"Chicago's an important town," Tyrell shrugs, "But you know how Lodin is. Whatever else he may be, Modius is at least more.. accomodating."

"He is here at the Prince's request, a spy in our midst one who has pulled the wool over the eyes of the Kindred who is supposed to be protecting us. What isn't dangerous about that?"

Tyrell

"Yes Lodin, not accommodating. The more things change the more they stay the same..."

Attending to the Prince

"Ah yes Walker. He sent me a letter declining my invitation and said he would send his Childe in his stead to fulfill whatever duties would fall upon his shoulders. Welcome".

He pauses and looks at the Neonates around him, "There is much strength here. Feel free to mingle and meet the power brokers of Gary, such as they are, and each other. John brings us good tidings that I will share once the party winds down and our less eh... enlightened guests begin to depart".

Brad's mind began to race. This wasn't just a power game, the Prince had something in mind. Nothing about that will be good. Even best case, which was unlikely, it could only raise Brad's profile. He wasn't even supposed to be in Gary, but Mr. Garwood insisted. He knew best.

With a respectful nod to the Prince, Brad took his leave and drifted over somewhere he could observe the gathering without being too obvious.

"Of course he did." Charlotte replies dryly.

She forces herself to give a slight bow. "I am happy to serve however I can, of course." She nods to Michael with a smile, "Though I must say that I would prefer a Prince Myshkin to a Lodin."

Morag looks around searching for any other Ventrue attending the party. Might as well say hello and see whats going on with them.

When she runs across another kindred she begins a long academic dicussion about the importance of the Ventrue clan in the history of the Cainites. She is careful not to speak with hearing of mortals, but can't help talking about her clan's position in the hierarchy.

Impressed by a number of the details that his sire hadn't bothered to share, he checks to ensure there are no prying kine ears and injects, "I see there is much I need to get up to speed on. My focus of the last few years has been on opportunities in the modern world without regard as to how it came to be. I now see how some of these historical elements could have direct bearing on relations within and outside of the clan.

BAPTISM OF FIRE - Thursday - December 31, 1992Modius' Manse

The night progresses without a hitch or a hint of what is to come. Amazing really that Modius could throw such a large party with so many Kindred and so many Mortals and have it be so g%!*#&ned boring!

Most of the guests begin to get tired and head out well before 11. By the time Midnght is almost upon you all only a handful of Mortals are still present.

Tyrone Anderson, the young man that Morag fed upon and a few other stragglers still hanging near the mysterious man that Tyrell spoke with earlier.

Modius stares at the door at 11:55, "Where is that arrogant bastard?" He blurts out. "He will be punished for his tardiness to my court I will not tolerate such behavior!" The woman at his side rubs his arm trying to calm him down.

At 11:59, Modius raises a glass to toast with all of you, though the liquid inside none of you including he can actually drink. The enigmatic figure holds up a glass though Lucian declines to do so, "May we discover the beauty that we cannot share"...

At that moment, a commotion can be heard from the front barging in are a group of several Mortals to a man (and the two women) each is clearly highly intoxicated and all wear differing lampshades.

"God this party sucks Modius! But then you would know all about sucking wouldn't you!" a voice bellows from the foyer. The man enters with a beautiful woman on his arm both sans lampshades.

Juggler

Evelyn

"Aren't you glad I am here to liven it up?" Some of you know him, it is the Anarch Juggler.

"What is the meaning of..." Modius states as he approaches Juggler. But before he can reach him Juggler rushes in, a bit too fast, to the CD player and pops out the classical music popping in something a bit less appropriate.

Rage Against the Machine

He then scoops up the woman who has been standing at Modius' side most of the night and begins dancing with her. The raven haired girl fades back and away from Modius as Juggler rushes into the room.

The Mortals then all begin to dance and thrash violently on the dance floor.

Shane is tempted to laugh, but doesn't dare. This guy may have saved the party, but at the Prince's expense maybe he can..yeah, why not?

He moves to the Prince and says, "Brilliant move, sir, bringing a professional comedian to juxtopose the elegance. I see I was redundant in my costume. Bravo" Trying to sound like yes, the prince was clever and arranged this.

Male 8th Generation Gangrel

"Damn kids," Kent mutters, starting to head to the CD player. When someone else heads for it though, he instead just hangs back and rolls up his sleeves. He thinks for a moment about heading out onto the dance floor, then just shrugs to himself. Not his problem. When Shane comments to Modius on his cleverness, Kent scoffs loudly. Even he knew there was no saving face from this.

Dalton does his best to hold back a laugh as Juggler makes a mockery of Modius's gathering.

Tyrell lets out a slow breath, temporarily forgetting he no longer has need of such niceties. You'd better have a damn good reason for this, Juggler, he thinks to himself. Irritatingly, the truth is, he probably does. But would it have been too damn much trouble to tell me about it? He moves over to Tyrone, who is still here and probably a bit confused by what's going on.

"Things are probably about to get ugly," Tyrell tells his fellow lawyer. "I know this a&%&@!*, and he and Modius aren't exactly friends. You, ah, might want to finish up your partying for the night somewhere else."

Despite Shane's attempt, Modius does not calm down. He closes the double doors, "That is quite enough! They have seen too much! To protect the sanctity of the Masquerade these Mortals must all die!"

The few Mortals at the party seem somewhat into the music until Modius' announcement where an odd look of confusion crosses their faces as if they are not quite sure what he said or they heard it and simply do not believe it. Well the relatively sober ones anyway, the lampshade folk do not appear to have heard the comment at all.

Tyrone turns to Tyrell, "Uh, what the hell's that supposed to mean?"

The seated Kindred replies to Rick's question, "Local Anarch named Juggler. Kind of a dick but he has his moments, like now".

Bradley and Dalton see Morgrym stalk towards the hallway.

Iron John stares hard at the interloper in the leather jacket but if he notices he does not acknowledge the big man.

Morag makes her way over to the CD player and shuts it off.

Kent, Julian, and Patrick stay pat as does Charlotte and Randolph.

James finds the Raven Haired girl all smiles, "Yeah, I am supposed to be a... announced"...

Juggler just laughs...

At the moment, pitch black. The light coming through the doorway illuminates Modius and Shane but nothing else.

12th Generation Ventrue Max Blood Pool/Current: 10/10 | Willpower 5/5

What have they scene? Nothing but a crazy bunch of people dancing with lampshades on their head, and a man who moves quickly.

Morag moves up next to Modius. "Sir are you sure you want us to um "take care" of so many mortals at once. Surely the authorities would notice so many missing, and that might draw more attention to us than a few drunken stories about a man that moves too fast." she tries to calm him well aware there will more than likely be consequences for her audacity.

When the lights go out, Randolph backs up to the nearest wall, then slowly slides down into a crouch.

Male 8th Generation Gangrel

"Are you insane? How do you plan on explaining this to the cops?" Kent is about to continue the line of questioning when the lights shut off, and Kent lets out a low growl. "Nope, I've had enough of this." Even Kent can't see through the pitch darkness, but he tilts his head up into the air and breathes deeply through his nose. He gives a few sniffs of the air before he does his best to hunt out Juggler by scent instead of sight and head out after him onto the dance floor. He pushes his way through Kindred and mortal alike, following his nose until he finds the anarch in the crowd.

Wits + Awareness: 5d10 ⇒ (2, 1, 7, 10, 8) = 28

Kent has Acute Sense of Smell, so I figured he'd do his best to track Juggler down on the dance floor and figure out what's going on. He's also get Acute Vision, but I didn't figure that'd be useful if it's pitch black.

9th Generation Gangrel | Bloodpool: 9/14 | Willpower: 6/7

Dalton's first reaction is to utilize the most basic of protean's powers, but thinks better of it at the last second as he remembers the mortals in the next room.

Damnit. That's what I get for relying on these powers too much, never would have been without a flashlight of some sort before...

Dalton then begins to slowly make his way toward Lucian's last known location as best he can.

Better to take the embarrassment than look like he snubbed the Prince. Suppressing a sigh, Brad tried to slip up to where he'd last seen one of the more drunken mortals. Maybe he could get a drink out of it.

Morag follows the silhouette of Modius by the door and speaks to him. He turns to her, "Yes, yes I suppose you are right that would be best". Shane remains right there.

Kent tries to follow Juggler in the crowd but the stench of alcohol is so strong he simply cannot locate someone he barely has the scent for. As you turn to try and catch another whiff, a large form steps right to you attempting to slide you out of the way.

Iron John you start moving through the crowd imposing your will on those who stand in your way about half way through the crowd though you find someone a bit more sturdy in build and he is not so easy to shove aside.

Dalton moves along the wall backwards to Lucian and find yourself standing next to whatever man was speaking with him, Rick you believe it was. No band just a CD player so you assume no mic.

Randolph makes himself small just in case any violence breaks out.

Bradley manages to slide next to a drunken man who is still dancing to his own beat... Dexterity+Brawl DC 7 to grapple the man.

Patrick pulls himself behind a large houseplant as the sounds of chaos erupt from the dance floor. Except for the front door silhouette he can't see much.

Tyrell grabs Ty and tries to get to the bar but the dance floor is too crowded and someone seems to be shoving people making your path that much more difficult!

James can't see a damn thing, not even the pretty girl next to him and is unable to navigate through the confused or oblivious partygoers that the Anarch has brought to crash the event.

Charlotte manages to get down the hallway and to a room.

Morgrym is still in the basement when he hears the generator kick in providing emergency power for the lights that were shut off.

Then the back up generator flares to life and the lights come back on. Julian remained in place.

Juggler it turns out moved to occupy a seat next to the mystery guest who seems somewhat bemuse by the occurrence. It seems he left Allicia in the middle of the dance floor. Which is where a quarter of the Kindred end up.

Modius steps forward, "Happy New Year everyone, please come see me that I can provide you with a parting gift!" You ca all feel his presence wash over you as the Mortals begin to follow him to his office. He glares at Juggler but says nothing further, at least not yet.

It seems the Prince will be occupied for a few minutes, actions?

male Human Code name: "Black out" (soon to be Lasombra 9th generation)

Perhaps Morgrym had either purchased the lives of the mortals or their end in the dark and protected the kindred from discovery. Either way the back up generator would not be turned off now without being able to find its location so Morgrym slides back up into the party to see what may have happened.

Male 8th Generation Gangrel

"Hey, watch it!" When the lights flicker back on, Kent immediately notices the huge man towering over most of the others. Before he has a chance to say anything though, he spots Juggler off near the mystery guest. He stomps over and stares at the anarch, his eyes narrowed. "What the hell is going on here? Pulling sh*t like this... I don't know what he owes you to let you get away with this." Kent sticks one finger in Juggler's face. "But you're pissing me off, and I don't owe you a damn thing."

John apologizes to the man (Kent?) he tried to move aside, and (with the lights coming back on) instead moves to stand next to Allicia. "What a freakin' creep. I'm unfamiliar with the politics around here, but when Modius draws the normals away, is it okay if we kick his ass?"

Brad was just about to try the mortal when the lights came back up. Was that a test? He considered doing it anyway, but then everyone would see him bite a guy on the neck. Bystanders might get involved.
