I'm back! This past week has been one of the most stressful of my life guys and I apologize for disappearing. I didn't realize that December would be such a crazy month for me. I'v come a long way on my decisions, and I should have them up by tomorrow (I think I said that two weeks ago, but this is for real).

OKAY!
After some VERY tough decisions, I have decide to drop the campaign!
Just Kidding! I have finally made four selections, as I have two brothers with reserved spots. If they decide to back out, however, then I will PM their replacements. Here are my selections:
Lady Rosalyn Luminass
Sazzat Tamm
Kawai
The Grey Spectre
Congrats you guys! Head over to the discussion
To everyone else: Your submissions were great and I hope you'll all stick around for the next time an opening pops up.
Lady Rosalyn Luminass |
I have had a seriously, very busy last couple of weeks, and have not really had much time to work on my PC. Thus, I believe I will bow out and let somebody who is already finished have a spot. Unless Wivvy wants to give me more time, I feel this is the most fair thing for all involved.
I think is it very kind of Monkeygod to offer up his slot, knowing he has RL commitments. Also shows class to let every one know and let others have a punt. So it dos seem the game may have slot open again. Note: That has to be OK with the GM, but I suggest to anyone who has a PC done, That fast post on here showing your still willing and interested may sway his mind, and get you a shot at the slot. :)

note that pre-game crafting was banned by the GM
The question I wanted answered wasn't gear related per se, it was related to Retraining to get Monk abilities at useful levels instead of the current system where the abilities become available a level after you have to choose them.
fnord72 |
Interesting question Rynjin, since we are already level 18.
That an ability wasn't of much use at level 9 but became useful at level 10 shouldn't be a concern at level 18. It was simply a challenging point in your character's history.
Maybe some more information on what specifically you want to retrain?
Rynjin |
Mostly Qinggong abilities.
Diamond Soul (comes in at 13th) for Blood Crow Strike (Comes in at 14th) most prominently.
Retraining Wholeness of Body (Comes in at 7th) for Ki Leech (comes in at 10th) and High Jump (comes in at 5th) for Dragon's Breath (comes in at 8th) would also be desirable.
Nothing too buff, I just don't like those abilities and would prefer a bit more versatility (Blood Crow Strike for a ranged attack when I need it, Dragon's Breath for swarms and the like, and Ki Leech so I can do those any time I need to).
At the proper levels I'd be trading out Slow Fall for Barkskin, Tongue of the Sun and Moon for Cold Ice Strike, and (unless you'd let me cheese the aging bonuses by assuming I had received it before I took any penalties for a free +6 to all mental stats, which I find unlikely) Timeless Body for...something. Maybe Shadow Walk so we can have fast travel capability on multiple characters in the party.

I love making characters so I'll probably roll an idea up today for funsies. :P I wanted to try and get a Goblin boon in PFS and roll up a Dragon Disciple, thanks to a fun image in the Gamemastery Guide of a goblin with a dragon outfit on.
I'll see if I like how he looks at level 18 and make an Alias for him. ;)
Edit: Oh and just out of curiosity, how do you rule Bloodrager/Dragon Disciple? Dragon Disciple says it levels as sorcerer levels for your bloodline, would you consider that for bloodrager also? I want to make a cute little barbarian goblin who likes to pretend he's a dragon and create chaos wherever he goes. n ___n

Someone kill me now; making Gestalt characters is too much fun.
I want to cheat and go:
5 levels of Bloodrager/?????? (Maybe Ranger)
13 levels of Bloodrager/Dragon Disciple
If they stack (I could do Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple instead) I could technically have Power of Wyrms, the level 20 Draconic Bloodline ability. Immunity to paralysis, sleep, and damage of my energy type, and blindsense 60 ft. Is that too powerful? If so I'm still okay with being just a level 18 bloodline :P

Hi Maar,
I'm not the GM, so my statement should be taken with plenty of salt.
In general with gestalt, any time you have abilities that stack from classes, you are capped at your HD.
So if you took sorcerer on one side of the gestalt, and a prestige class that advanced sorcerer, you would not be able to exceed your hit dice in sorcerer levels. Most GM's might require you to take the prestige class on the same side as the class it advances. Since prestige classes that effectively advance two classes (mystic theurge, arcane trickster, eldritch knight, etc) are not allowed in gestalt, this ruling works well. Most GM's I know of have allowed a dip of a casting class on the other side of the gestalt to maintain HD casting. For instance, wizard 5 / arcane savant 7 is a 13th level character but 12th level caster. Taking a 1 level dip of wizard on the other side of the gestalt on one of the arcane savant levels would bring casting up to 13th level. Taking two levels of wizard on the other side is a waste since casting can't exceed the 13 hit dice.
Also note that abilities from other classes that state "stacks with levels from X class" also can't exceed hit dice.
Are you asking if you could take 5 levels of bloodrager with ranger on one side of your gestalt and 13 levels of bloodrager with dragon disciple on the other side?
If so, the answer would be no. You can't take the same class on each side of your gestalt.
You could take 18 levels of bloodrager. That would be one side of your gestalt.
On the other side you would be barred from taking barbarian or sorcerer (multiclass rules for hybrid classes). If you took a prestige class that advanced either barbarian or sorcerer, most, if not all, benefits would be rendered unavailable due to the "can't exceed hit dice".
You could take 11 levels of bloodrager and 10 levels of dragon disciple. (three levels of bloodrager or dragon disciple on the other side of the gestalt. This would give you casting at 18th level. Any more levels of bloodrager would not give you any extra casting.
For instance, doesn't matter what combination of classes and prestige classes are used, a rogue can't get more than 10d6 in sneak attack dice from class abilities.

So, looking at bloodrager, ranger, and dragon disciple, you could do something like this:
bloodrager 1 // ranger 1
bloodrager 2 // ranger 2
bloodrager 3 // ranger 3
bloodrager 4 // ranger 4
bloodrager 5 // ranger 5
bloodrager 6 // ranger 6
bloodrager 7 // ranger 7
bloodrager 8 // ranger 8
bloodrager 9 // dragon disciple 1
ranger 9 // dragon disciple 2
ranger 10 // dragon disciple 3
ranger 11 // dragon disciple 4
bloodrager 10 // dragon disciple 5
ranger 12 // dragon disciple 6
ranger 13 // dragon disciple 7
ranger 14 // dragon disciple 8
bloodrager 11 // dragon disciple 9
ranger 15 // dragon disciple 10
This would give you bloodrager 11 / ranger 15 / dragon disciple 10.
Your sorcerer casting would be 18th level.
Notice how the last two bloodrager classes are delayed? This is because they occur at those levels of dragon disciple where there is not a progression of casting class.
Note that I did not consider or look at if bloodrager would meet the requirements of dragon disciple. I only looked at how multiclassing and gestalt works.
Note that, baring limits on the number of classes, you could stop the ranger progression and have another class dip in there. You would not be able to take another prestige class for any of the levels where you have a dragon disciple class listed.

Thanks that helps a lot! It makes sense that it would cap at your max level. Also, I noticed that Dragon Disciple does say it stacks with your Sorcerer LEVELS, so that right there would tell me it doesn't go beyond 18.
Thanks for the detailed response, it's helping me understand a lot of things at once for Gestalt, hehe. I'm not too worried about the caster level, I'm more focused on IF Bloodrager works with Dragon Disciple, and if it does, how the hell do the powers end up in the end? The Bloodrager Draconic Bloodline is slightly different from the Sorcerer one and those small changes are making this really confusing. xD
I wonder what I should put in there with Bloodrager/Dragon Disciple though. I was thinking Ranger just because of their combat styles with Natural Weapons, since I'll pretty much be a dragon most of the time with 6 natural attacks.
Maar the Volcano Monk |
And what I was thinking was, to put it in your format:
Bloodrager 1 // Ranger 1
Bloodrager 2 // Ranger 2
Bloodrager 3 // Ranger 3
Bloodrager 4 // Ranger 4
Bloodrager 5 // Ranger 5
Bloodrager 6 // Dragon Disciple 1
Bloodrager 7 // Dragon Disciple 2
Bloodrager 8 // Dragon Disciple 3
Bloodrager 9 // Dragon Disciple 4
Bloodrager 10 // Dragon Disciple 5
Bloodrager 11 // Dragon Disciple 6
Bloodrager 12 // Dragon Disciple 7
Bloodrager 13 // Dragon Disciple 8
Bloodrager 14 // Dragon Disciple 9
Bloodrager 15 // Dragon Disciple 10
And then honestly anything for the next 3 levels. Heck I can even drop 5-6 levels of Bloodrager if I want, since DD will give me all of my Bloodline powers.
fnord72 |
Have you thought about just going barbarian 15 / sorcerer 11 / dragon disciple 10? Three of your sorcerer levels will be on the barbarian side, but then you don't have wasted class abilities from going bloodrager as high.
You really won't need to be (or shouldn't) casting that many spells while raging. Moment of Clarity would give you time to cast a spell though.
GM Pandorica |
I am giving up my slot, so now there is onefree.
But be warned the GM is posting once a week at the moment, and has done from the start, I get a feeling the GM is not committed to this at all.
As the GM seem to only post a few lines each time.
So Don't expect a real game, at this post rate you will be lucky to get the 1st combat over this year.
So good luck all.
I'm out of here.

I've been a little low on the sleep side for the past couple of days now, I'm trying to formulate a campaign based on the surroundings that the players themselves started with so I haven't been able to plan ahead too much and I'm still waiting on a few players to finish their characters. I'm not running this campaign for a year, I'm running it for a month. I am as committed as any GM, this one is just a lot of work. Sorry that you were looking for a hundred posts a day but please try to be realistic. I can try and keep it a one a day for the role play part and then it will pick up considerably during combat. Sorry, but please don't post your assumptions about my level of commitment.

I seem to be a little late to the party but it seems you might still have a spot open.
This campaign looks like a great deal of high level fun and I have an itch to scratch in that department.
I think I might have a character that would be perfect for a campaign like this. Provided you are still taking applications, I would like to pitch Icarum, the Linnorm Tyrant. He would be an Ulfen Barbarian/Alchemist(Beastmorph)/Master Chymist.
Descendant of a Linnorm King, Icarum knew from a young age that he was destined for the same fate. Seeking power beyond that of mortal warriors, he turned to alchemy, learning how to harness the power of monsters to unleash the primal power within.
After a long pilgimage into the world at large to hone his skills against the most dangerous opponents he could find, Icarum returned to his homeland to secure his destiny.
After months of research and hunting, he finally located one of the legendary linnorms he had dreamed about since childhood. The battle was long and bloody but Icarum eventually emerged victorious. With the great dragon dead at his feet, the newly minted king mixed a potion of the linnorm's blood to claim the beast's strength for his own.
None know the truth of what happened when Icarum drank his concoction but the whispers say that he absorbed far more that the dragon's power, he absorbed the linnorm's soul itself and the creature's mind came with it. On that day an intelligence cruel and alien to that of simple mortals took up residence within Icarum's thoughts, where it wages war with him to this day.
It has been several years since that day and his influence in the Land of the Linnorm King's grows daily but those who now pledge themselves to his cause can never be certain whether it is the man they address...or the Linnorm.
So that's the general idea. I saw earlier you entertained the idea of templates and I would be interested in talking to you about using the half-dragon template to represent the power he absorbed from the linnorm but I think he would work well enough without it if you have issue with that.
If you think there might be a place for such a character in your campaign, now or down the road, let me know and I'll see about working on some crunch for him.
Thanks!
