Grelda Bonehammer |
"No fires. I don't need light to see down here, anyway. I'll take first watch."
Jolis Cailean |
"As long as you 'magic-types' get the 6 or 8 hours of sleep to get your spells back, or something or other", fussed Jolis as he released his bedroll from it's straps on his backback.
"I'll go second..", pondered the big warrior, "or would it be better for the magic types to get their watches out of the way, so they can get the concentrated sleep they need?"
Stormspeaker Vitranna |
Vitranna answers Valeriya's question pointedly.
"This is one of the safest-looking camping sites I've seen in this dreaded jungle. It may be early, but if we rest HERE and now, we can leave early tomorrow and make up most of the time. Grelda is good at that. Besides...we are not on a time-table are we?"
Jolis Cailean |
Jolis smiles at Vitranna's shoanti logic. Snapping his fingers, the big warrior continues to rummage through his backpack, eventually finding his playing cards, and begins to shuffle.
"So, what shall we play first? Regular or strip poker?"
Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
Looks around the space and things it looks safe as well.
Richard Groves |
Richard agrees that the place is great fallback position. All they would have to do is mark the trapdoors along the route on the map, to give them multiple entry points while above. He shakes his head. I don't understand it. Every instinct tells me that these tunnels should connect up all the research stations. It also bothers me that no mode of transport is here. He points to one of the ladders heading down. I'd like to go lower before we camp. Let's see what we can see
Valeriya |
"You're probably right, Richard, but I do want to see Jolis strip," Lera says as she flips a copper piece at Jolis. "Take it all off, you dirty boy!"

Stormspeaker Vitranna |
Vitranna nods and points to Valeriya.
"That's fine. As she says...the day is not finished yet. We can explore a little more without too much trouble...and NO strip poker. Keep your pants on while we are out here in the wilderness please. The last thing I want to do Jolis is fight any possible enemy while your privates are swinging around more energetically than your sword!"
With that said Vitranna looks to examine the older tracks in the dust to make sure they are humanoid at least.

Grelda shrugs and continues leading the way.
Valeriya |
Vitranna nods and points to Valeriya. "That's fine. As she says...the day is not finished yet. We can explore a little more without too much trouble...and NO strip poker. With that said Vitranna looks to examine the older tracks in the dust to make sure they are humanoid at least.
"But think of how distracting it would be for our enemies. I'm totally thinking tactically here. Honest." Needless to say, Lera's "honest" smile is unconvincing.

The last thing I want to do Jolis is fight any possible enemy while your privates are swinging around more energetically than your sword!"
"You..seem to have put a lot of thought into that statement", smirks Jolis. "Sounds like something you've had on your mind for a while now."
"Either way, who says I would lose at strip poker. Perhaps at the end of the game, we all got to see your massive shoanti yurts."Stormspeaker Vitranna |
Vitranna looks at Jolis with an dreaded inner fire in her gaze. Unblinking and un-moving she stares at the man, upon whom she MUST be imagining fireying torments by the worst punishment imaginable in the deepest hell that exist! Her fury is the storm, her forgivness...nonexistent.
She points with her large spear down the tunnel where Richard wants to explore.
"You. Are. In. Front. NOW."
Suddenly her spear lights up with electricity, flaring and blinding the group in the near-darkness of the tunnel.
Spending one use of her Thunderstaff ability to try and intimidate Jolis for the moment.

Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
Miya seems to be find in the darkness, her clothing now dark. A Rapier in her hand, from somewhere she has three Throwing Dagger strapped to each leg where she could get the quickly. She seemed to be walking with her eyes closed. Then as the light comes on, she opens her eyes, looking at Richard,
"Stay close"
She said,
Jolis Cailean |
Jolis's Initimidate DC 15, so he is intimidated.
Grabbing his backpack and bedroll, along with cramming his playing deck in his spocket, Jolis quickly walks past Vitranna to take his position up front. Yet in true Jolis fashion, the big warrior glances at the shaonti's breasts as he runs by.
With Jolis still using his ioun stone, the light radius moves to the front, in which the big warrior sees Miya's clothes have changed.
"Looking good, sexy monk."
Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
"And you Sir Jolis meat shield"
She says jokingly
Valeriya |
Valeriya pinches her nose in frustration. "Oh, Jolis. Thank the gods you're pretty because you have no subtlety. Were only your wit as sharp as your sword."

Jolis Cailean |
Looking back to Lera, Jolis takes a pull from his waterskin. "Sublety? I tried that once. I didn't like it", winked the warrior.
GM Mimi |
With that said Vitranna looks to examine the older tracks in the dust to make sure they are humanoid at least.
All of the tracks you see come from ordinary boots, human sized or smaller. Nothing stands out as odd about them.
Let's see what we can see
Climbing down the nearest ladder, you eventually step down into another chamber, much like the one you first entered. There's more than enough room here for everyone to stand. There's another door here as well, like the one you came in through, with a heavy, metal latch securing it closed.
As you all reach the bottom of the ladder, a low, rumbling sound echoes throughout the chamber like the entire cliffside is yawning, even as the earth remains still. A voice so deep you can feel it in your chest speaks up in old Vudrani.
<<Such loud mortals, clambering on like children. You are disturbing my rest. Lower your voices, won't you?>>
Jolis Cailean |
Stormspeaker Vitranna |
"Sublety? I tried that once. I didn't like it", winked the warrior.
Vitranna sniffs loudly at Jolis's comment, and whispers casually to those that remain nearby.
"Translation: He failed utterly at it and decided it was 'too hard' to try again."
<<Such loud mortals, clambering on like children. You are disturbing my rest. Lower your voices, won't you?>>
Taken aback by the strange voice, Vitranna tries to make sense of the strange words as she grips her spear tightly.

Hearing Jolis casually speak in the same language calms her nerves a little however.

Richard Groves |
Richard stops Jolis with a hand on his massive shoulder. He shakes his head at the fighter. He's the AI, so to speak. I figured we'd run across something like this. Go Ahead and translate please for the rest of the group.
Unfortunately, time has taken it's toll on this facility, and one of the specimen collectors has gone rogue. It has been bringing ships and people here for some untold years...
...or maybe it's not a random broken piece of technology. Maybe you have been unconsciously beckoning for help during your dream filled slumber. And it is us who have been the first to answer your call directly. Whatever the reason, we are here to put the island in order and fix everyone's problem. Can you assist?
Assist Jolis maybe:D

GM Mimi |
There is a brief pause as the entity seems to consider your words. <<As I suspected. You do not work for the Binders. If what you say is true, then they have long abandoned this place.>>
<<I know nothing of the Binders' machines, and have no power over them. My only task is to maintain these tunnels - and if what you say is true, then it is a task I no longer need to perform. Yet I remain trapped here.>>
<<If the deaths of my masters has not freed me, then there must be some other force holding me. If you can aid me, then I will repay such a debt in any way that I can.>>
Stormspeaker Vitranna |
After hearing Joli's translation, Vitranna speaks up.
"Binders. Prisoner? He's a prisoner here?"
Knowledge(Arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
My guess is that's not good enough to figure out he's probably talking about "Genie Binders"...which means this place s built on 'wish' magic. Crap.
Jolis Cailean |
Valeriya |
"There yet remains another possibility. Perhaps the failure of the Binders' death to free this being is because they aren't actually dead."
Also, Vitranna, genies are outsiders so the appropriate knowledge check is planes.

Also, Vitranna, genies are outsiders so the appropriate knowledge check is planes.
I know. But I don't have Knowledge Planes...and you can't make untrained knowledge checks under most circumstances. Vitranna does have Knowledge Arcana...and Genie Binder are variant arcanists usually. So I was trying to hit the information I was looking for 'through the back door' so to speak and was denied by a bad roll. Just ask Jolis, I'm sure that's happened to him multiple times... =)
Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
Miya has been paying heed and now she felt she had an idea of what is going on.
"So an elemental or Gllum somewhere, wants out, but if it goes will the nice caves fall in."
Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
She walks a little ahead, her clothing now all black, simple and combat ready. She slides a black blade into her belt, checks the throwing daggers strapped to her upper legs. She has a hood on and with a brush of her hand her hair goes black and her skin darkens.
She pulls her blade and tests it, then her boot dagger, she checks the belt Richard made for her, each item on it in turn.
"Ask it where it is?"
Jolis Cailean |
Gazing in surprise at Miya's new look, Jolis asks, "You can change your appearance?! Is it only people or can you become animals or objects?"
Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
"A simple magic, just changes color of things, hair, eyes skin. Helps me hide."
As you look you see her actual size and shape is the same, it's just color of things that have got darker.
Sorry was not clear, only Richard knows she can full shift form. this was not a full shape change but just colors and clothing
Jolis Cailean |
"Nice!" Jolis exclaims. "Kinda like my sleeves of many garments but for your whole body."
I'm aware your true nature isn't revealed yet, Miya. Just playing along. Besides, when Jolis finds out about your full abilities, Jolis has a list.
Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
"Yes just like that"
She says adding.
"I can do other things but that will have to wait, we have mystery voice to find".
GM Mimi |
Assuming someone is translating the relevant bits
<<I crafted these tunnels myself. Even without my presence, they will stand for many years to come. I will unlock all of the doors here for you when you need to use them. But beyond these walls, I have no power.>>
The voice sounds sincere, and true to its word, the door against the south wall unlocks with a loud clack.

Jolis Cailean |
Jolis still translates for the others as he investigates the southern wall door.

"Ask it where it is?"
Richard relates the question from Miya. He taps Jolis. Anything beyond this point, allow me to scout and search for traps. I think it would be the most prudent.

Vitranna, on full guard nods heavily.
"Agreed. You seem the best choice for such endeavors Richard. We will follow you. We step where you step for now."
Miya Setsuko Fuyaki |
As Richard moves so dose Miya showing him every move guarding him as she dose. Her ninja clothing letting her hide in the dark of the tunnels.
Her blade is also black, having no sheen.

<<Names hold power, of which I hold precious little now. I should like to keep that which I still have.>>
The south door opens into another tunnel, leading further underground. From what you can tell, the builders didn't bother with traps this far in. The voice gives you directions as you go, leading you to him.
<<These tunnels will not take you all the way to your destination. However, they will get you as far as the main road. I will guide you the best that I can.>>
To be clear, you're trying to find the genie atm, right?
Jolis Cailean |
Yeah.
Stormspeaker Vitranna |
Vitranna mutters to herself.
"Too easy. I don't like it..."
