Gregary Belias Crowley VII |
Full Name: Gregary Belias Crowley VII
Race: LG human magus 4 Optional: Taldane nobleman
Gender: Male cisgender
Alignment: Lawful Good, best possible good for the greatest possible number of peasants who obey my orders
Location: Spent most of his time in his family's barony, with a years-long university visit to Oppara to study, and a quick tour around the country to see what it's about.
Languages: Taldane, Qadiran, Elven, Cheliaxian
Ability Scores: Strength 12 (+1), Dexterity 18 (+4), Constitution 14 (+2), Intelligence 16 (+3), Wisdom 8 (-1), Charisma 15 (+2)
About:
Gregary is a scion of one of Taldor's many noble families, though he is a distant scion devoid of any hope of ever gaining any power. Regardless, he was educated with the best and by the best, gaining many valuable skills during his formative years. In addition, his years in Oppara taught him something very valuable about the aristocracy - that it needed to change. He wants nothing more than to see his mother country succeed, and Gregary is convinced that it is because of the f+#%-ups of the aristocracy and the weight of government that it's fallen on such hard times lately. However, he knows that within the system, he'll never actually gain enough power to change this, and it frustrates him very much.
Gregary's parents are the second cousins of his family's patriarch, who is himself a noble of relatively small power and holdings. Frustrated by his family's low standing, he's spent most of his adult life trying to increase the amount of power his family has by trying more and more to impress people above his station. Unfortunately, Taldor is not a meritocracy, and his efforts are largely in vain. Not only that, but Gregary has had to stand and watch as his nation has fallen even deeper into corruption and disrepair as he's grown, something that distresses him greatly.
He was educated as a lad in one of Oppara's more prestigious academies, learning the basics of magic, of combat, of polite society and of various scholarly topics. He was one of his class' best students, and he graduated with honors

There, I think I got my profile set up as you wanted it. Please let me know if I missed anything. So excited, I'm glad we'll begin before I leave for my vacation next day. I already mentioned it to our gm but so the rest of you know, I will be gone Wednesday through Sunday next week and will have limited time/ability to reply to my various and sundry games.
Aerodus Aluain |
Here and ready to go. Will edit my character sheet when I can but my laptop is broken and being fixed at the moment and my own way of posting is off my phone.
W E Ray .... 3 |
And so it begins.
(BTW, many thanks for adjusting your profiles to my preference, I know it can take a while and is, to put it mildly, not-fun to do.)
(Cayosin & Raggo, extra thanks for getting it (mostly) right, may you become shining examples for all others!)
Oh, and I forgot one element of Profile set up preference (Damn It!): In the Race: line, if you could put your current HP in OOC followed by your max HP -- at the end of your Alignment Race Class - Level (and optional ethnicity or place of origin), it would be great.
Again, posting with this Alias as an example.
Raggo |
I think my profile is good now, let me know if anything needs to be changed. Also if it wasn't clear my rage modifiers will be like {this} in my crunch and profile
W E Ray .... 3 |
@Raggo, yeah, it took me a second to catch the "{ }s" but only a sec, and I was really pleased. Thanks.
@Cayosin, let's play it by ear -- start off with whatever you think is better and that's probably how I'll get used to it.
@Everyone, if you care to take more time to go over Profile formatting, here's all that crap
Race: Alignment-abbreviation Race Class - Levels (no punctuation except that hyphen between Class & Level) Optional: Ethnicity and/or Place of Origin or Religion
Class / Levels: (Under a Spoiler Tag) [ b]AC:[/b] [o oc]14[/o oc] ([ i]T:[/i] [o oc]11[/ooc] [I ]FF:[/i] [oo c]13[/o oc]) [ b]| Fort:[/b] [oo c]+3[/ooc] [ b]Ref:[/b] [o oc]+3[/ ooc] [ b]Will:[/b] [o oc]+4[/ooc] [b ]| Move:[/b] [o oc]40[/ooc]
(You can just copy/paste this and then just correct my "gaps" and fill in your PC's numbers.)

Do you want us to add any resistances into the profile anywhere? Other Think I got it all that time.
Also, are you running Taldor as though it's France as far as culture/quisine? Make my life easier if I know when it comes to things like food orders and such.
W E Ray .... 3 |
No need to put your Aasimar Resistances in the Profile anywhere except in the character sheet.
You may want to change "Tiefling" to "Aasimar" though.

I don't know how to talk "Byzantium" and I've always kinda seen Taldor as a bit France, circa 1350-1450, decaying, decadent, full of crumbling bureaucracy -- at least, smirk, according to Shakespeare.
So I figured I'd be a bit heavy-handed in the French Later-Middle-Ages setting right up front to set a tone and then let it go from there.

All three female party members arriving at the same time, it is like the beautiful blonde bastard planned it. But of course he isn't devious so he wouldn't. The Dawnflower has just blessed him with such fine company. Hahaha

Aliesah Leafborn,
Just out of curiosity, how rare or uncommon would you prefer an arsinoitherium to be in the Verduran, if you have a preference?
How different does Cutie look from a, er, "modern" rhino as opposed to one from, I assume Sarusan, whose mother somehow came to the Verduran.
I would prefer that it not be terribly rare to see a rhino (but perhaps uncommon) but I was wondering if you were hoping for something very rare and exotic.
Aliesah Leafborn |
The main differences between a asinoitherium and a rhino is the double horn on the nose, side by side, the small horns over the eyes, and that it is closely related to the elephant. Its is smaller than both, but its legs are straighter than a rhino. It likes rough terrain, like woods and such. Food for it would be grass and bark. It would be an uncommon sight, moving in small family groups. Like elephants, they gave a strong family unit, and can be trained. Not as bad tempered as a rhino. From the north eastern side of the forest, I think.
Asino seems a good shortening of the name of the species. It would be a exotic sight in this part of taldor.
Much of the above is guesswork, as no one has ever observed one, being extinct for millions of years in real life, but I think it works.

Louis Navrotescu

@Cayosin,
At the first break of Winter Louis Navrotescu travelled to Cassomir, as he always does, to get a head start on his business endeavers after the slow season. He's a very good option to earn a quick few gold pieces in simple caravan protection through the Blackwood Swamp surrounding Cassomir.
You could have arrived back to Griffondale with him within the last day or so, as he returned a few days later than he would have liked.

That sounds good, any additional information I should know about?
Cayosin Ormr I Auga |
@Cayosin,
Nope, we're good -- feel free to roll some Diplomacy or Sense Motive -- or even better, talk to him in Gameplay.
He and lots of other NPCs have some info the DM's waiting to hand out.
Also, feel free to join the PCs in the Tell Tale Tavern.
LMAO, I missed the part that Gameplay was open and there was no counter to tell me there were posts. I'll post shortly or tonight at the latest.
DM Ray |
Each of the NPCs mentioned at different points in Gameplay are visible either in the Tell-Tale Tavern (including Louis) or in the open-air market adjacent to it. (At least, the NPCs who have spoken are -- unlike The Scarlet Knight who is only referenced.)
Feel free to take your time catching up on the Gameplay posts.
Nothing has really happened yet except the PCs getting to know each other, the Players getting to know our posting style, and my introducing a number of NPCs with whom any of you can approach.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
And my first dose of PbP DMing differences is upon me -- slapping me in the face right out of the gate!
.... In my Homegames, when players ask to make skill checks, I often have them withhold their result until I can take a second to think of an appropriate DC for the situation.
If for example, a PC asks to make a Knowledge check regarding an obscure holy symbol & altar, I think for a moment about what the DC should be and then ask for the result.
In this case a Gather Info (Diplomacy) check was made and I saw the result, 23, prior to thinking through what a PC would get with a 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30.
Hmmmm.
In the future, can you guys put those kind of results under a spoiler tag so I can consider what I feel the appropriate DC would be for the check?
Example:
Survival Check to see if this mushroom is poisonous:
Thanks!

This is a great photo that I just found. It matches my image of Gregary almost perfectly.

That is a good picture. Did they use Heromachine or something better to make that?
Aerodus Aluain |
Yeah but that post is from the first page, it has already been posted and the Diplomacy check for information already got dealt with by the GM, right?
Wulfrun Taverner |
I am seeing it once on Page One and once on Page Two. I could be wrong though.
Heh, just saw what you are seeing... Definately a double post!
DM Ray |
Perhaps I should not have done the rules-as-written 1d4 hours time-to-make-Gather-Info-checks as it may have caused more confusion than the rule is worth. (I did alter it for the situation, subtracting one hour from the d4 roll.)
Here's how it happened this time:
We started late morning, say 11:00am, and spent a few minutes talking around & having breakfast, till 11:30, let's say.
Wulfrun left to gather info and it took her (1d4-1 =) 2 hours to get the extra bit of info with her roll.
Putting her at roughly 1:35pm.
Terra Minora left to gather info and it took her (1d4-1 =) 1 hour to get the extra bit of info with her roll.
Putting her at roughly 12:35pm.
Aerodus (with others trailing behind him) left to gather info and it took him (1d4-1 =) 0 hours to get the extra bit of info with his roll.
Putting him (and the others in the stable) at roughly 11:35pm.
- - - -
And like I said earlier, you can segue a bit of time and say that around 1:45 or so everyone gets back together -- this way Aerodus & Raggo can introduce newly met Gregary Crowley to Terra Minora & Wulfrun. And Cayosin to follow.
