Haundo |
Feel free to roll them for me if i'm not quick to respond :)
K-Engineering - Siege Weapons 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
He got back on deck right as the horn blasts were translated. He growled and waved his arm in the air, signaling for them to turn about and head out to sea. Hopefully keeping outside the range of possible siege weapon attacks. He was born in Absalom, he loved Absalom but ever since the rise of the Fallen he couldn't bring himself to trust fully. Quentin was a surprise, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to Absalom. They had to be sure or they would possibly die...
"Bring us about and maintain two miles distance. Keep the bow pointed out to sea. If they come for us we must be ready to flee away from them."
He grouped up with everyone else and nodded impatiently at the city as it denied them access.
When the night passed uneventfully...
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Haundo was up early, too early, he yawned loudly and looked over the rear of their sailing ship at the city beyond. He nearly missed the bird and waved a crossbowman to hold off on shooting the coming raven. Perhaps the wait had been worth it but what was it carrying....
Klor Kragsson |
As haundo comes on deck in the morning he notices Klor on deck apparently in watch, sound asleep. seems he tried to stay on watch all night. Axe in drawn and huddled close to him like a security blanket.
Perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
assuming that he is awakened before the raven is noticed.
Haundo |
Haundo indeed gives Klor a light tap on the shoulder before mumbling. "All Hands on deck master Klor, we have a raven coming in." His voice grated more then usual, he sounded more doglike when he was this tired. He was comforted by the thought of the armed men below deck, ready to fight incase this was a strange sort of a trap.
In these times he wouldn't be surprised if cities turned hostile and stole supplies from whoever they could over power. Especially larger cities...
De'ohge |
Doh! need to catch up!
Prof: Sailor 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Linguistics for the morse code 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Perception, and you can roll these for me too 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
De'ohge smiles while standing at the bow of the ship, legs spread to cushion the relaxing sway of the bow bouncing up and down in the swells. "A fine morning it is! Land aft, and the open ocean fore. Soon we shall have steadfast legs once more."
Of course you could also give us the answer to the perception check in a spoiler, we can then tailor our response on whether we got it right or not.
Haundo |
Haundo nods to Klor, the sway of the vessel still throwing him off while wearing his heavy armor. Despite the risks he felt more confident with it on. "Ships are so troublesome aren't they?" He looks to the bird and shrugs. "If it appears dead, it will be ended quickly... Although I look forward to seeing what it's holding."
Haundo |
Haundo arcs a thin eyebrow at the approaching bird. It was carrying a message and more then likely required a response from them before they were allowed or denied entry. Absalom wasn't secure or perhaps they were just barely holding on and trying to keep out further disease...
He shook his head as he watched the others scramble to attract the messenger birds attention.
Watcher Uatu |
The bird goes to De'oghe, landing on his forearm so it can get the bread, and releases its hold on the note. Then it moves to his shoulder.
The letter which reads more like an interview reads as follows:
What are you intentions?
Do you have anyone of importance on board?
Is everyone free of infection?
What skillsets are possessed by those onboard.
You have one hour to get this back to us. Hopefully you did not kill the bird, since he is how we planned to get it back or you will have to find another way to deliver it.
OOC info:
The professor counts as your person of importance so that question is taken care of, but any of you can add your names also. You also have nobody that is infected. :)
Haundo |
He shook with doglike laughter as he listened to the letters content.
"If we killed the bird. Insulting. Intentions, establish trade routes. infection... none. If the professor isn't enough put down my name as well as my old job Nightwatchmen. As for profession, gun craft, soldier and fallen hunter. Absalom didn't fare as well as we hoped eh? They got they're hackles all up in a bunch..."
Andreas Merona |
Not hearing the sarcasm in Haundo's voice Andreas speaks up
"Also don't forget I am a librarian and I have done some chronicling of the devastation that has been done as well as we might have some tomes to be added to the archives."
Klor Kragsson |
Aye Klor nods approval to Andreas but adds himself as worth mentioning
An tell em Klor Kragsson - Undead slayer be ere as well!
as The general (ie Haundo) is writing Klor keeps looking over his shoulder.
an underline Undead Slayer....an write it bigger so they see it...maybe they need some dwarven rune marks ta prove my trade...and add in I'm a weapons and armor smith, dat might impress em.
De'ohge |
"Leave me off, not likely any would know my name. I'll pass as the professor's assistant."
De'ohge prefers to keep out of the limelight and is happy to let someone else write the response while he keeps the bird occupied.
Haundo |
Haundo in the mean time sets up a fishing net, seemingly bored with the waiting game that the city was playing. He understood there reason, but found their questions ridiculous, as if there were infected on the ship. They would have been dealt with already. It was the only way to survive now, no mercy for those who would turn and a swift brutal end for the Fallen that had already.
He mumbled to himself, an old soldier saying from the Nightwatch. A fitting song for the dark time they were all facing.
The hour when earth’s foundations fled,
Followed their brutal calling
And took their blades and fought the dead.
Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood, and earth’s foundations stay;
What God abandoned, these defended,
And saved the sum of mortals that remain.
As I gird on for fighting,
In valleys green and still,
The half-moon westers low, my love;
No matter how it is ended,
Cry not for me,
For even when the eye of day is shut,
I will return to you..."
Saxton Quinn |
Saxton sits on the deck contemplating cross legged his minds eye running over events, the ship, the city, the other, this plane was sick, it had a plague and she had sent him here, playing with him again and using his life for sport. No point getting upset or feeling any thing at all other then being here and now. He felt the sea air on his check it felt good.
Andreas Merona |
Andreas is brimming with excitement being this close to Absalom hoping they let them in. He wants to at least see the Great Library that is here, then he wonders if it is still here or is it gone. Lost to the ravages that is this damn plague.
Watcher Uatu |
After everyone writes down their answers the bird takes the letter and returns to the city.
About an hour later you see the gates of the city open, and 8 men in city guard uniforms cautiously exiting, obviously on the lookout for zombies. They signal approach the ship, and wait for you to allow them to enter. It is easy to see that they are anxious to board the ship.
Do you allow them to board the ship?
Haundo |
Haundo has no qualms about them boarding the ship, especially with their fellows armed and below decks. If these men started trouble they would be hostages before they knew what hit them. He also greeted these men in full gear, his Bulwark easily identifying him as a Nightwatchmen of Absalom. He doesn't let them board until the others are full and ready as well, when the professor gives the word he will lower the boarding plank.
Haundo isn't fully trusting of them just yet, they may be only eight men but eight men could still be tough enough for us to take on if they prove treacherous.
"I say we only let one of them board, their representative and in exchange I can stand down there as collateral for their safe return. What say all of you? I just don't think letting all of them on board would be wise..."
Saxton Quinn |
Saxton will use a power, read-thoughts to see if they mean harm
Haundo |
Haundo considers for a moment and then nods at Klor's words, smiling as Klor called him General again. As much as he enjoyed the term, he felt he had done what he had to in Quinten and hoped the city survived without them. "Perhaps my thoughts are getting the best of me. If everyone is fine with letting them aboard then I'll accept that." Despite his words he still keeps close to the professor once this welcoming party came aboard.
Haundo |
Haundo bellows at the indecisive party at the end of gang plank after hearing Saxtons words. "No Nightwatchmen worth his salt would allow a Fallen to exist. So are you coming up or are we going to grow old waiting?"
Watcher Uatu |
The men board the ship. One of the men, who is tall and slender with has sergeant stripes on his uniform steps forward to speak, but the professor cuts him off.
The professor says "Nathan is it you with sergeant stripes?. I guess the world has forced many of us to grow up quickly. Well I am happy to see you."
Nathan replies, "Yes it's me. I was hoping to have a reunion under better circumstances. My parents did not make it, and that is why I a member of the watch now. Many people would like to speak to you. It has been over 3 months since anyone new has arrived."
He then pauses and address everyone.
"All of you are invited inside. Only bring what you need for now. We will come back with a more sizeable force to unload the ship if needed later on today. For now we need to get all of you a place to stay, and a good meal."
Assuming nobody objects, he leads all of you into the city, and separates the party and the professor from any of the NPC's, seemingly at his request.
You are led to city hall, where it seems there are a few other men who are no strangers to battle. Eventually you find yourselves in a conference room, and are once again asked about your abilities, after you are fed.
An elven man, who introduces himself as Lyolen, enters the room. He tells you that you are here to be asked if you want to help try to end whatever it is that is causing the dead to walk.
If so you will be equipped, and given a variety of missions to choose from, but all are important. You are being given a choice, assuming you accept so that you may have the best chance of success.
After he tries and fails to give you a pep talk and inspirational speech, he ask you "So men, are you ready to fight?"
What you do get out of his the presentation is that he is a very intelligent, but socially challenged man.
Saxton Quinn |
Saxton says little but when the talk is over ask in a way to make clear he to is no fool. He stands and walks so that all can see him.
"before I consent your proposal of allegiance, I would like to have the chance to confer with or professor if I may. I think you can consed that we ascertained through our actions an artifact of some significance. I have a feeling may be a key item in understanding the army of undead. I wish you to understand we are not more body's to through on the walls of defiance. We Accomplished what few combatants in this war on the undead Conflagration have done. We have ideas and options of our own, ones you should trust, because"
Saxton waves his and indicating the others,
"Trust me when I say, we together we can accomplish more than your dear to dream"
He gos back to his seat and sits down again.
Haundo |
Being separated from the others they had traveled with across the ocean, he shared knowing looks with some of the first soldiers of Quinten that he had fought alongside. After a few handshakes and waves goodbye he allows himself to be separated.
The City Hall; the food they provided was like ash in his mouth. He was uneasy, Absalom had changed, but this forced herding was grating on him and being separated from the people they brought from Quinten were taken somewhere else. Once they met Lyonel he listened and when given the chance to speak he explained his abilities easily enough and his previous history fighting with the Nightwatch.
"I'll fight, I will always fight the Fallen. Especially if their is a chance to reverse what is happening." He literally barks these words, ears upraised and short black fur bristling at the thought of battle. "I also have a message for your leadership Lyonel, the coastal town of Quinten across the ocean still stands and would be a useful ally as they recently made great moves to retake their town. Please let them know, also that we retain all rights to our vessel."
He nods to Saxton agreeing with his statement. "The object on our ship is... troublesome, as a soldier I trust the likes of my more mystical comrades with such things. It was being used by a Learned in Quinten, whether it increased its power I do not know. As it burned all the same..." The last words were more for his comrades then himself, the Resistance held the docks, his comrades did the real fighting that day. "The men and woman who came with us will tell you the same." He stood then waiting to see what equipment they could offer that was better then his Nightwatch Bulwark.
De'ohge |
Having learned to travel light, De'ohge had packed his haversack hours before and was ready to go, he had nothing left on the ship of importance.
After they are forcibly split up De'ohge starts paying closer attention to their surroundings, checking escape routes, heights of buildings, alleys. He sticks close to Shiny (Haundo).
De'ohge listens as the others discuss what they will do next, nodding in agreement with Shiny, "anyone still living in these times is likely to be doing much fighting. Dumb question." He gives Lyolen a quizzical look, "you need rest, I think."
He knows the orb tucked away in the bottom of his haversack is likely an artifact. Best to not say anything about the orb to these Absolomites, or until Shiny says to show it. Don't trust them yet... But Shiny should know I wouldn't leave something so dangerous laying about.
Saxton Quinn |
De'ohge, For the last time the ORB is with the Prof, saxton Made you give it him, now I dropped are you saying nothing he did happened, we have all ready told them about it, the prof is working on it, you know I may come back just to stop you nabbing all the stuff every chance you get. hehe in fact I will
Saxton was talking about the Orb the Prof has WITH HIM and has been working on.
Klor Kragsson |
klor spend the entire time just haveing a great time parting and drinking telling tales to those that will listen about his great figt with the cyclops.
embelishing it a bit to really make him look better.
as far as any alliance goes he doesn't really care at the moment the state of the world right now makes it claer what side he belongs on. and he is on it now.
The living side
Uchendu Kybwa'ka |
Uchendu understands the spirit of what the man was saying, even though the body of his speech was less than enticing.
"We came here looking for respite, and hoping to find a way to end this blight. The Dead need to be returned to their final rest. I, for one, am willing to assist in the process."
Saxton Quinn |
Ok moving on, lets get this working for everyone now things are cleared up, De'ohge Ill go with what you posted to show no hard feelings.
Saxton looks at De'ohge then touches his hand.
::"Do you have the orb with you now?. As agreed on the ship, this may be our one bargaining chip to not be sidelined and used as gun fodder. I feel the prof will tell them of it any how if he has not done so all ready, when he comes I wan't to show it to them, to make them understand we are not just another band of the lost, fighting just to stay alive, but a group seeking to stop this by finding the source. They should be helping us not us them. That is my feeling and that orb may be our one bargaining chip to get them to understand that. They may have minds here better minds than ours that can help us unlock its secrets."::
De'ohge |
Turning his attention back to the matters at hand, De'ohge looks to Lyonel, "My work be in the arcane arts. Where be your wizards? Converse with them, I would."
Thinking about his stilted speach, I really need more practice with this language, why they call it common...
Walking over to the side table to fill his cup, he continues, "Fought a great undead cyclops. 'Twas very powerful, controlled others. See it's like before, I had not. These people," De'ohge waves at his companions, "they be good fighters of undead. I be stuck in that town long time, dodging undead, hunting food, safe place to rest." Pausing for a drink of something fruity and new to his palette, "In just a few days, they come to town. They fight many undead. They not become undead. They are worthy."
Refilling his cup, and holding it out, "That one, Shiny, He good leader for man." Pointing to the others with his cup, "they good fighters too, they kill undead."
