a soft laugh is all Anduriel hears, but she sees a big smile on his face.
He whispers back..true...
He turns around again as if this were not a problem at all. At some point he stops to allow the others to regroup and figure out our next path to take to our goal. While he is waiting, he takes another nip from his wine skin.

Damari does his best to keep an eye out for surprises as the skulkers move in. But quickly loses track of them as they get closer to the cave mouth. He turns to Serill, Lily and Dalen.

"So assuming we get an all clear to move in, what do you all think for a plan of action? Try to drag one off for an interrogation or shoot first, no question later?"

"A quick strike would be better. If they have spies, our best option is to take them out hear first, then wait in ambush. If we can, we can just try to wound them and take them out of the fight, but that's risky even when you're not outnumbered. We may just have to hope that they have something written their journals or that we manage to save one of them after taking them out," Dalen says.

As you approach, and then reach, the entrance, you do not take note of any guards or the such. Even a look into the cave reveals nothing or there. Perhaps the group here have grown complacent? Who knows. But none of you see any signs that you have been discovered.

you cast your spell, and suddenly a sickly pale green light can be seen hovering in the tunnel entrance, covering it and more. It is thin, stretched to cover the entire entrances.

Alistair crouches down to examine the ground going into the cave. His knowledge is limited in the field of magic and will wait as Anduriel scans the area. Standing still and watching
Survival:checking for tracks: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
I can not make out anything on the ground here, Elaina can you help me locate any tracks? There might be another way that they go in
Survival:Aid another: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Once we know it is safe to proceed, we should bring up the others

Muttering to himself in a low voice
Probably a spell of sorts to warn them of intruders, might be why there are no guards...but this is not my specialty

When Anduriel is done with her spell, Alistair whispers to her.
If you can help me...show me where the edge of the spell is, I should be able to locate and disarm the magic.

Where is the magic coalescing for the focal point of the spell?
Disable Device+1 for traps: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31

Technically the spell isn't a trap, so doesn't fall under the purview of being disabled via disable device.

You fiddle with the magic a bit. But soon find you can't find any focal point the magic is being projected from. You do however manage to keep from setting off whatever magical effect this is.

"You know what's a good idea? When you ask someone what something does, you stop talking long enough for them to tell you." Anduriel says in a harsh whisper. "You just came THIS close to setting off an alarm spell. There's no mechanism involved, the area is warded. It'll need to be either bypassed, countered or dispelled."

Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19 DM what would be some of the most common forest critters around here if I can say I know the area a little?

Eliana, Alistair, you both notice the grass is bent and crushed a bit at the entrance. It seems many seem to follow a path along the small cliffside to the forest. Opposite of the side you chose.

Serill, you figure that most of the wildlife out at this time would be owls and other nocturnal creatures to any temperate forest. Maybe a few wild boars as well.

EDIT: well since now we know of the path
With a glance over his shoulder at Elaina as he walks by her, Alistair will take his time examining the grass path that leads away from the direction they came in.
Survival: Tracks: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
His eyes are searching the path for any obstacle that could be a trap and to see that there are no guards posted.

Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

You couldn't have seen it until you got closer, the crunch grass was covered by the rest of the grass.

It seems that this path is one used by any entering or leaving the place. Likely to help hide the fact that cave is in use. There are also no signs of anyone.

just to clarify, are you moving to follow the path, or just scrutinizing it?

ok let me see if am getting this right...
this path that we just found...is it a path that is used to travel to and from the cave:meaning the main entrance is the cave entrance that we are at right now
or
does this path lead around to another entrance...by the forest?
sorry just trying to figure this out.

no its fine, apologies. The path you found leads -from- the forest to the cave entrance. It is likely the path anyone coming and going from the cave would take. Probably to hide it from passing observations.

"If it were that easy it wouldn't be very effective would it? There are only 3 ways to disable it. One is to use dispelling magic, which is pretty damn complex. The second is casting a silence spell in the general area, which'll only work if it's a general alarm, it won't stop the silent mental alarm from telling the caster there's an intruder." Anduriel says checking the methods off on her fingers, for once the usually cocky swagger gone, displaying an intellect beyond what she usually displays. "The third is to know the password, which is the idea behind getting a hold of someone. Other than that, it'll go off as long as anything enters the zone, and they were'nt stupid. Unless you can come up with a way to burrow underground or become incorporeal, there's no way to pass it without triggering it."

She turns and looks towards Lily and Serill to see if they knew anything she'd missed.

Male half-Umbral Dragon Human Wizard(Exploiter/Pact)/Alchemist(Mindchemist/Internal) 4 HP: 59[+12 temp]/59 Saves: 12/10/8 AC: 24/16/20 CMD: 24 Initiative: +10 Perception: +9 AR: 5/7

"Regrettably, a silencing spell I can not prepare for until tomorrow. Much of my energy is already spent today. Without a password or some other secret entrance..." Serill doesn't have another plan to put forward.

As you quietly discuss what to do, Serill and Alistair notice someone stumbling as if drunk through the trees on the far side of the clearing. After a bit, they start to walk along the path Alistair noted earlier when they were scouting. T

Male HP:76/76 AC:30 T:20 FF:21 F:+8 R:+14 W:+7 Perc:+12 Init:+10 Swashbucklers Rapier +19, 1d6+10 CMB:+9 CMD:+25 Human Swashbuckler 9 (Inspired Blade)

Taking one last draw from his wine skin, Alistair returns it to his back pack. He steps away from the tree and looks at the group.
Alright lets get this show on the road
Those are all good ideas. All of them have merit of some sort or another. Dalen, you surprise me for I was willing to bet you would propose some sort of attack down the middle and into the cave itself. I was thinking of that tactic myself. If we knew more of the details inside, that would not be such a bad idea....but we have an innocent captive in there, so that would not be wise
Alistair paces a bit as he thinks
There is a 4th way to disable such a spell, unfortunate the ward is laid out in such a manner that I am unable to manipulate the magical ley lines in order to disable it. Anduriel, do you remember if you saw a focal point of the spell on an object...If this spell is being cast from a item as you know we can identify the item with your detect magic spell which would give us the password needed.
He continues to pace
We could use the fox trick to set it off and wait till they investigate the entrance. We would not need to nab anyone. We just need to be close enough to hear the spoken password...or able to take it from their mind.
Alistair looks over at Serill as he says these last words.
My suggestion is this
But before we do anything like this we need to do more planning. Right now we only have a vague idea of what we are up against. Once we get inside we should check everything we come across before we move forward. We will need to infiltrate quickly and quietly. We could get lucky and find our captive and get out right away. Once she is safe we can then lay waste to most of them.
He stops and a smile creeps onto his face
The instructors from my training days told me that a good leader learns to use the strengths and weaknesses of those under his charge. I am no leader but her words are solid. We get the password and then we assault as a large group...leading the way should be those that are more stealthy and can detect those things that can not be seen by most people. I will take point on this with Andureil and Elaina. The ladies are very good at being quiet, Anduriel can detect magic and Elaina has the range capability. The second group should be close to the first group. I recommend Dalen to lead that group with Lily, Serill in the middle and Damari covering with his bow from the rear. The casters stay in the middle to give them cover from range attackers and enabling them to use their spells with out fear of being attacked. I am guessing that bows will be limited in this cave complex so be ready with a backup weapon. Do we have enough spells left to continue on? We should move the horses closer, so that if things go south we can get riding quickly.
He looks around at everyone waiting for the hellstorm of objections to come flowing out. He lets his eyes wonder from person to person and as the fall on Serill
I know you do.....
He stops as he and Serill hear someone moving towards the cave entrance.
Well we have a visitor coming to the cave right now. We might just get lucky and get the password without a subterfuge.
Alistair move along the path towards the cave. He is hoping to catch the person before the get to the cave and observed them before the can get to the cave entrance and within earshot. He give a look at Anduriel and Elaina before he disappears from sight
come on lets go

Anduriel, you can detect a faint air of magic about the man. He doesn't notice any of you and slowly stumbles his way to the cave. He is wearing what appears to be a farmers outfit. If no one stops him, he steps into the cave entrances and then stops, looking around as if in a haze. However you aren't sure if he is actually registering anything that is going on.
