With their work done, the party leaves the Precipice Quarter. As they step into the greater city, Junia suddenly pauses and mutters under her breath, “brother is here...”

A man in a uniform similar to Junia’s, but with more medals and polish, emerges from a side alley at a brisk pace. “Finally, I found you. I heard around the lodge that a team of Pathfinders was headed in to the Tri-Towers Yard.” Colson bows his head.

“My brother was one of many children who died when the earthquake hit. As a result, I take great interest in expeditions leading in to that cursed site. The last Pathfinder expedition seven years ago found his body, and as a result, my family was able to give him a proper burial. Those agents also found some...” Colson pauses, and then continues delicately, “reports about my brother’s after-school activities that would have been quite embarrassing if made public. Did you, by chance, find any information about my brother?”

Aspen nods. "We did find them, in fact. I did not feel it was my place to read them, though I can not say the same for my companions." He gives them a sideways glance. "I hope nothing too embarrassing was in them..."

Aspen didn't even read them and I think the other PCs have them so someone else needs to chime in!

Unless J wanted to keep them, I'm going to assume Seren kept ahold of them.

She blanches and gives Aspen a bit of a look when he spills the beans. Then with a sigh she digs through her bags and pulls out the collection of notes they found and holds them out dejectedly.

"I read everything they said, and I plan to report what I found to Mr. Dreng as it pertains to the security of the society... just so you know.

Laureglyn are you around?

sorry, yes, I'm around, but traveling... hard to make a post on phone...

"Actually he asked specifically if we had found information ABOUT his brother... not the papers he'd written up. Perhaps we should hang onto those for now."

“Grishan had a brilliant mind, and he was eager to do whatever he could to serve the cause of freedom. I suggested that if he helped the cause of the Eagle Knights before he was old enough to be eligible, they would certainly accept him.”

“I know this looks bad”, Colson says. “And I’m not going to try to justify my actions. These notes paint everyone they touch in a negative light. But, Pathfinders, in situations such as this one, it is important to consider the bigger picture, the greater good, and the unfortunate realities of politics. Skilled orators can take even the hint of scandal and spin it into a mountain to bury their target, preventing almost anyone from seeing the accomplishments and value of the people beneath. Remember what we discovered two years ago, my friends, and the seeds of corruption threatening Andoran that sparked the decision to separate Liberty’s Edge as its own entity. Were this information to become public, members of that conspiracy among Andoran’s politicians would use their oratory against all our works, which would deal a crippling blow to our cause’s influence. They would tarnish not only my own reputation, but the reputation of the Liberty’s Edge as a whole, and by extension, the reputations and of all of the Pathfinders who tirelessly work under our banner to promote the cause of freedom. It may even spell the end of our movement to promote the cause of freedom throughout the Inner Sea and beyond!”

"Well, I'm not the crusader for liberty that you are, Major Colson, but I do think you're working for a good cause and I'd hate to see your hard work be undone. And you're a fellow Pathfinder. If you don't want this information to get out, then I think we should entrust it to you and we will promise never to speak a word of it to anyone."

It looks like we've got one in favor of handing over the documents and two against. Unless Aspen really wants to press the issue I'm going to assume the party settles on the latter.

Laureglyn scowls at Aspen's words. "I think handing them over to the Society might be better, but I can see how the information could be both used or misused.... or even abused for that matter. I will acquiesce to Aspen here in this case, but only IF J agrees, for she has some idea of what would be preferred in this case." He looks to J for her opinion.

J stares into the distance for a moment, lost in thought. Strangely, tears begin to roll down her face.

"I think you should make this decision", she says quietly.

Aspen shrugs and sighs. "Give them to Major Colson or give them to the Society. I would hope that we can trust our higher-ups to deal with this internally. I just would not want these things to become known publicly and ruin what the Major has worked for for all these years."

Showing Dreng is fine with me. Aspen just didn't want the information sold to someone outside the Society.

agreed, it shouldn't go outside the society... personally I think the collector of the information should have made the decision, but apparently he's not going to state his preference.

"I think the Society should have this information, and will treat it with the utmost discretion. No chance for this to become public knowledge, I give you my word."

now watch, we'll get waylaid on the way back and it will be stolen, haha

"I'm completely okay with giving them to the Major, I am just going to let Dreng know about the pieces involving the Society, since they sound important." She still holds them out to Laureglyn to make the final decision, since Aspen seems fairly open minded and he seems more certain.

"I'm okay with that as well, Seren... " He makes a swift copy of just the salient parts that relate to the Society, then hands the originals to the Major. "I hope that is acceptable to you. The Society may act on information that is relevant, but they are quite secretive and I'm sure they will not reveal it to outsiders."

In case it wasn't clear, Colson is trying to cover this information up. He wants the papers because he doesn't want the information to make it to the Society. Currently, you are choosing to not let him cover this up.

that is correct.

Colson Maldris takes the papers offered to him but shakes his head sorrowfully and departs.

J smiles sadly and looks up at Laureglyn. “Thank you. From me and Grishan too.”

The rest of the trip back to J's home is uneventful and her mother is grateful to have her daughter home.

***

Both J and Grishan have learned much about themselves and their power. J feels that she is ready to finally leave the Drownyard behind her, but has come to realize that she cannot follow in her mother’s footsteps. She instead wishes to strike out on her own and get to know her newfound powers better. She also asks if you all might be willing to sponsor her to begin training with the Pathfinder Society.

Grishan, for his part, has a better understanding of his past and his relationship with his brother. He realizes that his bond with her is far stronger than the connection he still feels with his brother, and he is determined to follow J wherever her journeys might take her.

Several weeks later, Venture-Captain Dreng reports that the haunts at the Drownyard have all disappeared, and he thanks you for your efforts.

That's it. Thanks for playing guys.

Laureglyn states (for the record), "J, you are so welcome in the Society. I know you will find a sort of kinship here, in addition to your own birth family. May it serve you well, and vice versa. I hope to see you again sometime, and Grishan too."

Got the chronicle already! Thanks for another great run, GM!
