"Observing who's posting the fliers would also be a good task for one or two of our the guards, if they decide to re-hire," the mercenary muses. "We'll deal with Caggan whenever it becomes an issue. What does anyone think of this letter? Do we care at all? We could make a show of pulling her out of debt to boost our image--and the Archbaron's. Or we could bail her out quietly, and demand services or intelligence reports in response. Or we could do nothing at all." Rurisa shrugs.

"My plan for now is to wait and see if any of the deputies return, then go purchase some silver blanch just in case Caggan isn't bluffing. I'll probably stop by and speak with Gerya. You're of course all welcome to accompany me."

Cimri shrugs and kicks a chair back to take a cat-nap. An hour before noon Ashel, Ertha, and Saster walk into the jailhouse that employed them for so long before. Each looks contrite and fall into an at ease stance before the group. Ertha is the one who steps forward and asks, "We would like our jobs back, please. We acted in haste and would appreciate an opportunity to continue helping the town in whatever way we can."

Nodding professionally, Rurisa pulls out three employment contracts and passes them out. "You'll regain your titles of "Deputy," but we collectively," she gestures to herself, Penance, Kayal, Vokrin, and Cimri, "will fill the duties of Acting Sheriff, and you will report to us. Sign here, and here."

After collecting the signed forms, she offers them all a grin. "Welcome back. First job is an easy one--these fliers have been appearing all over town, and given the state Longacre is in right now they're unnecessarily inflaming tensions. You're all to tear these down and find out who's behind them--don't worry, we're not going to hurt them, we'll give them a stern talking-to and a fine and that'll be that. Any questions?"

The three again deputies straighten their backs and salute as professionally as they can before gathering the black vests that is their uniform and head out to investigate. Cimri claps her hands together, "All right! Now that that's out of the way I know the perfect place that we can pick up alchemy stuff, Odmer's Tonics. Most of his stuff is crap, but you can find actual alchemical things if you know what you're looking for."

She looks over at Vokrin and Penance. "You guys want to come with? Odmer might have stuff you want to pick up too."

Male Tiefling

Vokrin nods. "Yes, I have need of some materials and I should like to see if they are available rather than procuring them myself. I do not relish the drawing of blood." He clarifies. "The regulated drawing of blood from a creature against its will yet not to cause it harm."

Cool, let's go to Odmer's Tonics then! Will there be roleplay or can we just make our purchases? I for sure want silver weapon blanch, but depending on what's available may buy more.

Sorry gang, life just hit me hard the past few days, I've been meaning to get back to this in full force...

Cimri leads the way to the square just south of The Last Stand, several notices on the door and windows indicating that Caggan is out and will not be able to tend bar until he gets back. The cart, currently folded open into a storefront, has a painting of a rainbow-hued imp exploding from a bottle with great gaudy letters proclaiming Odmer's Tonics!

Cimri approaches the proprieter, a handsome man in his late thirties with a head of hair that is beginning to thin along the top, and gets his attention with a loud "Odmer!" He looks in your direction and spotting Cimri his easy-going grin slips briefly, but is back in full-force with a practiced shrug.

"Cimri my dear! What can old Elish get for you today? Some more moonshine? Oils to make your favorite knife have a sharper edge? A potion to make any man in town fall hopelessly in love with you? I've got all this and more here, straight from the Nine Wonders Conglomerate!" Midway through his greeting the man changed it to a pitch, particularly to the rest of the group, whom he does not recognize on sight.

Cimri has the grace to play along and gives him a hearty shove, "Stop you old shyster! I don't need to go blind from your moonshine. You haven't been brewing it in Natisha Howell's bathtub again, right? Actually we're looking for weapon blank? Branch?" She looks back to the group for help with the alchemical material you're picking up.

Inactive

"Well, if your moonshine really can blind people, I may purchase some, depending on the cost of course. I believe the appropriate term is blanch, my dear. Weapon blanch, of the silver variety if you please." Penance walked as he talked, looking at this and that and everything in between.

Rurisa rolls her eyes at Odmer's pitch, but her tone is playful. "Do I look like someone who would need a love potion? I would like two doses of silver blanch though, yes."

Penance's spell doesn't detect any poison except for a six-ounce flask in Odmer's vest pocket, presumably alcohol of some sort. He seems to understand what Penance and Rurisa want and pulls a few bottles from the back of the cart, each in brightly colored bottles. He offers them forward, "These should be reserved enough for you."

Taking 10 on that knowledge for an 18.

Vokrin whispers to Rurisa, preferring not to confront the man directly himself. "These are nothing, what you want is actually over there." He hooks a claw, directing her gaze at the appropriate bottles.

Odmer has the grace to blush. "My apologies my lady. Normally I can get away with such behavior among the locals. No one really had the knowledge to see what I've sold them. Snake oil is a wonderful thing you know, it can cure colds, prevent pregnancies, clear up skin, and be used as a wonderful massage oil. You just have to know the right way to sell it," he finishes with a wink.

He clears his throat when his normal charm doesn't change Rurisa's countenance, "I can give you a 5% discount today for attempting to trick you, how does that sound? And I'll keep an ear out for anything that might suit the gnome's tastes, as well as make any commission you desire." Among the bottles and tinctures you can find any alchemical item worth 75gp or less. Should you desire something else you'll have to commission him.

Arms crossed and foot tapping, Penance was obviously annoyed at the man's blatant attempt to deceive them. "10 unless you want to join Caggen in the stocks."

Odmer holds up his hands, knowing he's been beaten. "Alright, 10 percent. And I do apologize for not having what you require, but I can't head out into the nearby woods to harvest anything on my own, I'm a crafter, not a fighter." He pulls together the bottles you requested, and hands them to you in a burlap sack filled with hay, "So they don't clink together and break," he explains.

Cimri throws a quick punch at his arm, "Always interesting to talk to you Elish. I might swing by for some more gear later, alone."

The man sighs and loses his cheery façade, "Please don't. Every time you show up I lose money, and one time I had to explain to the old sheriff why the field was burned in a 20 foot radius of my cart."

"I suppose it will save me time and effort to not have to craft these myself, even if they are done rather..., oh never mind. It'll have to do."

Penance picked out a tanglefoot bag, a vial of invisible ink (good), 4 tindertwigs, 5 flasks of lamp oil, and one root of wolfsbane.

Looking at the others as he stuffed everything into a bag he simply muttered "don't ask."

You head towards Gerya's shop on the outside of town, swinging through the southern gate since the closure of Castle Gate blocks the entrance to the west of town. You think you see Cimri heading down the road to Scarlet Manor with a small form walking beside her, but the two disappear before you can confirm it.

Following the main path heading west you eventually stand before a quaint home with several newer looking additions built on. Hanging above the door to the entrance is a rough wooden sign with the word, 'Hospice' carved out of it. Knocking on the door has a voice from inside calling out, "I'll be just a moment!"

The door opens revealing a cozy looking house, though much of the furniture and drapery is threadbare and well-worn. You don't get to see much more as Gerya Rohalendi herself walks and with a little oh of surprise bows once and asks, "How can I help you today?"

Next post will have Trevor and Cimri back with the party

Rurisa is in her full kit but attempting to be nonthreatening, what does she know about Gerya if she takes a 10 in Knowledge [Local]?

You know that Gerya Rohalendi is a kind-hearted woman who is known to take in the sick or infirm when they have no other place to go, as well as to heal any who come her way.

Gerya nods and steps back, offering entry to her home, "Indeed I am her, and you speak of the Nidalese man, yes? Of course my lady. Is there something that I can help you or one of your companions with?"

She is about to shut the door fully when a clipped, "Wait!" is heard from outside. Cimri finishes jogging up to the veranda and places her hands on her knees, puffing a little from the exertion required to get here so quickly. "Glad I...caught you guys." She lets out a big sigh and directs everyone's attention to the Halfling a step behind her and on her left. He is neatly kept and has a face and demeanor that can only be described as 'plain'. It seems it is easy to lose him when placed next to someone as gregarious as Cimri, as shown by the fact that it took her pointing him out to be aware of his existence.

"This here is Trevor. He's another companion I ran into while doing odd-jobs and he actually would have helped with the tannery thing, but was held up elsewhere. He's taken the oath that we all took with the Archbaron and he's here to help." Cimri seems rather proud of bringing another companion into the fold.

M Halfling Oracle2,Init+3,F3R4W4(6Fear),Per4,AC16T14T13

Trevor gives a nod that is almost a bow. Greetings sirs, ma'am. As Cimiri has said I have given the Archbaron my assurances that I will use my skills to aid this group. I am able to tend to wounds and provide other benefits as needed.

Trevor seems to be almost like a butler in his stance and smooth voice.

Rurisa gives the halfling a cordial nod and tips Cimri a wink, but introductions to their newest ally would have to wait until business with Gerya was concluded. It wouldn't do to appear unprepared in front of an outsider.

Rurisa remains standing in Gerya's foyer, her helm tucked under her arm while the initial pleasantries are dispensed with. "Gerya," the Hellrazor begins, "No doubt you've heard that we have replaced Rhona Staelish as the lawful authorities here in Longacre, and its in our capacity as keepers of the peace that we're visiting today. You are a leader of the community, well-regarded and with good reason, so I was saddened to learn about your practice's financial difficulties. There's a great deal of tension in Longacre right now, and I worry that the closing of your practice would only exacerbate this anger and embolden seditious elements."

Withdrawing a small pouch from her belt, Rurisa places it in Gerya's hands with an audible clink of coins. "As a loyal and obedient servant of the Archbaron, it is neither my place nor within my power to question his taxation policies. However I believe this should go some considerable distance towards covering your debts to the state." 10pp in the pouch, I believe that's 1/3 of Gerya's tax debt?

Yep, that's a third of her tax debt.

Gerya's jaw drops. She very tentatively accepts the pouch, and once she feels it in her hand, she looks at the group with glassy eyes. "Thank you. You don't know how much this means to me and my wards," she directs your attention to several cots in the main room, each with an elderly man or woman, and several of whom are sick.

Her eyes clear up and her face takes a determined air. "Should you ever need help, with healing, disease, poison, anything really, please, come find me. I'm in your debt. Is there anything you need right now?"

"Yes, that brings me to the other part of what I wanted to discuss. You see, we need your help in return Gerya." Rurisa sweeps out a hand to include everyone present. "Your voice carries a lot of weight in Longacre, and we believe that there are those who want to provoke violence against the Archbaron and House Thrune. We would like to avoid that if possible. Gerya, could you find it in your heart to explain to our fellow citizens that we're not villains here, and that the Glorious Reclamation's visions of violent uprising are not the right way forward?"

Lol, trying to figure out how to work in a request for a discount on potions without ruining my benevolent-lawkeeper schtick.

Her dirty secret is that she's a commoner and making potions is difficult for her.

Gerya's face sets, "Of course. I'll let everyone know what is happening. My questions for you a few days back were only for clarification if you were worried I was accepting of the priestesses words..."

Vokrin sees the exchanges with a stoic attitude and no communication. There seemed to be a revolving cadre of individuals, and he wasn't particularly happy about it, but at least there was still Rurisa. He wasn't interested in her in any particular fashion, but he could not deny her effectiveness and charisma. In addition, she did not unnerve Vokrin nearly so much as the underfoot crowd that was growing. They felt like children, and while he was perfectly fine with children these were an odd sort of small-thing.
