Ok, I'm almost done rebuilding Aurora back to Warpriest.
I also wonder whether I should bring her to Lawful Good, she's a good girl after all.

Also: is the Auspician's Handbook (expanding the Fate Sphere) allowed? It's playtest, but it adds several options that could be appropriate.

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

I'm always up for a little playtesting, assuming the usual 'you edit it to the finished version when its done' caveat.

Female Human S. Prin. 6 | HP: 33/61 (R:5) | AC: 21, T: 15, FF: 18 | DR: 5/Good, SR: 27, Resist: Energy, Conditions, Effects | Fort: +13, Ref: +11, Will: +13 (+4 vs Cond/Eff) | M. Atk: +10(+12) | CMB: +9, CMD: 25 | Init: +3, Perception: +7

I feel a little better about not bringing Miyu back this round - she's got a lot of fate/precognition stuff going. XD Otherwise, I'm ready to start the next mission as soon as everyone else is.

Human Investigator 5 | HP: 16/41 | AC: 19, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +3, Ref: +6, Will: +10 {+1/+2/+7} | Melee: +4, Ranged: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 17 | Init: +2, Perception: +10 <trap spotter> | Insp 6/6 | SP 5/9 | Speed: 30ft

Wait. Why does that make you feel better? Do you know what the next mission is?

I'm currently tossing around the idea of a more proper thief so Solomon can take some time off. But I'll be ready when everyone else is, even if with Solomon.

Female Human S. Prin. 6 | HP: 33/61 (R:5) | AC: 21, T: 15, FF: 18 | DR: 5/Good, SR: 27, Resist: Energy, Conditions, Effects | Fort: +13, Ref: +11, Will: +13 (+4 vs Cond/Eff) | M. Atk: +10(+12) | CMB: +9, CMD: 25 | Init: +3, Perception: +7

No, but I'm trying to avoid stepping too much into the roles and ideas other people are going with. XD Between your investigation abilities and Aurora using fate magic, Miyu really would be a lot of overlap. (And even if you switch out, well... I think Cerise here will be funny anyway. XD It's not a problem either way.)

Also, speaking of proper thieves...

Human Investigator 5 | HP: 16/41 | AC: 19, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +3, Ref: +6, Will: +10 {+1/+2/+7} | Melee: +4, Ranged: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 17 | Init: +2, Perception: +10 <trap spotter> | Insp 6/6 | SP 5/9 | Speed: 30ft

That's actually pretty interesting. What do you think, JG?

HP: 12/44 (+8 when raging) -- Bloodrage: 6/14

I've been talking with Jon about my character, and I hope to have him done today. Or at least the crunch. I'll be playing a Swashbuckler.

However, Old Spice (yes, that Old Spice) just put out something pretty tempting...

Link doesn't work, Jennifer. Permissions?

I think I'm going to make an actual rogue, ableit with archetype love. Much more of a sticky fingers scoundrel, but with a gritty merc spin.

No, I messed up the tagging. Edited to fix.

That seems to be just a joke, but in case someone wants to play a dandy, I could mothball Aurora for a couple of adventures and play a Battle Butler...

Bit of a problem for the shiny armor, though. By the way, do I learn something about what makes it work, how to choose its effects, etc.?

Female Human S. Prin. 6 | HP: 33/61 (R:5) | AC: 21, T: 15, FF: 18 | DR: 5/Good, SR: 27, Resist: Energy, Conditions, Effects | Fort: +13, Ref: +11, Will: +13 (+4 vs Cond/Eff) | M. Atk: +10(+12) | CMB: +9, CMD: 25 | Init: +3, Perception: +7

Half of me is worried that I just convinced most of the group to play Gonzo characters for a session.

The other half thinks this is a great idea and that I should encourage it. XD

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

If people feel like a Gonzo inspired silly session, it is doable. I'll have to break about the Manly PDF with its variety of beard and beard related feats...

But yes, the Phantom Thief is fine.

And yes, Aurora will discover more about the armour if she invests time into finding it out.

Female Human S. Prin. 6 | HP: 33/61 (R:5) | AC: 21, T: 15, FF: 18 | DR: 5/Good, SR: 27, Resist: Energy, Conditions, Effects | Fort: +13, Ref: +11, Will: +13 (+4 vs Cond/Eff) | M. Atk: +10(+12) | CMB: +9, CMD: 25 | Init: +3, Perception: +7

I don't know that the session itself would need to be silly. Cerise here is actually a rather serious character when she's not gleefully ripping apart evil outsiders with her bare hands. It just amuses me to think of people playing some of the more creative classes available. XD

HP: 12/44 (+8 when raging) -- Bloodrage: 6/14

Yes, the Gentleman class that I linked to is based off of the Old Spice commercials. I know it's a joke. I wasn't putting it forward as a serious option to play.

The Sparkle Princess dialogue is great XD

Nurai and Shadows are mostly updated, our benevolent GM was even kind enough to let Nurai get a new more powerful healing wand for her troubles. I'll finalize spell lists once I have a lot at the new options to try to guess which will be best for Nurai to know but I've picked a preliminary list that I've talked with GMJon about for now.

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

How are those updates/new characters going folks?

I've updated the story and characters sections of the Website, but the new information isn't up yet. Work has been...very draining recently, and while I've gotten an awful lot of extra cash I'm also very tried. Hopefully, the new info, or at least the more readable bits, will be up tomorrow.

In the mean time, it's also time for you guys to pick a story...

~~~~~~~
The Carnival
Legends persist, in Fever, of a Carnival of horrors. That once every now and then this band of ghoulish performers will arrive, looking for an audience of volunteers. And if you don't play your cards correctly, you could very well join it for all time.
A standard spooky tale heard in towns everywhere, right? I mean, clowns are creepy enough as it is. Well...There might be a little more truth to this story than most. Odd things have been sighted, strange noises in places where things shouldn't be. The sounds of animals, and circus music.
People are getting spoked, and Valda wants to find out more.
~~~~~~~~~

The Strange Fate of the Blackwing

The shattered realms of the Twilight Realm contain many weird creations and strange sights. Reports have come through of something unusual even for that odd realm - an experimental British warship that vanished several years ago.

How did it get there? What quirk of reality brought it to that place? Maybe those aren't the important questions, though.

Maybe people should wonder what happened to the Nuclear Material onboard...

~~~~~~~~~~~
A Once and Current King
Fever is the site of odd goings on and complex arcane weavings. Lay lines flow along its streets and ancient mounds hide in the hills.
To keep this under control and unnoticed beyond a certain casual oddness and occasional drunken party vampire are yet more weavings, tied to the land itself. These are bound to a single person in the town who takes the ancient title of King.
Now those wardings are coming undone. The oddness is showing, and if it continues the eyes of others might turn upon the town. Something needs to be done...
Human Investigator 5 | HP: 16/41 | AC: 19, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +3, Ref: +6, Will: +10 {+1/+2/+7} | Melee: +4, Ranged: +5 | CMB: +4, CMD: 17 | Init: +2, Perception: +10 <trap spotter> | Insp 6/6 | SP 5/9 | Speed: 30ft
Paizo being down yesterday really put a crimp in things for me, but I should be done enough to get going soon.
I ended up with a weird mashup of The Shadow and Tomb Raider. I like him so far.
As for which path to pursue, I think this King arc sounds solid. I'm hesitant to dive straight into the Twilight + nuclear warship. That feels like jumping in with both feet. But I know Aurora wanted to do the carnival. That does sound fun, but I don't know if I'm ready for it.
What do you guys think?
HP: 12/44 (+8 when raging) -- Bloodrage: 6/14
I got excited about the Swashbuckler/Picaroon before I researched it very much, and I'm discovering that it's *very* feat intensive to be able to effectively wield a sword and gun in melee combat, which I think is what the archetype is trying to convey. Plus, it can be somewhat of a complicated combatant, which is't usually what I like to play, especially for a PbP. All the guides I'm reading are geared towards optimization, when I'm just going for effective, but I'm wondering if I can even reach that. So, I'm going to strip some of my expectations down, take another crack at the build, and if that doesn't work, I'll just go straight Swashbuckler, which will still fit with the character I have in mind. I already have most of the straight Swashbuckler build in my head.
However, today is my kid's birthday party (by coincidence, it's at a fencing academy), so I may not be ready until tomorrow.
*********
The King of Fever adventure gets my vote, also. I'd like to delve deeper into the setting. Blackwing also sounds fun.
The Carnival adventure sounds like it might be based off of Carnival of Tears. If not, disregard my misgivings, but if it is, I'd like to anti-vote for it. It's a very polarizing module; I bought it thinking that it would be a good fit for an PbP campaign I was running, but it seems to be not much more than an adventure full of gory, senseless innocent deaths that the PCs can't avoid. Not my bag. Again, if the carnival adventure isn't based after this module, then disregard what I just said. My vote is still the same, though.
Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist
I think we had this conversation the first time the Carnival came up. I have read the Carnival of Tears, and it won't be that. At all. It is a horror based game, it's true. But not the kinda body horror and gore. More tragic tales, haunting backstories, a lingering sense of dread and such. I don't especially like gore and random deaths, finding it neither scary nor fun.
And yeah, I'm not expecting to start quite yet. No worries on real life (Happy birthday to your child, Jennifer) and Paizo being down slowing down character stuff.
Female Human S. Prin. 6 | HP: 33/61 (R:5) | AC: 21, T: 15, FF: 18 | DR: 5/Good, SR: 27, Resist: Energy, Conditions, Effects | Fort: +13, Ref: +11, Will: +13 (+4 vs Cond/Eff) | M. Atk: +10(+12) | CMB: +9, CMD: 25 | Init: +3, Perception: +7
Yeah, I couldn't get much at all done yesterday. XD;
A Once and Current King gets my vote, followed by Blackwing. Much as I love Lovecraft stuff, I'm not actually that good at playing dread - and frankly, this character is more likely to punch a horror in the face than start to feel fear. XD
If we're going onto a nuclear vessel, though, I should make an Atomic Adept...
Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist
This one is less Cosmic Horror and more...other horror. Punching it in the face is not recommended.
But that's three votes for His Kingship, so that's where you folks are going.
Female Human (Valkyrie) Warpriest 5 | HP 25/38 | AC: 25, T: 15, FF: 21 | Fort: +8, Ref: +2, Will: +8 | BAB: +3, CMB: +9, CMD: 23, M.Attack +11(1d8+10)| Init: +0 | Perception: +1 | SP: 7/12 | Fervor 3/7
I've updated Aurora mechanically, she's back to her original configuration with just a couple of tweaks (I gave up on the Weather Sphere, the interesting effects require a really high CL, so I'm just keeping it for flavor)
Main mechanical changes:
Saves changed to +8/+2/+8
+8 HP
+1 Spell Point
+1 Spell Resistance
AC increased by 1 (deflection)
Also, I got something different for my Martial Tradition, as I'm racially proficient with armor and wield a simple weapon, I picked Crushing Thrower from Equipment, the Lancer Sphere, the Berserker Sphere and a talent from the Lancer Sphere. Hope that's alright, if not I'll change.
Also I'd have voted for A Once and Current King just for the name :)
Hey guys, Doctor Solomon here.
I'm still writing some of the fluff, but I wanted to introduce my new rogue!
He can't read minds, or levitate stuff, or fly, and he's not an expert in absolutely everything, but... he has guns! So that's pretty good, right?
HP: 12/44 (+8 when raging) -- Bloodrage: 6/14
Guns are remarkably versatile, actually!
Why would I shoot myself when I have perfectly good teammates?
@Cerise isn't Mythic a +2 template?
@Aurora your sheet is confusing but awesome.
@Jennifer how is your build coming?
@Nurai are you bored yet?
Female Human S. Prin. 6 | HP: 33/61 (R:5) | AC: 21, T: 15, FF: 18 | DR: 5/Good, SR: 27, Resist: Energy, Conditions, Effects | Fort: +13, Ref: +11, Will: +13 (+4 vs Cond/Eff) | M. Atk: +10(+12) | CMB: +9, CMD: 25 | Init: +3, Perception: +7
Normally, yes, but the version I'm actually using is significantly reduced from the original. That actually was a little much for a player character to have, so the GM and I talked it over, and we wound up reducing many of the effects by 50% or more (including ability score bonuses, the immunities, etc.). By that point, the original CR adjustment no longer seemed appropriate.
Human Rogue 6 | HP: -4/51 | AC: 23, T: 16, FF: 18 | Fort: +5, Ref: +11, Will: +4 | Melee: +6/+9, Ranged: +9 | CMB: +6, CMD: 21 | Init: +7, Perception: +10/+2 vs surprise/+3 vs traps <trap spotter> | MF [x] | SP 4/9 | Speed: 30ft
Oh okay. I did read over the template (not as much your sheet) and was like "Oh I guess the sparkle princess is invincible".
Glad you guys got it worked out.
But I may still use you as a human shield.
It's linked in his title. I should make it more clear probably.
Whenever I take talents that adjust another talent I usually just rewrite the adjusted talent and then say "included" in the altering talent. Like for your War sphere I'm not totally sure if you can make totems on anyone or just yourself, or what their range is. But I am pretty sure you can ruin stuff.
"Girl, I checked your template and class features, and a Vigilante you ain't. Heck, you aren't even Gonzo's Magical Girl, and they don't get that class feature either. I demand to know the truth about this claim of a secret identity."
"Ooooh, I see. Well, I've got a 22 in Charisma, so I think it's fair to say I'm cute. I mean, game-wise, 18 is pretty much peak human performance because it's the highest normal roll and everything beyond that is more-or-less supernatural, right?"
"Yyyyyyyyes."
"Well, I don't actually go spreading my identity as a Sparkle Princess around - I'm far better-known as an extraordinary dancer. I mean, mostly I just lure targets into quiet areas where I can beat them down without anyone else noticing."
"So, what, you're saying that trying to remain hidden also means you have a secret identity? That's not how it works."
"So what do you think I should do, sit at home and hide because the spooky crawlies of the night might do something? Evil is kind of famous for never sleeping. They won't go away just because we don't want them around. It's better to at least draw some of them out and thwart their plans. And I may be cute, but that doesn't mean I'm fragile and need protecting. Evil triumphs when good people do nothing, and I'm not the sort of person who's just going to stand around."
A couple of NPCs related to Aurora here.
Iris Goodberry:
This tall, 50-years old woman looks like an older version of Aurora, with some silver streaking her golden hair. Born in Iceland as Iris Guðirbarn, she emigrated to the United States as she was twenty. Wielding a sword and a shield as her Valkyrie self, Skalmold, she was hired as a private contractor, bodyguard and mercenary by several wealthy individual, until the accident that cost her most of her right leg by cursed dragonfire.
After the wound cost her her job, she moved to Fever, the quietest place a supernatural being like her can find, and opened a pub. One day, a stranger came to the pub. He was grizzled and handsome, and his tongue was as honeyed as Iris' mead. He left after a night, and nine months later, Aurora was born.
Despite her wound, Iris has kept in shape and could easily overpower most human beings, but she likes her job as a barkeep. Also, unlike her daughter, she is an excellent cook.
Sven Emdahl:
To most citizens of Fever, Sven is a short, stocky Swedish blacksmith. In reality, he is much more than that: he is a dwarf, although he prefers the term svartalf, "black elf". As with most dwarves, he is short of temper and quick to violence, but he values honor above all. As with his kind, he is a master smith, able to smelt adamantine, and he's the one who forged Aurora's Geidihr. The young woman has only recently met him, as she was trying to understand the strange armor found in Valda's home as well as sell the precious ingots.
Iris met Sven as he was a poor, jobless foreigner. A trade as a blacksmith is not much profitable nowadays, and he had turned to petty crime, until the day he mugged the wrong woman. As Iris held him two feet off the ground, she recognized his race, and struck a deal: in exchange for his services, she would have fronted money for a shop and vouched for him in the supernatural community, those who still find much use in silver, swords and cold iron. Nowadays, Sven is one of the main caterers to the uncanny denizens of Fever.
What are some setting-specific languages? Or are all the racial/planar languages in play?
It's pretty much real-world ones, with English replacing common, and the usual Golarion ones (although they'll obviously be much less common).
I've also made a bare bones section for Fever itself, although I intend to add to it when I'm less overworked. Again, anything you guys wanna add...
