Flesh and Bone-A zombiepocalypse story

Game Master concerro

The party enters a world much different than the one many of them left 3 years ago. Many cities have been abandoned. Those cities that are still occupied are under martial law to a large extent.
People are very afraid of the world, and for good

Uchendu nods gravely.

"Hopefully, dere be some way to set the Spirits to rest again..."

Andreas looks at the Professor "Do you think the Starstone might be able to stop this or a person who passes it's test would." he then looks down "Maybe that is what started this in the first place."

Dr.Frennel responds "I don't really know much about the Starstone except that it is a powerful device. Even if someone passed the test I suppose taking up a certain portfolio as a deity would be required."

Draven chimes in "I got the wagon fixed, and I am about to pull the horses out of the general store. We might want to get moving as soon as the last body is buried. Oh, I did find this wand, but I don't have the ability to use it."

He then goes to retrieve the wand from another building.
It is an empowered wand of cure light wounds with 25 charges that heals 1d8+3.

Haundo returns with the puppy in hand, his armored bulk is easily heard as he doesn't try to be quiet. His helm is still up and doesn't take notice to any pointed stares at his strange facial features. He points to the buildings around them as he approaches the little girl. "Has all of these been cleared out? I don't want to leave one of them behind. Best we crush them before they gather again..."

He gives the little girl a small toothy grin as he kneels and presents her with her missing companion. "Safe as I promised, a Nightwatchmen never fails."

Draven responds saying that there is one building they did not check. It is the court house/local jail.

Dagor, without hesitation, picks up his axe over his shoulder and asks which one that would be. Upon direction, unless someone stops him, Dagor goes to check the one building they did not check. "Let's give it a look, then. After that, we head out, right Professor?"

at the courthouse/jail

Approaching the building, Dagor slows to a cautious pace. The ensuing silence is broken by a mild chuckle by him. Reminds me of Saggorak. Always seemed to hide in the last hole left unchecked. Used to sweat like a furnace blower boy back then. Hope there is something in there. Alive and grateful or dead and soon to be just that again. If anyone is there with him, he speaks softly. "Unless you have one of those detect undead spells, follow me in. Expect that they're just drooling in there, itchin' to have a bite of us." He moves next to the door, just offset to the right side of it. Waiting about eighteen seconds readied to strike undead that may emerge, he listens before checking inside.

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

Andreas a bit slow after looking at all of the bodies now in the pyre and thinking if the power of the Starstone might stop this.

Something gets his attention, one building still might have these abominations in it. He see Dagor grab his weapon and head toward the Jail Andreas follows in silence.

Andreas looks at the building knowing that they will find something horrible inside. Prisoners that had been left inside eating each other making a nice nest. He draws his Rapier, whispering back"I have no spells to check, but I have a bad feeling that they are inside. He readies himself to follow Dagor inside.

I need more useful spells, LOL.

Athanasius decides to tag along also.
When you enter the building you see two desks. Further towards the back walls you see two occupied cells. The creatures held in there are no longer alive, but neither are they dead. They are wolf zombies. There is a heavy wooden door off to the right.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

"We should probably deal with dose.", Uchendu says, nodding towards the wolves.

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

Moving toward the cells "Let's get to it."

"Have we checked the exterior of the building? We should make certain there are no additional means of escape for the things."
Pausing for a moment to consider his own words. "Of course, they have seldom seen need for such before..."

"Easy pickings."

Dagor moves in but waits for the others to dispatch the wolves from a safe distance.

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

@ Watcher can the wolves be dispatched by bow without any issue.

Yes they can. For the sake of saving time we will just say it happened since they can't really fight back from where they are.

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

@Everyone: Haundo can peer through closed doors, like clairvoyance, 4 times per day. So long as the doors aren't 7 inches think he can perform this ability. So we can do some scouting without exposing ourselves.

Haundo hands the girl back her puppy and follows everyone over to the jail. He reiterates his ability to see through doors in case the others had forgotten in their long travels, before circling the building for anymore entry's/exit's.

Huando is going to search for other ways in and makes sure either their barred or clear before following the others. He is currently armed with his pistol and is ready to defend himself.

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

Cool, So Andreas will shoot them with his short bow."

Haundo wrote:

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

Andreas puts away his bow after dispatching the wolves, he redraws his rapier and waits for the ok to head into the next room.

Huando can see high quality weapons. The weapons are strewn about as if they someone(s) were in a rush to grab what they could. There are other items in there also, but you will have to dig through them to see what else you can find.

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

@Watcher: I am assuming this is on the otherside of the door everyone is standing by?

Door Sight: 3/4 remaining for the day

It takes Haundo about a minute to detach his spirit, to the others it looks like his eyes take on a dead like stare, totally unfocused as he continues to place his hand on the door. In his spirit like state he passes through the door head first and growls silently as he looks around the otherside in search of possible enemies. After about a minute of looking he nods his head in satisfactory and slips quietly back into his body.

He stands, albeit shakily, as he looks to the others. "Weapons, lots of them scattered on the otherside. Good quality too. May be other things in the piles, so watch your step. Other then that I saw nothing else..."

He keeps his pistol out and, when the door is opened, plunges through the gap Bulwark first and his pistol aimed through the viewport in case he made a mistake.

Time to loot some stuff and arm those NPC's with better weapons :p

Yes the goodies are on the other side. The door is locked however..

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

lol my bad~

As Haundo smacks into the door, he backs off with a sheepish slump to his shoulders. "Anyone got a key?"

Perception: Search looking for a key~ 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

Andreas looks around for either a key or some lock picks

What is the break DC for the door? Along with Hardness and HP? Please =) Or are you keeping that a secret so we make attempts to see if we get lucky? ;)

"If the key we're lackin', then I get to smashin'! This is why you shouldn't build locked doors out of wood. Stand aside." He takes a breath, and begins battering the door with his warhammer two handed, intent to whittle it down with repeated blows.

Assuming its a heavy door, hardness 5, 20 HP. Auto-hits, power attacks.

4th round: 1d8 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 6 - 5 = 9 (26)

The door is smashed by Dagor.
You immediately see:
+1 battleaxe
+1 musket
+1 chainshirt
6 mastwork longswords
5 masterwork daggers
2 masterwork glaives
+1 scalemail

I am bypassing the spellcraft checks to identify magical items since we are doing pbp.

Browsing the items, Dagor leaves it all for party loot.

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

Andreas looks at the pile of items then wants to check out the rest of the building to make sure there are no more zombies.

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

Haundo, packs up what he can and elects to use the magical battleaxe for now in lieu of his well made axe. From there he follows the others and continues investigating the jail.

Was that all there was for the Jail? If so Haundo is going to begin systematically checking each of the houses, despite the all clear those caravaners gave them. Haundo has misgivings about not checking things out himself. I am sure this is going to land him in a heap of trouble one day. ;)

That is all that you can immediately see. The room is in a mess.
hint hint

Dagor searches the room, turning over the piles.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

After spending a few minutes digging though the useless stuff that was left behind, and opening a small crate the party finds:

10 torches
2 pints lamp oil.
3 bull lanterns
20 rations
5 waterskins.
wand of lesser restoration(25 charges)
2 masterwork healer's kits
1 wand of create water.
Zheng Lu's Encyclopedia of the Deities-A large book on the various religions of the world (gives +3 competence bonus to knowledge religion checks when used/ 1 move action).
3 modified beartraps, [b]not set[b]. (disable device 26) 4d6 damage. DC 25 escape artist check or DC 22 strength check to open the trap.
3 special keys to open the bear traps.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu eyes the items that have been collected together solemnly.

"We should be careful with what we be findin' here; who knows when we might be findin' more supplies, with the world going mad..."

Does anyone wish to claim anything specific? Uchendu is not much of a combatant, so he will not claim any of the weapons, but he would be willing to carry the wands (although they would, technically, be party items), and the book.

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

I could use the Chain Mail +1 but it might be better for more a frontliner.

"Let's wrap up all of the fragile items then see if we can outfit the villagers with some of those weapons."

Athanasius does not claim any of the weapons or armor. He does volunteer to go with Haundo to search any of the remaining buildings, however.

With the search of the prison completed, Dagor returns to the civilians, waiting for Haundo and the others to get moving again.

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

Haundo continues to search each building thoroughly, electing to use the magical battleaxe because of the tight quarters in each building. He takes anything of use for his group or the refugees and piles it outside of each building.

i will continue to use my door sight to look through any barriers we run into, the last thing I want is to get dragged into a basement full of them.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

But, but... That is stock standard for a zombie film :-P

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

Think of all the zombie victims who could have avoided there fates if they had Door sight :O!

Are you searching every house or just the major buildings because there are more houses than you have doorsight?

While waiting, Dagor chats with the NPCs to learn more about them. How they've handled the last two years, what they're good at, or whatever they feel the need to speak of. It is fairly unusual for Dagor, and it takes him effort to simply make chatter.

Charisma: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13

Just the major buildings then ^.^, sorry for the wait internet was out >.<, we can skip it if it helps hasten everything along :)

Bard 4/Gun 1, HP 39, AC: 17 Tch 12 FF 15 F: +5, R: +8, W: +4, Init: +2, Per: +8

Andreas walks back toward the main wagon looking at the larger building wondering if there is a library or a place of records, thinking maps of the area might be helpful.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Whilst Haundo 'searches' the major buildings, Uchendu accompanies him, keeping a wary eye out for hostiles...

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13.

I was just asking so I can see if you have enough for every building. I was not going to RP all of them, Haundo

Haundo make a perception check.

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

The Absalom Nightwatchman moves inside the more important structures of the town, twirling the magical battleaxe expertly, as he looked for useful items or unseen enemies with the determination of a seasoned soldier.

Sorry guys for dragging this out if I am, just following what Haundo would do. If these things are spreading by inflicting injuries he doesn't want one left in a cellar or something before we move on. Besides we may find something new as well. :)

I have internet now so I should be able to respond faster than I have before.
You can see the door the has been jammed from the inside. You also see 3 zombies moving around. One of them has some nice breastplate armor on, and other gear. It seems he was zombified by the other 2.

Gun 3/Clr 2 - HP 36/36: AC 26: Touch: 12 Flat: 24 - F+7, R+6, W+5 Init +5; Darkvision (60 feet); Per +8

Haundo holds his ground and signal's the others, once he has someones attention he points at the jammed door and speaks quietly too them. "Three are beyond this doorway, one is wearing decent gear but they can't get out as the door appears to be jammed. I don't wish to leave them behind but they can wait until the other buildings are checked..."

Haundo shrugs these ones off as they are contained, for now, but finds it disturbing that the wagoners had made it seem they had checked the buildings already. His intuition had proven fruitful as they could possible contain what few zombies were left and help keep the menace contained. At least for now...

Haundo isn't going to attempt anything alone and if no one responds he makes note of the building by cutting three lines on the door followed by 'Do not open, Dead Inside' and continues searching the other buildings.

Athanasius and Grey are with you.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu nods.

"Fair enuf me friend. When we be needin' to deal with dem, I can try to get the Spirits to control one of them..."
