Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal searches his memories to see if these are things he is familiar with and what their weaknesses might be.
Knowledge(Planes): 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 3 = 9
Running around the table, Donal casts his chains at the apparition.
Chain Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 62d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Arcanos Fiendbane |
Arcanos also tries to identify the creature and see what its weaknesses might be, then readies another glob of acid to throw at it.
ranged touch, acid splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 151d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
knowledge planes: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Tavagra |
Srry, was real busy
Tavagra throws out a lob of acid, but it goes wide, missing her target completely.
Acid Splash, Ranged Tough: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Fjuri |
no worries, it happens
Because you rolled 12 over the DC:
AC 15, touch 12, flat-footed 14; (+1 Dex, +3 natural, +1 size)
hp x/19 (original, but these don't have that much to start with)
Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +2
So far, only Arcanos's acid splash hits the winged-head creatures. It does some damage and the creature seems to be in very bad shape now.
GM-ing Olivia for brevity
Olivia aims another ray of frost at the wounded creature. She hits it and it falls frozen to the ground.
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Cold Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
The remaining creature suddenly shrieks. A high pitched voice comes from its mouth. It has the power to stop people in its place.
Fort DC12 or be paralyzed for 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 rounds.
Combat! Round 3
---------------
Arcanos, Donal, Olivia, Tavarga, Teagan
flying head creature
Olivia Adair |
Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"what a noise!" Olivia exclaims as she brings her hands to her ears, then freezes in that position as the shriek's paralyzing effect kicks in.
Tavagra |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tavagra is nearly brought to her knees as she tries desperately to block out the sound before freezing up in a similar position to Olivia.
Donal Death-Greeter |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Paralyzed for: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Donal sinks to his knees as the sonic assault completely disables his eardrums.
Arcanos Fiendbane |
Without a better way to deal with these strange creatures, Arcanos sends more acid toward the wounded one.
acid splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 181d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Fjuri |
Teagan defaults his fort save, 5 days with no post, lets keep it up. I know I'm busy as well, but lets do some effort.
rules interpretation:
The 2d4 is only rolled once for all creatures effected, I'd think that it represents the power of the shriek. The fort save is the individual being effected by it. Anyone know if this interpretation is wrong, with reference?
The flying head now attacks Donal, the closest target.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
The attack awakens him from his paralysis and he can dodge the attack just in time.
Combat! Round 4
---------------
Donal
flying head creature
Arcanos, Olivia, Tavarga, Teagan - paralysed for 1 more round
Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal stays on his knees, attempting to stand.
Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal roars and swings the chain at the flying head
Chain Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 42d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
"Anyone know what these things are? Are they demons?"
Olivia Adair |
@GM: I believe that's indeed how it works. Kind of like the damage from an area of effect spell, where you roll the damage just once.
Donal Death-Greeter |
I assume this is the same save as before? On a side note, I really should have packed a status cure spell
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Donal stumbles back and prays to Pharasma. "Oh Goddess of fate, grant me strength that I may find the source of the abominations. Aid me in this trail that we may continue to do your will"
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Teagan Everwisp |
I apologize for the lack of posts. I've been having some medical issues recently.
Teagan surges forward attempting to destroy the creature with his scimitar.
attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Olivia Adair |
As soon as Olivia finds herself able to move again, she shoots another ray of frost at the flying head.
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Cold Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Tavagra |
"I'll kill that thing! Exclaims Tavagra as her eyes morph slightly more slitted. Her arms and hands turn more reptilian as she rushes the floating head, slashing out with anger.
Claw Attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Claw Attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Damage 2: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Arcanos Fiendbane |
"This strange mist is unleashing all kinds of things," Arcanos says. "Let us explore these doors to the east," he suggests.
20h days! NOT good! Hopefully that's short-term. :)
Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal gathers himself and checks the corpses for anything useful.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
"I don't see why not, perhaps if we find this artifact we can contain the mists."
Fjuri |
Yes, 20h days were short term. It would have been either by choice, or they'll kill me anyway. Enjoying headaches for now. :)
You explore the eastern part of the room. Outside the southern room, some of you notice mad laughter coming through the door. As you enter you see it is a cramped stone chamber, likely a bathroom. The stench of sewage battles the cold of the mist, but through the haze can be seen smears of blood across the floor, walls, and ceiling, as well as the doors of several stalls.
One of the museum’s watchmen, wallows here, quite insane it seems. It seems to suffer from the same enchantment as Teagan, only worse.
He is not alone. The mists have also attracted a fearsome sewer monster, a speckled python, now a homicidal monster. The snake and the watchman attack anyone who enters the Bathrooms, pursuing their quarry if it flees. The snake does seem to have fed recently, and the torso of what seems to have been a half-orc, beaten to pulp, lies close to the snake.

Combat again!
-------------
Suprise round for Olivia, Tavarga and Teagan.
Arcanos, Olivia, Tavarga
The watchman
Donal
The snake.
Teagan
Its a constrictor snake, not venomous.
Donal Death-Greeter |
Damn Arcanos, that was impressive
Donal pulls out his manacles and restrains the watchman. "Might be an innocent. This will give us the luxury to determine his involvement later." He stands guard over the watchman just in case and eyes the snake. "Don't have snake manacles though - looks like some form of constrictor"
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Fjuri |
The enemies will regain consciousness after 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 rounds. They'll be blinded and stunned for another1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds. After that, they'll be just stunned for 1 more round.
The constrictor has eaten recently, the lower half of the half-orc body is missing. So it might be possible to bind it based on the bulges in its body. You're not sure. I do think that if you stop the food from progressing in the digestive track, it will not survive for very long.
Tavagra |
Claw Attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Claw Attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Claw Damage 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Claw Damage 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Tavagra, seeing as the snake was now incapacitated, decided to kill it off before it could harm when it inevitably woke up.
"Nicely done Arcanos. And I believe this watchmen be under the same effect as poor Teagan. Damn it all that other poor sap couldn't be saved in time."
Arcanos Fiendbane |
Arcanos smiles grimly, glad his spell worked.
"Perhaps the effect will wear off once we get him out of here. We should tie him up and take him to the entry," he suggests as he retrieves a length of rope from his pack.
Olivia Adair |
"The manacles will keep him in check," Olivia comments.
"Uhm... so who's going to carry him? I sure can't..."
After the man's carried outside:
"Let's go to the room across the one we just searched," Olivia suggests, and moves there if the others agree.
Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal hoists the many over one shoulder, an action not unfamilar to him. " Shouldn't we search this room? The artifact must be around here somewhere"
If Needed
Strength Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Fjuri |
Apart from body parts of a half orc and a dead snake, there is nothing of interest there.
After you're about halfway on your way to the outside, the watchman regains consciousness. You've tied him up, but he starts moving around, making it harder for you to carry. He struggles so hard you drop him.
"www who are you? ... what are you doing to me?"
He seems rather confused right now.
Arcanos Fiendbane |
Arcanos smiles grimly.
"Do not worry," he says as they make their way toward the exit. "We are here to save you from this place. All will be right soon."
Olivia Adair |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Olivia places a hand on the man's shoulder. "Don't worry. We'll take care of everything."
Donal Death-Greeter |
"Donal Deathgreeter, Church of Pharasma", Alistair looks slowly over to the man on the ground and starts to remove the manacles."This area is cursed. You'll want to start running now."
He gives the man a shooing motion as he puts the manacles away.
Fjuri |
Early this morning, these strange mist flooded the offices. we were caught by it. At first it was ok, but we went furious. By the gods what have I done. I attacked Milgen.
Can you check it out for me? My friend, I think I injured him. I can't remember where, it was. He may need aid. He's a half orc, tall, strong, but friendly."
Olivia Adair |
"Your friend's passed away," Olivia says while looking at the poor man.
Bluff, + trait bonus when fooling someone: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19
"There was a huge snake in the same room as you and your half-orc friend. You friend was fine, he just had a few scratches from your struggle, but... the snake killed him and tore him apart before we could intervene... I'm sorry."
Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal thinks for a moment, "You work here right? Was there a new artifact added to the exhibition recently?
Olivia Adair |
"You're welcome," Olivia tells the man, then heads up to the next unexplored section of the building.
"Come on, guys. Let's move on."
Moved myself on the map to show where I think we should go next.
Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal points out the exit to the poor man. "I guess we'll have to find the offices then, I doubt Nigel's still around or if he is - still able to converse. He follows behind Olivia, re-holstering his manacles and singing a relaxing dirge to himself.
Tavagra |
"Of course, more undead walking around. Suppose that's what those missing corpses be now if what happened earlier is example. Be on guard."
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Sorry I'm graduating Wednesday
Donal Death-Greeter |
Donal sticks his head across the hole in the broken glass and looks around.
