but I think that's not going to happen."

She gestures over down the street, "We killed some of their men, none living seemed to be left behind. Thenji is in the worst condition of any of us. Are there any of their people alive on your side? We should have someone question them if there are. I saw Karl, maybe he can handle that."

Once she gets to the Main Street, she stops Brawny and hops down from the cart. While there is blood on her scholar's robes, none of it actually belongs to her and her movement does not seem at all hampered. The psion looks to Aljohar, calling for information, "Pensive?" She takes a deep breath, and braces herself for bad news.

Syrus is left breathing raggedly once the bandits take their leave, strained not by any particularly strenuous physical exertion, but by the force of will it took to use his magic after so long. Thanks to the heat and his state of dress he had already been sweating like a pig, but now he was utterly drenched. Whether he was actually bothered by this was anyone's guess.

On their way to Main Street, the sorcerer tugs at the wraps binding the lower half of his face, pulling them down and exposing his mouth. From the way his horrible skin looked, one might think he was a leper. Rasping for breath, he squeezes the pittance left in his waterskin right down his throat.

Should have brought something a little stronger... he thinks sheepishly as he wipes off his mouth and covers it up again, berating himself for being so brazen. The last thing he needed was for everyone in town to think he was laden with disease.

When they reach the street, Syrus stays on the cart, peering down over at Pensive and awaiting the inevitable bad news. He could already feel his gut doing backflips.

Linokashtai takes a long and deep breath at being told that Pensive has passed on and she nods. "At least he died fighting," she mumbles, pretty sure that's how the man would have preferred to go out. Stay calm. Do your duty.

Lino stands up as straight as possible, back cracking a bit as she unslopes her shoulders and tries to take on a more official air, a front she developed from her own military contributions. She nods to Jam and says, "If one of them men you were fighting is still alive... bind him, and Aljohar, if you can stabilize him... we may wish to question him to know of their intent. Also, Thenji is hurt in the wagon, be sure to consider that in your triage." She looks towards Lydia and says, "As much as we wish to be rid of these people, if we know their intent we can better anticipate their movements and either cut them off. Or strike at their weaknesses."

She waves to Karl and says, "Vintner, make yourself useful and extract information if we can get him talking. Maybe Thenji can help if we can get him to his feet in short order. He can be good at talking at times."

"Lydia, I know you are eager, but it may be best to wait. How long before the trail goes cold to your..." She pauses, somewhat unsure of the shifter's methods, and decides to go with the safer, "Tracking abilities?"

"Jamorin, you may wish to wait until we know what message we wish to send..."

To Uthar she asks, "Were you intending to join Lydia's attack party? Your strength could be an asset to the offensive. If Jamorin will be heading to inform Winehorn, I may need to head in that direction as well. In case he wishes to consult..."

Finally, she speaks to Syrus, seeming a bit concerned (at least, concerned for someone as emotionally distant as her), "Are you okay?"

When she finishes speaking, she crosses her arms again over her own stomach, brow furrowing a bit in thought.

Lydia takes out one of the shafts she salvaged and grins.

"I can trail him across all the five kingdoms with his scent on this, saving him taking a ship," she declares. "We need time to gather ourselves and heal our injured anyway, so let's wait and be ready when Lord Winehorn gets here. It won't hurt to let them think they've got away from us, either, after the mauling they took."

Rising to her feet she walks over to the Grange and peers inside, seeking to see what the bandits took.

Fury and concern virtually render Karl insensible as he watches the others get organised - though his thoughts constantly flash back to Peter and his injuries.

Head rising at the sopund of his name he looks to those around him, a dark cast to his eyes. "Hunting party? That sounds good."

Then he looks to Lino, with a tilt of his head; "Extract information, from one of the thieves?"

Attus looks at Aljohar, "Someone's got to take charge."
