"Well then. I guess the city won't miss these Creepers. I appreciate your good intentions and your offer to act on our behalf. But I ask you to stay away from that. I don't want citizens doing our job. We're taking care of that."
"Please be prepared to receive more children this evening. Officer Kasadei would you please take our guests with you? I have some preparations to make."
Kasadei nods and leads Jimmy and Tauriell back to her own office. "I suggest you go back to your home and wait. At least that's what I'm going to do now." she grabs a bag from her office closes the door and leaves. "Good bye."

As Tauriell and Jimmy stand idling outside guards come marching out in fast pace. All of them ready for battle carrying a crossbow. All in all three captains muster their ten guards each.
As they are ready they commence with a forced march towards Underbridge.
These guys and women are serious about their business. The captains are level 5 fighters :)
Foxy Quickpaw |
The city guard march down to Underbridge and straight into the gull. From Naos the upper gate to the Arvensoar another twenty guards start towards the upper entrance of the Gull to make sure no Creepers spread into uptown.
The guards march through the Gull from bottom to top and top down and everything is over in less than two minutes. The thugs are not really interested in a fight with the guard. The locked rooms on the upper level are suspiciously empty as the guards finally break them open.
All thugs found are lead in manacles to the Arvensoar. One division of guards lead the children to the shrine and usher them in. They then march on back to the Arvensoar.
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
"Oh my!" Gwenhyfar calls out on seeing all these children. "We'll run out of apples in no time with all of you here."
She gets the pot with the stew out of the kitchen and tells Carl to bring the crate with the apples. She then starts handing out bowls full of stew. "Please bring the bowls back when you had your first serving. We don't have enough bowls for all of you yet."
"But don't be afraid. I will make more food until every single one of you had enough. No one is going to bed hungry tonight."
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
As the stew is distributed and the apples are all taken Gwenhwyfar starts cutting chunks of bread and cheese and gives them to the hungry children.
To Jimmy she says "We'll need more of everything. Food, beds, tables. And we need to organize that all of that works when we're away again." She has a concerned look on her face. It's easy for her to take care for sick and wounded people or the children at hand.
But so far the organization of everything around the people in need was always Abstalar's job while she was healer in the temple in Sandpoint. She had never to care about such things.
Jimmy Fiddle |
"Let me see what I can do my dear." Jimmy says to her as he turns to look for Carl and Ernard. Time to see whether watching his father set up the merchant caravan comes in handy. Finding the two guards, "Carl, Ernard, I need to speak with you." He calls over to them.
Did I get the names right?
Jimmy Fiddle |
"Do you know of any widows looking to make some money? Perhaps would your wives be willing to work for us? We are going to need people here to look after the kids and keep things running once we leave. We can leave enough coin to ensure you don't run out and we will come back before it runs out. Would you please help us with that?"
Carl the mercenary |
Ernard chuckles and Carl tries to suppress a grin. "I'm sorry to disappoint you but I'm not married. I know a few girls who do almost everything for money but I don't know if that are candidates you would consider."
"You could ask Thomas. He has a family, doesn't he?"
"And it honors me, that you're willing to place such amounts of money in our hands. But I have to decline. If we have to run that here without you around things will get stolen. And I don't like the idea of being the one responsible for that amount of money if it's missing."
Carl really looks honorable on his profile pic and he is at heart, but his aquaintances reflect that he is a recently redeemed thug from a gang. No citicen with a nice house and an intact family.
Tauriell |
Tauriell sits on her outlook quite some time after the city guard is gone again. On one hand she doesn't trust that this will be a final solution. On the other hand she is impressed what the concerted effort of the good and lawful watchers of this city is able to do if pointed in the right direction.
Finally she decides to go back to the shrine despite the fact that it is now a large foster home with dozens of kids running around.
As she is back she enters with a grim expression on her face to make sure the kids leave her alone.
Tauriell |
"I use Wumbrout Brios for such tasks. I give him the money and he takes care of my breakfast order. I'm sure he could do some daily payment too. He is trust worhty. What do you need that for?" Tauriell asks as she didn't hear the start of the conversation.
Tauriell |
"Pfft. Give Wumbrout the money and have him deliver the stuff here. He organizes all that stuff for the whole manor. I guess it wouldn't cost him more than an hour to set everything up with his usual suppliers."
"Worst thing to happen would be that they don't deliver to Underbridge and you have to pull a cart full of stuff from the manor down here." Tauriell suggests.
I'm not lazy. I'm just 'feel good' oriented.
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
Gwenhwyfar goes through the list of potential helpers. "We have Carl and Ernard. Maybe Thomas and his wife and maybe Daya would like to stay here too."
"If all of them are available then it would be enough people to take care of the children. What do you think?" Gwenhwyfar asks.
Tauriell |
"I think the children are not the Problem. It would be nicer for them if you stay around and cuddle every single one of them until they are all happy again. But if they get food and a little care they should be fine."
"What I'd be worried about is how you ensure no one with bad intentions comes to visit you" Tauriell throws in as food for thought.
Foxy Quickpaw |
"What?" Thomas replies the disbelief written over his face. Turning around he calls inside "Rosanna! Take our kids and come. The guys who saved me have a job for us!"
Rosanna takes her youngest to carry it and call for the other two. Then they walk together with Carl to the shrine.
Gwenhwyfar Yongisdottir |
"Ah, wonderful." Gwenhwyfar approaches the two. "Are you taking the job to take care of these kids while we're away?" she asks hopefully.
"I mean together with Carl and Ernard and we hope to win Daya for that too."
Tauriell |
"As you have fun with the kids here I go to see to it that Wumbrout takes over the organisation of the supply." Tauriell says and disappears out of the door again.
She walks up the ramp to the upper part of town and back to the manor. At the meeting house she knocks at the door of Wumbrout Brios.
Tauriell |
"Gwenhwyfar opened a home for some thirty children in Underbridge. They got saved from a Szcarny gang. She hired the staff to take care of the kids. What I would like you to take care of is the supply of that home and paying that staff."
"I would give you the money needed for it and you would take care of ordering the food and what else is needed and get it delivered. As it is about quite some money I need someone trustworthy for that. Like you."
"And you know the job. What do you say?" Tauriell asks.
