The missive didn't include many details except to mention that you were needed in the City of Nerosyan and that expediency was of the essence. Any thoughts of balking at the order were swiftly squashed when the sender was recognized - the Decemvirate themselves. So, from far and wide, each of you traveled across the world to Nerosyan, the capital of the crusader state of Mendev.

Located at a valuable strategic location, guarding the junction where the Egelsee River flowing from the east meets the northern-most branch of the Sellen River, it's visible at a glance that Nerosyan is designed first and foremost as a defensive fortification. The city is laid out in a diamond pattern between the two rivers, in order to maximize their defensive potential and the outer walls are topped with crenelations, and dozens of towers rise from the walls, ensuring that the defenders can pour fire into any attacking force. The top of the walls are covered in sloped roofs cut with arrow slits, designed to allow defenders to ward off the flying attacker. At the center of the city stands a massive cathedral, built to allow defenders to easily sally out to any part of the city.

Per the instructions in the missive, you make your way to a large mess hall within the Starrise Spire, one of two Pathfinder lodges in Nerosyan. A small army of Confirmed agents are already gathered here, all busily speculating the reason for the summons among themselves.

A dusky-skinned man in richly decorated armor stands atop a small stage at the head of the mess hall. He clears his throat and speaks in a loud clear voice that lowers the rest of the volume in the room.

“Fellow Pathfinders, I am Jorsal of Lauterbury, Venture Captain of Nerosyan. I welcome you to the Starrise Spire and bid you to find a seat and speak with the other guests. Once everyone is comfortably seated, I will get to the point of this great gathering.”

After he's said his piece, the Venture Captain descends from the stage. You find yourselves among peers, some of which you may recognize...

A tall figure, plainly garbed but with an unmistakeable green tint to his skin, stands near the edge of the assembly. Thick, corded muscles ripple under his cloak as he moves to scan the crowd, his black-browed face showing little expression. His right cheek bears a scar in the shape of a longsword, blade down, with the rays of a sunburst radiating out from it. As he finishes his scan of the crowd, the orc selects a seat near the edge and nods a greeting to the man beside him.

A hulking brute walks into the hall just as the Venture Captain begins to speak. He stops to listen and nods his head as he is given his instructions. Dressed in all black, his black cloak covering his head. As he turns to find a seat, he slips off his hood to reveal a bald half-orc, with dark green skin and smallish tusks protruding from his mouth. He appears quite young. A greatsword hangs off his right shoulder while a trio of spears hang off his left. He finds a seat near the back of the hall, mindful of his size and how it blocks those behind him. As he pushes the edge of his cloak back you see a black wooden symbol hanging from his neck. As he sits, he mutters something to himself as his right hand goes to the handle of his sword and his left touches the symbol at his neck.

His mail shirt jingles beneath a high-collared coat as Barham turns to greet the half-orc sitting down beside him.

"Quite a crowd, quite a bigger crowd than we are accustomed to in these Society gathers," he prattles.

"Barham Topperbush, and my companion Scrumpy." The summoner tilts his head to the other side of his seat, where his hand rests atop a bulky grey mass. Cascading wrinkles of skin over four legs and a stout, jowly face suggest a canid form, though the twin runes that glimmers on the forehead of both halfling and beast point to the eidolon's stranger origin.

A young varisian warrior walks at the edge of the crownd with the easy gait of an athlete. Besides the plate armor he is clad in bright colorfull clothes with both hands full of golden rings and a matching pair of earrings. Two short swords are strapped to his back. He stops to listen to the venture captain and with a sad smile finds himself someplace to sit. A lot of green skins today.

You guys are a chatty bunch, huh? I think Feral's group has two pages of RP by now. We're slackers!

Milling about the room, several faces seem familiar, whether you have attended missions with the individuals or you were confirmed at the same time, you realize that this is easily the largest concentration of Pathfinders anywhere in Golarion.

Looking around, your minds wander, trying to dredge up any tidbit of information you may have on your current circumstances.

Knowledge (history, religion, nobility, local, geography, engineering, and planes) are all relevant checks that can made now.

Pretty sure your eidolon doesn't have telepathy or even empathic link.

Mrachni raises an eyebrow. "Where do you hail from, little one?" he asks in his deep rumble. "Have you any ideas why we've all been summoned?"

Mrachni:
You know that the Worldwound is infested with demons. Evil and destructive creatures, demons are native to the Abyss, though they can be summoned by means of magic. Many of the demons within the Worldwound emerged from the rift at the center of the region.

Barham:

You also recall that the demonic hosts are kept somewhat in line by powerful overlords known as demon lords. The exact number of demon lords is unknown, but many such creatures are revered on Golarion. Each demon lord has a portfolio, similar to that of a deity; however, most demon lords lack many of the powers a true god possesses.

I am not sure why we were all summoned here. There were rumors of a lost city rediscovered in the Worldwound, but they were just rumors. Whatever it is it will be big. Nicolae looks at all the people gathered in the hall. Very big.

Nicolae:
You remember that the Pathfinder Society maintains a strong working relationship with the crusaders of Mendev. An extensive treaty exists between the nation and the Society, giving the Society the right to operate in the region, but requiring Pathfinders to defend Mendevian cities and participate in crusades.

Sheloa nods. "Pleasure to meet ya all. I agree, it's bound to something big....certainly isn't to tell how good of a job we're doing. Probably some fool mission to send us all to our deaths!" Sheloa turns quiet for moment.

"It happens you know...death. I lost most of my former companions on a mission to maintain a distant wardstone....didn't even see the demons before they were on top of us...didn't stand a chance.... She trails off and stares around at the crowd and the spire with a somber expression.

Eventually she shakes her head as if to rid herself of such sad memories and motions with her hand. "Ever been here before? I have been here for a while. See Nerosyan is divided into several districts, though the local crusaders often group smaller districts together. The four amalgamated districts include the Egelsee District to the southeast, Confluence District to the southwest, Woundward District to the northwest, and Battle District to the northeast." She nods to her self and gives Foamy another scratch under his whiskered chin.

"The Cruciform Cathedral at the heart of Nerosyan is the center of Iomedaean worship in the city. Acting as a tactical command center, the cathedral allows crusaders to quickly move about the city via the interior walls that section off the city." Sheloa shrugs. "I hope they start soon, I'm gettin' hungry, what about you Foamy?"

Would there be any benefit to rolling untrained, i.e. any results with DC <= 10?

At Nicolae's mention of the worldwould, Barham and Scrumpy halt their partially-audible argument, the halfling's countenance tightening to match his suddenly grim tone.

"Indeed, very big indeed," he sympathizes. "For all my supposed imagination, I cannot think of any other reason why so many of us would be summoned to Mendev but for some new and terrible threat in the Worldwound."

Nothing untrained, i.e. lower than DC 10.

Belroar leans forward from his seat behind the others and says gruffly, "War. The only reason to bring me here, I suppose. At least the only reason the Iron Lord would send me, even if I am new to the Pathfinders."

After a moment or two, he gets a look like he remembered something and says, "My name is Belroar Bloodlet. Chosen of Gorum. uh..nice to meet you all."

You can see him thinking and his lips move silently as he ticks his fingers on one hand to the thumb, like counting things off. After a few seconds, he smiles.

Turning to the halfling. That is prescisely the point. The society operates in this region by way of a treaty between itself and Mendev. The same document requires all pathfinders agents in the field to defend Mendevian cities and participate in crusades. A deal is a deal but as long as we are here we have practically been drafted. Lets hope the neighborhood stays quiet.

Belroar:

"The Worldwound is filled with demons. No one knows the exact amount of the demons or their Demon Lords, but perhaps the demons are out of control? Hrm, a war against demons. I thought the Pathfinders would be boring, examining ruins and other such things. But a demon war, now that's something Gorum could support."

Belroar's eyes twinkle at the thought, his face breaking into what you assume is a grin.

Venture Captain Jorsal climbs atop the stage once again and clears his throat. "I apologize for the delay friends. It will be just a moment longer. Please, get to know one another. It's not often that there's this many of us under one room at the same time."

Afer the Venture Captain finishes, the volume in the mess hall picks up again as the last few stragglers file into the space.

Heh, so I did..long day.

As your party continues to rub elbows with Pathfinders from near and far, you see Jorsal take the center stage and clear his throat loudly. For such a simple gesture, the room quiets almost immediately. “Welcome once again, one and all, to the city of Nerosyan. I am Jorsal, Venture-Captain of Starrise Spire. I know you all have questions about why you’ve been sent here, and I intend to spend the evening answering those questions.” He takes a breath and takes in the breadth of the gathering.

“I shall start by telling you why the Society has sent so many skilled agents to Mendev. Intrepid agents recently uncovered information that points to a startling find in the old nation of Sarkoris, now known as the Worldwound. These agents have discovered that a dwarven Sky Citadel, one of the rarest sites on the planet, rests within the Worldwound. It is known to us as Jormurdun.” He pauses, seemingly for effect, as he lets his words settle on the gathered Pathfinders. “It is the will of the Decemvirate that we should come together and find the exact site of thi—” Suddenly the walls of the Spire tremble as you hear the sound of a distant explosion. Dust begins to rain down on you as the shockwave of an explosion rolls over the building. This is almost immediately followed by the sounds of eerie, coarse sounding horns.

A man rushes up and and whispers something in Jorsal’s ear, and at the same time you hear another set of horns, seeming to come from the center of Nerosyan.

“My friends, it appears the city is under attack by a force of demons from the Worldwound! How such a thing is possible, I do not yet know, but I do know that this attack must be stopped and our treaty with the crusaders of Mendev binds us to join the battle. Give me some time to rally our agents as best I can, and in the meantime I trust you to pick where your skills can
best be put to use. Go forth into Nerosyan or hasten to the skirmishes outside its walls, and aid where you can. I shall summon you again when I know how to best combat this enemy.”

He quickly descends from the stage and makes for the mess hall’s exit. He turns back one last time adding, ”Keep an eye out for Venture-Captain Thurl. If he is not already helping, ensure that he’s not pinned down.”

Like clockwork, some of the agents more familiar with Nerosyan begin unfurling maps of the city. All at once the room is abuzz with activity as groups of Pathfinders form and begin to shoulder their gear as the sounds of battle begin to drift to your ears. A grizzled, veteran agent walks by while adjusting his weapons. He pauses and tosses your group a map of the city. ”Good luck” He says, then walks out the door.

A district with a higher threat level will be more dangerous but is also in greater need of aid. Tokens on the map represent where each team is currently focusing their efforts.

The sieges takes place over multiple phases and each phase will last roughly two days. A team can only change districts between each phase. Choose a district and get into the fight. Nerosyan needs you!

Belroar lets out a roar that gives you an inkling of why he is named such. "Ha, the Iron Lord blesses me, we will have war!" He looks at his new companions. "I have not been a Pathfinder as long as you all, perhaps you decide where we might go? I do not think any decision to be bad, it sounds like we will have action wherever we go. And may the Iron Lord bless us!"

He looks to Mrachni for his direction.
