Your Benevolent Dictator |
Aravashniel fills in what you don't know. The Worldwound defenses have been breached, and a horde of demons has descended on the city of Kenabres. Chief Sull listens with interest. "Uplanders like yourselves often consider us to be outcasts or freaks, but our ancestors helped drive back the demons during the First Crusade. If you are willing, we will stand and fight with you. Will you take that message to the city above?"
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia on nods. "We can do that for you." She sighs, obviously hungry and tired.

The food you're given is simple but nourishing, mostly various kinds of edible mushrooms and fungi. There's also several sleeping pallets if you'd like to rest. (8hrs rest will restore 1 HP and all your Spell Points/Mythic Power)
Once you've refreshed yourself, Chief Sull tells you the way out. "The closest route to the surface lies through the southern tunnels, but it's guarded by another tribe that doesn't share our opinions. These traitors have been consorting with demon cultists, and I believe it's time to put an end to their nonsense. I have no warriors to spare, but if you promise to destroy the traitors and bring word of our pledge to help the surface-dwellers, I will provide you with medicine from our stores."
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia nods. I'm doing ALL the work...
"I will do my best." Having rested, she finds the others. "Ready to go?"
Celia heads down the way pointed as the exit.

Your Benevolent Dictator |
The tunnel winds southeast for almost half and hour and gradually narrows to a 5ft-wide passageway. Up ahead, barricades made of heaped loose rocks and wooden boards bisect this cavern. Beyond the barricades, a wooden screen covers the lower half of a tunnel mouth. Guarding the area are a pair of mongrelmen, who begin to howl and shriek when they hear you approach (with lame, blind, and complaining companions, you're not going to be particularly stealthy), and you hear running footsteps from further within the complex.
Parting Gift from Chief Sull
Potion - cure light wounds x6
Potion - lesser restoration x3
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia nods, taking the gifts and put them in her pack.
"Oh great. Anevia, get your arrows ready." Celia gets her dagger out and ready.
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia looks at the elf. "Can you cast by sound? If you can, try to cast something in the direction of the mongrels. They're over there." She lifts his arm in a pointing motion, pointing right at one of the mongrel men.
She then goes to the one not pointed at and attacks.

1d4 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + (5) + 1 = 7
I'll assume that you activated Studied Target up before attacking for the extra +1s. #goodguyGM
You stab the mongrel as an eagle materializes behind its head and attacks. Your enemy swings its club at you, but you parry it with a quick motion. When Anevia's next arrow buries in its chest, it shrieks and runs away. The other mongrel sentry attacks the eagle.
Don't forget that you can roll multiple rounds of attacks if you're just whacking away at something.

Mongrelman: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Anevia: 1d20 ⇒ 18 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Your dagger and the eagle's talons take out the first mongrelman. The other sentry smacks the eagle hard, causing it to dissipate. Then Anevia's arrow catches him in the neck, and he drops.
Continuing into the lair, you can smell the lingering aromas of cooked meat and rank bodies. Ten bedrolls, each piled with coarse blankets and animal furs, surround a fire pit filled with glowing coals. Tanned hides hang stretched on the walls, each crudely painted with scenes of deformed humanoids hunting giant vermin in caves. Two more mongrelmen, both clearly having just awoken, begin to move toward you.

Wounds stiching up, she sighs. "Everyone okay?"
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia begins by exploring the top most room.
Your Benevolent Dictator |
The worked stone walls of this large room hold a number of shelves, each of which display the preserved bodies of dire rats, bats, rock vipers, cave lizards, and other creatures that pose in eerie stillness. A pair of bedrolls have been laid out to the southeast.
Of more pressing concern are the two armored humans. One holds a glaive, the other a scythe. As you enter, each touches a hand to her chest and chants a ritualistic-sounding phrase, and you see a faint glow briefly surround them.
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia holds up her hands. "Woah there. Calm down. Perhaps we could talk about this before you try to hurt us?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia sighs "Sure. We'll come with you." She looks at the others. Trust me.
Your Benevolent Dictator |
The two cultists lead you south through a mess hall of sorts before ordering you to descend a shaft in the ground via a rope. Once everyone's reached the bottom, you're led through a few more rooms before arriving in a larger chamber. A human woman in well-made armor and wielding a faintly-glowing glaive is there. She looks you up-and-down with a paranoid gaze. "My soldiers tell me you came from the direction of another village. Who hired you to assassinate me? If you give me their name, I'll make your deaths swift."
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Using a spell point to cast greater enthrall.
"Madame, As you can see, this fellow is recently blind, this lady has broken her leg, that man over there is practically useless in combat, and I am just a woman trying to get out of these tunnels. We have not come here to hurt you or any of your allies. We are simply trying to get out of this place alive. If you could help us find a way out of these caves, we will be out of your hair."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia laughs quietly. "More like you found us. We came into a room your men were in and they led us here. We have no clue where anything is down here, which is the reason we need you to help us get out. We are all quite tired and would like to get back to our homes."
She holds out her hand gently and slowly. "I'm Celia. Whats your name?"
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia smiled and lowered her hand. "Brighter. Much brighter. How long have you been down here that you dont remember?"
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
"That's something to ask my friends. They are directly from the city at the surface. Apparently there has been an attack at the surface, thats how my companions got stuck down here. Have you heard anything coming from the surface down here?"
Your Benevolent Dictator |
The woman brightens at your words. "There's been an attack on the city? That's exactly what I've been waiting to hear. You can come with us, but don't fall behind or we'll leave you." With that, she rushes out of the room, calling for her warriors to assemble. You're left with the pair of guards who escorted you here, who motion for you to follow. Your companions look at you in total confusion.
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia smiles. "Alright. Sounds good. We wont get in your way."
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Seven mongrelmen, two cultists, a tiefling, and the leader travel with you. Everyone is rushed along at a breakneck pace, and it isn't more than twenty minutes before you reach the surface. What you find is a city in ruins. At least three-quarters of the buildings have been destroyed, fires burn everywhere, and the sky is filled with ash and smoke. The cultists cheer and immediately charge off to begin looting and searching for survivors. Your three companions simply stand aghast.
You're near the bottom middle of the map, just to the left of the path through the destroyed wall.
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia looks around at her companions.
"What? Now the mongrel men dont have to worry about these guys anymore and we are out. Shall we try and figure out whats left around here? Maybe find Anevia and the elf some medical support?"
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Your companions are clearly too devastated by the state of their city to care about the mongrelmen. All three of them begin talking at the same time, and you're hard-pressed to make out the specifics. From what you can gather, Anevia wants to see if her wife is okay, Aravashniel wants to make sure his library is intact, and Horgus is demanding to be brought home. Each of them appears quite insistent and is pointing in a different direction.
Also, you're Level Two now. :-)
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
"Alright quiet everyone. That's enough of that. We should take Horgus home first. Then Anevia, then Aravashniel. Just bare with me a bit longer and we will all be out of this with what we want."
Diplo: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Horgus leads you toward the middle-right section of the city. Astonishingly, his manor is one of the only buildings in the area that remains intact. In fact, aside from the front doors lying open, it appears untouched. Inside, Horgus leads you to a well-hidden vault and retrieves a pouch. "You did an adequate job of getting me safely home. Above average, even. This should be more than enough compensation for your effort." Once he gives you the pouch, Horgus politely but obviously shoos you away. "I'll be fine here, and I'm sure you have other things to do."
Gain 1,000gp
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia smiles. I did not explect I would ever say this to you but "Thank you. It is most generous. Stay safe." Die in a hole
She turns to the two remaining. "Lets go find your wife, Anevia. Then we shall get to your library." She nods to the elf. "Where to now?"
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Anevia's house is located a district to the north of where Horgus lives. It's a small, three-room structure that appears simple but homey. It's seems to have survived the destruction quite well. The front door is locked but opens easily once Anevia inserts her key. Shortly after you enter, however, a fire beetle materializes and attacks Anevia!
Celia The Beguiling Betrayer |
Celia springs into action, stepping in front of Anevia and the fire beetle. She looks it up and down and finds a weak spot.

You feel your life leaving you, but instead of joining Pharasma's Boneyard line, you're drawn in a completely-different direction. Past all of the various planes, through the Dark Tapestry, farther than you ever imagined possible, you travel until you arrive in, oddly-enough, a pure white room. After a brief moment, a door opens, and a young woman walks in.
"Well, hello there, miss Celia. I'd wondered when I'd see you again."

Celia doesn't say anything.
